I will miss the comic!

The comic is what set COH apart from everyother MMO out there. It made sense...comic books and superheroes go hand in hand.

It would be great if the brought BlueKing back (the first COH comic makers).

Anyways...I will really miss the comic.

Huh? Has it been canceled? Did I miss an announcement somewhere?

That sucks. I hadn't heard anything about that. Where's the official notification? I can't find anything.

It's also on the front page of the CoH website.

Meet and greets seem weak compared to an actual comic, but I understand that money talks and the comic was costing more than making.

I am bummed to see this go away. It seemed such a natural way to express the game's background - the comic book.

I wonder, beyond finanical reasons, if the folks at Cryptic/NC Soft were kind of making it difficult to tell interesting stories. It seems like they didn't want to stray to from game canon with the chracters - there wasn't alot added to the background at times - perhaps to keep pace with what was going on with the online game's background. It also looks to me like they weren't thrilled with Blue King's take on the idea. All in all, I wondered if there was simply not enough flexibility.

Also, I can't help but wonder now whether NC's got problems with expanding the game to other media. The novels didn't seem to do too well - given that they canceled the third book in the series. The comics were changed, and it looks like they didn't fly. I'd be curious to know how the TCG is doing - will that be closed when the contract runs out?

I'd love to see COH get more chances to expand, if only to build on what the game has devloped as a background. But I do wonder what's next for the game franchise.

It never really made sense to me for them to use the signature characters. After all, everything they do is going to have an effect on the world, so they can't do too much in the comic. If they went with lesser known heroes (there's a whole city full of em) I think they could tell better stories without the expectation that the world would reflect the comic. Instead, the comic could reflect the world.

A slight digression to discuss the second book...

It contained elements that were sorta game canon... but then attributed them to non-canon.

Recluse's Tarantulas were vehicles, not cyborgs.

a 'psychic entity in a porcelain mask' was never attributed to the Carnival of Shadows, instead it was "a Venetian Relic".

Synapse's origin at the hands of Crey was gone into pretty deeply, but the person who did it was cashiered from Crey and started his OWN company (doing the same shenanigans as Crey does). Positron was also a Crey employee - note the past tense.

Granted a lot of this happens in the 70's and early 80's, but the way a lot of it came off was as if it had been plotted out using game canon, and then a whole lot of rewriting happened to retcon stuff AWAY from game canon.

So I think that may be the difficulty with the comics. Either they're running out of safe, "non-spoiler" stories to tell with the signature characters, or they just don't see the point in telling stories about them at all. Which is sad.

Personally... I'd think that every story arc in the game deserves its own comic... perhaps the 'souveneirs' (sp) from them could be used to 'unlock' downloadable comics as you receive them. At the very least, if they storyboard stuff out, having one of the guys who's drawn the Top Cow or Blue King stuff 'dress up' the storyboards and publishing THOSE as B&W comic souveneirs would be really cool.

Honestly I will not miss it, gave up on the book many issues ago. I can see why it was cancel, mainly for not being that economical.

Should have stayed with Blue King though.

I'll miss the comic, regardless of it's hit and miss stories. It needed to be treated as a comic, with a steady writer who understood the world it was set in (Hello Troy Hickman), however it was treated like a red headed step child by the guys with the money. There was no reason it couldn't have been a great stand alone book, but as with all things NCSoft, it would appear, their stamina and vision were lacking resulting in too garbled a mess of crappy art here, uninspired writing there. The only arc that was pure crap was the introduction of the Korean NPC's, both art and writing were substandard. It's no surprise it's not selling. It's no surprise it was cancelled.

I'm going to be incredibly cynical here and say that there is no way this is going to happen with the inevitable Marvel Comic of the MUO game. Which is sad as it's just going to be another cape and tights book instead of something a little special, like we had.

I enjoyed them as well.
And I am one of the guys in europe that never got it for free, so I actuallyhad to get my comicstore to order them home for me.

I have them all so far, back from #1 at Blue King and all up to the current issues. And offcourse I´ll get the last 2 as well.

For me they were a fun addition to the game.
At times the art was bad, at times the stories were, but overall it was a fun addition.
One that really fit the game conciderign its topic (Comic Superheroes)

So I´ll miss it as well.

But damn I´d love if Troy Hick man was allowed to take it up with some artists.
One can dream

I have complete confidence in this forums ability to draw weirdly proporitoned women with huge breasts - I think they can easily take up where the comic left off

It's not the proportion of the breast, it's what's inside that counts...
