Khaiba's Mastermind Numeric Keypad Pet Controls
Big thanks to Sandolphan and everyone else involved with these helpful binds. I cannot tell you how much MORE fun my Ninja mastermind is now.
It's even better than Pikmin
Because of you, my numpad has become my piano keys, my robots have become the notes, and the strokes combine into a really really deadly symphony....with laser-light effects. =)
I thank you.

"We've trained you better than for you to use excuses like 'I didn't have control over what I was doing!'" - Major Tasker, Longbow
I use them, I love them, they SHOULD be the default bindings given to you by CoV.
Thanks!
Is there a quicker way of giving a minion a respite instead of dragging by any chance?

Boy I would *love* that since drag-n-drop is not very practical for me:
--Dragging on their avatar in combat is tricky at best with them dancing around or overlapping each other.
--Dragging on their name on the pets list is tough when you run 75% window scale.
But in the end between the "heal" in robotics, the Protector Bots, and getting into the "heal pool" I do alright.

You can change window scale?? Holy Crap! *Smacks plam against face*
That said I disagree with everything that CFI just said... simply because I always know less than he does.
(note: the above comment is in no way supposed to be sensible)

Yeah, it does create some GUI wierdness though:
--Those little messages when you first enter the mission? The "OK" button is often right in the middle of the text and the goes spilling off the edge of the little window.
--The menu text in the Nav window does not move correctly so it spills off the right edge.
--The chat text can be odd to read sometimes. Hard to discern "a" from "o" and "," from ".", that sort of thing.
Yeah I run on a 17" monitor at something like 1152 or 1280, then scale my windows down to 75%...gives me a much wider field of view. Of course, had to turn-down my graphics settings to compensate (MX440 video card), but it was worth it not to have to have this tank-like view of the game around all the windows.
I keep up at all times:
--Target
--Nav
--All three power trays
--Inspirations
--Map (at minimum size)
--Upper and lower chat panes
--Team
--Pets

Used the binds to do my first "bot pull" on a team yesterday. Something I do alot solo, but never tried it in a crowded team setting. The keypad binds are a must for this sort of manuever:
--Move team and all bots (goto) back around a corner (tanker-style pull prep)
--Move Assault Bot out of crowd
--Since I'm Force Fields, buff bot with shields
--Since I have Grant Invis, buff bot with Invis.
--Assault bot "attack my target"
--Toggle back to "all" and use "goto/passive" to bring Assult back behind team
--Utterly obliterate the sucker who follows Assult in to team ;-)
This proved a great trick when TP Foe wasn't working so well and the team was fighting high-con villains with only one brute and alot of squishies (doms and corrupters). Took a bit of convincing for them to let me try I think, they seemed hesitant. Worked like a charm though.
You can do this sort of thing without the binds, but it's tedious. I agree with the above post about this being the MM piano. These keybinds aught to be a default set from the devs.

Thanks for the info CFI. I'll prolly give it a shot this evening. I've already come across some situations in which the menus get in the way a bit too much. (Mind you this is with my Illus/emp...I can only imagine the eventual chaos of an mm)

Great job showing the varied skills of the Mastermind! I would only recommend some slight alterations to the steps:
--After moving all the pets to their Goto spot, set them to Passive stance.
--After the chosen pet attacks (actually as he is firing), click his Goto spot, just ordering him alone. You don't need to use All when bringing him back. It can lead to some confusion if you or your team suddenly see all your pet jumping around as the pull is incoming.
--Don't forget to shift their stance again when battle begins, depending upon how you like them set during a fight. I often will set Aggressive and let them choose targets in an open melee, as I am busy with my secondary supporting the team.
I don't like using the boss pet for pulling. It's too likely he'll end up taking an alpha if the pull goes wrong. When using one of the other pets, one of the control by name setups is invaluable.
Also, depending upon which pet set your are using, you'll want to choose a puller that uses a long range attack as a first choice, and make sure the pet has that attack cued up.
Finally, remember there is no real substitute for a stealthy, skilled, human pull.
Good luck!

Ok, I keep seeing the file directories you say to put it in but when I go there I dont see a C:\COVBIND blah blah. Do I need to make the folder?
Sorry yes, you need to make the folder c:/covbinds in which to place the text files.

I think my project for the weekend might be downloadable versions of these files, and a downloadable version of the extra chatty keybinds I just went into. (that people can customize with their own chat, but all the other stuff is taken care of)
Sandolphan I will send you a pm when and if I get it done. (Assuming I find a reliable file-host)
[/ QUOTE ]
Any one know if this was ever done? I would love to get my hands on already made files and just edit them. I don't like to spam the chat window with pet talk so I would use the chat only every once in a while, but it would be great to do.
Anyone have the files?
Edit: just wanted to clarify that I was asking about the chat/no chat files that dynamically call each other.

The baseline Mastermind binds are available in CityBinder (link in Sig), along with the ability to set up chatty versions. I'll likely add a chat/no-chat toggle to the thing as well.

Okay. Just finished adding this to CityBinder. Fairly easy modification, though I decided to get fancy and allow finer control over exactly what chat modes to use. CityBinder supports Chat in Local, Self-tells, petsay commands, and each command, selection, mode changes, and Attack/Follow/Stay/Goto commands each maintain their own chat method. You can also turn off all your chats with a simple Chatty-Mode toggle. You can also relocate the binds to different keys, and even to mouse buttons. This new version is available for download now. Check the link in my Sig for details. Make sure to download version 0.4a for these binds.
That is great! Thank you! I will try this out as soon as I get home. Hope its not too complicated.
great
Obviously I liked this thread so much I linked it in my sig. Thanks for all the work!
Ok, I must be blind as a bat because I looked in my COV folder and there is no folder called COVBINDS, so what do I do? I mean not everyone is a scripter. I understand how to do it but since there is no folder....do I just create one?

Create the folder directly in your C: Drive. I.E. Open My Computer, double click your C Drive icon. Create the covbinds folder right there. Create the bindfiles inside the folder just created.

Hmmm...you are not alone in confusion over my wording it seems. I guess I'll send a slight correction to the publishers for the next revision:

1. Make and save each of the textfiles for your type of Mastermind, and put them into a new directory called c:\covbinds (files are listed in Part III).

Sandolphan,
Just wanted to add my voice to the thanks. My wife and I love the masterminds, but were having difficulties with controling the right minion at the right time. No more, thanks to you. Really appreciate it.
GREAT set of binds. I loved the file based system - a breeze to configure modifications and try them out. I have moved the keypad arround a bit (0-3 pet, 4-6 move command, 7-9 modifier). I also used mutliply to set a stay command.
I added the individual pet command loaders to lalt+numpadX - IE minions are lalt+numpad1, lalt+numpad4 and lalt+numpad7.
AS a merc MM I put in a couple of direct commands to my medic (Minion3) so I can position him with suctract and put him in passive with add. HE always seems to aggro first and this lets me micromange him easy - All Attack followed by medic passive untill aggro set then all attack again.
Good Job!
Bob
Commanding pairs of pet groups (ie Genin and Jounin, but not Lich, with one command)
Thanks to Pacster for bringing this up again as a solution some people have been seeking.
I'd forgotten that the game parses /petcom_pow in a similar fashion to /petcom_name. Thus, in addition to Monorail's earlier suggestion of commanding specific pet groupings by selective naming, you can also command pet group pairs by power.
Back in beta I had a post showing the various combos you could use to command different pairs of pet groups. Some people have expressed an interest in it again, so here are some instructions for doing this.
Use the command /petcom_pow <letter> <command>, where the <letter> is unique to the groups you wish to issue a <command>. Here is a chart showing the pair combinations of pet groups and associated unique letters you can use in the command:
(format)
Mastermind Type:
Pet groups 1 and 2: unique letter(s) for command
Pet groups 2 and 3: unique letter(s) for command
Pet groups 1 and 3: unique letter(s) for command
[ QUOTE ]
Mercs:
1+2: S,E
2+3: C
1+3: D
Necro:
1+2: R,E
2+3: (none)
1+3: I
Ninja:
1+2: C,A,L
2+3: O
1+3: (none)
Robot:
1+2: E,R
2+3: BO,BOT,BOTS, OT, OTS, TS
1+3: A,L
[/ QUOTE ]
In each case, a single letter can be used in the command and the game will 'best fit' the command to the power names (similar to how it parses /petcom_name <name>. For example, to command the Robot pet groups Battle Drones and Protector Bots, you could issue the command:
/petcom_pow e goto
This would send only those two groups to the targeted location. Single letters work fine. By the chart above, some combinations are not possible, and the Robot tiers 2 and 3 have to use some combination of the word 'bots' consisting of more than one letter.
If you wanted to append these functions onto the numpad system, you could assign a modifier key (alt, ctrl, shift) to the numpad1-3 and make files/binds to select groups 1+2, 2+3, 1+3 for commands. Something like this (using left-control):
MERC (Minion+Lieutenant, Lieutenant+Boss, Minion+Boss):
[ QUOTE ]
/bind lctrl+numpad1 "bind numpad4 petcompow s agg$$bind numpad5 petcompow s def$$bind numpad6 petcompow s pass$$bind numpad7 petcompow s att$$bind numpad8 petcompow s fol$$bind numpad9 petcompow s goto"
.
/bind lctrl+numpad2 "bind numpad4 petcompow c agg$$bind numpad5 petcompow c def$$bind numpad6 petcompow c pass$$bind numpad7 petcompow c att$$bind numpad8 petcompow c fol$$bind numpad9 petcompow c goto"
.
/bind lctrl+numpad3 "bind numpad4 petcompow d agg$$bind numpad5 petcompow d def$$bind numpad6 petcompow d pass$$bind numpad7 petcompow d att$$bind numpad8 petcompow d fol$$bind numpad9 petcompow d goto"
[/ QUOTE ]
As Monorail previously pointed out, it's also possible to do this using /petcom_name <letter> <command> to command specific combinations of pets of any tier, but you have to set up the names to share letters carefully. This might be useful for commanding All pets except the Medic in Mercs (make an All pets bind on lctrl+numpad0) for example.
Hope someone finds that useful!
