How Farm Rep Badge
After seeing your original thread mod locked, you still had to bring it into the Guides section? Some people consider farming for badges (any badges, not just PvP ones) to be an exploit. I merely consider it lame. I will never understand why you and people like you want to have a badge for an activity that you either despise or in which you have no interest in participating. Weak sauce.
Heh, good guide.

Great info on this miniguide! Here's some of my suggestions:
[ QUOTE ]
5) Now your ready to start! I like to start myself with my getting defeated. This adds the ppl to my list mit timer and I will kill/cycle them off as the timer releases them. The once I am off their timer than can kill me. Rinse and repeat.
6) If someone got +5 more rep than you, you'll get bonus rep for their defeat. This will allow new ppl to enter a group and make decent rep.
[/ QUOTE ]
When I farmed it, I distinctly remember it being a +20 difference for bonus rep, not +5. The bonus rep is +5, for a total of +6 rep per kill.
What I did, because I trusted the people I badged with, was I have a general set of people be designated as those that will be defeated in one session. It is required for the victim to declare who can defeat them by checking their defeat timers. At the end of a session, the people defeating them would probably be above +20 rep over them, so the defeated can get one or two shots in for bonus rep. This would speed up your farm by a good margin. Just repeat this, and keep the same killer/victim setup each time and you'll get your Disruptor and Longbow Warden in no time!
It isn't a bad idea to have the killers be all heroes or villains. If you're in Warburg and the farm breaks down due to interference, the killers could continue in another zone. New people to the farm should be killers until they catch up.
Also, setting up a global channel specifically for the farm is a good idea for cross hero/villain collaboration. And to chat, because it's boring and you're gonna want to chatter about something. Besides, it keeps those pesky chat bubbles that give away your position out of sight.
Speaking of which, /hide if you don't want to be bothered. People going into PvP zones usually do a /whoall, and are more likely to leave a slower zone.
Set a goal for your farms each night. It helps keep people interested and they -know- when they all can leave without feeling guilty about it and not be left behind.
And, for anti-grief purposes, don't have a regular schedule or advertse your farm outside your trusted group. There are a lot of people who would just mess around with you for giggles. Or those who don't agree with your methods and take it upon themselves to play judge and jury. Reason would probably not work with that type. Best thing to do is not escalate the problem by being angry with them; it'll only encourage their activities. Just pack up the farm and settle for another time. And don't pay them "protection money."
Wen_ho replied to the origianl thread with what is written below. It was good advice so I'd thought I'd post it here again.
From Wen_ho:
And now.. in the interests of what this thread was originally about..
A slightly more efficient way of farming rep. Works best with two accounts.
Bring several toons to a nice out of the way place in a pvp zone.
Work on only one toon at a time. Have that toon kill one of the other toons. Log out the dead toon and log in another. It takes about 5 target toons for the timer to run out on the first toon. Get the one attacker up to 400. Move on to the next toon that wants the badge who becomes the attacker and insert the 400 rep toon into the mix as a target toon. Now that toon gives the bonus all the way until the attacking toon gets to 395 rep. When that toon gets to 400 he becomes a target. etc etc. It becomes progressively faster for each toon as you go along.
Now this takes a certain amount of trust that the first people who make 400 won't run out on the later people so its probably best done amongst friends and sg mates.
Ah yes, here we go again...
How to exploit a poorly designed system put in place to prevent rep farming.
Tell me Bill why did they lock your other one?
Answer quick. I am PMing Lighthouse about this thread as we speak.
Do we really need you to post guides on how to make the top tier PvP reward in the game worthless? I think not.

So yeah PM away, since Bill isn't breaking any forum rules by posting this here. And if you actually read his post you'd notice the last point there:
12)Topic is about the Badge and how to earn it. Super Mod approved the move to here. A lot of good info got lost on the other thread lets not let that happen again, stay on subject.
And you'd notice the fact that it was edited by Ex Libris.
What Bill is posting is no different than those who post on how to farm healing/damage badges. If you have such a problem with the system why don't you come up with a new idea on how the system should work instead of flaming those who make it work for them.

I did read his post. I read it closely. Just because he put a disclaimer in there does not mean he isnt cheapening the only PvP reward of any permanence in the game. Nor does it mean he is not maneuvering around a system that was put in place to deter this exact bahavior.
I a hard core dyed in the wool PvPer, who has a special place in his heart for the Disruptor badge. Thats why I am posting here. I could care less about heal farms or damage farms. I care about PvP. I care about PvP rewards. I care about badge hunter collecting in PvP zones. And I care about the state/health of PvP in this game in general.

All he's doing is posting a way to get the badge for those who don't like PvP. As I said, if you have an idea to "Fix" the PvP rep system, then share it. Rather than whine, try doing something that will fix what you consider to be broken. Also consider that his thread was not locked because of what he posted, but rather the flame war that came after.
So in short, rather than flame here, go create your own thread on why PvP rewards are broken.

This is a great suggestion, and I can't emphasize it enough.
/hide combined with placing the farm in an out of the way location allowed me to farm both my hero and my villain from 0 to 400 without even being molested once.
That blue thing running around saying "Cookies are sometimes food" is Praetorian Cookie Monster!
Shoot on sight, please.
I didnt flame and I am not whining. I am stating my opinion, a perfectly valid one, and I have sent that opinion to our moderators.
To reiterate my opinion is:
This guide is designed to exploit a poorly designed system that was put in place to prevent rep farming. It cheapens the Sole permanent PvP reward in the game by doing so, that being the PvP rep badges.
So propose a fix.
Just a question then.
I'm a badge hunter and a part time PvPer. But I PvP on my empath. During the first week of CoV, I ran a PvP mission on said empath, and I got the 400 rep badge by accident, but never got the 100 rep badge.
Now, I'm trying to earn the 100 rep badge but not through farming yet. Does the fact I have the 400 rep badge through no error on my part, and the fact that I'm trying to earn at least the 100 rep badge by actually defeating people (On an empath, no less) have any place in your opinion on this matter?
Just curious, is all.

I think that for less damage based ATs teaming to increase the amount of rep you gain should be the route you choose. It's what anyone worth their PvP salt would do. You picked an AT that is more challenging to get to 400 rep. What fun is it removing all challenge from that by exploiting?
There is a point I meant to make above. There is a difference between farming rep and farming healing/damage. The developers of CoX went to the trouble of implementing a game mechanic to deter rep farming. That mechanic is the PvP rep timer.
In these other cases there was no concerted effort by the devs to fix the problem. There is no game mechanic you have to weasel your way around (read: exploiting the poor design of this feature). So in those cases it could hardly be called an exploit. Here however you are exploiting a loophole in a game mechanic that was put in place specifically to deter the very behavior you are engaging in. Thats the difference. Thats my problem with this thread, that and the fact that it cheapens the ONLY permanent reward once has access to from PvPing.
I do realize that until the rep timer is fixed that this behavior is going to occurr, and there is little that can be done about it short of GM intervention. I do not however see that as a reason to come here and advertise the methods used to exploit the design of the rep timer. And because of that I have asked that this thread be removed.
Rep is meaningless in the game besides the badges associated with them. If there was some value to rep like WoW's rep, then this thread would be broadcasting a serious exploit. Since rep is useless, then rep farming is only a minor problem to the GMs. The rep timer is fixed and changing it will cause some problems to PvPers that care about rep.
I actually wonder if some of the devs find amusement in the way players get around some of the game mechanics. They announce jokingly that they don't like this activity and make a "fix" to see the players squirm. If I was a dev, then thats what I would do to get some fun.
The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.
80eightyeight once again you jump on the thread and not offering no one insight on how to get the badge. You offer to call ppl exploiters, and more of your endless ranting. The last thread was closed because you derailed it. Ex Libris approved the move to this forum.
If you don't like it than don't respond. Many people just don't agree with your point of view on anything. So if you want to start a thread on the pro's and con's of badging go ahead. Please keep you rants to your own threads. Since you manage to lock my thread once and got your own thread deleted I suggest that you really think about your own actions.
Whatever value you place upon the game, is not the same as others. Your opinion matters only to you. So either start offering people some advice on how to get the badge by pvp, or leave. This is not a debate topic.

By responding to him you're just further derailing your own thread, and continuing to make it look like you only reposted in order to troll for an arguement.
Good guide. I recently farmed rep. So, I'll post the way I did it as long as you don't mind. First, there was someone else on my server that was farming rep at the time. He used "his girl's" account to farm it on one of his heroes. We went to a remote place in Warburg, not going to tell where as would-be-griefers who read this thread would now where to look, and he logged into about 5 to 6 heroes or villians per account(his and his girl's). It took about 4 to 5 hours, I was getting about 20 rep per minute and now I'm the proud owner of a new shiney(only about 110 more to go). Oh and each character was full of awakens so you could just log out right after I killed him and when he logged back in, he would rez as long as the rep timer was spent. If you use this method, do not rez till the rep timer is used up. Also, use /hide. We were never, ever bothered. Hope this helps.
80EightyEight,
Didn you not realise that this can help PvP ? Look at points 10 and 11:

10) You might even get into the whole pvp zone. I would if I could find a build/AT that was balance between a PvE and PvP build that suited my play style. Good luck and Good badging!

11)If you want to only PvP for Rep be sure to do it right. Look up build information, find pvpers willing to help you with your build, and learn you the ropes to PvPing. Check the Forums: Guides (pvp/builds), Powers, PvP Zones, and PvP general.
[/ QUOTE ]
The truth is that if people are doing this and following the OPs advice by learing about PvP (talking to other players, reading guides, forums etc), there will be a certain percent of people that would not have PvPed except for the badge that end up staying PvPers.
As someone who does like PvP and got my disruptor badge the hard way I say people who just want the badge should go for it. Some of them will start to PvP more and more because they have learned how to use their powers better, or built new toons ofr PvP to try something they heard about or saw, or just want revenge on the guy that killed em last night.
Bottom line is there will be more people PvPing that wouldn't have before.
I hate bringing things off topic, but I have to make a quick note... 80EightyEight, yes you are entitled to your opinion. But your just straight up rude. Would you like it if someone stalked you around the forums saying everything YOU say is stupid, exploited, and everything else you say? Didn't think so.
Back on topic, I love the idea of farming rep. It isn't meant to be, but for people who are just straight up annoyed with PvP, such as me, it is great so you can fill up your badge collection. It really isn't complicated, and it just makes life easier. Great tips Bill, I hope I can farm with you sometime =)
One may farm rep in any of the PvP zones, but Warburg is the easiest one to work in. Since in the other zone your limit to killing the otherside which will lower your death/kill rounds per cycle.
1) Get a group of ppl that want to do it! Bring awakes, this makes easier than zone to base or hospital and is faster with large groups.
2) Turn off all powers and don't form a team.
3) You must wait 10 mins between your death, your killing. So getting into a cycle is easier to maintain and less confusion as you get into the hang of it.
4) You must check your own personal info this will show your own defeat and time remaining before you can start your kill cycle it don't refresh itself you must manually refresh it. Located: Menu, personal info, pvp tab. To make a bind type: /bind i infoself
7) Remember this is a pvp zone!! Someone other than the group might kill ya. Some pvpers on Liberty if they seen/found us will come in for a quick one time kill and leave us to do our own thing. Don't get upset they are just doing their thing. Plus if never seen some of the pvp builds they can be impressive.
8) Seems very few want to kill PvE build repeatly, Should this happen find a new spot, but most likely you have to shut the farm down. You can set it up at another time.
9) 400 rep will not happen over night. You lose rep everyday, so you must maintain a farm on a regular basis. Do keep it up!!
10) You might even get into the whole pvp zone. I would if I could find a build/AT that was balance between a PvE and PvP build that suited my play style. Good luck and Good badging!
