  1. Like many posters, COH was my first MMO. I learned a lot of things about online gaming that made me appreciate this game, and the industry, much more. You've done a lot of great things, features that I've since taken for granted, and now want (but find that - very often - I can't). It's amazing how far COH has come in eight years.

I also met a lot of great people, some whom I've since called friends. Though I don't know many of you personally, I've always considered the COH community (both in and out-of-game) the best online community I've known. Perhaps, I'll ever know.

So, thanks to the community and the devs for an AWESOME GAME! It is these wonderful memories that I will take with me.
  2. For the folks who are considering The Secret World, I think it's a great game, and have been playing it regularly since its official release. But there are a few things I'd consider first:

    1. The atmosphere, story arcs and mission designs are darn good.

    2. There are no classes and the power system is open ended. That being said, I have found that my background with COH mechanics has helped me understand TSW's "power" ability wheel. But it's more complicated than COH's power structure. It also is quite possible to gimp your character (I've heard; I'm still in the starter towns).

    3. TSW is graphically intense. I had purchased a new computer this year to play COH in Ultra Mode (and I was able to do that at mid-level settings with no problems). OTOH, my FPS rate were horrid in TSW until I purchased a high level graphics card (which works like a charm now).

    4. IMHO, I don't find TSW to be team friendly (or at least duo friendly), unlike COH. This is due to certain story arcs forcing you to enter solo instances. Now, it's not that big of a problem for me, but it is annoying when I want to duo with my brother through an entire story arc. We literally have to play separate instances and wait until the other person is done before regrouping. This is one of my biggest gripes with the game.

    5. You only get 4 slots (you can purchase more I believe), so my altitis is severely limited =) But the game is designed so you can literally have all abilities (given time) in one character.

Anyway, give me a PM if you are considering it and want to know more.
  3. As a returning player who levelled up during the Statesman era, I think a Statesman (and Sister Psyche) statue and/or outdoor memorial would be a great idea.

In fact, they should host an in-game event at the "grand opening" of the memorial - on multiple servers and multiple times so everyone has a chance to attend one =)
  4. Hey guys (or nugget =), thanks for confirming it's a bug.

I thought there was something wrong with my rig (besides not being able to handle high end graphics/Ultra). Cuz when shields first came out, I distinctly remember being able to change the shield design.

So, I'll (unhappily) wait for the fix....
  5. My graphic settings are right in the middle of the slider (my rig can't handle the upper end or Ultra, for example). I'm thinking that should be enough, however.

Emblems do appear, just not the Shield background.

    Bummer.

    But thanks for the reply!
  6. A returning player, here.

Anyway, I tried to customize my shield. I am able to add an emblem and can select a background color for the face of the shield. But when I choose a background design in a different color, like red Tierce on a blue cavalier shield, that design does not appear. (In other words, the background color stays the same.) I've scrolled through all the different designs, and none of them work (even though I am able to select them).

Real bummer for my (future) shield toons.

I've bugged this, but I'm hoping someone has an answer (or at least, it's been an identified bug). Any advice?

What I am looking for is a fair solo, strong grouping tank. This is my first toon here, so I haven't been around the block, so to speak.

I don't know what AV is. (Arch Villain?) I met my first last night in a SG while being SK'd. I don't know if I'd ever be able to take on one of those.

I am also still sort of learning about the various enhancements. I see now that I am still having endurance issues. Any suggestions for builds would be very much appreciated. Keeping in mind I don't have resources from alt's to purchase crazy Enhancements or "Hami O's" which I have seen talked about so much on the forums.

But I do appreciate the comments so far and any further build suggestions or "fixes" would be great. If I16 offers a rebuild offer, I will fix my first build and play with the alternate build with more damage output or something.
Have a L50 Inv/Fire (g0dWrath) moderately IO'd out. I'm an altoholic, but he's my favorite (and first 50). Invulnerability is a solid, defensive set that really shines in a group of mobs. Fortunately, that's where you want to be with Fiery Melee too, since it has some nice PBAOEs (Fire Sword Circle, Combustion and to a lesser extent Breath of Fire).

    Invulnerability

You have the basic Inv powers covered (Dull Pain, Temporary Invulnerability, Invincibility and Unyielding). I'm a fan of Tough Hide, though I wouldn't slot it until much later. I would have slotted my attacks before TH.

You're at a point in your build where there are some power choices to make.

At 32, you have an opportunity to choose Unstoppable - a love-it-or-leave it power. Some people like it (because you get almost limitless endurance and your resists go WAY up - it's a nice feeling, trust me!). Others don't (mainly b/c there is a significant crash at the end). There's ways around the crash but the power certainly isn't necessary to have. Since you're new, and if you want to see what Inv is capable of, I'd try it and see how it goes (and perhaps you can respec it out if you don't like it).

Passive powers (besides Tough Hide)...what can be said about these? They were buffed a few issues ago. I'd say that most would recommend RPD > REn > REl. Some skip them entirely. I took REn only - but that was before the buffs. Resist Defense debuff (found in RPD and REl IIRC) are pretty good later on (lvl 40+) and should be useful now too.

Fiery Melee has no status effects like stuns or KDs. So, to achieve the lvl of survivability I wanted, I had to delve into the pools. Boxing/Tough/Weave are good pool choices that work well with Inv. Tough and Weave can consume a lot of end, so be careful. You will feel both if you are running both toggles; they're managable but you'll feel it. I would put at least some End reduction into them (like 1 SO).

    Fiery Melee

Kudos to your patience. It seems like your only ST attacks are scorch (your beginner power) and boxing. I couldn't handle lvling without Fire Sword. In any case, I would recommend getting Incinerate and Greater Fire Sword at lvls 35 and 38. Incinerate can be deceiving; it does good dmg but over time so it may not seem that great early on. Greater Fire Sword, well, does most dmg ST-wise. Together, they make a good 1-2 combo vs ST.

I only took one Ancillary Power Pool: char for the hold. Since I wanted to build a pretty tough tanker (delving into Tough/Weave), that was the sacrifice I was willing to make.

All this changes if you are going the IO route. That's a complex topic so I'll hold off for now.

Oh, don't forget you have *two* builds you can play with.

Good luck. Inv/Fire is a fun combo!

Don't bother checking contacts that are in your inactive list.

Call or visit every single contact that is in your active list. They either have stuff for you to do, or someone to introduce you to.

You didn't say you did this the last time I suggested it, so I'm suggesting it again. There are a few no-origin contacts in the game now that don't have origin restrictions on who they will introduce.
Are you suggesting to contact each active contact to activate Cadao? Or to make the point that only active contacts have something for you to do (or direct you to someone else)?

In any case, I don't have many active contacts at this point:

    * Anton Sampson, Gordan Stacy, Ginger Yates and Colleen Nelson. I just activated Anton Sampson and Colleen Nelson. All 4 work as intended in terms of granting missions.
    * Buck Salinger
    * Senator Decimus Aquila
    * The Pilgrim

I have contacted each of them (but not necessarily accepted a mission) and none of them directed me to Cadao (nor would I expect them to). The contact I did expect to direct me to Cadao was Peter Stemitz (or Allison King, but I don't have her as a contact)...but he's a dead end.

    @ Master-Blade: I don't have anyone before Hugo. He's my first Magic contact (my Tanker's a mutant).
  9. Update:

Thanks for the feedback, folks. An update:

    Contacts appearing on Map:
Yeah, I'm thinking I had forgotten that only introduced contacts appear on the Map. They certainly do that now.

    Indigo:
Afterward, I realized that Indigo was a bad example cuz she's L40-44, as Smilin_Joe noted.

    Updating L35-39 contacts
I tried to update my remaining L35-39 contacts to see what happened. I had already gotten Gordon Stacy (Natural L35-39) and Ginger Yates (Science L35-39).

For the Tech contacts, my highest was Wilma Peterson (L20-24). I fininished 0% of her missions. When I visited her, I was pleasantly surprised; she introduced me to Anton Sampson (L35-39).

Same thing happened with my Mutation contact. I had Laurie Pennington (L25-29), with whom I skipped all of her missions. She introduced me to Colleen Nelson (L35-39), the contact appropriate for my lvl.

Now, I could swear that before, contacts would simply introduce you to the contact on the next "rung" (so Wilma should have introduced to a L25-29 Tech contact). So, I would have to travel around hitting those obsolete contacts until I got to the lvl I wanted. Here, I skipped the L25-29 and L30-34 rungs and went straight to the contact at my level. If that was a recent fix, I like it.

    So what happened to Cadao?
Alas, I was not able to activate him and will have to resort to the suggestions suggested.

@Aggelakis - I double checked all my Magic contacts (mainly by calling them except for Peter whom I had to visit personally). All were on my inactive list: Hugo Redding => Viginia Hoffman => Piper Irving => Miriam Bloechl => Peter Stamitz. I didn't run any of Peter's missions. He doesn't introduce me to a subsequent contact. Odd, since the other non-Magic contacts were upated.

I wanted to run Frontline since I like that arc (and wanted the badge), but it's not a biggie; mainly I wanted to break up runnning AE mishs. I'll probably just wait to run it through Ouro but I intend to run L35-39 arcs so perhaps I'll get lucky.

To all who replied: thanks again for your help!

I understand that. I'm familiar with the contact system. I've out leveled many contacts on my other toons. But I hadn't experienced being directed to MA versus "I have nothing for you. Talk to someone else." Also, I thought all contacts appeared on the map regardless of whether we've been introduced. *shrug*

Again, I've outleveled many contacts, so I am familiar with having to go back and work up the contact "ladder" per Origin. For example, say I was introduced to Thao Ku (Magic lvl 15-19 Skyway) when I was lvl 15. But I play other missions and outlevel him. So I'm lvl 22 now and want a Magic contact in the lvl 20-24 range. If I go back to Thao, I would expect him to say "I have nothing for you" but also introduce me to one of the next lvl of Magic contacts (e.g., Piper Irving, Dr. Cheng, etc.).

Here, to get to Cadao, I thought I should be able to activate him through Peter Stemitz, b/c Peter is the previous Magic contact (lvl 30-34 range). But Peter does not give me that opportunity. That's different than what I remember and I've gone through the "origin contact ladder" a lot in the past. I haven't been gone *that* long.

I'm thinking something has changed, very subtle maybe. Like, a Magic contact for lvl 30-34 will not automatically give you a Magic contact lvl 35-39 once you out level it. It has in the past IIRC.

In any case, thanks to all the previous posters. I'll just have to find a way to activate Cadao.

    4. Are you the right level?

    5. Did you go and talk to the AE guy like you were told to? (Yes, even if you had already done so at an earlier level.)
    1. No. I only have one.

    2. No, I've been through AE missions so I know when I am in that mode or not.

    3. Both Miriam Bloechl and Peter Stemitz are inactive contacts. See previous post re: what I did to "activate" Cadao.

    4. Lvl 38 Tanker, so should be within range of Cadao (IIRC lvl 35-39). Interesting also that he says to go to Architect Manager (versus the typical, "I have nothing for you").

    5. Yes, completed that a couple of weeks ago.

Again, this is the same for Indigo who doesn't show up on my map as well.

EDIT: @Thirty_Seven, the above should answer your question. I only have one mission in my log.

EDIT2: @Ironblade, I quoted exactly what Cadao "told" me (i.e., directing me to MA). I was expecting the typical, "can't talk to you yet," "talk with someone else," blah blah blah. But instead, it directed me to the MA. Unless this is bug, doesn't that seem that the Devs are planning something for Cadao (and Indigo)?

I thought of that too, that I was not able to interact with him b/c I wasn't introduced to him first. So, I went back through my inactive contacts list and found Miriam Bloechl (Magic lvls 25-29, Talos) and Peter Stamitz (Magic lvls 30-34, Founders). I contacted Peter who, if past experience serves me right, should definitely introduce me to Cadao. He didn't (I also called Miriam just in case).

IIRC a previous Magic contact should introduce me to Cadao (either Peter Stemitz or Allison King). Also, IIRC all contacts show up on the map regardless of whether you actually have been introduced to them.

So, I bugged it. The most probable reason for this issue is that I haven't been introduced to Cadao, but for some reason, that's not how I remember them behaving (e.g., they only appear on your map if you've been introduced).

Finally, Indigo doesn't show up on my map either. And when I clicked on her, she says "Don't waste my time. Speak to Architect Studio Manager." Like Cadao, she does not grant me a mission nor does she offer me an opportunity to grab one.

    Curious?
  13. It's something more than that, perhaps a bug. I'm logged in now and selected him as a contact. A few curious things:

    1. He doesn't show up on my Founder's map as a contact.

    2. When I select him, he is shown as the "Vanguard DPO" on my Nav bar.

    3. After clicking him, a dialog box appears that says, "I think you want Architect Studio Manager." It does not offer me a link for missions. It does not grant me a mission to go to the Architect Studio Manager.

    4. In any case, I had already been given the Architect Studio Manager as a contact (when I first logged in with this toon) and I had already finished that mission well before contacting Cadao.

I screened shoted this. Is there a way to paste it into a reply?

In any case, I was originally hoping it was an indication that the devs were revamping the contact system. Now, I'm thinking it's a bug.

EDIT: Ignore #2 (showing up as Vanguard DPO). I had clicked on that icon in the map previously. It does not refer to Cadao.

However, Cadao does not show up on my map as a contact *at all.* I can see him, I can click on him (and the dialog box appears), and his name appears above his head when I do so. But that's the extent I can interact with him.
  14. Been away for a couple of months. I wanted to run the Frontline story arc with Cadao Kestrel, but found that he just directed me to the Mission Architect. When did that change occur?

Are there other story arcs on hiatus? Will they come back or have they been reassigned?

So all this being said, I would love to hear what criteria others use to rate arcs.
Well, I just re-subbed for 3 months and am just getting into the MA. I'm trying a "bell curve" approach:

3 Good (Average) = This is my baseline. So long as the arc has some thought put into it, it should rate at least a 3. The arc should be comparable to most of the story arcs already in the game. Another personal gauge I use if whether I would want to play the arc again. For a 3, I wouldn't be against playing it again though I'm not eager to do so right away.

4 Excellent = Something has to grab me to rate the arc a level higher than average, like well-customized groups, clever dialogue or an interesting plot. In terms of replayability, I would want to play it again to rate a 4.

2 Poor = On the other hand, something has to earn a rating of 2, like major typos, shoddy production, or cliche design. As a benchmark, I'd rate the radio missions currently in the game a 2. In terms of replayability, I wouldn't want to play "2 star" mission again without some improvement.

5 Awesome = It's pretty hard to describe what would quality as a "5" except that multiple aspects of the arc would have to impress me (e.g., a well-developed story coupled with challenging groups and clever dialogue). I don't anticipate giving many 5s. I'll just know it when I see it. In terms of replayability, not only would I want to play the arc again, I would want to tell other people about it and run it with them.

1 Horrible = I probably wouldn't have the patience to finish a "1 star" mission, so I don't see myself rating many (or any) of them. I'm hoping to reserve these for only farm missions.
  16. I won't be able to make tonight's session. Good luck and see you next week.
  17. I'm up for anything as well. If all (most?) of us are available this Sunday, we should start a TF.

was thinking starting the TF on the 25 but that also double xp weekend so do we want to start one next week ?

Would we be planning on finishing it in one session?
  19. I'll be there next week as well. Thanks for accommodating the hectic holiday schedules!
  20. Wanted to say THANKS for the guide! I've been out for a while, but this guide allowed me to jump right back into I13.
  21. Well, the holidays have arrived and I'm finding it almost impossible to play at 7 EST (I'm on central time). So, while I could probably make it here and there, I decided to bow out of the team. Good luck. I hope to see you all around!
  22. Still visiting family for the holidays, so I won't be able to make tonight's session. Good luck and let me know how far you've levelled.

The best guide I found for building my Ice tank recently wasn't on the guides list, for example.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If so, the author of that guide may have failed to list it in the Tankers FAQ and Guide post. Ice_Knight IIRC is the one who formats the changes for the Tanker Guides, but Ex makes it official. I'm not sure how regularly they update it, but it is updated periodically, at least on the Tanker boards.

To the OP: having gone through the burden of writing a guide myself, they tend to take a good amount of time and effort, if it's any good. So I can see why there isn't one for every possible combination.

The part of static teaming is to go up together. For us to jump up to 15 by ourselves just to run a TF, kinda defeats the purpose of a static team.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I agree with this. I'd rather just run together if it can be helped. Plus, aren't we in the lvl range to run Faultline story arcs?

In any case, I'll stay where I am now.
  25. I'm at lvl 13 close to 14, so I'll have to play a bit off-group then.

Also, I won't be able to make it to the Oct. 19th session. Not a big deal unless we start Posi. Synapse shouldn't be a problem.
