Ish 11 SUPER-TANKERMIND Guide for ALL Masterminds

Now with issue 11 and some of the new Inventions that are out I figured it was a good time to go back and reexamine the Super-Tankermind Bot/FF or Thug/FF build guide I had made for issue 9.

Some revisions and alterations to the IO slottings have been made with this new build for issue 11. The Prime Function of this guide is to illustrate how you can make your Robot or Thug /FF Mastermind and then take them from being a mere Tanker-mind and transform them into a SUPER TANKERMIND both in terms of shield power and IO bonuses.

Also please note that yes Mid's Hero Planner was used to make the builds in this guide, and a big thank you goes to Lord of Time and Naienko! My thanks to them for their tireless efforts to assist Mid's in bringing the issue 11 update out to his fantastic program.

Yes there is a distinct lack of attack powers in the build. Why? You don’t need them. Your robots are killing machines and should be slotted accordingly. You will have your force bolt power to knock away foes that get to close to you or to attract their attention if need be. Also these builds are designed to max up your bots and shields right away. You can either build into these as you level up your character or respec your character into them if you are in the higher levels.

Also of course, what this is a guide not gospel. No one says you must use this if you don't choose too.

Now for some common questions:

1. Why are all the shields 6 slotted? Haven't you heard of Enhancement Diversification?
Answer: Yeah I am painfully aware of Enhancement Diversification. I am also keenly aware of the IO's and their set bonuses. These builds are designed to max up your defense and promote long life to the character.

2. Why no attack powers for the mastermind?
Answer: look again; your pets are your attack powers.

3. How can I tank if I don’t have the Presence power pool to draw aggro? Drawing aggro is part of tanking!
Answer: yes I know that. However your Force Bolt can get the attention of Targets and once you are Level 38, take Force Bubble. Trust me that power will draw the aggro in your direction, have no fear.

Also here is a macro to install into your power tray: /macro BG "petcom_all Follow Defensive"
Simply copy and paste that into your chat field and press enter and you should now see a grey button labeled BG in one of your power trays. That is a macro and it sets your bots to follow and defend you, which puts you and your pets into bodyguard mode.

Bodyguard mode is when the pets are on defense/follow and within range of the Mastermind. It enables damage to be shared among the mastermind and a pet, thus dispersing some of the damage the Mastermind receives and promotes survivability. Now combine bodyguard mode with your shields…..

Other Macros to have: /macro GOTO "petcom_all GOTO" click this and you can then direct all your minions to move to a spot that you designate. This macro can be very useful especially if you have Group Fly.

SECTION 2: Pool Powers to use

Fitness: this power pool is a must have for many characters, and a Mastermind is no exception. I usually start Fitness at Level 8.

So when you take the Fitness power pool, what to start with, Swift or Hurdle? I'll leave that to you to decide. I tend to prefer speed either for run or fly so I always take Swift.

Fitness/Health is available as of level 14 and I always take this power at level 14 and add 2 slots at level 15. Promotes longer life at early levels and is something of a tradition for me.
With IO's now in effect in the game, Fitness/Health for a Mastermind is now perhaps best slotted with: 2 Miracle (Heal and the unique Miracle+recovery), 1 Numina (the Unique Numina Regen/Recovery) and the Regenerative Tissue +Regeneration IO's. Slotting all those Unique IO's into Health is the equivalent of installing Energizer batteries with jumper cables attached to them that lead into a power generator into your character. Plus 2 slotting Miracle is a 2.5% boost to stamina Recovery.

To clarify for those that don't fully understand why I advocate slotting the unique Heal IO's into Health, I'll explain. The way they work is that for 2 minutes after a power is used you get the extra benefit from them. Use the power again, and the clock resets. Health however is a passive/always on power. In a post from forum member UberBuy about Fitness/Health:

"Toggles and passives have a hidden behavior. For however long a toggle is on, and constantly for passive powers, these powers quietly re-activate on timers. In Health, this timer is 10s long. This means that in Health, every 10s the 120s timer of the IO is restarted, meaning it never wears out."

Stamina: Stamina should be 3 slotted and now thanks to Issue 11 there are new Endurance Modifier power sets out there. I now use on my bot/poison Test toon this slotting for Stamina: 1 Level 50 normal IO Endurance Modifier and 2 of the new Performance Shifter set. One being an End Mod IO and the other being new 20% Chance for +Endurance Recovery, and slotting 2 Performance Shifter gives a 5% run speed increase. This power becomes available at level 20 and I always add the slots at level 21. If you are mainly a solo player you could go without Stamina since the slot bonuses for recovery in these builds should be able to keep you going under most circumstances.

Medicine Pool

Aid Other + Aid Self: taken so that my toon has another way to heal both his pets and any teammates Instead of Repair, and Aid Self is so he can mend his own. Also these are powers that can be slotted to give either regeneration or recovery bonus to your toon. Never pass up a chance to boost either of those.

Leadership Pool
Maneuvers....Once I considered this to be the "red headed step child" of the Leadership powers, but now this power is very useful since inventions came out. Slot this with 4 Luck of the Gambler to provide 10% regen boost, health increase and 9% accuracy boost to all powers. Also if you are a Thug Mastermind, you'll find that the leadership powers mesh very well with the leadership given by your Tier 2 minions

Tactics: new to hit buff Inventions are part of issue 11. Among them is the set Rectified Recticle which contains a Unique IO that increases your characters Perception by 20% for 120 seconds. So as long as Tactics is activated this power is constantly in effect and the timer on it resets. Turn off tactics and you still have 2 minutes of enhanced perception. Nice to have for PvP zones or if a PvE foe uses a smoke bomb or mind attack to cloud your vision.

Assault: well not much to say about this. It boosts damage done by your pets, by you and by any teammates and their pets. Just slot one endurance reducer into it and be done. Don't bother putting any more slots into this power, there are no special sets for it and you cannot slot damage boosters into it.

Vengeance: if you are someone who prefers to solo or only teams on rare occasions, then this power is to be discarded. You cannot use it on a fallen pet, so it's useless to solo oriented players.

Travel Power

Well there is and always will be debates over which travel power is better. For me, I guess I'm just more of a "traditionalist" in that I prefer to Fly. While not the fastest power, it certainly can be considered the safest. Just fly at high altitudes in the zones and then dive towards your mission door, thus bypassing hazards and dangerous foes.

Hover: I slot this with Karma: Knock-back Protection. It’s a mag -4 protection from Knock-back and is in effect at all times. Hover also burns far less stamina then fly so you could hover around shooting poison at enemies, and enjoy the defense conferred by the power itself plus the protection from Knock-back.

Fly: best slotted with 2 Freebird inventions: one for speed the other for +stealth so that you are cloaked while in Flight. You also get 8% regeneration from 2 Freebirds slotted. If you can get a Hami-o that boosts flight speed and cuts down on Endurance use from the power then devote a third slot for it.

Group Fly: ok if you are primarily a solo player then consider taking this power as your final power choice. While not always useful there are times when flying robots can be useful and flying robots look pretty cool with their boot jets flaring as they fly around. Simply practice moving the bots around with a GOTO Macro while they are in flight and be sure to always be near them so they don't drop to the ground after being out of the anti-grav field you radiate with this power. If you are more team oriented in your playing of the game, then either skip this power or prepare to be hated by your teammates if you use it. If you dont want this power then take Pulse Rifle Burst so you have another attack power.

SECTION 3: Patron Powers:
The Patron I chose for my own bot/ff was Scirocco since his lightning powers fit the theme of my character. Also I like hurling lightning bolts too. However the Patron powers are all essentially the same except for Black Scorpion's armor power being Defense rather then Resistance. Some like to take that patron power to max up their defense and that's fine, I simply prefer a slight alternative so that I can slot some particular IO's that aren't defense but resistance ones. In any event your Patron choice is your own and I refuse to waste time with "My patron is better then yours" arguments.

SECTION 4: Robot Power Set Choices

As with any Masterminds you should claim your pet powers and upgrade powers as soon as they are available. To do otherwise isn't wise.

Battledrones: these are claimed when the character is created. Your 2nd drone is available at level 6 and the third one at level 18

Equip Robot: this is available at level 6 and must be taken immediately, especially since at level 6 you gain your 2nd battle drone so why wouldn't you take the upgrade power??

Protector bots: this power is avail at level 12 and your second protector bot is gained at level 24.

Assault bot: available at level 26 and not taking this power at level 26 is absurd. If you have to ask why, just don’t play a Mastermind.

Upgrade Robot: your 2nd and final upgrade power. This power bestows more power to your pets and is a must have power. If you have to ask why, just don’t play a Mastermind.

SECTION 5: Force Field Power Selections

Deflection Shield: this power is available at level 2

Insulation Shield: this power is available at level 4

Personal Force Field: this power is available at level 16

Dispersion Bubble: this power is available at level 20: and this is where a choice is to be made: if you plan to take

Fitness/Stamina: that power is also available at level 20. I always choose Stamina at 20 for any toon of mine that takes it then add slots to it at level 21. Thus Dispersion bubble is claimed at level 22. You can make it to level 22 without Dispersion Bubble, so if you feel you should have Stamina, take it. I also like having Stamina, since while some think it's a redundant power to have in this build, I like some redundancy. Redundancy sometimes keeps your toon going.

Force Bubble: this is available at level 38, and is your aggro tool. With this power on you will easily draw aggro to your toon, so you won't need the Presence power pool at all. Force Bubble is also fun to use since you can crush some foes into walls and corners and let the pets blast em while they are helpless. Please note that if a foe is strong enough they will not be pushed away by Force bubble and can still reach you to engage in melee combat. You have been warned. Also when on a Team, be judicious of your use of this power, your teammates will thank you.

Forcefield powers that I considered unimportant for the purpose of this guide:

Detention Field: useful if you frequent the PvP zones, for PvE its not that needed.

Repulsion Field: for every foe knocked away by this power, your stamina drops. In certain situations this can cause a rapid power drain especially if you are running the Leadership powers and Dispersion bubble. Also with Force Bubble, Repulsion Field isn't that needed.

Repulsor Bomb: I've tried to like this power, really. I just don't. It's also not needed for a Super Tankermind anyway.

SECTION 6: New Inventions with issue 11

Now we get to the goodies from issue 11. Before issue 11 there were no specialty Invention Sets for hit buff powers. Leadership: Tactics now contains specialty IO including a unique one that boosts Perception for as long as the power is on and for 2 minutes afterward. There are also new Super Purple IO that are for Level 50 toons to slot in. These IO's are supercharged by comparison to previous IO sets and contain their own special bonuses and penalties.

SECTION 6a: NEW SUPER-PURPLE INVENTIONS

Ok so what are these? These are special invention sets that some powers can now equip once they are crafted. These provide some serious power boosts and nice set bonuses but before you all rush out to try and get these, please take note of the following caveats and addendums (or perhaps best phrased as: Power Comes with a Price)

<ul type="square"> 1. These can ONLY be slotted by a Level 50 character. However, their set bonuses are supposed to be active no matter how far down you malefactor your character, even to level 1.
2. They are UNIQUE Inventions: so you can have only ONE set of each of these new sets in your character. Mastermind Pets have a new set called Soulbound Allegiance, but as it's a unique set, you can only slot one full set into one pet power. Yes you could slot 2 components of these sets into different powers and reap the 2 slot bonus however I am not entirely sure that is a good idea. More on that later.
3. They will cost 600,000 infamy per set component to craft.
4. Some of them will require some rare/expensive salvage to make.
5. These sets emphasize POWER and the repeated usage of said POWER. They don’t necessarily emphasize accuracy.[/list]

Now then let us talk about the new Super Pet Set: Soulbound Allegiance.

Here are the specific components to the set:
Damage (Superior)
Damage/Recharge (Superior)
Damage/Endurance (Superior)
Accuracy/Recharge (Superior)
Accuracy/Damage/recharge (Superior)
Chance for Build up: this is about a 20% chance for your pets to build up/power boost themselves for their next attack to augment the accuracy and damage.

Now look at all those damage boosters in the set….nice huh? Notice though that only 2 components deal with Accuracy and they are dual or tri components…..not so nice. Here below are the current percentages for 6 slotting this set:

Accuracy: 59.63%
Damage: 103.45%
Endurance Discount: 33.13%
Recharge: 89.93%

Now that is nice damage and nice endurance savings for the pets that are slotted with this. That recharge percentage though seems a tad high since it effects the recharge rate of the summon power and doesn’t seem to effect the firing rate of the pets themselves. The killer is the Accuracy percentage. Here are the current set bonuses that you receive from this new set:

Soulbound Allegiance
+16% Regeneration
+36.2 (3%) HitPoints
+4% DamageBuff
+MezResist (Held) (Mag 4.4%)
+5% Defense (Psionic)

So now comes the questions: should I 6 slot this set and which pet do I choose? Should I break the set up and 2 slot each into my pet powers?

Starting with the third question about breaking the set up amongst your pet powers and thus gaining the 16% regen boost 3 times over: yes I am a fan of regeneration boosts; however I don’t believe it wise to split this set up amongst your pet powers. Look at the set bonuses again: regen boost, hit point increase, 4% damage boost to your non-pet powers, 4.4% resist to holds, and the beauty of the set 5% psionic defense. Psionic protection is something to rarely ignore. Also these are Unique IO so can't slot more then one of each component into your toon. Your optimal choice is to pick one pet power to slot all the set pieces into, which leads to the next question:

Should I 6 slot this set and which pet do I choose? I've tried this set in its entirety on Test and I liked it, though the chance for build up component needs a tune up to be more effective. While the accuracy percentage left something to be desired, I found that by 6 slotting this set into my BATTLE DRONES to be worth it. Why the battle drones? Simple: they are your first pet power, and while the set bonuses are supposed to carry with you no matter how far down you malefactor, this particular feature of the new IO's is reported as bugged at this time, and if there must be a pet that has less then preferred accuracy boost, it should be the Battle Drones. Once drones are fully upgraded at level 32+ they gain a turbo-strafe-salvo attack that does very well, hence I can live with them having slightly gimped accuracy boost percentages, and again: set bonuses do not apply to the pets, only you, so don’t think you can six slot your assault bot with this new set and turn it into a juggernaut, it doesn’t work that way.

SECTION 7 BOT/FF SUPER TANKER MIND BUILD
This build is for those that prefer to solo, but it is also good for teaming. No it doesn’t have Vengeance and that is due to the fact that it's more oriented to the solo player. Vengeance isn't mandatory for a Mastermind to have when on a team, and since with this build you can easily solo your missions why would you waste a power choice on Vengeance?

I like your guides. I think you may want to also consider that the great thing about /FF is that you can get ~ 40% def to ranged attacks by slotting Red Fortune sets in your shields and combat jumping, topped off with a Trap of The Hunter Set in the Mu pool AOE immob. 40% ranged def is nice.

I've tried those sets and like em, I just like being a walking energizer battery with maxed shields

As a Bots 'n Bubbles MM myself I don't find Force Bubble to be very good at drawing aggro. I typically leave it on all of the time and I rarely feel the need to bother even switching the bots into bodyguard mode, mobs tend to naturally shoot at my bots instead of me. I do have Scorpion's shield, but it's more of an insurance policy than anything else (the real gem of Scorpion's powers is the targeted AoE immobilize, which prevents mobs from escaping the burn patches (well, until my own bots knockback does so at least).

Force bubble is an insanely wonderful tool for the build however because it means my bots are almost never switched into melee mode and can keep pumping out their far more powerful (and AoE) ranged attacks instead. It does annoy some people when I'm teamed up (brutes/stalkers), but the near certainty of never having a mob melee you or any of your pets is an incredible defense buff.

I concur with this. I have a Robot/FF MM who is absolutely uber. I am not sure why the writer chose the patron power he did. Robots and Force Field are all about DEFENSE! The only patron power that grants a defensive armor is Black Scorpion. The object, with bubbles, is not to get hit!

Black Scorpion's armor is number one for this set, all others are number two or lower...

I am Airman America... Super Hero... and I approve this message!

One issue I discovered with your "I don't need Provoke" idea. Ouroborus mission that delevel you. If you want to tankermind at low levels Provoke is the way to go. I use Force Bolt but it does not compare in aggro management to Provoke. Your pets can easily grab the aggro from any mob you don't hit with Force Bolt and then all hell can break loose. However since the devs posted an explanation of how taunt and aggro work there is a way to manage aggro through position. The closer you are to a target the more aggro you generate so I put myself on top of the target and attacked as best I could (Force Bolts, Sands of Mu and Blackwand). But if I missed even once I tended to loose aggro. I found it easy to maintain aggro with only one target but difficult with a group. So although you can manage aggro without Provoke, I prefer Provoke.

I also did not take leadership. My issue is that without many attacks or the Leadership pool, I don't need Stamina. With Leadership I need Stamina. So instead of Leadership being 2 or 3 slots, it's actually 5 or 6 slots (depending on how many Leadership powers you want). It wasn't worth it to me and I haven't had any problems with it in PvE. But that's my personal choice (I always stubbornly try to find a way not to take Stamina just to show you don't need it).

Section 3 covers why I took Scirocco and also that I refuse to delve into any form of "my patron is better then yours" stuff.

I am well aware of Black Scorpion being a defense armor however u might also notice that I dont slot up defense in the Protectorbots too. Neither Scorpion's armor nor the Prot. bots having defense IO are needed for me.

Also take another look at whats slotted into my Patron armor...Psi protections.

Heh. If I felt comfy dropping Stamina I'd gladly do so. But I like some redundancy at times....wouldn't want the batteries to run dry in a heavy combat scenario.

I tried this build on build 2, I haven't slotted the I/O's but just using S/O's, I have only one thing to say: Sick, Sick, Sick! I Love this build!
My first build is set as a support role, heal, rez, TP, Team bubbles, ect. However, the solo build now allows me to go into PVP areas with ease! I wish I could see the look on the scrappers face when their power strike fails to hit. Woot! thank you for the post, I made more than a few jaws drop lastnight. I can't wait untill I get the I/O's slotted to see the true potential. Great guide, reguardless of what the other posts say.

I've only recently tried MM's. Started off with a Ninja/Pain MM, then I discovered this one. Hoe-lee car-hap! What a great build, and such fun to play! I solo, mostly, with the very, very occasional team mission, and I'm enjoying this build, either way. Thanks for posting it!

I can get 44.78% def to Ranged and 42.14% def to AoE with Bots/Dark/Mu. When I get bubbled by my bots I'm +50% def on those 2 and my melee def goes to about 30%.
And when you factor in all the /Dark goodness of debuffs (like -Dmg -Regen and -toHit), Bots/Dark/Mu is a GM slayer. Ive taken a few down solo.

Man i can't copy/paste those builds in mids's 'cause of the 'wink' emoticons of the forum, can you repost it again without 'em ??

(And yes, I tried to just replace 'em for:

I killed my first GM with Lvl30.
But I'm Robo/Traps... I wouldn't try it with FF, the -reg of your bots is not enough to solo GMs in a reasonable time.

+1

Would be nice if the OP would correct these build codes, or some other kind soul would post them if they've gone through the trouble to rebuild them.

You exported them in the wrong format. They need to be Official Forums (vbulletin).
They need to be fixed for inherit fitness to.
