CoH2 and the Level Cap

I said it once and I'll say it again. What this game needs is a zone where heroes and villains can REALLY cut loose and cause real damage to EVERYTHING!

The only things I would care for in a CoX2, would be two things:

One: A completely rebuilt engine for the game to allow for many (but good lord, not all) of the things people wish to see made viable in the original. I'm thinking mostly of power customization.

Two: Progression of current CoX content and loads of new story arcs. (a brain-dead given)

But as much as I'd like to see that, there would be issues to address that have no happy solution I'm aware of.

If you rebuild the game engine, this won't be compatible with those who won't buy the game. You'd still have two independantly running games competing for player base. You'd have to either force everyone to buy the expansion to be able to continue playing the game, or you'd have to provide the man-power of creating a whole new engine for free at a huge cost to the company. Either won't work in a world made of money.

Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.

this is not a needed thing. in fact im going to give the best idea ever. how about we NEVER ask for an increase in lv again. the game is balanced around casual play and not someone sitting home 24/7 playing all day long or pl'n their toons to 50 all the time.

what we need is more content to do at the higher lv's. no lv increase. no 2nd game or sequal. just good ol' content.

I'd like CoH2 to be a continuation of CoH after the Strom or whatever is failed to be stopped. Instead of an end to time it's a crash of worlds leading to the birth of a new world. Turns out The Coming Storm is really a "Crisis" situation ala DC.

CoH would run independently of CoH2 (or maybe at a discount subscription for both) and when CoH1 becomes unprofitable they have The Storm as a week or month long event and close the servers.

The reason these threads come up is because even though we receive generous expansions every few months, lots of us still feel "enclosed". Zones like the Shard are too few and far between where we can say we are actually out of the city. I ran a mission on villain side where I was supposed to be in some kind of "demon dimension" and it still had War Walls! It's a matter pf perception and we feel powerful if the perception is that we are powerful. Me personally, I am not against a "World of Heroes" or a "Universe of Heroes" as long as it feels like a world or a universe.

Why was this necro'd?

No idea, I'm just along for the ride.

There just needs to be a level cap increase. Do it like WoW, 10 at a time. Go to lvl 60.

No personal offense to the OP, but this is probably the worst idea that has ever been posted here.

Level cap raises are a bad idea to start with and this takes that and adds a ton of restrictions.

And if they ever do write a CoH2 to get rid of the limitations, the whole point of doing so would be to start from scratch. If a build can be imported there would be no need to start over and it could just be an upgrade.

A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

If they ever make a CoH2, the only setting I want to see is a Silver Age or Golden Age setting, and not "ten MORE minutes into the future."

Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.

Which Crisis do you want to see? Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis or Final? I can see CoH doing something like that where the Storm ended up messing with the multiverse ending with the death of what current continuity, then Infinite: Rebuilding, then Final being the end result.

Count me in.

This idea reminds me of Champions of Norrath and Champions of Norrath 2: Returns to Arms (great games btw)

For those who don't know:
CoN's lvl cap is 50. Its sequel increased its lvl cap by 30. Yep lvl 80. You could play your old lvl 50 and load him/her into CoN:RtA and lvl 50 was the new lvl 1 ON the "Champion" difficulty setting. It's a pretty cool, fun game. Many of hours spent playing this game.

Except Return to Arms totally nerfed regen and my level 50 barbarian who could go from nearly 0 to full health in the time it took him to stand after being knocked down got killed left and right at 80 in RtA.

i was one of the many "hooked on CoN:RtA" junkies. was a bad thing when i kept loggin in and out to change the items at the store tryin to get the best stuff. i used to sit there for hr's on end doing that.

but back to the question at hand: no. no lv increase. just more high lv content to do.

I agree with you 100% on more high lvl content and "NO" to lvl cap raising (Especially when the argument is: This game is doing it, so should CoH). And it's all propaganda about how CoH is doomed when the competition is released with a lvl cap that exceeds 50 and/or increasing CoHs' lvl cap will bring MORE players.

I say that the devs start working on CoH2, and the ENTIRE game will be the "end game".You can ONLY start a new character in CoH2 by permanently transporting a level 50 character over to it.

"Let's up the level cap, draw dev attention away from CoH, and alienate most of the playerbase!" HELL to the NO.
