The New Faultline
[ QUOTE ]
I was confused by the article. On the one hand, it was stated that the zone is open to anyone of all levels (and I believe I wandered into it on test). However another part of the article talked about travel powers and how you could go earlier than 14 previously, so you didnt have travel powers, so now the security clearance levels are 15-25.
So, is this zone open, or not? Or was the security clearance restriction simply a comment on the levels of foes, which would mean that most players adventuring there for real would have the minimum level needed for travel?
I found it a bit confusing.

It's open. You can walk in there at level 1 (a fact that Agoraphobic Man, my perma-level 1 badger will be taking advantage of). Previously, though, it was intended to be used by characters in the pre-travel power range. In fact, there was a mission that generally forced you to go there before you got a travel power, unless you were willing to let it sit in your tray for a level or two. Now the content is designed for more appropriate levels, and the blasted Vahz hunt is gone at last.

The zone is open (except for the hazard zone section of it), the spawn levels are geared towards the new zone level 'requirements' though - it would be like heading to Steel Canyon at level 5.

Miswording or misinterpretation. New Faultline is actually two (two, two!) zones in one -- the city zone, open to all levels but with a level range of 15-25, and the Hazard Zone beyond the Dam, with security clearance 15+ (although I'm not sure it actually blocks you like normal Hazard Zones do, due to how the entrances are done).

Speaking of Faultline hunts...
What if you have a CoT hunt for Faultline on Live, and you don't complete it before issue 8 launches?
I guess you'd have to use the mission drop feature, right?

Hopefully, that's been thought of.
I'd imagine that something like that would take place automatically, without forcing you to use your personal drop.

[ QUOTE ]
Experts believe that strange seismic activity on the moon created catastrophic tidal surges on Earth, causing the Overbrook Dam to burst. Forceful tides were also reported along the Paragon Harbor, but damage along the wharf was relatively minor.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sounds like this might be a targeted gravity effect, since it effected two areas, Faultline Dam *and* Paragon Harbor (new Underwater Zone?)
Maybe some faction on the moon, in a secretly hidden base (Rikti? Arachnos?) used a "Gravity Cannon" of sorts, targeting specific areas of the city to achieve some desired effect. Something in the bottom of the harbor? and something they desire at the dam?

I'm guessing Paragon Harbor is that bit to the north of Steel Canyon that's getting expanded into in I9.

The "Hazard" area does not block you like a real Hazard Zone. It just has Hazard Zone-type spawns.

Doesn't the Positron Task Force revolve around 3 factions trying to control the damn in Faultline? Will the zone change necessitate a change to the TF?

I certainly hope so, although nothing has been said from any official source about that issue yet.
Nicely done Arctic - I love the part about the Easter Eggs. And thanks to War Witch for the interview. Especially considering the tie in there.
Ooo I hadn't thought of that. It would be nice to have some new life breathed into the Posi TF. Maybe even have the CoT replaced by some lower level Arachnos, Freakshow, and Skyraiders?
Wait, it says the invasion happened 2 years ago but the history page says the invasion happened in 2002 which would be 4 years ago.
Is it still 2004 in game?

Correct. And also, the *other* way to get back to the "Hazard" part doesn't have a door or guard standing there. You can just walk right on through. And beyond that would be a higher level teammate could recall a lower level teammate to the back part.
With *real* Hazard Zones, there is no way to bypass the level restriction.

I would like to input that putting in a tram in the south of Skyway is nice. But what I would like to see is the old Red Line start making a comeback and have it running through Faultline itself. I'm not sure what zones the red line originally ran through but it would be cool just the same. For those that don't remember or are unaware, the Red line is from the history of COX and if i remember correctly it was destroyed during the Ritki War. The red line would be perfect for a route through Founders Falls, the end of IP where the Bricks gate is, Boomtown, and Ritki Crash Site (with future improvements like what is happening with Faultline with the last 2, these stops would get added as they happen).

Just so happens I did have a CoT hunt in Faultline on my copied over Stormie...
And the mission did not auto-complete. <_<
Mind you, that's from the initial I8 patch, not any of the other patches, so it might be different, but if you don't want to waste a mission drop (once per week, ya know), best to complete it on Live now.
Also, I noticed that the Security Chief for Faultline is still outside it in Skyway, and the Vahz are still there, which is the Chief's hunting target, so that particular mission might still be in existance in I8 (at least it won't be so nasty, since it's a city zone).

As I recall the last mission in that Task Force "save the Dam!" takes place in Perez Park of all places.
It would be nice, but doubtful it will be modified.

I posted a thread about that particular topic and Lemur Lad asserted that the task force is unchanged on Test. I don't know whether that knowledge was hearsay or personal experience.
I'd certainly like for the final mission to take place at the dam. It'd be a lot more satisfying that running to a random office building door in Perez Park and pretending "oh, yeah, this is an electrical substation, yep, yep!" Not to mention that a substation in Perez Park (which seems like a pretty strange place to put one) has little to nothing to do with the actual dam that the villains are supposedly attempting to sabotage.
Beuno article, Arctic.
Remember that it's possible to earn a Freedom Phalanx reservist spot. Arctic likely has one.
Interestingly enough, there's been some science news in the last few days that indicates that the moon really is geologically active!

Too bad the entire zone, the storylines, the contacts, and the easter eggs are pretty much totally useless for those of us who already outleveled the zone.

You have, what is it, eleven servers and at least eight slots per server, twelve if you've got villain, and you can't stir yourself to create a new character and spend the week, tops, that it takes to get to level 15?
I'm sorry, I don't feel a huge surge of sympathy for your plight, Caios. Pity, maybe.
I took a spin through there on test and I saw that there are mounties in there!

Good point. I assumed it meant the spawns were in the 15 to 25 range, similar to what they've done in other open zones, so heroes wouldn't be given contacts or missions there until they were in their mid-to-high teens.
Nice write up though. Good break from work.
