Official Thread: Police Band Missions

The one thing that needs fixing in these things is the auto-power rewards. (+movement, +HP, Dept protection etc)
AUTO POWERS SHOULD NEVER EVER HAVE ONGOING PARTICLE EFFECTS.
Someone needs to take that sentence, write it on a piece of paper, and staple it to the forehead of whoever configures these things.
I levelled a guy past 40 yesterday who had just got rid of the prior effects. Bang. Stupid pink swirly things 24/7 to signify debt protection.
Please. For the love of God. Make it stop.

I hate those green rings around your shins that come with some movement autopowers. Ruined several group photos.
heres something id like to see added to police band missions...
# how about s police band mission that takes u into the donut shop in faultline... say all the police in there are held hostage and its beinbg attacked by (insert villan here)
# how about some grocery stores getting held up? ( banks and pawn shops are not the only ones that get raided)
# how about (if u have an sg) your base is getting assulted randomly by some bad guys ( this would give more of a valid reason to use the base and to have a SG )
# how about the Tram is filled with bad guys and u have to stop it ( a timed) before it hits the station (ala speed theme with bombs on board!)
there is a LOT of more types of missions that can pop up... heck hire me and ill give you THOUSANDS of ideas that will keep content flowing!!!! besides i got to put my evil powers to some good use (did i say that out loud???)
"Lokk, you have a powersuit that is self-contained, can withstand any atmosphere, it can fly and shoot out energy beams. BUT you cant open the helmet to have coffee and doughnts??? Sad man.... just... sad" PatriotPrime asking me why I am angry all the time.

What he said. I'm a published author with hundreds of ideas for different scenarios. However my total lack of programming skills prevents me from doing the heavy lifting in such things.
If you need ideas just ask us players!

They're not a bad idea, but personally I don't like my base being raided by anyone. I run a 1-person SG, so it took a LOT of work to build it up and I don't want that work to be lost, especially if NPCs do the work. And considering I edit my base a LOT (and I bet others edit it a lot too), it will probably take a lot of coding to be able to generate the map suitable for NPC-raiding

I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with bank missions that seem to end to soon. The last two bank missions that I ran on Bricks just cut off and kicked me out alto I was still fighting the robbers, I was alone on one and with a team on the other. they had robbed the bank and were making their getaway but we were well short of the chopper and still fighting.
About the auto powers having special affects...ya it sucks.
I don't get why CoX is so aura happy anyway. I can see with a fire brute, or an ice tank, or a dark stalker.....but do things like debt protection and movement boost need auras? I don't even get why invulnerable or will power or regeneration need auras. Wolverine doesn't glow green, the juggernaut doeasn't have a shiny pink aura, I use willpower everyday and never once have glowed yellow.....just don't get why EVERYTHING has to have an aura.
Juggernaut's powers don't turn off sometimes when he zones. Wolverine's powers don't expire after 24 hours of hero'ing. Plus, having a comic hero's powers vanish on him unexpectedly raises comic sales while having player's powers expire on them unexpectedly just raises hell.

You may feel differently of course, but I hardly think it would qualify as anything worse than a mild annoyance. The world is not exactly coming to a standstill when somebody gets one of these auras.

Graphics are overrated too. I mean, text is perfectly acceptable for games, who needs pictures ... right?
More seriously, these auras are a visual reminder that a power is affecting you. They also are a visual reminder to other players that a power is affecting you, and if they recognise the power, that it could be available to them.
Plus all those effects make the game -look- good. After all, it is not the intricate combat mechanics that make City of Heroes stand out from the other multiplayer games.

They are visual reminders to the players that certain powers are active (ever got caught by the little glitch that activation animations make a character stand up even though they actually are resting, and then wonder why you could not move?). They also are there to make the game look 'cool' (or whatever the modern expression for that is).

Comic heroes generally have a tiny, static, cast and readers do not need to be reminded of their powers. In addition to that, comic heroes tend to have a tiny fraction of the variety of powers that players in City of Heroes have. Wolverine has two special powers, Juggernaut (I think) only one. In City of Heroes you can easily have thirty different powers. The sounds and effects help you, and more importantly, other players, to recognise what is affecting you.
You may of course agree or disagree with the necessity of this, but it is most likely the reason why every permanent and buff/debuff power gets its own special effect in the game.

Hey if you like the "special" little auras blocking you or anyone elese from seeing your actual character....so be it. Don't try to discredit my point. It is a simple and valid point. The best solution would be a slider to dim your auras to the level you enjoy. You can sort of do this my lowering the particle effect slide bar.....but that just controls what you see, and if you lower it you miss out on alot more than just auras.
BTW Nadira....I didn't say it was game breaking, I didn't say we should just have code instead of graphics. Your post was full of over exagerations and basicly pointless. Disagree and make your own point, there is no need to put spin on what I said.

I admit that after dark armour the effects of these temporary powers seem insignificant, but that was not the point I was trying to make. There is a reason that all our powers have these special effects. We may not always like their appearance, or feel they are too strong (and if we complain the developers even look at them, and have been known to adjust them as well), but there still are good reasons to give powers a graphical effect while active.

I was not discrediting your point as such, but offering a different opinion why these auras exists in the game.

I admit I was poking a bit fun at you, and I do appologise that you caught it when others were much much more dramatic about the issue than you were.

I know this post is old, but, I've had two recent consecutive safeguard mishes failed because of the same issue.
I enter the area fine (soloing,) go to the bank fine, fight off the initial robbers and get the 'Robbers are escaping, stop them, blah blah,' message.
That's where it gets screwy. I ran to the vault and there were no robbers. None. There was a floating bag of money in the vault doorway that twitched forlornly every so often, but no NPC villain attached to the loot. I met no one in the hallway either.
Needless to say, I ran around the bank quickly to see if they'd somehow got past me due to lag (which was bad that day,) but nothing. The mish failed soon after and I got kicked out of the map.
The second time, I was duo-ing with someone and we fought off the initial thieves with no problem, then ran for the vault. In the hallway, we met up with generic villain 'Pyra' and took her out. But her henchman, 'generic skull thief,' was nowhere around.
He wasn't in the vault, nor anywhere else in the bank. But right in the vault doorway, once again, there was that disembodied floating bag of twitching money.
Safeguard failed once more just seconds later.
This happened to me both times on the same charrie on the same day. Very disappointing to say the least since Safeguards aren't exactly my fav thing. :P
Were both of these instances due to lag, or is there an insidious bug lurking around the radio? 0_0
Same thing happened to me in a safeguard mission where the floating bag was. I was with my ill controller so i let the Phantom army out to play they killed the bad and the mission cleared.
If your gonna play follow the leader just make sure the leader is taking you where you want to go.
