Blaster Changes?

Somebody in game said that between issues 8 and 9, that several changes were planned to a number of powers, particularly blaster powers. He read off a list of powers and seemed qute in-depth. But I can't find anything on ths in the forums. Has anybody heard anything about this? Is it likely, or even plausible, or was this guy a BS artist?

Fire is getting a higher damage cap than the rest of you suckers, and the snipe is being replaced with fulcrum shift. Also, blaze is becoming an AoE.

Devices Blasters either get improved, or they just plain delete our characters.

If they let me reroll as /fire, that's cool...

Wait, no targeting drone? You mean I'll have to slot ACCURACY? screw that. lemme keep my 'gadgets.'

personaly, i want them to make nrg/* more */nrg themed. flying spheres of disorienting, ST destroying, pink pom pom's of doooooom!!!

I like the concept of ice, but not the theme =\.

That would cool idea, kind of. Say hey, we're getting rid of devices. Any /devices blaster gets to choose a new secondary out of others.

Maybe in my utopia...

Are these still happening? The 'free respec' was supposed to be on the coattails of Castle's changes, but now they're just saying they're going to pass one out "soon". Does that mean these are coming "soon" or that they've been abandoned/discarded/delayed?

I don't know why you'd think these changes aren't still coming. Castle's changes haven't gone to test yet, let alone to Live.

Patch days are often Tuesday's. At the earliest, the patch with these blaster changes and the freespec might go to Test on Tuesday, and go live the Week after in my estimation.

The wording in Cricket's post says "under issue 8" rather than "with an update following issue 8". Lighthouse's post goes on to say "the free respec is because of these power changes" while Cricket's doesn't qualify it (plus the useage of "after all" makes me think 'oh, despite what Lighthouse said earlier'). The change in the wording between the two posts is really what makes me wonder.

Lighthouse just posted that that the Training Room is being brough down to apply the patch with these power changes. I'll copy over the patch notes when they appear.

Logged Ikube onto test. Unless this is just something I missed ages ago, it looks like they're trying to apply a pseudo assassin's strike functionality to Cloaking Device.

It doesn't work yet though.

Yea.

The short text had an added +DMG in its listing, and the long text had a line about increased damage on the first attack in combat.

As I said though, it didn't seem to work when I tried it. <shrug>

Thats a pretty nifty idea. Its not exactly what I would have wanted, but if the buff is substantial enough, its going to breathe new life into Devices. Now, they just need to make it work.

This... Stealth Strike... I don't know. As neat as it sounds, it doesn't help Devices at much (or at least having to wait 20 levels to get this ability), as it's just double damage on a single target. I also think the results with any Aim set might be too much or won't help AR as much if the critical is anything like Hide only having a random chance to go off on AoEs.

*smack head into keyboard* They did it, + dam on CD/TD? I'm shocked. But I still have reservations about it. It looks good on paper, but in practice toggles are easy to knock off a blaster. I'll wait and see before I pass any further judgment.

Don't know that it's a full crit or anything. It doesn't seem to be working currently, and the text just says increased damage. Could be crit, could be just as much as Build Up, or whatever really.

<shrug>

Edit: Also note, from the text it's just a +DMG on the first attack out of stealth and nothing outside of that.

CLOAKING DEVICE
Toggle: Self Stealth, +DEF(ALL), +DMG

The Cloaking Device allows you to use an LCD body coating to become partially invisible. While Cloaked, you can only be seen at a very close range. If you attack while Cloacked, you will be discovered. Even if discovered, you are hard to see but will retain some of your Defense bonus to all attacks. Your first attack in combat will recieve a damage bonus. Unlike some stealth powers, the Cloaking Device has no movement penalty. The cloakcing Device will not work with any other form of Concealment power such as Shadow Fall or Steamy Mist. Recharge: Fast

Hmmm. Depending on how much the +Damage from Cloak is, we may see a second coming of Fire/Dev as a FoTM. Aim+FireBreath or FireBall from CD could be a devastating opening again.

As an aside, this might possibly be why _Castle_ seemed a tad miffed about the accusations of CD being buffed ... seeing as he was in the process of getting it a buff.

Or something.

Other changes:

Blaze (and, I hear, the other 20' attacks) are now 40'.

The Flares animation has not changed. Flares damage at level 1 against a Contaminated went from 7.13/2.0 on Live to 7.13/3.01 on Test. Not sure what all this means for higher levels (although I'm thinking "still not worth taking Flares" is probably in there.)
