Before he could hear his question answered Shadow Pyre suddenly felt a jolt of pain shoot through his head. Any doubts as to the nature of the recent attacks was instantly put to rest by the psychic barrage.

"Why do you hesitate? If you do not act fast your allies will be overwhelmed." the voice said.

"I know." he replied, a bit louder than intended.

On the ground behind him his shadow suddenly began to move, quickly stretching out to attach itself to the shadows of the others. As it connected those being effected would instantly feel themselves relieved of all affliction save for a minor throbbing. Fortunately, this was one of his more inconspicuous powers and would merely look like a trick of light to the untrained eye.

"Is everyone alright?" Pyre asked.

OOC: Soooooooo very tempted to hop in with an invasion-esque thing. But Fang has her own thing going on right now...

Would a sudden mercenary attack throw your plot thingie completely out of whack or can I hop in to have some fun? And I guess that question would be addressed to both Fang and Wolf, seeing as how the latter is the GM.

In Kanata’s mind, an image appeared of Hikaru throwing a knife at Jase from behind and his blood spilling on the stone floor around him. It was all a preemptive vision though, before Hikaru even threw the weapon or even implied he would throw it. Then he discovered he had locked eyes with Jase for a minute fraction of a second. Is he?.... he thought before gripping his naginata once more. Kanata looked over his left shoulder to see Hikaru was now moving into position to throw the kunai just like in the vision. Thanks to Shadow Pyre, he felt the weight of fatigue lift from him. The spirit of his ancestors surged through his body and the blood of his family burned in his veins. Kanata knew this feeling but this time it came more easily and quickly than he was normally capable of.

“Datostu no Jutsu! East wind!”

With speed, grace and skill far superior than he had previously displayed, Kanata quickly thrust one-handedly to his left with his Kantetsu. The large blade of his glaive managed to shield Jase from the kunai, plinking off without so much as a scratch or movement from transferred momentum to his weapon. A breeze from the force of the attack kicked up, causing Kanata’s hair to sway before returning to its normal style.

How did I see that attack before it happened? Kanata asked himself before the weight of his naginata seemingly returned, causing him to fall to his knees. He wasn’t even sure how he took notice of Jase before anything else when he woke up….or even why he woke up.

“Thanks,” Jase said over his shoulder while still rubbing his left wrist. He tried to pick up his ninjato but his wrist burned with pain if he tried to bend it. “Crap, how’d he hurt me without even hitting me?” he groaned and held both the swords with his right instead.

Kanata smiled slightly knowing Jase was okay. He sighed and drooped his head, hoping the battle was over because he’d rather nap at this moment. When his head sank down so did his view. “AAH!” Kanata shouted, jumping to his feet and began dusting off his clothes. “I ran right through that cloud of poison powder!”

Jase chuckled, walking through the dust himself to retrieve his sword sheaths. “I’m not stupid enough to surround myself with poison, but it worked just fine against stupid opponents to keep them away.”

Kanata let himself relax, knowing he wasn’t poisoned and smiled for a moment thinking ‘Hmmm, that’s pretty clever’. “Hey…” he complained, remembering he had just been fooled into thinking it was poisoned too. “Are you calling me stupid too?”

After putting away his weapons, Jase passed an odd glace to Kanata and a smirk which he though was a bit weird. “So…is he dead?” Jase asked aloud as he walked toward Hikaru’s motionless body, his hand on his shinobigatana.

((OOC: While we are waiting, I'm going to share some pictures.

Everyone in the Dojo.

The first person in the Picture is Yuri in her Paragon Battle Outfit! (Catchy, isn't it?) So, no... It isn't the current outfit that she SHOULD be wearing. The one that is bright, cheerful, cute, blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah...

The Second person is Hikaru. The only reason you see 'Falcon's Strike' is that the name was before I found the lovely Japanese Name converter. Also, I am still converting him from Pinnacle to Virtue.

So imagine him with a sword, a few pouches holding the Shuriken, Hira Shuriken, Bo-Shurkien, Kunai, and other ninja tools, a small knife hanging on the chain belt, and a large 1' 3" diameter shuriken hanging on the lower right corner of his back.

The next person you see if the dark lord that’s in the corner, playing with evil puppy minions.

And the last is the servant girl who 'intruded' on her master. Please note, I couldn't think of a better name for her at the time.

OOC: Spoke with Wolf online. She said it was alright for me to do my thing. I'll just start setting things up while Fang finishes her bit.

BIC: "Welcome to the Toy Dispensery, home for all your child's needs!!" read the web page's title in bright, cheery colors.

A navigation bar scrolled down the left side of the screen with helping expanding boxes for each choice popping up when scrolled over to inform the browser of exactly where everything lead. Aside from reading the news of the small toy making company on the main page and admiring the picture of its main, top-of-the-line factory in Brazil, one could also peruse through its latest selection of models-

Try out the new Mackie Chin Kung-foo Fighter! action figure! Now with five different realistic kung-foo moves!

-to a listing of charities that 10% of all online proceeds went too-

This month's charity earnings are going to the study to find a cure for cancer, based in New York City, USA!

-to a short biography about the founding owner of the Toy Dispensery.

Mr. Gelatto originally worked for a much larger toy company that has sinced gone bankrupt and dissolved. When the company dissolved, Mr. Gelotto decided that now was the time to create a toy company based on fair business practices and a real desire to let children have fun!

At the very bottom of the biography page was a link to take one back to the homepage of Toy Dispensery Inc. However, when clicked on, it appeared as though the link was broken, seeing as how any browser would come back with a DNS, "Cannot find server," error. But those who knew what to look for would know that clicking on the red Back text at the bottom of that page would lead one to a simple, single page website. It read something like this:

The Legion of Mismatched or Otherwise Unorthodox but Still Very Evil Villains homepage

LMOUSVEV: Long name, quality villainy

What followed after that were several blank fields labeled with such terms as Meeting Location (Optional), Down Payment, Amount Due Upon Completion, Target(s) name(s), and Operative Requested (Optional).

Below these empty fields were several examples already filled out in case the user didn't know exactly what to write. All in all it was a relatively simple, well-hidden method to recruit a band of mercenaries for a job of some sort. This would normally be unremarkable, after all, mercenaries were always being hired by someone for something, except for what several of the fields were filled out with.

Target(s) Name(s): The Dojo of Lurking Shadow

Operative Requested: Toy Dispenser

Down Payment: $100,000,000 USD

Amount Due Upon Completion: $900,000,000 USD

After all that, at the bottom of the page, was a green button labeled SEND. Clicking it would trigger an amusing little animation to signal that the request had gone through.

The stampede of chibi-fied heroes, ones that would typically be seen on the news, fleeing before a large crowd of evil looking villains lead by a single villain dressed in the same cheery colors as the Toy Dispensery Inc title page failed to get even a chuckle or smirk from the user.

People these days, not a single funny bone in their whole body.

((Bah, what's the use? They always say resistance is futile. Maybe this time I'll get someone's story across for once. ))

The room could best be described in a single word.

Dark.

The low, green-white illumination of energy lines set into the dull, smooth metallic walls wasn't nearly enough to properly light the space. Then again, even if it had been, chances are the tone of the metal, a mixture of deep blue and subtle silver-gray, would have swallowed everything back into a dim twilight at best. The low hum of powered systems reverberated in the walls, only underscoring the aura of permanent dusk.

Of course, some creatures preferred such conditions of lowlight ambience.

Footsteps sounded on the floor. The material absorbed much, but the pair of silhouettes advancing through the dim illumination still sounded audibly - one wore heavy boots; the other something much lighter.

"I'm not saying you shouldn't." the left outline continued the conversation, a pair of arms moving through the shadows in supporting gestures of thought, "I'm just suggesting you might want to be less public about it."

"Perhaps you are right." responded the right silhouette, the dark outline of either a large hat or a discus-like head nodding somewhat, "But you know they say a leopard can't change his spots. And I'm afraid I've been a..."

A sudden series of beeps interrupted the conversation. Both figures' attention went to the pager that had lit its LCD screen. The device hung clipped to the cloth belt of the right figure.

"Something up?" the left silhouette wanted to know, the shadowy outline of a long, snake-like tail bending about in the darkness, almost impatiently.

"It would seem so." replied the right figure, the bare fingers of otherwise cloth-wrapped hands removing the pager from its place, holding it in front of the two, "It seems my local associates have just received a contract."

"Oh? How's LMOUSVEV doing these days, anyway? It's been a long time since I've seen Toy last."

"Oh, very well." came the reply, but it was unfocused, almost angry. The right silhouette was still very much focused on the LCD screen of the pager.

"Something wrong?" the left questioned, a clawed finger entering the screen's cone of light, "They requested Toy, not you, so what's the matter?"

"Look at the target name."

"Dojo of the Lurking Shadow? Yeah, I've...oh no...you're not going to...?"

"Oh yes, I am going to! Just look at this here! I'm...I'm...!"

"Oh, for pity's sake, don't...actually, nevermind. We're here. Let it out."

The bright-orange flash of a fireball chased the blue-green illumination from every corner of the room for a moment, accompanied by a monstrous roar.

It lasted only a second or two. As it subsided, the shadows claimed the area once more.

"Feeling better?"

"A little. Thanks."

"Hey, no sweat. Ya can't hurt stuff here with that. I'm just glad it's not ice. So then...I take it you're...?"

"I am."

"And you'd like...?"

"I would."

"There's no way I'm gonna convince you to get off this, am I?"

"I doubt it."

"Alright, fine. Ship, configure drop point for local coordinates - Paragon City, Siren's Call..."

((forgive me for my neglect of this thread gang, been very busy lately, in and out of game....work's been nuts so i barely get to post from there lately....and the SM thread has been moving insanely fast but hit a glitch in the road today grrrr jumping back in with Toru now ))

Toru cracked her knuckles first, then her neck as she watched the battle in progress. She itched to join in on the fight, for it had been a very long time since she'd been in a true battle.

Her hand slid to Ryuu's shoulder and she gave it a slight squeeze. The gesture was a familiar one between them. To others, it would merely appear to be casual behavior. But he knew it meant she was asking if he had a plan, and if so, would he like to share it?

Toru's thoughts jumped to Yuri for a moment, clearly concerned for the girl's well-being. She hadn't wanted to leave her in the infirmary....but she'd had no choice. She had a feeling Ryuu was going to need her.

Darkness began to slowly rap itself around Hikaru. The boy, which some people might consider dead, did nothing to make this energy to suddenly appear as it did. The body had no pulse, no breathe, and his body was pale as soon as he hit the cold grass.

What was the reason that he was now being saved?

-----------------------------

The demoness continued her ritual. The circle began to gain more volume as the inside of the darkness began to swirl on itself, creating the beginning of a small half-circle on the floor in front of her. It was the beginning of the teleportation dome.

-----------------------------

Yuri lay silently on the bed in the infirmary. Her chest rose and fell with each breath, noting she was alright. As was everyone else in the Dojo… Well, everyone but Hikaru.

-----------------------------

Time began to run down on the clock as the darkness began to surround itself around Hikaru and his limp body. Maybe if the others acted fast enough, surely they could stop the continuation of magic before its full power came in to bloom.

A small breeze began to blow across the garden. The leaves began to lift off the ground and swirl around the darkness like a weak vortex. It was the beginning of a rip in time, space, and reality, after all…

(( Shadow Pyre is dampening the psychic attacks with his powers. It's a dark miasma thing . ))

Shadow Pyre couldn't help but smirk as he looked over at the prone form of the mysterious assailant, thankful that something had finally shut him up. Suddenly he felt dark energy gathering nearby, it only took him a second to locate its' source as darkness began to enshroud their enemy.

"What's going on now?" he wondered to himself as the energy began to expand.

"It is the beginnings of a teleportation ritual, an outside force is using dark magics to exert their influence." the voice replied, a bit of contempt in its' tone.

"Someone's trying to help him escape, whoever it is is probably responsible for the psychic barrage as well." Pyre announced to those around him.

He didn't know how the others felt, but he wasn't prepared to let him getaway so easily. However, he was also aware that should he move to stop him he would leave the group completely defenseless against the ongoing onslaught.

"I can't reach him without leaving you exposed, however I might be able to focus hard enough to allow one of you to retrieve him. There is also the chance that the magics being used could be disrupted by my own, but the potential effects of such a combination are indeterminable." he explained, wondering if one of them would volunteer and secretly curious about the alternative.

((While Jase doesn’t currently have any ‘Dark Armor’ powers like in the description of his abilities in my sig, the resistance he has to psionic attacks is due to his innate mutant power of telethapy. DA has some pretty high resists to psychic (the only armor set that can get straight resistance to psy in the game, if I’m not mistaken). So even if Pyre isn’t helping him, he probably doesn’t need it.))

“Welp…I’m done,” Jase laughed and walked toward the dojo locker rooms. “Why would you want to play with that guy? Just let him leave as randomly as he came,” he sighed and was soon gone.

“Ah, but…well…” Kanata tried to stop Jase but was too late. He turned to the others, a concerned look in his eyes. “I want to find out the source of this disturbance as much as the next person but I would not be selfish enough to send one to risk their life for this. We should all go or none.”

The site of the Lighthouse Siren's Call had been named for was always a-bustle with the forces of Arachnos these days. Had the pirate Randall known of what had become of his ultimate scheme, chances are he would have rolled over in his grave.

Not that Arachnos cared - they set their bases up wherever they darn well pleased, no matter the opposition. Some wondered if this was wise, but the large number of 'villains' seeking to prove themselves to Recluse and garner his organization’s favor certainly seemed to suggest so.

In a crowd that large, two more were hardly noticed.

"Well, ain't this a pleasure." the Arbiter chuckled with a smirk as he looked over the LCD screen of his high-tech clipboard, and then back to the man whose registry he had just found.

The guy was almost obscenely tall, certainly reaching past two point five meters, and the Arbiter had to look up quite a few degrees to directly see his face.

The large bamboo coolie obscuring half of said face, as in the manner of a Tsoo Sorcerer, of course didn't exactly help things. Still, the primarily dark crimson robes of the martial arts were a dead giveaway, as were the intricate wrappings of black cloth that covered the arms, legs, and feet of the tall man. The lacings of the robes seemed to have a golden hue, which meshed well with the man's tan skin.

"How so?" the Arbiter was questioned by said man, "I don't recall close ties with Arachnos."

"Yeah, but you beat old fish-face silly." the Arbiter chuckled again, "And that makes my job a lot easier, trust me. Mako's always been loose cannon, and I don't doubt there's an Arbiter in the corps who actually likes dealing with the guy. When the man you're trying to settle down has a motto of 'I just wanna kill people.', logic is hard to get across, ya know?"

"Tell me about it." came a huff from the figure beside the tall man, obviously a lackey or other sort of accomplice, entirely hidden under a heavy gray cloak and hood.

"And what's that supposed to mean?" the tall man crossed his arms, "I am most certainly not impervious to good logic."

The Arbiter chuckled once more. Things like this made his job worth it every time.

"Alright then." he nodded as his device finally spat out the requested data, "The Dojo of the Lurking Shadow's right there, can't miss it. It's kind of a neutral zone, so don't cause a ruckus, alright? And if ya do, you didn't get these directions from me, okay?"

"Oh, don't worry." smiled the tall man, "I'm sure we'll fit right in."

The Arbiter smirked as the duo turned to leave and the next person in line stepped forward. He threw one more glance at the 'villain name' spot in his registry.

I'm sure ya will...heh, Dragon of Decay. Sounds like you'll feel right at home.

"OMGgimmeinspsfast!" suddenly came a shout from the stalker in front of him, "Teh hero noobs are base campin agin, cant u c?"

The Arbiter rolled his eyes at the man. This was going to be a looooong day...
