Continued Dev Silence on Costume Drops?

i9's been out about a week, and a new patch is in testing.

The devs still haven't made any statements about whether or not they're still looking at the costume drop model.

While there are a few vocal posters here who've made vocal statements to the contrary, from what I've seen, most players are unhappy with the current drop mechanism.

The players are not getting what they want-- primarily the ability to create a new character with the issue 9 costume pieces in mind.

I'm certain one or two posters will make a point of making a derogatory comment about this, but I don't think most of us think this is unreasonable. I also think that many of it feel that this problem should be a HIGH dev priority.

Please lift the cone of silence, rednames!

They arent going to say anything.

Why, it makes people grind more = people play more = people pay more.

What makes you think this isnt working as intended.

While I'm on Mr. (?) MOO's side regarding costume bits, I agree with Nethergoat here. Maybe a month's good to ask (via PM, probably) the developers if they're thinking about redoing the costume drop implimentation. WAY too soon right now.

Perhaps I9 should have just had new costumes pieces you can select right off the bat. No work necessary. Never mind this 'inventing' stuff.

Odd, I've been reading the opposite. Most players are not unhappy with the current drop mechanism. There are a very vocal few, but that's about it.

I'm with Moo (and others) that think the costume drops are a bit excessive, in a bad way. I know the devs are datamining the hell out of inventions, but even the early numbers should show (and the prices some of you have received for them) that demand far exceeds supply.

And, gods help me, I actually agree with Shubbie here. The timesink conspiracy theorists are having a (not entirely unsubstantiated) field day with I9.

I'm on the fence as it were with costume drops specifically. I haven't gotten one, not during I9 beta, not after launch to live, not one. So I don't really feel like I have enough experience with the costume drops to say one way or the other. Now I'm sure, someone will say "But if you haven't gotten any then they must not be dropping fast enough" and that's a decent point. I can't argue with it. Not enough experience with the costume drops either way. I've heard of folks getting three in one mission and folks like me that have none.

Seriously, maybe just streakbreaker or something, something that kept the randomness but only for so long, like 20 or 50 drops, at least one -has- to be a costume bit. I dunno though...

if everyone has it then its not special anymore.

I don't think non-setting costume options should be special. (TF witches' hat vs. 'standard' witches hat, say.) I can buy the in-game story reason for capes, I can tolerate the vet-reward wings, but the "win the lotto or pay through the nose" situation with the wing irritates me. I'm not frothing or apoplectically upset about the current state, merely irritated.

Anyhow, it boils down to some people think it's all right to have to loot/craft/buy them and some don't, I'm in the latter camp, and I'll let it rest there while I go make some Enhancements.

I'd have to agree on this. Be careful when speaking for other people Moo. That said, give it time. They've already said that they're watching invented costume pieces to see where they'll go with it in the future.

It's CLEARLY a timesink.
I didn't think that was even open to question, let alone qualifying me for a tinfoil hat.

I just don't care, because it's a great amount of fun. =)

Thats your opinion.

Searching but not finding is NOT FUN for many.

If you're suddenly thinking of the already brilliant core game of CoH/V as a searching game and the fun part of it as the loot from the Inventions system, then you have missed the point of I9 greatly my Shubbie one.

I9 is a new layer of goodness adding to the depth of fun that is the City of games. Take it for what it's worth, but if you are going to prioritize loot before the fun mechanics of the rest of the game, then you might as well play a more loot-centric game.

I might add, that this system is completely ignorable. How amazing is that? They've made it so that you can play the game with, or without inventions! Only you decide how in-depth your experience is in the City of!

Hoo boy, that should've been said in the voice of Captain Quark or something.

The fun for many is making costumes.

Suddenly having costumes added but not accessible other than through some arbitrary and callous system of rare drops does ruin the fun for many.

Then searching and searching but not finding just makes it frustrating.

Im surprised alot of people dont see that not everyone likes it.

But again those that find costumes, like it in general and those that dont, dont like it.

Oh I'm very sure people see that not everyone likes it. Some have been very vocal and very against it even before I9 was on Test.

Chalk it up for being in the hard place of a developer not being able to please everyone, or continue to angstify at your leisure.

Moo, I have found that when the devs are silent on an issue they are looking at it or working on it internall, but they haven't got anything close enough to done to talk about publicly. I would advise patience.

And how would your game play differ if these things didn't exist? Was your game play fun before?

Frankly, I'm honestly not seeing the problem. It's not as if we have to farm a specific mob for these things. They exist. It's pretty obvious to me at least that the devs kept them rare quite simply to not make them worthless once the furor dies down over them. They're a one shot deal - once that character has one, it never needs to get another one. The fewer people out there that need them means more that are up for sale, and the lower the price will be for them. Jeebus, honestly, have some patience.
