Discussion - Dev Diary: Designing Day Jobs Feature
It's per character logged out.
Also, supposedly, it was said at Hero Con that the timers are already counting to give credit for Day Job badges. I'm assuming that this started with the patch that added the Cyborg Superbooster costume pack (but I have no proof of this).

Not that I don't believe you, but do you have a source for that? I've tried several nicely worded PM's asking for confirmation, and so far haven't gotten a response back. (I chalked it up to hero con though.)
As far as I've seen, there hasn't been anything officially posted confirming which way it works.

Umm... I just googled this. That is some wicked bad Ancient Greek. Try:
"O eme Thee, esti en eme kephele pelekys"
(or labrys instead of pelekys, the latter doesn't strike me as common though ... i would have put a "by zeus" at the front instead, but that would take some time to look up.)

Well then, guess I'll be logging into all my alts and making sure they are in places that count for the badges.

Ok so it is a confirmed thing that you can still play on another character and still gain the rewards on another character?

I'm afraid I fall into this category as well. I've yet to get a official response to this or where anyone else has gotten an official response. I hope your right and it is per character, but every other game I've ever played that had rewards you earned while being logged out was on an account basis and not character basis. Maybe this one will be different, but I will wait for something official.
I would find it intensely odd if it were per account. Nearly all the discussion on the day jobs so far have been assuming that it's per character, and I'd consider it a major failing on the staff's part if they didn't clear up the distinction at any point.
Consider, though, that the character selection screen already tracks how many days it's been since you last logged in a character. If they were only concerned with the account and not the individual characters, they probably wouldn't bother with that.

The log in timer was put in when someone asked for it because they had difficulty with the market timer eating their stuff. It had nothing to do with day jobs, nor looks at anything day job related.
The core if the confusion comes about because A) other games do a per-account offline reward, and B) all official discussions interchange character and player when describing it, and both have very different meanings in that context.
All that I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if it was per account.
I also wouldn't be surprised if the red names stopped reading this thread about 20 pages back, and therefore won't be providing confirmation without prodding.

Never said it did, only that they're already tracking logout times per character and not per account.

My feelings tell me I have a million dollars in the bank. I don't think it'd be good to act on those Also, some of us have a DOOOOOOOOM streak a mile long.

I copied because you failed to answer the core critical question.
For instance, if I told you that logging out in the easter egg room enabled the Big Red Ball Temp, would you not want some sort of evidence of that other than that we would *want* it to be true?

In that case, search MY feelings. Or anybody's feelings besides your own. They know it to be true.

No, I would say:

... there a badge for that?"

I PM'd a Dev and asked as I'm sure a million others have. It actually hasn't been read yet so maybe when they get around to reading it I will get an answer. Maybe I should find someway to tie it into a PvP question and I might get an answer sooner!
I hope there are military oriented dayjobs...
Like for Vanguard or the UN in Shadow Shard.
I'm looking forward to the Day Job stuff. It adds a bit of flavor to the game. Some of the dev posts even hinted that down the road there may be a "secret identity" feature. That would be fantastic!

Yes. It would be fantastic. Especially if it involved actually playing the game.

Being a game where most of the game is progressing your character.
And a company that needs to compete with other companies.
It seems a little like schools giving better grades for going home at night, just so more students will attend there.
Not sure if this was mentioned but for another day job...
Maybe a combination of Scientist(camp at the University) and Sanitation Worker(Camp in the sewers) that would give you an increase to toxic resist...
Well I have been looking at the rewards and think that should people stay true to a day job out of concepts sake as we are not all min/maxxers or badgers, some are RPers, that there is a little bit of penalisation going on for picking a job.
[u]Random tech salvage drop upon mission complete [u]
This is a poor mans choice compared to the magic salvage, I vote on it doing both random tech and magic as Professors can be Professors in anything.
[u]Coupons that will grant a discount at the tailor[u]
There are so many free costumes on most peoples accounts I do wonder if this is that good. Can it also work towards a special costume item? I can't get a witches hat on villains and I am sure there are plenty of other things like the PPD costume aye?
[u]XP Debt Protection[u]
Can we get away with combining 2 insps for awaken as well?
I like the sound of Day Jobs. Some people have made it sound awful, like they have to log off in order to be successful. I look at it as an added feature. Sure, I have to be logged off in order to get it, but guess what? I am not logged on 24 hours a day anyways. I will eventually earn all of the powers (badges, etc.) that I want. It will just take a while.
I'm just not sure how this is such a bad thing. It seems like a nice reward for my character when I'm not actively playing.
It should be looked at as a little extra flavor, not an entire meal.
