Shadow Pyre didn't even flinch at the unidentified intruder's swordplay and his insults only aided in lightening his mood. He had often been told by onlookers that he was untrained in the art of swordsmanship, however those who were brave enough to test their claims never questioned his skill again. The misconception lay in his technique, a kenjutsu born of his own experimentation and forged by his experience, which focused less on fluidity and more on adaptability.

"This mortal certainly has a high opinion of himself, does he not?" the voice asked seemingly amused.

He had to actually make a conscious effort to prevent himself from laughing at its' words. For some reason he couldn't help but feel that this obnoxious braggart would soon meet his match, though whether it would be by his hand or one of the other's remained to be seen.

“So you know who you will be fighting, my name is Kanata of the Datotsuichi clan, masters of naginatajutsu. With the aid of my family’s ancestral glaive, I will not be an easy opponent. But if you do not mind, I need a moment to prepare myself mentally. Alright, I'm ready now.” the young man leaning on his naginata said, reaffirming his wish to fight while preparing himself for battle.

"It has been a while since I've seen someone actually use a weapon like that in a bout, if nothing else this should definitely be an interesting match." Pyre thought to himself, hoping the pretentious reprobate would accept the challenge if only to silence his inane prattle.

(( Just so you know, I'm not trying to make fun of your character Hikaru, Burning_Fang (okay maybe I am a little ) I'm just describing how Shadow Pyre feels about him. ))

((OOC: 'Braggert'... Love it! Don't worry, my Hikaru can handle insults. Just be glad he isn't a street ninja. That way, he would be so bad with a sword, and spamming 'Ur m0m' jokes on the broadcast channel would be his only real attack.

Though, I thought that Ryuu would be slitghly angrier. Besides, I misspelled Toru's name! Shouldn't he do something?

Recap: Ryuu is too calm!

“Who said I would pick?” He said, snapping back to the real world, and back to his original mocking tone. He looked over the crowd, glancing quickly on every person. His eyes stopped on Jase.

Hikaru pointed to Jase. “You. Pick a contestant. Pick who ever you see fit.” He turned to the garden without waiting for a response, his eyes set on the poor excuse for a sparring arena.

Hikaru brushed past Kanata; then kneeled in the center of the mats. He sat on his knees, which looked very uncomfortable and seemed to be meditating…Or maybe he was praying. Whatever it was, it is a very affective technique before battles, but the others simply don’t know it!

--------------------------

((OOC: Alrighty. As of now, Yuri is simply waiting for Toru’s reply.

Jase gets to choose whom ever he wants. But, what I would suggest, if that you would be a little creative with it.

Pull names out of a hat! Write numbers 1-6 next to their name and roll a dice! Do something, as long as it’s random. Unless, for RPing purposes, Jase really wants to pick someone, then I guess it’s ok.

Also, why is this not being stopped? Seriously! Shouldn’t there be a sensei or two (controlled by someone.) trying to stop Hikaru? This freaking Dojo is too sane!

((Don’t make me choose, because I’ll just choose what I want…))

Jase could feel the attention of Hikaru turning on him before it even happened. That’s why his glare grew no more or less. “If you’re so good, why don’t you grow some balls and fight everyone at once? Or at least two at a time….” At first, Jase thought he wanted Hikaru’s skills for himself, to steal them and use them but this ridiculous assassin couldn’t be worth it. “If I had a choice, you can sit on your sword and spin.”

Kanata gripped his naginata and rose to his feet. He kept his eyes closed and his back turned to the intruder. “You haven’t the gall to fight a challenger? Even after I have readied one of my best naginatajutsus?”

"Who said I would pick? You. Pick a contestant. Pick who ever you see fit." the unknown assailant said.

“If you’re so good, why don’t you grow some balls and fight everyone at once? Or at least two at a time…. If I had a choice, you can sit on your sword and spin.” the young boy who had thrown the stones replied.

“You haven’t the gall to fight a challenger? Even after I have readied one of my best naginatajutsus?” the young man who held the naginata countered.

"Indeed, you had no qualms attacking an unarmed girl, yet now that you're confronted by those prepared to face you you've suddenly come down with a case of indecisiveness. How convenient." Shadow Pyre said, the annoyance in his voice clearly evident.

What had appeared to be a legitimate threat was quickly becoming a non-issue in his eyes. Even his other half who had been thirsting for his blood moments earlier was having second thoughts.

"This human believes himself a warrior, but he behaves as though he were a petulant child." it whispered.

"If you are half the fighter you claim to be then prove it by accepting his challenge, otherwise show how much of a coward you really are and runaway." Pyre declared, sheathing his sword yet remaining on his guard.

((OOC: Wait. Are you talking to me? Or are you talking to Jase or Kanata? The last post just completely confused me.

Speaking of being confused, this little fight between Hikaru/Yuri went in an unusually different path then expected. Well, when looking into the future, I see what I want to see, and not what the RPers will probably do. For this, I would like to apologize.

Hikaru brushed off the various remarks, but reminded himself to never ask Jase to pick anyone ever again. His idiotic insults were FAR too inconvenient for the time limit place before Hikaru.

A brilliant idea popped into his mind. Jase had ten minutes to pick someone for him to fight. If nothing is done in those ten minutes, the brilliant idea would be brought in to more physical actions.

After which, ten more minutes will start, and a consequence. Ten minutes, consequence. Easy enough to remember…

OOC EDIT 6: This is the last edit, I promise! I just found out that Sora (And you know who I mean...) Is the female name for 'Sky'.

Annoyance became ever present in Jase’s face. Apparently this ‘shinobi’ had no purpose here but to exercise his ego. When he sensed the enemy’s plan, he didn’t bat an eye. He didn’t care for anyone here, or that’s what he thought. It didn’t matter if they lived or died as long as he became stronger.

After waiting for the 1st few minutes, Jase figured they guy was serious about waiting ten minutes….seriously, there had to be several dozen students here. It would take over six hours to kill each one of them one at a time…and if he wasn’t going to kill them and just torture them, which Jase would surely have to stifle any fits of laughter at the screams of agony, it would take even longer. “[censored] that, I don’t have time for this [censored]!” he said out loud.

Jase reached into the folds of his gi and withdrew a pair of shinobigatana (ninjaken or ninjato) in his right. With a flick of his thumb, one of the blades shot up. In the blink of an eye, he drew the remaining blade with his left and tossed the pair of saya at Hikaru. As he caught the airborne blade in his right, the saya spun midair, spreading a stream of grey dust at the opponent. Jase charged at the enemy, ready to strike and slash at him with both blades.

Hikaru disappeared from his position, reappearing directly behind Jase as he moved. He 'slowly' shoved his foot forward to meet Jase's back.

"Wow, you are slow..."

------------------

((OOC: By 'slowly', I meant that it is still faster then someone swinging a bat at someone else's head.

Predicting an opponent’s moves can be difficult and even impossible for some, but Hikaru’s first move was all but unpredictable. Jase didn’t even need his mutant ability to figure it out, granted that predicting isn’t going to keep you up with a high speed opponent….but Hikaru was being too cocky and wasn’t even using all of his speed. This gave Jase the opportunity to keep his momentum forward as his foot turned.

The assassin’s foot never met his back because he was leaning forward as his body turned to slash behind him at the extended foot. As his blades traveled backward, more of the grey dust spread around and at Hikaru which came from the edges of the blades planted there by his trick saya. The dust was heavy and seemed to hang in the air, very slowly descending to the ground. Now Jase was effectively surrounded by this haze of powder from his sides and front as well as behind from when he fist threw his powder filled sheaths. Only a few steps were available to maneuver inside his created barrier.

He didn’t listen to Hikaru’s words, Jase’s mindset was completely different now as if he was a completely different person. He held up one of his shinobigatana to guard him high and the other angled down and behind him to guard low.

Kanata didn’t sit around while the intruder made threats so moved closer to Shadow Pyre. He tried his best to wave to Ryuu to come over without drawing too much attention but wasn’t sure if he paid much attention to him. He would have called Toru or Yuri over but he suspected they were a little occupied by Yuri’s wounds but he did pass a concerned glance. “I did not catch your name from earlier,” he whispered to Pyre, “but my name is Kanata. I think it would be in our best interest to orchestrate some sort of plan to defeat this villain or at least move this battle away from some of the less experienced students.” Kanata kept his attention on the quick moving shinobi as he took in whatever information he could track from his fighting style.

((Trying to give everyone an opportunity to do something if a fight is going to take multiple posts.))

[ QUOTE ]
Yuri stopped walking, bit her lip and waited a few seconds before whispering to Toru, “Stay.” She brought herself up to standing position, almost as if she wasn’t hurt. “I can’t… I need to go back. I need to help…” Unfortunately, most of her ‘healing’ was an act.

Her hand bled, dampening the cloth around her arm, making the grey cloth look tie-dyed with a rose red. Most of her body was bruised or bruising. Standing up like she did made her seem crazy. “I have to go back…” She said, her voice fading when she finished. “Please…”

[/ QUOTE ]

Toru's eyes widened as she gaped at Yuri. "Are you mad girl? You may act all you like, but any fool can see you are injured and in need of care!" Her tone had become rougher than she'd intended, so she paused, closed her eyes, and forced her voice to take a more calm tone. "There is a Dojo full of skilled students your......accquantance....can entertain himself with. At least until we can get you patched up. What else could you do right now? Bleed to death on him?"

Toru chuckled slightly in an effort to lighten the moment. Shaking her head, she placed an arm around Yuri's waist and guided her into the infirmary.

((as for the Sensei: there are several: You will see Sensei Draeko or Sensei Schayde mentioned. These are actual characters in game and should not be controlled by others unless permission is given through PMs here. You can also introduce your own Sensei character if you choose but you must specify controll permissions if/when you do in order to avoid confusion.))

Ryuu walked over slowly to Kanata as his eyes fixed on the fight. His hand still over the handle of his katana as his fingers traveled the sacabbard of his wakizashi, hidden in his hakama. The games were over, this new opponent wanted more than just a good match.

"I did not catch your name from earlier, but my name is Kanata. I think it would be in our best interest to orchestrate some sort of plan to defeat this villain or at least move this battle away from some of the less experienced students." Kanata said as he approached.

Shadow Pyre saw Ryuu acknowledge the summons and make his way over to them. He waited for him before responding so that he could introduce himself to both at once.

"You may call me Shadow Pyre, as for the intruder so far the only thing he has demonstrated is that his tongue is quicker than his feet. I've had extensive experience battling opponents with superhuman speed ((my main character)) and I have several techniques at my disposal, however they would require an overt display of power on my part." he said, never taking his eyes off the battle unfolding before him.

As he continued to watch the boy attack the unknown foe with his ninjaken, he couldn't help but wonder what effects the powder he had used would have. During his time in the city he had seen similar powders used for various purposes from simple distractions to mystical incantations, sometimes on the receiving end himself.

"For now I would recommend simply observing the enemy's fighting style and looking for potential weaknesses. Although, I have a feeling that his own arrogance may soon be his downfall." Pyre whispered.

(( Shinobigatana or Ninjaken. Also called Ninjato which is a sword a ninja would carry.

[ QUOTE ]
According to the book "Ninjutsu History and Tradition" by Masaaki Hatsumi, Soke (Headmaster) of the Bujinkan Dojo system, these swords came in a variety of shapes and sizes. Often, however, they were much shorter than the traditional daito katana used by the samurai of feudal Japan.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's pretty much a shorter version of a samurai's daito and slightly longer than a samurai's wakizashi. Jase is using two of them though. They were useful for weapons and a ninja's various need for tools. Here's a video of a FFXI ninja using ninjaken but they call them katanas in that game while the samurai in the game use weapons called Great katanas(in relation to sword vs. Great sword)))

Ryuu nodded. "I am Ryuu," he said with a formal bow as he came to a halt. "What do you have in mind?" he asked as he kept his eyes on the battle his teeth grinding his teeth slowly under his emotionless expression.

His eyes bounced with the combatants as if locked on their every movement.

Hikaru kept his eyes on Jase while he remained in his barrier of dust. The particles didn’t seem to bother his eyes… That or he was too trained to react.

“I’m overconfident, not deaf.” He retorted to Pyre and the others, keeping his eyes on Jase.

Hikaru slowly placed his hand on the hilt of his sword, resting his hand on it for any sudden attacks. He restarted his hot headed little act on Jase.

“That technique you used is quite common, and hardly requires skill. I expected something… Flashier…” He bluffed about the low skill, and possibly about the rareness, but was being quite truthful about the ‘flashy’ part.

Hikaru had seen this technique, but currently didn’t remember any part of it. He didn’t remember what was going to happen next, or what affects it had; he simply knew that he had seen it.

Normally this wouldn’t happen. In fact, this never happened! Maybe he should have stopped to take a nap before walking into the Dojo. Going for days without sleep is always a bad thing, but why did he have to experience it now?

He shook his head, bringing himself back to the fight. Wait… Why am I fighting again? He thought to himself, looking back to Jase.

Hikaru slowly lifted his hand from the hilt of his sword, bringing it back up to his chest, along with his other hand. He moved his fingers in another awkward position, forming yet another Chinese character.

He kept his fingers in that position for awhile, focusing the chakra in his body. His eyes widened ad new energy was being pumped into his body. His body stiffened, his muscles wanting to contract, like a child with an overdose of sugar. He had at least one more day of energy before passing out completely.

Now he had another problem. With the new jolt of energy, he just completely forgot that he was forgetting something in the first place!

He left eye twitched, and his left hand fiddled with the cloth wrapped around the sword. If Jase attacked now, Hikaru would be all over hm.

But if the others were paying close attention, they would something was affecting Hikaru. And it wasn’t the powder, the energy, or anything even in the Dojo.

-------------------------

Yuri continued about three steps before stopping herself and Toru once more. After a couple of seconds had past, she continued.

Maybe Toru was right, and she was in no condition to go back. She rolled the battle with Hikaru once more in her head. What had happened stung her, like a child being slapped in the face for something stupid.

Yuri was faster then what she had displayed. Not responding to the attacks of the assailant quick enough was to her, insulting… She should have moved quicker, and she beat herself up about it.

Kanata nodded to Pyre and Ryuu then returned his eyes to the battle. “So far, all I have learned about this foe is he’s fast. I do not think it matters what power you would have to use to slow him down, we just cannot wait around and be killed one by one. Do whatever is needed,” Kanata groaned as the grip on his glaive tightened. “Just don’t let his confidence fool you. I don’t think he can withstand much more punishment.” He said this while turning his eye to his halberd and tapping the end of his weapon on the ground as if to say ‘Let’s kill this guy with a three-way attack and I’ll go 1st’ but he didn’t say it out loud. He then turned to the other two, his face welcoming any other tactics. “My Kantetsu is ready for anything.”

((I believe Kantetsu translates to “Crown of Steel” because this naginata is a symbol of his family’s Naginatajustu mastery and secret techniques. Kantetsu itself is a relic passed down from parent to offspring, and with each passing it grows heavier and more powerful to ensure the bloodline is stronger than the previous.))

[ QUOTE ]

“Not flashy, huh?” Jase scowled as his hand slipped into his gi. “Well if you were so skilled then you’d know it’s not a technique, just a means to make a barrier. Now I’ll just shoot you from here.” Still holding his ninjato, Jase held a few white golfball sized pellets. “These spider bombs outta slow you down.”

Suddendly, Jase felt a mental lapse in Hikaru’s stance. Apparently, he wasn’t completely prepared for a mental attack or was growing physically fatigued. Jase didn’t bother to delve into that subject and quickly attacked Hikaru mentally, simply trying to extend the period of mental non-alertness. Jase took quick and careful aim and threw the white balls at his opponent, the orbs passing through the thick dust barrier at his opponent’s feet, legs and right hand. On contact they would explode like a waterballoon and spread a sticky substance that was a special concoction of animal glue and spider thread. With about five of them, one could stop a rampaging elephant in its tracks, if not for at least a few minutes.

Of course, upon arriving at the dojo, most of his throwing weapons were confiscated but that didn’t stop him from simply making new ones (or at least the sticky bombs he was throwing now) with things available around him. One might wonder where a young boy like himself would learn to make such a simple, specialized and potent mixture from.

Ryuu gripped his weapons tightly as he lowered himself to the floor. He crossed his legs tightly infront of him as he cracked his neck. "I will not fight on unfair terms, death before dishonor," he whispered just loud enough for the group to hear him. "If need be, I will fight him man to man," his eyes locked onto the fight as his face remained still, the only movement in his lips.

So THAT’S what he was forgetting… Stupid barrier techniques. Hikaru stood still as his arms and legs twitched for the lust of movement. The pallets came quite quickly, but were still far too slow to make contact with him.

He quickly zipped to Jase’s left, away from the other three contestants. The pallets erupted upon impact, resulting in a large pool of a sticky glue like substance. “The last time I’ve seen that attack was with a white haired man and his endless supply of arrows.”

Just as he started speaking, Hikaru threw two Hira shuriken over the speed of sound at the barrier. He didn’t expect to see it hit Jase, it was more of a test to see how strong the barrier was.

-----------------------------------

If anyone was paying any attention at all, they would notice that all of them were becoming tired. Their energy was dropping at a slow rate, but would hasten over time. Everyone in the Dojo was being affected, and soon, almost everyone would be asleep.

Those who manage to resist these affect will still suffer with the loss of energy, and a sudden slowness. Their metabolic rate would be highly affected, and their brain wouldn’t react as fast as it should. Even Hikaru and the contestants were being affected, but no one knew exactly from where is came.

-----------------------------------

((OOC: Now, I’m not trying to get everyone asleep so I can kill them. Instead, it is the beginning of a future plot twist. Y’know, Something to jolt the Dojo a bit. But don’t worry, it isn’t something big. It’s nothing that will force everyone into war.

Hmm, so he doesn’t quite understand what’s going on…typical, Jase thought as he listened to Hikaru’s words, yet not as he said them but before that. Almost before Jase could react, a shuriken was sailing at him faster than he could possibly throw one. Good thing he didn’t need to dodge it because apparently it wasn’t aimed to strike him.

With anticipation that would be naturally impossible, Jase semi-countered the shuriken with a small cloth sack. On its path toward the dust cloud, Hikaru’s shuriken sliced the small pouch before passing through the dust like it would normally pass through air. The pouch showered the area Hikaru moved toward with the same grey dust that seemed to be surrounding Jase.

As the shower of dust spread closer to some random students that were watching the fight, they cautiously backed away. “Watch out! That stuff is poisonous!” said one of them which caused the rest to move away.

Jase simply smirked and drew another spider pellet from his gi and aimed it at Hikaru’s feet. “Soon you won’t have anywhere to run otherwise you’ll be stuck to the floor,” he said with a smirk.

[ QUOTE ]

Kanata lifted up his glaive and let it fall which cracked the earth and thoroughly shook up those near him. “What time are you from?” he asked sternly. “Because in this time, the threats that are most dangerous require teams of fierce heroes to handle. It is naive to attempt to face every threat alone not to mention the lives of hundreds could rest on the successful dispatch of a villain.”

Keeping his eye on Hikaru, Kanata rubbed his brow and groaned aloud. “…I’m not sure if this man is one of those threats but I’m not taking the chance.” Suddenly, Kanata felt the naginatajutsu he had prepared suddenly disappear. “Odd. I feel suddenly tired,” he said and then yawned silently.
