Bay Area Meet The Devs Event!
Akuma,
There is a group of players coming down from Sac, I am guessing if you coordinated and cooperated on gas money and schedules you could probably find a ride.

That could happen but it depends on work schedule. If its really going to be on friday and at 7 I probably wont be able to go at all, I can't really take time off of work and I would be able to leave home at 5:30ish at best case scenario which leaves me an hour and a half to get from where I live to milpitas which I doubt will ever happen with friday rush traffic.
oh well. I was really looking forward to it, I may still be able to work it out but I don't know, doesn't look good.
I think it's about time the "Second City" of the U.S., aka Chicago, got some player event loving...

If it's a ride that's the issue, I can offer a ride. But I can't help suspect that it's probably moreso the timing (right after work on a Friday) than it is the ride.
Unfortunately, Milpitas is close enough to Sacramento that some people can't warrant taking the time off. But it's also just far enough away that there won't be enough time to commute to the event right after work. For example, if a Sacramentan gets off at 5pm and they leave directly from work...they won't get to D&B until 6:30pm under the best of traffic conditions (which is highly unlikely during Friday rush hour).
I can't speak for everyone from Sacto (since I'm one of the luckier ones who will probably be able to arrange to take a couple hours off so I can make it)...but I suspect we're going to loose a lot of players from Sacramento if the meet 'n greet ends up being scheduled at 6pm on a Friday. And that'd be such a shame since Sacramento is pretty darn close to the Bay.
Again, I understand that it's likely very tricky booking a venue during the Holiday season. If a Saturday is impossible and you can only get a Friday, is there perhaps a way to compromise and push back the time a bit (instead of 6pm-11pm, make it 7pm-12am or 8pm-1am?) so those who have to commute a little farther can make it?
EDIT - It dawned on me as I was driving to work this morning that I live on the westernmost edge of the Sacramento area and my little town is about 30 minutes closer to the Bay area than the core of Sacramento. So my estimate in my example above was a bit incorrect. Taking this into account if a Sacramentan who lives or works in downtown Sacramento gets off at 5pm and they leave directly from work...they won't get to D&B until 7:00pm under the best of traffic conditions (taking into consideration a 2 hour commute from downtown Sac to Milpitas under good traffic conditions. Again, this will likely take longer considering Friday rush hour).
How about the 'Bay State' instead. Mass would love to have ya. Or RI works too....theres a D&B there too. Come to the NE!!

If it is on Friday, I won't be able to go at all, as I work evenings.
It would be a lot of fun to drive down with a group of people... ROAD TRIP!
...but if it isn't on a Saturday, I won't be able to go.

We are currently working on planning and promoting a Bay Area "Meet the Dev's" Event.

"Bay Area"? Would that be the Saginaw Bay Area? I hope so, because I would love a chance to meet the Dev team.

I would love to attend but there are many reasons why I can't. The two main reasons: It's on my birthday and I can't afford traveling to or staying in SF.
OK, having lived in the Bay area for, oh, 10 years... I can definitely say that Milpitas would be hell to get to on a Friday afternoon. The Great Mall of Milpitas is at the confluence of two of the biggest traffic-jam freeways (880 and 680), plus you're looking at all the folks who would want to get there from the Peninsula (101, San San Mateo or Dumbarton bridges) or from Santa Cruz (Highway 17).
Strange as it may seem, I would actually recommend that you consider San Francisco's Sony Metreon as an alternate location.
Here's why:
It's a short walk to the BART station (hey we're heroes, we take the tram everywhere!) which is BY FAR the best transport in and out of SF. The parking lots for the various outlying stations are usually emptying out as people commute OUT of the city, they're well lit, and if you travel BART... parking is validated. Plus the Metreon has all sorts of cool stuff going on, there's a skating rink nearby, and it's right across the street from Moscone Center and a short walk to SF MOMA (Museum of Modern Art.)
Granted, you get to deal with SF's street people... but hey, those from the Rogue Isles should feel right at home.
OTHERWISE... I'd suggest one of the more centrally located 'bedroom communities' in the East Bay someplace. Finding a venue might be tricky, but parking will be more plentiful and it'll be slightly easier to get to than... ew... Milpitas...
That's my take. Personally... I'm holding out for a meet in Dallas... Austin was ubercool, but we need Jomaro "MMOArt" Kindred to show up, and so far my attempts of luring him out of his studio for a beer have not been successful.
"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."
If he wasnt married I'd say try beer and loose women
Soul_Train's post is right on the money. D&B is moderately amusing but a PITA to get to. Traffic is hell, parking is hell, and the only mass transit is the Light Rail (if, indeed, they've opened that part up yet).
Given the player community and the likelihood of a fair amount of drinking going on, I really want mass public transit to be a VERY easy choice and nearby hotels to be plentiful.
It is a lot closer for Dev Team to drive to Dave & Busters than San Francisco.
Ex Libris is doing the best she can to accomodate Dev's schedule and the community. I know she cannot make everyone happy.
I'll see you guys someday when you're in the Pacific NW. There's a pretty substantial gamer population here, and quite a lot of City players.
Please try MA arc ID 351455, "Shard Stories: Scavenger's Hunt." Originally created for the Dr. Aeon contest, it explores the wild potential of one of the City's most concept-rich but content-poor settings: the Shadow Shard.
I'd love to go to one but I'm on the wrong side of the US it seemes.
Me too, but it's not very likely, Arizona is a bit off the beaten track by the listing of where people are from.
Of course, if they had something in San Diego, it would be nice to go there... hehe.
Phoenix would be even better...
i think i might road trip it to the bay area from OC for that event...i dont know a single person that plays this game...would be good to meet some players and others

If there is anyone that has an idea for a player workshop or developers panel please let me know what you would be most interested in seeing.

I wont be at the Meet n' Greet, but here are a few topics I'd be interested in seeing:
* How to host a community event (e.g. how do you arrange something like Tanker Tuesday?)
* How to effectively advocate for change (e.g. basically, what do dev's look for in a suggestion, the necessity to use math to justify changes in power sets, how devs view "balance")
* How Devs create power sets (from the numbers side (Castle's job) to animation)
* How Devs create zones (basically, an elaboration on War Witch's explanation on how she goes about creating/revamping zones - very interesting read)
* Things you wanted to know but were afraid to ask about the Devs (this was inspired from Ex Libris' pictures of the devs' natural habitat - it's interesting to know the 'behind the scenes' stuff)
* How to create a COX music video (I've seen these on youtube...some might be interested in making their own if they know how)

Agreed. Chicago is popular for hosting business conferences...why not something like a meet n' greet?
I'm waiting for them to head back out to Orlando/Florida sometime.
They are doing this M&G because its in their neck of the woods. After all their travel and crap, we owe them sometime at home!
I'm really considering heading down from Portland. The meet n greets we've had up here have been a blast. That particular weekend works for me...but I need to set up a place to stay right quick. Ex..will you be putting out a list of nearby hotels, motels, hostels, yurts, cardboard boxes, etc?
Now to rally a full Oregon contingent...

you heard that too? i thought that one was just a rumor...

Its the right coast for me but still too far. I live in Sac and that's in the Bay Area. Sadly, Sac isn't like the big town for events like this, SF and LA are.
