Well I must admit the market was hard for me. I was a buy what I need, sell what I don't player for a long time and wasn't making much inf from it. Read the forums and thought over and over "this seems easy for them I should look into it more .. ... ... but must go kick bad guys in the nads. Will do it later".

Then I took a few mins to look at the trends of a couple IO's I was interested in. Bid low on a couple and got them and .. .. ... I should slot them but ... but .. but can sell them for a nice profit ... ... and... ohh and I can do the same on this IO ... and this one... and this ... ... and ... ... .... .....

All of a sudden maket is fun and profitabe I thank, I mean blame, everyone of you who has posted anything along the lines of "making inf from the market is easy" for making me enjoy playing the market and making money.
  2. I have to admit I'm more of a forum lurker than poster but I always said I'd post if I actually got the cash together instead of spending it.

I have to admit my view of inf in this game has changed since I started playing the market. Used to be that 50-100 million was a lot. Now if I spend to much and am under 500 million I'm feeling broke.
  3. I just figured I'd chime in with my 2 cents. My point of view is that yes there will be more purples after I16. At least for me .

Often I only have 30 mins or so to play and don't want to start/join a team just to leave after a short time. But at the same time when I play a high level character I want to wade through large groups of enemies and not the few I can get solo/dual boxing. So my only choice when this happened was the AE.

With the AE I could get maps spawned for 8 without a team and I could truly feel like a super hero/villian. Problem was that I actually like the immersion of progressing from one contact to another and getting the accomplishment badges they give out.

With I16 I'll be able to get the large spawns I want to feel super, the feeling of progress through contacts/stories, merits from arcs to roll randoms, purple drops, badges etc. For me this is a great change.
  4. OK I skimmed his paper and while am not too impressed there were a couple things that really jumped out at me.

While I admit I am not an expert on research it seems to me that there are a lot of statements that there is a suprising lack of actual data. I saw about 30-40 quotes of thigns said in game or in the forums but no numbers as to how players recated.

I admit I'm a numbers guy and I'm not saying I need excrusicating detail but I would think one would have to show at least some data to supoort a conclusion. What percentage of the players or characters told him off after being killed, how many said nothing and kept playing, how many said GF or somethign similar etc. Simply saying the majority reacted with vitrol or that players infrequently supported him seem are simply subjective conclusion (in my opinion) unless you have the data to support the claim.

The other thing is that in the paper he makes two claims that contradict each other within two paragraphs.

(following from page 9 of his paper)
While Twixt was able to effectively team with others just after the introduction of RV to the game, he gradually found himself ostracized from both teams and allies within his own faction. In fact, fairly often, players with multiple accounts (controlling both heroes and villains) would invite Twixt into hero teams that were then used to aid surreptitious villain activities against him. This kind of collusion and increasingly hostile environment forced Twixt to operate largely independently and, over time, habitually refuse team invitations.

These three sets of behaviors – rigidly competitive pvp tactics (e. g., droning), steadfastly uncooperative social play outside the game context (e. g., refusing to cooperate with zone farmers), and steadfastly uncooperative social play within the game context (e. g., playing solo and refusing team invitations) – marked Twixt’s play from the play of all others within RV
    ---------------------

So in the first paragraph he was able to team with people until his behavior led to others no longer wanting to have him on a team. Yet in the very next paragraph he claims that he refused team invitations. One or the other has to be false.

    Report all Farms

    [ QUOTE ]
And you know what, theres a difference between in game farms and AE farms. Mainly that the in game stuff you're still learning the various parts of the game. AE farms you're experiencing a tiny part of the game which is leaving new players with little to no knowledge of the game. They're creating an entire group of 50's with no idea how to play.Thats not me saying no idea how to play my way, jsut flat out not know how to play. You can't dispute that because you know it's true.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well this has to be one of the funniest things I have seen in the thread. Apparently if I run an in game farm over and over so that I lvl from 1 to 50 in I will learn how to play but not if it's in the AE.
  6. Ohhh big big thank yous for this. Some slots free and we can buy more ?? I think it's the perfect balance.

Of course my wife says you've foiled her plan !!! (I'd promised her I'd only buy 2 slots, but I'll get 4 free ones as well he he he).
  7. OK 1st off I thnk the devs deserve a big thank you for listening to what people have been saying. That being said while I am happier with this version I still think overall the changes are going to hurt the casual player more than the farmers.

I am sure there are already other ways being used to skip large parts if not most of a TF/SF (ghosting for example) and while it may take a couple mins more than softloading did the basic behavior that the devs were trying to stop (skipping most of the SF/TF) will still go on.

Hopefully this is only the 1st of several changes to come to address the various issues brought up with the TF/SF system in general.
  8. I have to agree with those who said this is the best post ever. I`ve got a 7 month old baby boy and can`t wait for him to be old enough to play CoX with his dad. I have to share one baby story (new dad how can I resist) that ties in with the thread.

I was getting in a bit of game time on a brute when my wife asked me to hold the baby for a bit while she runs to the bathroom. So I let my team know I`ll be afk for a couple mins. The little guy is on my lap happily hitting space (and usually a couple other keys as well) cause .. well he likes to smack things with his hand that make noise.

Anyway my wife comes back and we talk for a couple minutes when all of a sudden I hear all kinds of laughter over my headset. I finish talking to my wife, hand the baby back and ask what I had missed that was so funny. Team tells me to check the team chat from a minute ago so I scroll up and see that my 5 month old must have managed to reach the enter key a couple times. My baby`s 1st words in an online game were something along the lines of:

    Lmkmml,égvmlmm.xzM.:Énbx xcxkcjvk.df v

I`m so happy...... I`ve got a baby gamer.
  9. 80EightyEight,

Didn you not realise that this can help PvP ? Look at points 10 and 11:

    [ QUOTE ]
    10) You might even get into the whole pvp zone. I would if I could find a build/AT that was balance between a PvE and PvP build that suited my play style. Good luck and Good badging!

    Add on
11)If you want to only PvP for Rep be sure to do it right. Look up build information, find pvpers willing to help you with your build, and learn you the ropes to PvPing. Check the Forums: Guides (pvp/builds), Powers, PvP Zones, and PvP general.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The truth is that if people are doing this and following the OPs advice by learing about PvP (talking to other players, reading guides, forums etc), there will be a certain percent of people that would not have PvPed except for the badge that end up staying PvPers.

As someone who does like PvP and got my disruptor badge the hard way I say people who just want the badge should go for it. Some of them will start to PvP more and more because they have learned how to use their powers better, or built new toons ofr PvP to try something they heard about or saw, or just want revenge on the guy that killed em last night.

Bottom line is there will be more people PvPing that wouldn't have before.
