this my be off topic but how can you command invidual pets when they have names longer than 6 letters or have spaces in them like my ninja master mind called mr dumas, who has tow genin called "right hand of" (mr dumas) and "left hand of" (mr dumas) any clues...i noticed you said something about using something significant in there name or was that their title ie genin or lich (lord) or does it count with names so i could use right or left?

PS: thinking of name for 3 rd pet in 2 and a bit levels :P

To command individuals named "right hand of" and "left hand of", simply set up the commands to use "right" and "left". Any unique portion of the name is allowed, and the game will find a 'best fit' to use.

Further, if you have two additional pets named "right foot of" and "left foot of", and use the "left" suggestion above, then you will end up commanding all pets having "left" in their name. In this case, two pets matching "left" would follow the orders.

Name suggestions:
Tier 2 pet names: "right eye of" and "left eye of"
Tier 3 pet name: "will of"

Hmmm...third Tier 1 name: "middle hand of"

You just need the first 6 letters. The system should find the best match. So just Right and Left would work.

does anyone know if this works with a usb numeric keypad? I play on a laptop, so no real numeric keypad. If it will, I'll buy one!!!

That's a good question. If it works for other programs then it should work for COV.

There are other versions of these binds. Someone made some with other keys around the WASD, check the sticky in the mastermind forums and you should be able to find it.

I can't imagine why it wouldn't work with an add-on keypad. The code sent for the keys would need to be the same to be recognized by the computer. It's not like CoH is doing something arcane, it's just reading the input like any other program.

Of course, as stated you could just remap the system any way you like!

You could always try CityBinder to create your Pet Control binds for you. I have a lot left to do to make CB easier for people to use in general, and I plan on expanding the system for some advanced personalizations, but it is in a state that's ready to use right now. Check my Sig for a Link.

Hi, first of all, great post, the commands must save a lot of time!

Which brings me to my point, I can't get it to work.. I've made all the text files (All.txt, Necro.txt, Zombie, Grave, Lich, and 5 named ones), and as far as I can see, everything is spelt correctly and referring to the proper file.
However when I try to /bind_load_file c:\covbinds\Necro.txt in-game, it says "Unable to read in keybind file c:\covbinds\Necro.txt" .

I've no clue what the problem is, and would appreciate any help.

You might doublecheck that Microsoft Windows isn't adding an extra ".txt" to the end of your files. If you are using Windows XP, open up the folder your files are in (c:\covbinds), and click on the Tools menu then click on Folder Options. This will bring up a dialog box with about four tab pages listed at the top. The second tab should be labeled View; click on that tab. In the lower half of the View tab are the Advanced Settings. In there is an option to "Hide extensions for known file types". This option should be unchecked. Why Microsoft thought of hiding a vital part of a file's name from the user and call it a feature, I don't know. If it is checked, uncheck it and click the OK button at the bottom of that window. Older versions of Windows have similar ways of disabling this feature... just hunt around your Explorer menu bars for the Folder Options menu choice.

If that isn't it, then you may want to be absolutely certain you are not adding any spaces (doesn't seem like it), and be absolutely sure that your binds are actually on the C drive.

Aha! That did the trick. Naughty Windows.. Will need to punish it somehow.

Thanks a lot for your help, appreciate it.

Great guide, i use the binds a ton, but I was wondering is there a way to set the goto to only include my zombies and grave knights, want my lich to stay in the back. Having trouble setting that up.

This guide is GREAT!

I just loaded in the txt file version of this and it's working beautifully.

I do have a question that's kinda related...

I'm trying to make a macro for summoning, and I'm wondering... is there a command that will let you activate one power, then pause, then activate another power? I know how to get the powers to work, but I don't know the "pause" command if there is one. Can anyone help with this?

[/ QUOTE ]Well, you may be able to change the line in your all.txt file that reads "numpad9 petcom_all goto" to this instead: "petcom_pow zombie goto$$petcom_pow grave goto". I haven't tested this though, so I don't know if it works.

That should work although two things:

1. Binds being so dodgy, I'd want to test it in game first...and the game is currently down for maintenance.

2. I would actually try this instead:
numpad 9 petcom_all goto$$petcom_pow lich fol

This is the least amount of change from the All commands, and issues a specific to your lich to follow you. As I said though, chains of commands issued, especially to pets, don't always seem to work nicely. Sometimes it's a matter of the order of the commands, sometimes it's the parsing of the command by the pets. They seem to want to complete one command before starting another. The lich might try to finish 'going to' before following. Again, I usually test things before posting them, but can't at the moment and I'm leaving shortly for the day.

I have tested this in game (using my mercenaries). This command will cause all your pets to goto the point you click on, then after your Lich has reached that point, it will return to you. You must explicitly send only one command to the Lich. The problem exists that it is possible that sending two goto command, one to your zombies, and one to your grave knights, might cause one goto command to cancel the other out. Best to use names instead, and make sure that your tier 1 and tier 2 pets have similiar name components that your lich does not have. E.G.:

zombies are named: Bob, Bill, Reuben
Grave Knights are named: Becky and Betty
Lich is named: Rufus

Then you can use the command, "petcom_name b goto", to tell your zombies and grave knights to goto, and keep your lich out of it.

Did some testing of issuing a chain of goto commands. Basically it doesn't work right. Only the last goto command is followed (probably something to do with replacing the targeting recticle).

You'll either have to issue goto commands to the separate power groups (ie numpad1 and numpad2 groups, leaving the boss lich behind) or use the naming workaround suggested above. Of course, that would constrain you in your pet names, but sacrifices all around I guess.

I've used on my ninja mastermind the following set of binds.

They are all two part binds, but I really like the setup, I can use one hand for movement and one for commanding pets.

File: C:\covbinds\all

numpad1 "bindloadfile C:\covbinds\genin"
numpad2 "bindloadfile C:\covbinds\jounin"

multiply "powexecname Call Jounin"
subrtact "powexecname Oni"

Just a quick note that's a bit off-topic, but I wanted to put to rest what I keep getting asked:

Yes, I'm the original author. Sandolphan is my CoH handle. Khaiba was my CoV Beta handle. Perhaps it sounded like I was taking credit for someone else's beta-post when I wrote this version for Live, but I'm one and the same person (most days )

And thanks for the compliments and PM's. It really makes me feel like I helped out in a small way.

Personally, I'd like to thank all the people who helped *me* out along the way. We can all play better and have more fun because of the great support of the players and the openness of the devs with their game.

Ok, back to regularly scheduled bind discussions...

Just wanted to add my 2 cents in here...nice guide and I use it religiously. Thanks for saving me so much time and effort.

Are the =/*-+. symbols on the keypad different than their main keyboard equivalents?

In other words is this valid in a bind file...

divide "em roar"
/ "em wallean"
add "em holdtorch"
+ "em ledgesit"

...or are "+" and "add" the same key?

Looking so see if all the numeric keypad keys are separate entities like the difference between "1" and "numpad1"

Thanks!

[EDIT: And I am referring to MM pet control...I wanted to do some other pet stuff on the keypad, but "/" is already in use on the main keyboard, and I have "+" and "-" already in use too. So fit they register separately on the numeric keypad that would be a boon!]

Finally got a keybpad (Zboard doesn't have one) and have tried the keybinds a couple of times now, with a few special tweaks for my own playstyle, and I love it! Highly recommend for Masterminds.

If more people used these I'd have to listen to alot less of the "MasterMinds suck on teams" crap. ;-P
