Hi all,

Been absent for a while. Found out I had a genetic heart condition which kept me in the ICU for almost a week, but I'm slowly recovering.

Anyway, a trio of pieces I received while I was in hospital.

Very lovely work

Why do people feel the need to post NSFW stuff?
You do realize it's against the rules, and labeling it as NSFW doesn't make it OK to do it.

Not justifiying him/her doing so but: They are proud of the work someone else has done for them, and they paid for.

That being said, I don't feel it is neccessary to have posted it, I definately could live without seeing it.

...ya know, I've asked this in other threads myself - only to be called a "geek" and told that its "okay" since the deviantart stuff won't show unless you're already logged into deviantart account that's says you're old enough to see "mature" material.

go figure.

Thanks for the feedback. I am curious as to what would be considered prohibitive in respect of Albtraum 2. So I decided to check the City of Heroes Message Board Rules and Guidelines posted by Aura (link here).

[ QUOTE ]

6. Hosting your own images.

You will find that we do not host screenshots, signature pictures, or other images on this message board. You are more than welcome to link to images hosted in other places (like on your own personal website), as long as they are of an appropriate and non-offensive nature. Avatar icons are allowed as long as the images are below 20kb in weight. Links to images that are inappropriate will be removed immediately and you will be contacted for breaking the forum rules. Images that are obscene, vulgar, references to bodily functions or body parts are also forbidden. Words that would be censored by our bad word filter are not allowed in images either. Finally, copyrighted images are also forbidden.

[/ QUOTE ]

In North America, City of Heroes is rated Teen by the Entertainment Software Rating Board. Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language.

City of Heroes rating by the ESRB states that is has " Suggestive Themes, Violence."

I really like the work that Dietrich-March did in coloring the piece done by Russell Platt and in my personal opinion consider it to be a tasteful nude without explicit sexual overtones.

However in case anyone finds an image to be "obscene, vulgar, references to bodily functions or body parts are also forbidden," I always put up the "NSFW" where such image could be considered such.

And if you do take the time to go through my gallery on deviantArt you will find the majority of commissioned pieces involve heroes and heroines fully attired.

I have no problem with you or the art, but its subject matter is not allowed.

From your quote:

and from that post, a little below where you got your quote:
[ QUOTE ]
4. You may not post or link to any sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive imagery or content.

[/ QUOTE ]

Please keep NSFW off these forums... its against the rules to post them even if you label them as NSFW.

As an aside, I hope you're doing better

It's never been a problem before on these boards, dunno why you feel the need to make scene about it.

Posted

That's your own thing if you don't see posting NSFW material as a problem, but the rules do.

Ash is right in terms of rules, but you also have to consider that the rules are interpretted by the moderators not the players. If the moderators deem it ok to post a "NSFW" art work with a warning of "NSFW" it is their choice. Personally I don't care as long as it doesn't involve a form of Pr0nz.

The NSFW pieces posted here and on the other threads featuring such items are usually very "Tasteful" and not considered pr0nz.

It is a very pretty piece of artwork, it looks great man!

The fact that it's a Russ Platt piece trumps pretty much anything. The man's a wizard with the pencils.

And I fail to see the connection between "sexually explicit" and "bare bosom". But, this IS the society that deemed a single bare nipple shown on prime time TV for a fraction of a second was damaging to the American psyche as a whole, so, yeah, probably not a good idea to post the link.

I'll bet the Euro forums get a kick out of it though.

Like the other person said: Deviantart doesn't show you the sexy pictures unless you're registered and logged in. So I don't see how it breaches the rules.

I fail to see anything sexually explicit, harmful, threatening or ethnically offensive (unless you happen to have a thing against pointy eared elf-type creatures!).

I've never been pulled up or shoulder tapped by a moderator before for any breach of decency regarding posting of inappropriate imagery and I always warn about pieces of art that may cause offense (violence or nudity).

I appreciate the pencilwork the Russell Platt did, and the amazing work with color that Dietrich-March did (Russ has just commented on this). All I want to do is share what I consider to be a fine piece of art.

So thanks to those who do enjoy Albtraum 2, and for those who don't, thanks for stopping by anyway!

I personally can see the difference between "Nude" and "Sexually Explicit" - do you not see any difference?

Posted

There is a vast difference between nudity and sexually explicity. Just because there is a breast showing doesn't mean the piece is over the top. To illustrate the difference, I could easily make something sexually explicit while keeping the figure completely clothed. Sexual explicity is more a reflection of HOW the subject is treated, and not the level of undress portrayed. In this particular case, the nudity is handled with classiness.

And for the OP; thank you for marking the piece NSFW. Even though I think the piece is fine (even well done), the rulers of many workplaces might not and adding the mark doesn't hurt anything - just a gentle warning in case the viewer is in a more conservative environment. I frequent dozens of art boards daily, and marking something with a NSFW tag is standard protocol.

EnnVee:

Comrade Hero didn't do the work on these pieces. They were commissioned artwork, done up by other people.

However... full credit is given on all three... so you could hit up the artist pages, and see what their rates are.

Oh, is that how this place works now? Two dolts come here to be nothing but [censored] and one person tells them to shut the f up and he gets edited. Nice job.

Missed what part? The two jackoffs throwing the whole NSFW thing around like the OP posted some hardcore porn. Surely you cant miss that or you just choose to miss things.

Posted

So I guess most of my pieces would be considered NSFW just because of lack of clothes then right???

Sheesh. If you are really truly 'offended' then click the 'report post' button and let a moderator take care of it. Don't click on it as it's clearly marked NSFW and quitcher complaining. You can also PM the poster and mention that you don't think it should be posted as well, it doesn't have to turn into a public flame fest.

Btw in the above paragraph I was using the general 'you' meaning everyone, not any one particular 'you'.

Thank you for the arts, they are great!

Exactly.

Seriously, we (the art community) have been posting NSFW stuff for a long LONG time; when someone new to this section stumbles in and gets bent out of shape over it, I'm sorry - but no you are not going to be accommodated.

We don't post porn or anything particularly graphic, just a little artistic nudity. And ya know what? You can see the same damn thing in a PG13 film.

I mean heck, if you're a chubby guy or if you're female, take your shirt off and look down! GASP! YOU HAVE FLESHY TISSUE IN A SHAPE RESEMBLING A HUMAN BREAST!

If you don't want to see it - don't look at it.

And no - I don't care if young kids see it; ya know why?

A) They're going to see it eventually - most are probably already looking up porn by the time they're on a forum like this any way.

B) A boob will not hurt you. It cannot barring something extremely awkward. I'm sorry if it offends you - but get the frak over it. If a drawn breast can traumatize or upset you; then I think you've got deeper problems to worry about than said drawn boobies.

And yes, just in case you must know, I *AM* in a pissy mood over this, because I see this kind of tight arsed prudery so freaking often here.

In summary: If you've got a problem with NSFW stuff, don't click it. If you've got a problem with OTHER people clicking it - then get the hell over yourself.

Damn... that felt kinda good.

Now back to your regularly scheduled squirrel <x.x>m

(And no, don't bother arguing with me about this - This is my one post on the matter, and I don't care HOW much you hate me for it. I'm sick to death of prudes and I've got no time for them anymore.)

I don't post in these parts often (I sometimes lurk from time to time) and I guess I could be considered a "Screenshots and Fan Art Forum N00b." I personally see absolutely nothing wrong with posting something that's NSFW (and has been marked as such) on these forums so long as they're in good taste. As mentioned by mistformsquirrel, artistic nudity is no worse than what you'd see in a PG13 flick. Plus, any 13 year old kid who's taken an art class has already been exposed to artistic nudity (not to mention the ones who were exposed to a little of the non-artistic variety by stealing their dads' girlie mags ). I guess I'm one of those rare noobs who understands the difference between artistic nudity and porn. The NSFW disclaimer does come in handy though for those instances that I am at work (so I can hold off on viewing the piece until I get home).

To be honest, I consider Albtraum 2 my favorite of the three. The overall composition is beautiful and I absolutely love the use of color. I feel a tad bit chilly just looking at it...which is fantastic in 100+ degree weather.

Nudity vs Sexually Explicit

Example 1
Nudity: Turbo-Ski nude on her bed
Sexually Explicit: Turbo-Ski nude on her bed and having intimate contact with ice crafted toy

Example 2
Nudity: Turbo-Ski and Red Kite bathing nude in a hot spring
Sexually Explicit: Red Kite having sex with Turbo-Ski while nude in a hot spring

Really I could keep going on...I have like 2 whole pages of stuff like this.
