They both look quite a lot like the kinds of riot shields various police units use. It might not be identical to the one you use, but it's close enough for government work. (See what I did there?) Are the Paragon trains identical to the subway you ride?

I do see your point, but it kind of kills the immersion when the shield you are using has 'fatal' design flaws to it.
And by 'fatal' I mean that the current riot shield, if used in RL would probably do the officer more harm than good if in a Riot situation.

There are lots of things in the game that don't quite match up to real life. Is there a single Tanker Super Strength attack that in any way matches the real punch it's named after? You just have to ignore that stuff and write it down as how the rules in an alternate world work.

The BIG flaw in the sheild is the bar that goes along the top of the shield.
Say I had that shield and a crowd of protesters suddenly becomes violent. People could grab the nice grips that are on the shield and pull you out of your squad and before your squad can react they are cut off by the crowd. So now you have an officer thats probably dead.
True Riot shields are one piece, and the only handle there is the one you use to hold the shield. No re-enforcing bars or plates.
