Are You Villain Enough?

Not since Ben Franklin's "First Kiteflier to Sizzle Wins" contest has a worse competition been seen.

However, if you have a villain over 45 on test you might want to stay up late watching the boards Friday night.

o.o wow, that almost looks like a post you'd find in the litterbox thread...

hehe, it's funny how bitter "people who don't care about the contest" are acting :P

Well, I could try, but I suck. So... yeah... Ima cheer the contestants on.

Of course it makes sense. They want to know how various bits of it work under stress, and adding PPPs will contaminate the test.

So, very little time to level up to 45.

And even that time left is gobbled up by the special event.

And even that little time left over is gobbled up by Test being down.

And so, there's going to be a special event on the night that X-Men 3 comes out? For fans of the super genre?

Are even the devs running the event going to be there?

Little time.. Yes.
Recluse's Victory going to prevent levelling? Yes.

Can it be helped? No.
Why can't it be? I can't tell you or Positron will put me in the Zig. *looks nervously over shoulder*

Why level 45 + villains only for such a killer reward? Simple.. the race is a challenge that requires 45+ villains to do it.. and the Cryptic folks want people trying it before it goes live... they say you can't do it.. I say you can.

For those who say its not worth loosing a couple days of their game time to get an ENTIRE YEAR of free game play if they succeed, so be it. Its your choice, I would think there are quite a few of you who would feel it is worth it.

Its not just a free year for you and your team if you win.. there's some serious bragging rights involved and an "In your face" to the devs.. who doesn't want that?

Um, I seriously doubt the Cryptic team thinks we "can't" do the Recluse SF, although the absurd boost to AVs makes me a little concerned. I think they've learned not to underestimate the player base that much. The question is, do we care enough to do it? That question has already been answered by the small number of 45+ characters on test, compared to the enormous number of players who are capable of leveling from 40 to 45 in 2 weeks. Maybe the prize will increase interest, but I doubt the trash-talking will.

I'm not particularly interested in giving an "in your face" to anybody, but thanks for making my attempts to organize a team for the SF a little easier.

How long did it take for someone to bring down the Hamidon ?
More likely that Cryptic thinks no-one can finish it, in the time allotted.

But this way they get people to attempt it, and can confirm that there are no bugs along the way.

The most interesting point of all this to me, is that it really sounds like I7 will be pushed live next week.

Every time I see those symbols, all I can think is... "that'll never complile..."

At least I got out of the habit of using semi-colons to end every sentence...

Isn't having a level 45+ villain indicative of you testing I7 content? This contest would seem like a reward for those players that spent lots of time testing I7. None of the goodies earned will transfer over to the live servers. So, this is a nice move by Cryptic/NCsoft to encourage people to test. That's how I see it anyway.

Yep that's the way it sounds to me too . . .

With the UN-BEATABLE AV's (unless you are a full team with multiple rad's on it) and the "PLEASE KILL MY FRAMERATES" Hammidon-Level-Raid-Required Giant Monsters . . .

Honestly, those have got to be the stupidest changes I've seen since the I-3 Unbeatable Boss patch.

Why? Because powergaming is similar to powerlevelling? Playing non-stop is an exploit somehow?

Dude, a powergamer can get more levels and more fun than a PL'er... I admit, I'm no powergamer, but that doesn't mean I'm going to accuse people of something -they haven't even done yet-.

Four days to go from 40-45? Call it power gaming if you will, but I just think it's absurd to expect people to invest that much effort in such a short time into playing on a test server, which is actually supposed to help them debug their product. Four days to blast through 5 levels of the 40+ game, and the effort won't persist on the production server..

Call it what you will, but I call that absurd.

That's only for those who havn't been playing on test to actually TEST the content of the game which is what the Dev's need to release a solid build.

As has been said, this is more to reward those who are thoroughly testing the level 40+ content in CoV and encourage others to do so as well.

Those who want the free year are going to have to work their buts off if they havn't. Hence why I let everyone know as soon as I found out this contest was going to happen, to get as many people that want to the chance to get that high.

Not every contest, not every event, is meant for everyone. This one happens to be for those who have been playing right along on test with high level villains and those who are willing to powergame or power level their way to 45.

After all, how better for the dev's to find the power levelling methods than to encourage it and collect the data in an event like this?

I can see some teen spending the next 48 hours running that SF and a few really big teams. Seriously. I can also see some teen finding and using every exploit that exists. There's also some folks who call the test server home, they don't play on any other server.

I can see a lot of different scenarios. I choose not to lump everyone together under one heading.

That's fair enough. And thank you Jester for further clarifying the target audience of this contest. At least we are being honest about who stands to benefit from it. But don't you think it would have made more sense to issue a level bump to players if the Devs seriously wanted us to test a 45+ Strike Force and Ancilliary powers you get at 41, 44, 47, and 49? Counting on your customers to grind for hours just to reach a point where they can test the new content is a pretty big gamble.

Anyways, no , I'm not villain enough, good luck to the few dozen that are.

Have to agree here. I don't think they expect anyone to be able to actually beat it simply because of the reward involved. I don't expect it to be the cakewalk a lot of people are thinking it'll be - at least I hope it's not, I'm looking forward to actually having something to figure out for a change.

Hmm... in a way, this makes sense. The people that would be able to do this are (for the most part) people with no jobs, and most likely teenagers. These are the people who could really use a free year, not the people with a job and steady income.

Of course, I'm not high enough level, so it doesn't effect me... but I can see at least SOME logic behind it.

To all those who already have 45s from hours of playtesting, providing us with invaluable data - thank you, and good luck!
