The WORST of 2006

Ok, I know there was a lot of great art in 2006. And I know we had a thread showing it all off - but this one is different.

I'm hoping that some of the brave artists on here are willing to take the step with me... and post some of their worst stuff.

Sure, sometimes we have ones that just really take off, but there are far too many pics that just sputter and die.

For me, these are it.

I drew this picture of Tigershark for a Villains Jam on another forum. The sketch looked fine and I thought it looked cool enough... but by the time I was done I had totally butched it. Not only does his face look like it went through a meat grinder... but the shading makes him look like he washed up on shore. I eventually decided to totally re-do it using my (newly aquired) line skills and some wetter highlights.

So, anyone else willing to step forward and show something their not so proud of?

(I would love to see something from Gill or DJ - I know you guys can't be as perfect as you seem )

*dies* because the best of my stuff isn't even half as good as your lousy one. and I use lousy in a way that means 'really good in spite of itself'.

The first one's not horrible... but the second is pretty freakin' sweet.

Um... I think the people on this forum are too used to be complimentary. lol

Honestly, I HATE that first one... it drives me bonkers just looking at it. I was going to delete it from my scraps, but I thought it might be good to learn from it.

The lesson learned, don't drag a Tigershark through the mud and expect him to turn out shiny.

I can see why you don't like the first one. It looks a bit bland, messy and unfinished. The second one looks really freakin' sweet, though - a very good piece of evidence that a li'l dynamic posing and a lot of nice coloring goes a very long way.

Of the pieces I've done this year, this one makes my eyes bleed the most. The character interaction, the poses, the hands, THE COLORING.. oh, Gods above, why did I upload it?!

Is it the jagged linework that irks ya on that one Dart?

we believe in positive reinforcement here in the art forums...heh.
critiques are rare, but I think its due to multiple factors....suffice to say that the critiques are out there but typically only when asked for.... (IMO)

in regards to your "worst" piece...kinda agree about the face, specifically the teeth/mouth... if you fixed the mouth/teeth along it would turn this one around. the pose itself I have no issues with...and actually kinda like it.~

Nah, it's pretty much everything but the concept. The jagged lines are something I'm getting better about, especially lately - I used to do my digital inks with the pencil tool since I usually worked pretty small, but I'm teaching myself to work bigger so that I can use the brush and still have actual BLACK lines instead of blurry gray ones.

That hand that's supposed to be gripping the Jawa's cloak.. gyagh! *splashes eyes with bleach*

Only problem I see with that first one is - he looks 'stiff' >.<

I have a TON of stuff I'm not proud of though... I'll see if I can work up the courage to post a few <x.x>

Oh hell... here...

The mistformsquirrel "Wall o' Shame 2006"

Didn't even finish it <X_X> To be fair, it was a first shot at a render. But still...

Had high hopes for this... But sadly, it just looked too flat and my redraws were even worse <x.x> It felt bad cause I was desperate to make a decent avatar for a mod <_ _> It felt like a crappy kids drawing when it was done. (No offense to children - I've been at this for 7+ years in a serious way, and since I was 5 all told - given that time? This doesn't make me proud)

Bleh... Same as above. Looks like a 10 year old drew it <x.x> Too stiff, anatomy is funky, his head looks weird... I could go on.

While I enjoyed the clothes... Stiff stiff stiff stiff MOTHERFARKINGSTIFF. >.< So peeved at myself after this one.

That's a whole lotta neck. Giraffe syndrome <-.->

Accidental copyright violation <-.-> Well, not necessarily a violation - but I worked my [censored] off to produce... a well known Gainax character <-.-> When it was supposed to be one of my own. It's pretty infuriating to spend a long time sketching, and only realize just HOW closely one of your chars resembles another after you finish.

There are other poor ones - but those are the worst of the worst. At least that I'm willing to show <x.x>

I don't have enough time to post all the crap I have drawn, but believe me, I have tons of worst of the worst pieces in my sketchbooks.

I win on the worst side.

Hehe I have been trying to get the stones to post this for you all to get a chuckle out of and Juggies thread has finally done it for me.

The idea here was that my speedster would be tearing through Boomtown with the image of a giant looming Vazhilok monster in the sky behind him, explosions going off etc, etc.
I assure you it took several hours for me to piece this wallpaper together. When I was finally done I moved it from Photoshop to my desktop and was immeadiatly struck by how the image had suddenly transformed! No longer was I a hero dashing through a burned out town while the fearful image of my enemies loomed in the sky behind me....

I was suddenly a cowardly hero running for my life from a... well.. a rather flatulant looking giant monster.

I'm so sorry...

There's some real crap sitting around in my sketchbooks...and there's a reason it's not been scanned in. I have some serious issues with creating some...really horrible poses out of my head, but luckily most of them die in the 'idea sketch' stage.

I think they're all great!

Ya know what? I'll second that. Your being much to hard on yourself. Some very nice work there.

2a and 2b. This is especially said, considering the frickin-sweet art from Star I got from this trade.

This one scares me too
