Discussion: Comic Judge Date June 15

Please use this thread to discuss the following announcement:

The Comic Book Creator Contest was very popular and we underestimated the time necessary to properly judge and evaluate the hundreds of submissions received. You can get a feel for some of these submissions by browsing the over 300 entries that are displayed on the Hypercomics website.

In order to allow sufficient time for the judging process, we are moving the announcement of winners out to June 15th. A big thank you to all the contest participants and your patience while we proceed with the judging process!

Thanks Lighthouse, I was wondering how the judges could stay sane reading 2700 pages of comics in a month. I mean- just look what it's done to Statesman!

EDIT: Granted, he reads that much in a week...

Oh well. I was waiting the whole day for the announcement of the winners. But thanks, atleast now I can relax a bit. The last few hours looking at the site again and again for the winners was killing me.

I get to do it again on June 15!

Well, at least they're actually reading them...

Maybe the extra time will allow them to put together an honorable mention list - perhaps even with a sentence-long blurb next to each entry.

"'Tough Nookie', by Rabid Platypus - this comic puts an interesting twist on the old story of love between a marsupial and an alien robot ninja pirate."

That sort of thing.

Me too! LOL!!!

I wish someone would tell me whether my entry made it or not. For reasons unknown I was unable to post to Hypercomics. I finally bought the darn software and emailed in a pdf.

Assuming that the need for an extension might have something to do with an abnormal number of quality submissions, I think it would be a nice thing if some of the rednames weigh-in on their favorites that didn't make the cut after the winners are announced. The folks taking home their prize packages will have plenty of kudos when all is said and done...but the people who came close deserve a little bit of the spotlight too.

On a personal note, maybe I can get up over 400 views before the end comes. Click that link and my sig and tell me what you think, please.

Well, I'm at least glad to know that my book still has a shot. Guess we'll see where the chips fall in another 3 weeks.

An honorable mention list seems imperative. I'd love to see the top 20. Still feel rattled by the "did they receive my submission or not" question, though. It would be nice if next time they could have an auto-return to confirm if a submission was received. That would save a lot of us fanboys the anxious thoughts and wringing hands.

I noticed over on the Euro COH site they have a monthly contest called "creative genius" I think. Only Euro players can submit, but it might be cool to have something like that over here. Looks like short stories, comics, and original art are all up for consideration.

I received a "Submission to City of Heroes Received!" e-mail for my submission...may not look good for the home team, Dr. M. I guess there's still hope, and another few weeks to be hopeful in.

For anyone who missed it (i.e., most of the free world), here's the link to my comic.

Arc 55669 - Tales of the PPD: One Hell of a Deal (video trailer)
Arc 64511 - The Wrecking Ball
Arc 1745 - The Trouble With Trimbles

Likewise. I'm hoping, for your sake, that it just got lost in your junk mail folder or something like that.

Personally, I was expecting to have it come late, since the demands for any contest that actually requires judging something of any length usually requires a whole heck of a lot of dedicated time. I was really hoping the results would be posted today, but oh well.

Here's the link to my comic in the meantime: Wonderful/Knuckle.

I never received a confirmation e-mail. However, my submission WAS sent to cohsubmissions@plaync.com on the 23rd of April.

The comic I submitted is linked in my sig.

I'm hoping that the e-mail wonkiness extends only to randomly not sending the confirmation, instead of randomly not accepting or forgetting entries.

How are you able to rate the comics over on Hypercomics site? Anyone? I couldn't find any help in trying to throw some props to some deserving writers.

My entry since we are all show boating again Tales from The Debt Brigade

Oh, and here I thought that the date "Wednesday, May 25th" meant we had to wait until 2011.

This is a relief.

We can all do our own "honorable mention" right now among peers- please go look at each others' work, give it some praise, or even use the "blog" tool right there to call attention to something you saw as neat.

I've been trying to leave comments as I read them... wish hypercomics had a way for me to easily backtrack through my commented pages, since some people have responded& I misss the remarks

Most of the best entries got a shout out in the original Comic Book Creator Contest Forum. I've already expressed my opinions on some of the ones that excelled. The best one (in my opinion) isn't even hosted on the Hypercomics web site ... check out Liberty Comics for a primer in excellence (just edit the url to see all the jpg's from Liberty_Comics-001.jpg through Liberty_Comics-009.jpg)

Hmm... Oh well. Guess I get to wait all day on June 15th to find out who won!

I'd also like to see a 'judge's favs' type list of favorites. Honorable mentions from the big boss peoples.

And yes, much like everyone else is saying... please stop by and click the link in my sig, and tell me what you think of my comic!

Would be nice if they gave everybody that entered a free month of play. I doubt it would break them and it would make everybody feel thier effort was appreciated, especially those like me that have never done anything like this before and have no chance of actually winning.

Personally I'd prefer a free copy of the Comic Book Creator software. The only reason I haven't ordered it yet is because I'm hoping the judges all have a simultaneous cerebral hemorrhage (mild only) and declare me the winner before they come to their senses. :-)

I submitted my pdf via email as well but I never received a confirmation email. Did anyone else receive a confirmation email?

It is my understanding that only submissions submitted to Hypercomics will display there. The people who created jpg or pdf comics will only be displayed if they happen to win.

Or if they put them up somewhere and give us the link. I'm enjoying the ones I've read so far but haven't had a lot of time to make comments. Win or lose, I hope a lot of the folks keep making comics for us to enjoy. Comics like ChaseArcanum's Strength have a great visual style that transcend the limitations of a screenshot comic. There are a lot of great ones over there...just browse through and you may find a gem.

I also submitted my entry by PDF. I'm starting to get the feeling the people that submitted PDFs didn't get a receipt email. At least, that's what I'm hoping. I'd describe my feeling as HORRIFIED when I saw that some of you got receipt mails. I guess if I don't win I could always blame it on email problems.

I'm not versed in how to name the link...but here is my submission. I have no grand expectations of winning, especially after seeing all the tremendous submissions but I am interested in feedback. Thanks!

Can anyone tell me how to name links?
