Well, Seeing as CoV LAUNCHED on Halloween this year, That in itself was a big enough Event to take care of from the Devs point of view. I'm willing to Wager this Holiday season (Barring any MAJOR Launches of a New Game or Issue) we will all be able to gather the badges we all so richly Desire

[/ QUOTE ]

Cool! Like how the people who missed the Winter Lords in 04 were able to get the winter lord badges this year!

[/ QUOTE ] i guess your talking about COH cause in villian side we couldnt get the winter lords badge cause he never spwans in COV unless your talking about killing 100 (or 200?) of the snowbeast. but thats not the winter lord badge which inturn would mean you dont know what you talking about which in turn would discredit EVERYthing you say :P

[/ QUOTE ]

I think what he is saying is that there is no precident for the opportunity to get event badges that were missed. Halloween didn't repeat and neither did Winter Lords.

Perhaps I missed it but just when are the gladiators to be awarded, even on test I haven't gotten either. And I have both ToyCollector and Toothbreaker.

Ah thanks, reading not my forte` I read that but thought it said on live before the end of the day. not event ok reading comprehension=F for me. (punctuation is horrid to I see.)

Are you really saying that had you known that you would have gained access to a SnowBeast Gladiator, you would have spent 3 hours to get Toy Collector???

[/ QUOTE ]

That is exactly the case for me. If I'd known there was a gladiator attached, I'd have put in the extra time. Didn't want to put in all the extra time just for the TC badge itself.

[/ QUOTE ]

There is an existing policy that 1-time badges you may have missed will not be required for Accolade Powers. For this reason Isolator will never contribute to an accolade. That has little to do with pre-I2 characters never having a chance, it's mostly about new players that leave Outbreak never knowing there was a badge to be gathered there.
I don't see a real difference between Accolade Powers and Arena Powers in the form of a Gladiator pet.
That policy should apply here. We passed up on present collecting never knowing it would give a Gladiator, we can't go back for it, this is the same as Isolator. Toy Collector should not give a Gladiator.

If the Devs really want to give Snowbeasts for the arena, they should give them for Jetsetter/PhalanxReserve. That would more fair.

(That's my last comment on the subject unless Positron himself wants to address this.)

[/ QUOTE ]

Or for the badge you get for beating down the snowbeasts (cold warrior right?)

"If I'd known I would have gotten something out of it, I'd have shoveled my elderly neighbor's driveway for her." Sometimes you should not make decisions about what you think you might out of them, just about whether its worth doing something for its own sake.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wait wait... you're comparing doing a good deed for ANOTHER, old and feeble person to doing something self-satisfying. Sorry your analogy fails.

Maybe "If I'd known I would have gotten something out of it I'd have shoveled MY driveway..."

Toy Collector isn't affecting anyone but the individual gamer. Me having/not having it doesn't affect you.

So comparing us getting it or not getting it to a good deed for another person doesn't work.

It comes down to the simple fact that special events are just that, special. They shouldn't be repeated and you shouldn't have the opportunity to get those badges at a later time. Call it, for lack of a better pun, a badge of honor.

While I was around to get the Halloween 04 badges, I was in Iraq for both the Winter Lord and anniversary badges. While I'm very disappointed that I didn't get those badges because of my deployment, I, in no way, expect to have another chance to get them. I'm content getting the next holiday badge instead.

Just because your toon was created in 2006 doesn't mean you should have a chance to get a 2004 badge. Just because you were out of town during that event in 2004 doesn't mean you should get the chance to get the badges retroactively. You just have to make a choice about whether vacation time or playing the game is more important.

Posted

Well, my take on getting "event-specific" badges: Everybody should have a shot at getting every badge; even if that shot only comes a few weeks every year. The one exception I would make is with Celebrant; and only somewhat: Have Celebrant award the 1st May you actually log in on. Have a new one- say "Party Animal" or whatever- the 2nd May. So, this anniversary, those of us who weren't here (and all the villains) will get Celebrant; those who were here the first time would get the 2nd badge. Continue as long as the game survivies; everybody now has a chance at all the badges. But longer-term collectors will always be one or more ahead, and able to show it.

That's just my opinion, though.

Posted

But that's our point too. Long term collectors have a right to the old holiday badges that new collectors should never have. You'll still get holiday badges, but we'll always be one or two ahead of you.

I'm not asking for Toy Collector. I made a decision not to spend hours acquiring a badge. However, it now appears that was An Uninformed Decision (TM) with regards to this Gladiator. And I agree completely with Statesman, those types of decisions are bad.

[/ QUOTE ]

I understand where you're coming from, but I don't agree with you. The point of opening 200 presents was to get the Toy Collector badge. As part of that process, there were some temp powers you might get, and present inspirations. (On one of my two characters who got the badge, I didn't even get both temp powers and considered opening additional presents until he did.) So there WAS content beyond simply getting a title. That is all that anyone had to base their decision on. Please keep in mind that Gladiator is a system that is still somewhat new. Additional badges are being added still, some to old and common badges; the most recent example of this is the Kaolin Legacy of Earth which is linked to the Collector badge. It DID in fact occur to me that at some point in time they might link a winter minion gladiator badge to Toy Collector. I did not make my decision to get Toy Collector based on that. I made my decision because I wanted the title.

Frankly, a lot of people whined about Toy Collector being so tedious to get. In the end, it really was something very challenging for a badge hunter to solo, and I am quite proud of having it on two characters. That we are now going to get a gladiator for it is a very nice surprise that I appreciate. The grousing I am hearing about it from others though reminds me of people who say things like, "If I'd known I would have gotten something out of it, I'd have shoveled my elderly neighbor's driveway for her." Sometimes you should not make decisions about what you think you might out of them, just about whether its worth doing something for its own sake.

Could not have said it better myself.

Except he follows it up with this phrase "Sometimes you should not make decisions about what you think you might out of them, just about whether its worth doing something for its own sake." which explains his point quite well and helps everyone understand his point. Therefore, his analogy works fine.

This may be a stupid question (and sorry about going back on topic ) but... does anyone know if, once you have unlocked DJ Zero as a contact, you can do his missions after February 22? Or do his missions, and the possibility of getting Toothbreaker, go away along with Ganymede and Scratch?

Just wondering how much I have to do before the deadlines hits. I have too many alts, you see...

Actually, I may have a way of getting these badges within a short time.

I'm just waiting for an answer from a PM to Positron if what I am proposing may get me banned. (It's better to get permsission than forgiveness).

Sometimes, I impress my boss. Sometimes, I impress myself. The rest of the time, I scare people. I can live with that.

Intriguing. If you don't post about it here, please send me a PM if your scheme works out.

No, it doesn't.

Simply put, spending several hours to collect the 200 presents required for Toy Collector wasn't worth it without some sort of tangible reward. We would have put in the effort if we had known there was some sort of reward. But spending an excessive amount of our already free time for something that appeared to be just another badge was not worth it to a lot of us.

There was no risk to anyone over level 10. It was just a grind. It strikes me as very arbitrary. Pretend for a moment that on President's Day, a toon earned a gladiator if she had the letter X in her name on New Years Day? If you had known about this, you would have been able to make the INFORMED CHOICE (TM) to have at least one toon with that letter X. But by the time the gladiator rolls around, it's far too late to do anything about it.

Agreed. If I had known there was a gladiator involved I would have made more of an effort to log in over Christmas and farm some presents. At the time I did not know, and being Christmas and all there was other more important stuff going on in the world than farming presents for just another badge.

Soloable, although they involve an Elite Boss, so you might want a team anyway.

[/ QUOTE ]

I was able to solo this with my 50 blaster and my 35 MM...

took alot longer with my blaster...and died more times with my MM..

[/ QUOTE ]

So far I've soloed Snaptooth with my 38 Bot/FF Mastermind. The Lieutenant and Boss versions were easy (Malicious level). Elite Boss level was a bit trickier with the large amount of Rascals that would show but there is a way around this. I made sure to clear the area of Counsel before I engage Snaptooth to give me room to maneuver. I found that if I was able to kill Snaptooth and back out of aggro range quick enough he wouldn't move from the spot I defeated him at when he respawned. I would then kill the Rascals that came at me in a nice conga line. Once the Rascals (and any Hooligans that popped up) were dealt with, I turned on Force Bubble, pinned him in a corner with it and told my bots to remove him from my sight.

My 50 Fire/Energy/Fire Blaster will have an easier time - Hover out of range, Boost Range and blast away.

'Lo, there do I see my father.
'Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers.
'Lo, there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning.
'Lo, they do call to me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla, where the brave may live forever.

I've found that the Nectar temp power helped a lot with Snappy, too. Nail him with it, and he'll help you clear out the rascals. Saved my bacon when things were getting hairy.

One easy way I can see is just to come along on the missions of a much lower level hero/villain. This is standard operating procedure among badge hounds looking for missed mission badges, etc. If the lowbie does not care about the XP, run their Snaptooth missions and just take out Snappy as fast as possible.

MA Arc - Gnomish Madness - #30204 - A short, silly little story.

Ms. Tempest - Lvl 50 Storm/Elec Def (577 badges)
Maiden Dark - Lvl 50 Dark/Dark Corr
Moonlight Maiden - Lvl 50 Warshade
Sister Leortha - Lvl 50 Emp/Rad Def
Puffball - Lvl 50 Inv/SS Tank

Yup. I learned I needed the room to manuver so I cleared the Arachnos troops before pulling Toothbreaker to a distant spot. I generally engage him on the "airstrip" atop the hill.

Yup I thought of that one also. Works for the other 4 PD missions as well.

Another way is to just get a good team together, teleport to Snaptooth and kill him the three times in quick succession, then quickly hit the exit button before the ambushes have time to do very much. Did this myself with a very good 3 man team (no one was exemplared or sk'ed) and once we got the hang of it we found we could complete the mission in about 3-5 mins and completely ignore the ambushes. The temp powers that the bartenders sell help with this.

Safest spot to take out sanppy, is near that airstrip. If you have TP foe. when he is an LT. get your self up on the tower with the radar. Then TP Snappy up there with you, you can then take out the lt, boss, and EB without interfeence from the rascals. To high to jump, and to far for range weapons.
