Discussion: The City Scoop! August 31, 2007
Good job on this issue guys! I always enjoy reading the CS.
I'm a bit confused....
The featured SG stated they were founded in 2003. Is that correct? Because I'm pretty sure this game came out in 2004.
Otherwise, fantastic issue.

Some SGs were created in Beta or on the boards before the game was released. Heck, my SG has been around since 2001 (at least) in various other games...
It wouldn't surprise me if this was the case here.
I loved this issue. It's kewl!

Woot! Thanks for featuring my Nina piece That took me completely by surprise!
I'm sure I'm going to be flamed for this, but i have a question about the supergroup shown in this issue that was using a copyrighted name. If we can't name our characters after or similar to famous names (ala Echo-Location Using Flying Furry Mammal Man), then how can SGs use names like Birds of Prey when a comic book of the same name exists?

This is just a guess from me but, I was under the impression that it's not just name but concept that gets a character genericed if it's a common name. Like costume + name + bio, if it's all too similar to a known character, then it's genericed. Exceptions would be names of real people.
So, I don't know but my first thought would be if the SG was nothing like the comic book group, then it's ok.

Couple little bits this time:
1) do we know what server Steel Magnolia's from? I'm assuming that the server name got lost before this went to print. If i'd had to guess, i'd say liberty b/c the one question and answer mentioned an alt on lib. just curious.
2) Missed the table of contents this time. Just seemed a handy feature.
3) Anybody else get slightly lost when following the BtM conversations? Had a small problem tracking each article. (But no, can't really think of a better way to organize them)
4) Good Scorn horoscopes this week. A complete seperation from LA's, and humorous.

Steele is primarily from Liberty, but I believe she also plays on Pinnacle and a few other places.

Yes Steele Magnolia is a transplant from Pinnacle where she started from and enjoys Liberty where her new home resides, Like myself we call Liberty Home, and Pinnacle and Virtue our Summer homes so to speak. Thats why it stated "So many servers so little time"

My guild has been around since 1998, that's more than likely the case here as well. A larger number of guilds are going to a multi-game format which allows them to outlast any given MMO.

Lady_Athyna is correct.
Way back when at the time of the legal issues with Marvel, I had submitted a ticket about the name of our group and asked if it required a change.
The Official response I got back was that although the name was the same, the "idea" or concept behind it is totally different than the DC Comic of the same name, therefore there was no copyright problems.
A toon I had back then named "Wonderous Woman" (complete with Tiara, Wrist Bracelets and a blue and red costume) on the other hand... well, she got genericized and rightfully so.
Feel free to read all about the history of our SG and you'll see it's entirely different from the DC one.

I enjoyed the Ghost Widow interview by Kahlan D'Rane (nice job!) but one thing bothered me. If you made a list of all the common alcoholic beverages and ranked them in order of how easily they can be screwed up, a pomegranate martini would be well above the halfway point of ease-of-screwing-upness.
What Could Go Wrong With A Pomegranate Martini
1) the ice the martini was shaken with could be bad (made with hard water, etc)
2) martini could be too warm
3) martini could have too many little flecks of ice floating in it
4) cheap booze
5) overly sugary, chemical-laden "mix" is in drink rather than quality ingredients
6) cracked glass
7) plastic "glass"
8) poor garnish
9) bad proportions resulting in overly sour or sweet drink
10) stone brute bartender makes pomegranite martini, which is entirely different
And I am sure there are many more. If you are looking for a "(almost) nothing could go wrong with that" drink, try naming a specific brand and having it neat. The list of things that can go wrong with that is shorter than a fancy mixed cocktail.
Other than that, nice article.
