I made this list on the Champions board but I'd like to enlist the help of everyone to make a longer, more complete list of everything in game that was suggested by players on the boards, and then implemented by the Devs in game.

Player suggested content that has been implemented:
[*] biker type leather jackets were requested after seeing the other type of motorcycle jacket. they are in game now[*] fishnet stockings were highly requested. two types are now in game.[*] trenchcoats. not actually live yet but has been / is being implemented. Many people posted wanting these. [*] many other costume items! One specific recent very quickly added one is bare legs for men. [*] ED was suggested originally on these boards. [*] Suppression was suggested originally on these boards. [*] both having phase shift suppress ability to click blinkies, stealth do likewise, and stealth doing likewise being a bad idea were suggested here. all implemented. [*] sonic and archery as new powersets were suggested and implemented. electric melee/armor powersets coming in I7 were suggested on boards. [*] "epic" badges for extreme amounts of healing, damage taken, etc were suggested on boards and are in game now [*] name for 200 badges badge was suggested on board and implemented (I think it is Trailblazer) [*] giving special inherent powers to all ATs was requested on boards and has been done: all ATs have inherents now [*] redoing various scrapper animations (already in game for martial arts, katana, and upcoming for claws) has been requested on boards and implemented. [*] changing Unyielding Stance for Invulnerable to allow invs to move while status effect resistant was requested on boards and implemented [*] Dance Club improvements were requested on board and implemented [*] vast changes to Sonic bubbling graphics due to widespread headaches were requested -- BEGGED for -- and implemented [*] also the name of Sonic bubbling was changed from "Sonic Buff" to "Sonic Resonance" after complaints on the board about the genericness of the name and suggestion of the new name. [*] Global chat and Coalition chat were both very requested by players before being implemented. Coalition chat itself came about because of requests that Global wasn't *exactly* what some had been asking for and so they made Coalition chat too. They had most definitely not been planning on doing it.

Also I got from Ice Ember reminded that the "Kill Skuls" badge was added due to the chat about Killing Skuls here.

What else have our community suggested that's been implemented? I'm hoping for a HUGE list so throw em out please!

Not sure if it counts, but changing the Arena board into the Badge board was definitely player suggested.

* Plant Control for domination has been suggested since CoH launch and will most likely be brought over to CoH in the future.
* Many kheldian powers were changed and kheldians were buffed around player suggestions
* Special missions for Kheldians, hopefully to be expanded to more ATs in the future
* Badges that unlock costume pieces
* AT-specific temp powers in the early game
* A second contact chain in Mercy Isle in CoV
* Combining similiar missions
* SG bios were added
* SG bases will have vaults for enhancements in I7
* Deathsurge badge was added after many requested it
* Spawnable monsters in CoV
* I actually suggested Winter Minion and Red Cap gladiators in CoV Beta

* Increased bonus for teaming based on team size
* Increased mission complete bonus based on mission difficulty

* Supergroup badges
* A Maple Leaf chest symbol
* Pirate-themed costume pieces were highly suggested in CoV Beta and put in fairly quickly
* Badges that unlock contacts and story arcs
* Portals to help get to RCS and the Shadow Shard zones
* The removal of the "Power 10" enhancement scheme in stores
* Increased blaster hitpoints and damage cap
* The new domination (original domination meant the lower in health a target was, the easier and longer you can hold them)
* The new scourge (Scourge used to be double damage when a target was at 20% HP, now you get a chance to scourge at 50% that increases as the enemy goes down in HP)
* Removal of Ice Brutes
* New zones featuring missions that only exist in that zone so there's less travel
* More "active" zones featuring enemies fighting enemies

This is a "maybe" item on the list because we aren't fully sure how it will work, but the inventions system sounds like temp power crafting.

When the SSOCS was originaly mentioned a lot of people were talking about possibly crafting temp powers.

It's not as sexy as some things, but a fair amount of the global chat, team search, and UI tweaks since launch have been inspired or given priority by player suggestions.

My faves:
- team search comment section
- third power button tray (thanks Positron! )

Posted

* Changes to Hami-O enhancements were suggested by the playerbase
* The ability to give leadership to another player on a team
* The Team Search flags for what you are particularly looking for
* Inspiration selling bartenders in Pocket D
* "Traps" inside missions like in the first mission of the Hess TF
* Elec Mastery Blaster Power Pool
* Pets following players up/down elevators
* AutoRSKing for Task Forces and Trials
* Removal of flight's tohit debuff

* Changes to the in-game email system, though most people barely use it.
* Addition of a few seconds of hover to TP self so you can continue to TP without dropping like a stone.

Wow..

Have all these really been suggested by players? I don't go down to suggestions much myself. I am not a dev so I can't implement them...

This is but the tip of the iceberg.

I'll probably be here all night posting things that come to mind.

It's fun thinking about this and realizing that some of the stuff in the game right now that we take for granted wasn't originally there and was suggested by players. RSKing probably being the biggest one.

So much for "devs don't listen!" huh? And so much for the fanbois that respond "it is good they don't listen! our suggestions would ruin the game!".

Try to be more carefull. I have seen some of you guys restating what has been said.. How about every so many posts someone makes a combined list of changes to keep things strait?

I'd say the devs success with player suggestions, is knowing which ones are crap and which ones would be an actual improvement.

::Nod nod::

I am just reflecting on the sillyness of declaring such things.

My belief is that the devs DO listen, but there is a "this is our game.." attitude going on. That is good though. Letting themselves get pushed around by the playerbase isn't good, and as long as they ARE listening that is cool.

Well, a pretty wide net has been cast here. We can't assume that everything that is mentioned in the forum prior to official announcement is something that the dev team hasn't thought of or worked on before, but a fair number were. Sometimes, player posts provide a tipping point that can move something that existed on a post-it note at Cryptic to the greaseboard and then on to a patch note.

Some people when they are overcome with disgruntled disappointment like to state that the devs ignore the players. That's just not true. Players provide valuable feedback in greater and lesser ways very regularly.

Posted

Very true.. but going from "meh.. maybe" to "hey.. why not?" because of player feedback is good enough for me. Though I wouldn't be suprised if a lot of these were player originated ideas. Different people can generate vastly different ideas. That is the benifit of having a large group of people to pull suggestions from. Things you NEVER would have thought of can pop up.

Posted

Yup. I like where we are at now, too. They seem to take the suggestions that benefit the entire playerbase (even if some stuff like ED or supression doesn't seem like it does).

If the devs just listened to players 100% and implemented every suggestion, though, the game would be killed in seconds. It might have been before your time, Kitty, but I've seen such fabulously gamebreaking suggestions as:

* Blasters should never get debt
* Blasters should have no hitpoints and take no damage
* Blasters should have unlimited endurance
* Tankers should never lose one on one in PvP

etc etc etc

Been around since just before issue two. Long enough to get the equivelant of two characters to level twenty(deleted and rerolled before anyone knew we would be getting respecs!). I didn't pay to much attention tot he boards back then though. Mostly just for advice.

Those sound crazy though, and I already agreed. Devs shouldn't let themselves get pushed around, but they should still listen.

Oh! OH!

I wanna add my suggestion turned reality too!

Oh.. wait... its not in yet... all I have is the standard "Good suggestion." from Statesman...

right off hand, before the end of the heroes beta, wasnt there a contest to name a zone and one the the surviving 8? i'm not sure but wasn't it Crey's Folly and Sister Psyche? I'd consider those fairly big contributions.

I don't know about the zone, if there was such a contest, but Numina was the hero.

Pet windows and, possibly, pet controls (which were only given to MMs)

Crey's Folly was named by players (originally named Venice) and Numina was certainly named by players.

Other things suggested by players:

-Ship to Striga in IP (originally only the Talos one existed)
-The ability to attack through Superior invisibility
-The need to type the character's name upon deletion
-The ability to trade 99999 inf at a time
-The teleport and rez confirmation windows

And the one change that spawned from one of the most intense debates on these boards?

-The lighting of the flag on City Hall.

and no...I'm not kidding...

-Kendal

Sadly, Kendal *ISN'T* kidding. I still remember that little firestorm of controversy well.
