  1. Can the Leadership pool power Vengeance be used on a fallen mastermind henchman?

However 35-40 is the last big jump in opponent difficulty and size of each level, so there can still be a noticeable slowdown if you keep doing things the way you always did them. Sometimes it takes a bit of re-thinking. If your main goal is to level quickly you should always be ready to adjust your plans and tactics to improve xp over time.

I recommend a couple of things for people who complain leveling slow is getting them down:

    - Alternate between a couple of characters at the same time so they always have some Patrol XP banked.

    - Make sure the character isn't level pacted without a good reason to be.

    - Make a point to bite the bullet and join the Weekly Strike Target whenever possible, even if you hate grouping.

    - If you are a die hard soloist, find ways to change up your routine. Find some contacts with good story arcs so you can collect those end of arc bonuses, even if you don't care about reading the missions.

    - Examine your character's overall Area Effect potential. When it's good, more lower level foes can often be better xp than bunches of higher level ones. Even if you're more of a single target monster, find a good mix so that you're not beating up the same boss for 3+ minutes, because killing 3 Lts in the same time span will be more xp and less hassle.
These are really good suggestions. Thanks, Lemur Lad
  3. Trying to level feels like I'm pushing against a very heavy weight, moving forward only a few inches at a time. I kinda wanted to "finish" the character I'm playing by getting her to level 50, but I'm losing interest because progress is so slow. It's the same moves with the same character over and over and over and over and over.

I thought leveling speed was increased at all levels? Shall I just call the character finished at level 37?
  4. There was an announcement saying that many new animation choices where coming. What is the release date on that feature please? I used to love my claws scrapper before they changed the animations and I want to change them back. I also want to use the Enviscerate move without doing a ridiculous double back flip.

Have they set a date for this? Thanks for any help!

I read your guide before I made my character! It's a great guide thanks so much for writing it!
  6. I need a new computer and I was thinking of buying a Mac Mini or Airbook when the new ones come out with the Lion operating system.

I just took a look through the posts here and it looks like there are a lot of problems running City of Heroes on Macintosh? Is that right?

Would a mac mini be powerful enough to run the game well?
  7. I didn't think I could get much more out of CoH, but I found power combo that can solo well outside of scrappers/brutes/stalkers.

A plant/fire dominator. Open with Seeds of Confusion and then throw fire as fast as I can. Use holds if necessary. She is surviving well at level 16. We'll see how it goes.

I like to team too but solo power is a must.

Yes, yes! This is a great idea I agree.
  9. You guys might be right. It's true that I have never played a free-to-play online game. I'm imagining a game where certain areas, such as The Rogue Isles, Praetoria, Cimmeria, Shadow Shard and such cost an extra $10 to $30 to access. And we've got those $10 costume/power packs where I got Ninja Run and such.

But it's entirely possible that this would not generate an acceptable return on investment for NCSoft and that they would have to start charging extra for every little thing in the game. It's not the way I'd like to see things done, but I'm not in charge of any online game companies, so I can't say for sure what needs to be done to make money.

This game has had many good improvements lately such as the inherent Fitness powers (should have been done ages ago) and the alternate animations and coloring of the powers (should have been built into the game from the start). Still, the game is not growing in certain ways that would make me want to play more. Most missions are static; the enemies just stand in clusters as you move from from one to the next. There are few cutscenes and no voiceovers. Playing a solo blaster after level 30 is still frustrating. I could go on but there is not much point.

If there is ever a City of Heroes 2 that modernizes and improves the game I will definitely check it out. Take care, heroes and villains!
  10. This is a good idea. Now being able to see my character and costume is a primary reason I don't play stalkers.
  11. I don't want to beat a dead horse but I'd like to make one more point by way of an example. I have a PS3 and the first game I bought for it was Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. I have bought several other games for it and they have all been traded in for new games, except Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. That game is so good, the controls so smooth, that I've played the entire campaign 3 times.

Mostly, though, I just jump on once in awhile and do a few quick Special Ops missions. There is no leveling and no subscription fee. That's what I wish I could do at this point with City of Heroes. Jump on and play a few missions without it being a lifestyle choice of dedicating hours and hours in order to make progress towards those powers I want. And of course, I wouldn't pay $15 a month to do a few missions once in a while. That's why the subscription has to go.

I actually have two friends who used to play CoH with me. But they are casual gamers and they refused to spend $15 a month and grind out the levels. I bet I could get them both to play the game with me once a month or so if there were no subscription and no leveling.

Thanks for all the replies by the way. I expected much worse but you have all been polite.

And if you level "even faster," what are you going to do? Hit 50, do the incarnate bit and then... exemp down and do all the stuff you skipped on the way up? Why not just *do it the first time?*
My brute wants to hurl rocks and footstomp NOW not several weeks from now. My brute wants to have a full attack chain, dish out full damage and have full defenses NOW. I really don't like operating at partial strength.

I want the leveling to 50 to be real quick, then the developers can make all future content for level 50s.

What if I want to try out an illusion controller some weekend? Its weeks of "work" through stuff I've done many times before until I get the higher illusion powers. The content is not "skipped" I've done it all before.
  13. I've played for three years on and off. I paid for Going Rogue and the one month that came with it. Then I quit. I payed for one month when Issue 19 came out (it's great haing Stamina and Swift early and for free). I'll quit again after the holidays. I just can't play his game for as many hours as I used to. Gaining levels is still a grind, even though it's much faster than it used to be.

Personally, I'd like the game to be more friendly to the casual gamer, which is what I'm turning into. No subsciption cost, only fees for expansions like Going Rogue and the costume packs and such. I'd also like to see leveling get much faster, so that I can play only a few hours a week and see good character leveling progress.

Is anyone else drasitically reducing their playtime and feeling like I do?
  14. Thanks for the advice people!
  15. I am interested in trying a mastermind again. I really dislike resummoning and reequipping henchmen, though. What powersets can I take to minimimze this? How's thugs/pain? Ninja/pain?

I have a thugs/FF but still I still have frequent henchmen deaths at level 40. I'm a lazy mastermind without too much strategy and micromanagement, too. I guess I just want to play the game like I'm watching a movie - without too much effort.

    Thanks for any suggestions!
  16. Reshielding party members and pets multiple times per mission is not very fun. Why not just increase the effective time of the bubbles from 4 minutes to 10 minutes? Likewise for sonic shields, etc.

An option to turn them off if you don't want them on for that long would be nice too, especially for those ugly ice shields.

    Thanks.
  17. I was thinking of making an electric/electric brute or scrapper for soloing and some teaming. I want to do Praetoria and then go villains. Are there major problems with these powersets that I should watch out for?

    Thanks for any help!
  18. Might I have any free server transfers or veteran badge free server transfers or anything like that? I'd like to transfer a character to another server but I don't want to pay $10 for it I think that's a waste of money and unreasonable (we don't have to get into it).

But are there any upcoming free transfer times or whatnot? Thanks for any help!

I think these are what you're looking for. Also, here's a link to the wiki where I pulled the info from. http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/List_of_Slash_Commands
    That works! Thanks Maniac_Raid!

Also...You do realize that standing at range throwing boulders at people is just about the worst possible way to play Stone. Hurl Boulder is most certainly the worst power in Stone melee.
The invulnerability weird aura thing is a circle fence thing that spins around the character on the ground whenever you have Unyielding or maybe Invulnerabity on. It's dark for brutes and brighter for tankers. I do not like it.

I know that hurling boulders is inefficient, but I like the idea of picking up a big rock and chucking it at whoever is shooting at me. I so wish we could pick up and throw cars in this game.
  21. I'm wondering if this combo is feasible or if it will be too endurance heavy. Would Invulnerability be better? Does Invulnerability still have the wierd aura thing?

I'd like to do a Praetorian and then go redside. Also I do not have hundreds of millions of influence to spend on special IO sets. Will this be a fun combo throughout the game?

    Thanks for any help!

Also I know that Willpower is good, but I don't want to be forced into pulling ranged attackers to corners to get the regeneration bonus. I want to hurl boulders at these people. Thanks!
  22. I have been away for awhile but came back to check out Going Rogue.

I believe I have used some sort of suppressgraphicsclose command combined with setting my distance to zero command to eliminate troublesome auras on some of my characters, but now I want them back. I can't remember how to use the commands.

Can someone tell me how to use these two commands to get my graphics back?

    Thanks for any help!
