One update to the warning potential Rikti Hunters should take note of:

* When Zones within the cities are under attack, a world-wide alert will be issued by Vanguard. This alert will show up in your Chat window on the Event channel, warning you in which zone attack is imminent. If you haven't already, be sure to add the Event channel to one of your chat tabs.

Good hunting!

[/ QUOTE ]

OK - at the risk of sounding really "not very bright" - how do you "add the Event channel"?

right click in the chat tab, select Edit Tab...click on Event Channel and then select the (I think -Move- button) in the center of the two columns. The left column is what is currently displayed in the selected channel while the right column shows the remaining selections. You can move chat channels back and forth to customize what you see.

I just can't get excited about this.

I feel like these invasions happen too often. I feel like they go on way, way too long. But more importantly, this long after issue 10, I feel like they happen way, way too pointlessly.

[/ QUOTE ]

Seconded. Getting tired of the whole Rikti thang.

Posting for balance: I love them!

I wanted to chime in here...

I love these events, but it would be SOOOO much better if it was an actual ... surprise!! no announcement on the boards posting future dates, or a reminder it's this weekend. I mean really, even if we had rikti spies get us the info, you'd think they'd be smart enough to change their plans...

Hi Backhand,

Well, as for the Rikti invasions, we kinda spoiled that when we put out the 4 Year Anniversary Calendar. We know that some like to be surprised by fun stuff, but others also like to be able to plan for certain events. Hopefully we can work in some surprises for you over the coming year as well

[/ QUOTE ]

HEY! Quoted by a Red name! Sweet! I know it's a "can't please them all, all the time " thing, so my feeling aren't hurt at all. I understand people want to know to schedule accordingly. I enjoy it either way, just thought about how it could be better (for me anyways ), but there are a lot more people playing than just me, so ah well. As for the surprises, heck, the great Issues being put out is enough for me, but keep em coming

Thanks again LH

I'm afraid I have to add my voice to the "tired of them" group in terms of scheduled ones. They come too often and go on for too long. I much prefer the spaced out and random post-TF versions.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE event stuff like this. I'd just like to see more variety (heck, why not bring back a rare shadow shard breach or two... or have a riot... or gang war, you get the idea) or a little less frequency so that I don't ignore them or move away from the zone because the annoyance factor is larger than the fun factor.

I will say the big Rikti event thing I like is the level scaling. That can be used for *so* many things (SG-wide missions?). Clockwork scavengers flooding a zone like locusts. Hydraspawn spilling out of one of the many sewer doors. "Police crackdowns" on the redside.

The tools are built. Let the creativity flow (offer me a mini-pack to buy to fund it. Rocketpack costume pieces would sell well hehe)

IMHO i think the ppl that are tired of the invasions only play one character and don't care for badges or acolades on their alts.
Playing just one AT would bore me too.

Addendum for those who've forgotten the Rularuu invasions or weren't here back then - here's what someone by the name of Mandu had to say about them in a thread that's in the Suggestions forum right now:

[ QUOTE ]
The Rularuu invasions sucked.

Oh sure, it was pretty cool seeing these weird creatures stalking all the zones but low levels didn't stand a chance against them.

In Atlas through Steel there where broadcasts of

"Hey, there is some kind of weird floating eye thingy"

"@&^@#*&^ I was just one shotted by something my own level"

[/ QUOTE ]
That was pretty much my experience also.

CoH's design is an iterative process, with lots of trial and error. In much the same way that the Devs had to learn to crawl with the Positron and Citadel TFs before they could run with the AWESOME that is Hess or Imperious, they had to fail with the quickly-aborted Rularuu invasion before they could apply the lessons learned there to the Rikti. (And some of my friends still think there's room for improvement, or just want it to end.)

Being new to the game (All of a month as of today) I enjoyed the two invasions I weathered tonight. The first was a lag-fest for certain especially my 'just able to run it' computer. The second... well it was about 430 am (Eastern) time and there were like four of us taking out the bombs... then the three of them went off.. Me I was just topping off my inspirations when I saw this thin line and a Rikti monkey pop up! Having only witnessed the lagged out one earlier I didn't get to see the portaling in. It was just me and my bots. In the end we were overwhelmed but THAT was fun. I had flash backs of Starship Troopers! So as a newbie I want to say I enjoyed it even though I died.

I try to think outside the box when it comes to the invasions. Sure I'm a lvl 50. Sure I've got the accolade.

So hearing the panicked "I'm a lvl 6 emp def, wth is going on?" is my cue for:

a) Mentoring badges. SKing a lvl 6 up to lvl 50 boosts those heals!
b) Vanguard merits (which are now the topic of much debate about whether their granted numbers are dropping or not, I know I've not noticed a problem).
c) Healing badges (for MY non-lvl-50 healers who already have the accolade).
d) Held/restrained/sleep badges. (Dratted Mentalists...)
e) Damage taken badges.

And besides, they're FUN! Personally, I'm jazzed when I lead a team of seven newcomers and when the war walls are back up and the all-clear sounds, over the team chat comes, "THAT WAS AWESOME! Is there another one?! Where now?"

And I've been playing this game a year and a half...

Surprises? Like when I was ambushed on the world map in "sharkhead" by longbow? After I took a new mission from the new contact "Alan"? That was a sticky yet funny surprise when 10-20 Longbow(Wardens Included) swarm you from all around yelling your name right as your takeing down "Scrapyard"...

I'm not giving the mission name as to not spoil the mission for others...

Amen. I spent a lot of my time on here yesterday running invasion teams and helping people get their badges/accolades. It was a blast.

I think the devs need to expand upon the invasions so we don't feel so helpless when they're going on. I think, when an invasion occurs, you should see Vanguard arrive on the scene as well. Have them set up AAA turrets that we can control, and let us take the fight to the drop ships themselves. It seems a bit out of place that there isn't even a response form the PPD when an invasion is going on.

Only if that's the extent of your imagination. So what if you're a hero? There's an incredibly dangerous and tterly hostile alien armada rampaging across your city, rather bent on killing everybody and everything. If you still can't justify killing them, that's your own fault and not the developers.

You're given the tools, what you do with them is your problem.

My Mastermind is doing it because the Weather God inside her doesn't want anyone else taking over the world but Him.

So there.

My corruptors did it because it was easy money. Vanguard and Recluse pay top dollar for Rikti pinkies. (They dont have ears and it takes up less room int he backpack than heads)

Actually, the developers use the term "defeat" so as to leave the fate of your enemies ambiguous. I could see my stone melee tanker subduing enemies simply because all he's using a blunt force. My dual blades tanker, though - he slices the baddies up, and if the emergency teleporter system manages to extract them in time to save them, great. If not... oh well.

My dm scrapper literally sucks the life out of his foes - I'm pretty sure his intent isn't to *just* stop the villains. My /rad blast defender is shooting them with F%#@ing radiation! All he cares abotu is stopping the villains. In fact, of all my characters, my mind/ice dom probably is the most concerned w/ limiting fatalities - after all, too many deaths in your wake and someone's bound to notice.

Not gonna debate you, Backhand. But for every player who wants a "surprise", there's another one somewhere who had to miss a certain event on a certain day, or weekend, or whatever, and will wonder why he couldn't be informed ahead of time to schedule.

In short, you can't please everyone.
