Official Thread for Grandville: New Villain Zone

I have been playing CoH and CoV since beta days and must say Grandville is both the coolest and most confusing place I have ever been in to get around.

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe this is the opportunity for Devs to create a new & different style of Mapping system, maybe something in line of an X- axis style map. After running around in the tunnels I decided I needed to turn around so not to get lost, I had no Idea where I had been or where I was going.

I feel bad for everyone because, yes I do have lag but I have not crashed once zoning, or entering any mission door even on 5/3 when it was said that everyone was crashing entering missions.

The zone in itÂ’s self is very cool but I seem to having a hard time identifying elevators that I can take to go up or down.

Gradvile makes up for the crappyness of Mercy Island and Port Oaks. (Well they look OK but SUCK when you have to SPRINT threw them)

Anyway I havn't actully seen the TV screens with Lord Recluse on them. This is probly because I have my graphics turned down to the verry lowest settings possible. Makes the game look like complete utter crap but at least it allows me to move freely without looking like a slide show.

I did hear the voice however because my sound FXs were at 25% my comment on Broadcast was this...

"That voice scares me..."

"And I like it! >"

That was a few sec. before I realized the voice was Lord Recluse talking and when I found that out it made it even better.

Ok, I'm getting really tired of saying this, but if you plan on using the word "lag" in a post, know what it means. I have a helpful guide in my signature to let people know.

LAG IS NOT LOW FRAMERATE! LAG IS PACKET LOSS DUE TO POOR INTERNET CONNECTION PERFORMANCE! ARGHHHGGGHGHGHG!

Phew, glad I got that out of my system.

[/ QUOTE ]

Psst. Do you have any idea how geeky it makes you appear when you get upset about something like that?

[/ QUOTE ] Not just geeky but allso makes you sound like a know it all snob.

Most people I don't think have a clue what the hell "packet loss due to poor internet conection performance" even means. Hell I don't even know what my frame rate is. All I know is most people when their screen freezes in a game (any game) they call it lag.

I'll just go with the majority here on what lag is and not by the true definition because I have no freaking clue what that means. You can try to exsplain it but you'll just bore me to death. Seriously I took a computer class for 2 years in high school and failed both times mostly because looking threw the text books was a pain in the [censored]. I just let my dad or cousin fix things as needed and pretend to know what the hell they're talking about.

And in case anyone wandering, there are people who know far less about computers than I do. I at least know how to reboot when needed and how to use the internet.

My mom on the other hand, if the computer freezes up and needs to be restarted (and this rarely ever appens) she'd rather leave it on and "wait for it to fix itself" than to "force it" and that means "Wait 8 hours till my dad gets home so he can actully fix it while she's asleep"

My cousin's girl friend seems to find using the internet the hardest thing in the world. She types web addressess into search boxes insted of the web address box.

And I don't how this happened but my uncle accedently deleted his entire hard drive... THREE TIMES!!!

I thought I had a point to this post but I lost it somewhere.

GRANDVILE ROCKS!

Eh, give him a break, he was just venting... pet peeve for him I suppose, either way we know whatcha mean

Besides (IMO) he's wrong anyway... lag is a general term to describe the slowness between what you see, and what you get.
So, in Venn terms, bigcircle: lag. little circle: network limitations. little circle: system limitations. little circle: PEBCAK etc

I was doing a newspaper mission in Grandville to do a bank job against the LSSL bank, completed the mission but the Brokers's meter for my broker didn't advance. Did another mission, and it advanced then. Are bank jobs not advancing the Broker's meter?

[/ QUOTE ]
Right now, no they're not, in any zone, at least not with any of my characters. /bugged in game.

I'm another in the 'Stuck in Grandville' club, by the by, got the first mission from Ghost Widow, did a couple newspaper missions, now I can't do a thing but street-hunt. So I've been testing my new electric brute instead, when I really wanted to test the patron powers

My 2 cents:

I also loved the TV screens and the general look of the zone but hate the lag/framerate/whateveryoucallit. I had the problem others described of getting booted to desktop if I set foot in the hospital earlier this week, but that seems to have been corrected as of last night.

To my taste, they went overboard with the red lighting in the Patron Statue Hall. It does give it a creepy feel, but it is hard on my eyes and makes it hard to get a good luck at the statues.

I was a bit confused trying to find the patrons after speaking to Arbiter Rein. Part of that I think has to do with the red lighting. Eventually I discovered a door/elevator that carried you to a room with the patrons and Lord Recluse himself. That was very cool. However, the lag in this room was significantly worse than anywhere else I have travelled so far in Grandville. It was even worse that the area around the Atlas/Recluse statue in RV. And that's saying something. For those that have a bigger clue than me, I found it hard to move at all in the Patron Room. I would press my movement keys and nothing at all would happen and then I suddenly found myself overshooting the mark. By comparison, I experienced more of a rubberband effect by the Atlas/Recluse statue.

The worst part of it is that now that I have my first Patron mission, I can't get out the door. I get no blue hand of doom to click out. I tried multiple angles and zooming my camera in and out. I also tried just clicking on the door with the arrow icon. No effect. I'm stuck in a room with Lord Recluse, Ghost Widow, and Black Scorpion! HELP!.

PS. Naturally I /bugged that in the game.

Did I mention Granvile makes up for the crappieness of the Pre-14 zones? I hated those first few maps. They're allmost impossible to move in with Sprint. (luckily I had some practice with Sprint hating zones on my level 36 Scrapper who I so stupidly neglected to get any travel powers on)

Anyway I took this screen shot of Lord Recluse in Granvile and then stuck it on my dest top and of course made it the background of my MySpace profile.

I like the look of this zone alot, BUT I have not had much opertunity to do anything there yet do to the fact that every time i try to enter a mission i get errors and end up beeing booted out. then when i try to log back in the updater has to verify all files. I just hope this gets fixed before it goes live

Change the music for The Gutter. It needs to be nastier and edgier, not a snoozer theme from an earlier zone.

No comment on music from me. I've never heard any of the game music... EVER... I only have sound FXs up so I can hear blinkys anything elnce is just useless backround noise I'd end up tuning out anyway so I just turn it off.

I assume this place will do. I just wanted to add in my frustration at the fact that you need a patron badge to do the new SF it seems to penalise players that want to diversify their power selections.

Well, you can always choose a patron, do their arcs, but not take any of their patron powers. That should enable you to do Recluse's SF. I can't see it actually checking whether you have any of the powers.

Would it not be incredibly funny if they released a new PPP with issue 8??? Oh, and it would kicks [censored], too bad you can't repec into it....

Yeah, it could go like this:

1: Focused Accuracy
2: Power Sink
3: Force of Nature
4: Hibernate

...They'd call it "Chuck Norris mastery" and it would be awesome!

Note: In this context awesome should be read as likely to start a riot.

** Broken Record Alert!!!!**

Isn't ANYONE having the stupid hospital game crash like myself?!?!?!?!?!? I haven't read about anyone else complaining that they have to delete a character every time they die in Grandville. No news on it from the Devs or on any other thread I have seen.

Maybe I'm the only sorry loser noob that actually dies in Grandville.

Posted

Plenty of other people are having that as well. I personally am not, though I do have the issue that many others are having where I can't zone out of Grandville (including into missions and my base) without crashing.

Posted

I haven't been through too much of Grandville yet since I don't have a level 40 villain, but I took a quick look around with my Brute and I really liked what I saw. I still need to take a better look around as I've been spending most of my time on test playing a Thug MM. I'll probably wait until the crashing bugs are fixed since I seem to crash fairly often when zoning.

If they were to add new patrons, I'm sure they will give everyone a chance to change. They never said the PPPs will always be permanent. Most likely new PPPs would mean new patrons, who probably aren't loyal to Arachnos. They probably wouldn't care if you betrayed Arachnos to join them.

Especially since he uses one of the stereotypical uses for lag on the internet, yet ignores what lag really means. Lag fits well with either description yet some people who claim to know what they are talking about don't realize that. Lag can even be used in RL too when not talking about the internet or anything network related, using the same definition.

certainly a work around. I just had to state somewhere that I found it frustrating and narrow

The missions are superb - a minimum of repetitive stuff and defeat alls, plenty of flavour. The new map features are excellent (especially the Arachnoid tunnels, creepy as hell) and some old maps seem updated, e.g. the prison rooms and hangars in the Arachnos rooms.

And the Rescue Night Widows (Regent Korol) mission is sweet, sweet revenge. Shredded Carnies everywhere. Kudos to whoever wrote that one.

The hospital crash thing: yeah, it happened to me, too. A lot. My current workaround is to be in a SG with reclamator pods/med bays.

Ugh. My workaround is borked. I can load the zone okay, but trying to go to the base crashes the game.

So I fall from midair, dead, because I'd fallen to lvl 45 mobs on the way to my contact from a mish. I try to release to base, and I crash

Okay, not sure if this is the place to gripe about the arachnoids, but give me a break, the regen rate on these things is better then my regen scrapper gets without integration. The EB you run into in Dobb's second storyarc is unkillable due to his insane regen rate (not to mention the mission fail bug when he 'runs'). Hopefully this will be toned down before it goes live. I don't want to have to pull a full team of 8 -regeners just to take out an EB on villianous diff.
