Malta Group Villain Backgrounder

While an expose on the Knives would be interesting, as of now, there really isn't much to this group. There are only three types of enemies (one of each rank), and they all have the same powers (with higher ranked ones having additional powers).

If more types of Knives are added to the game, as well as an Elite Boss or AV, plus some arcs that give a backstory, then that'd be different...

[/ QUOTE ]

Or, the article could be about the formation of the group, since we know nothing other than the "one hundred women" speil. Also, a little insight on the death cult aspect of the group would be enlightening.

By powers, you mean caltrops right? Lots and lots of caltrops. The defining feature of these fems are their tendancy to stack a bazillion caltrop patches on you. If they have any other power, I can't see it throught the haze of red 2's or 3's that fill up the screen

[/ QUOTE ]

They aren't that bad! (Don't want to imagine how many I'd have it I had team mates at the time!)

Totally love this Backgrounder. Great job!

KTU? Like CTU? Someone's a 24 fan.

They do; the LTs and Bosses use them.

Nope, we can't do 'em everytime. Otherwise you guys will find them more mundane, this keeps you guessing a little.

Also, did you *really* want me to tell you to go fight Malta?

I actually had some action shots with the Malta hoping that there would be a chance to add them.

Nice backstory. One question about the Titans. In light of the newer armor sets that came out with I7 for NPC's, will the Titans get a 'modernization' to their look in I8? Compared to the PPD and Crey scorpion armor, the Titan's look kind of Robby the Robot-ish.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I've always loved Malta's Titans >.> They remind me of Battletech, which I adore. Not to say I don't love the PPD armors as well; but the Titans are distinctive and I love em as they are. Just as I wouldn't change PPD for the world either.

Errr...Yes, actually. I did. *grins innocently* What? Why are you all looking at me like that? I like fighting Malta! They're a challenge!

Ah well. I'll just have to find some other thematically appropriate group...Hmmm...Has Crey been done yet? *looks hopeful*

What, no screenshot contest for the Malta? Boo-hiss! Trying to come up with some good combat shots of them was starting to get fun.

[/ QUOTE ]

Aww, man. I already had it all planned out to have two to three groups of malta standing over my defeated tank. =)

Cause, ya know, I wouldn't want to give the impression that I could actually defeat those guys. *mischevious grin*

It's the Gilgamesh treatment. Take it as a sign of acceptance.

Very nice backgrounder about one of my favorite love-to-hate groups (the Ruu may trump them).

I've always thought the Knives of Artemis were a branch of Malta, perhaps one that was willing to take on non-Malta jobs -- for the right price!

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope. Seperate group, all-female, centered around Greek goddess of the hunt, Artemis. They're "subcontracted" by the Malta, sometimes. And it's the lack of information on them that makes me wanna' see them next.

Ah... Knives of Artemis. The reason why I'm SO very glad I have a flying Energy Melee Brute.

Sweet Sweet revenge, here I come!

edit: Although Energy Transfer + Sapper = incredible satisfaction too.

To be hinest, I love fighting Malta. IMO, they are one of the most challenging enemy groups in the game while not being overused, like a certain magic-using villain group I am thinking of.

As for people who hate sappers, here's what you do: find a bubbler. Deflection field protects from endurance drain, simple as that. And yes, the empathy kind of defender is not the only kind

I really want to hear more as well. Much interest is generated by this quote from the end of the fileCrimson speaking to Indigo) "It’s obvious that their hardcore assassin wing, your former ninja-sisters, the Knives of Artemis, are certainly getting more active."

Secrets within secrets. Black helicopters and balaclavas. Shadowy agencies with limitless slush funds, and black-hearted agents with licenses to kill. Hushed conversations on internet chat-rooms that mysteriously vanish. Men in black with blank identities, and deadly women with a dozen passports. A high-tech paramilitary force divided into clandestine cells and dispersed around the globe – this is the Malta Group.

[/ QUOTE ]

Very nice work.

I still hate Sappers though.

They also have a sleep dart that lasts about 0.000001 second designed to detoggle you. You know... to make sure you aren't using hover to avoid the caltrops...

WTH?!?!?!? NEED... MORE.... INDIGO.... INFO!!!!

She is a former Knife of Artemis, though she was never inducted into the inner circles and thus doesn't know about the death cult at the group's core until you inform her of it. Her contact info says she's a master of stealth and intrigue; her hero info in CoV says she can read minds and see into the future. Her powersets in CoV appear to be Broadsword/SR; her psychic powers are probably gamed as SR and perhaps Leadership powers. I didn't see her using any overt Psychic Blast or Mind Control powers or such. Crimson trusts her as if she were his own daughter...but as we see in the Melvin Langley arc, not quite completely.

Her contact info says she was the first to discover Arachnos but that can't be right since Arachnos was known back in the 30s. It is probably an artifact from the earliest version of the group when it was still called SPIDER (and her info used to say "SPIDER").

That's about it.

Yeah, she uses stealth, caltrops, and the knives of artemis sword. She also has a funky little costume.
