Mini Guide to Banisher aka Spirit Mask Badge

So you want to get that banisher badge too?

Well sorry, It's not actually all that easy to get. 200 spirits means basically you're either spending a lot of time hunting or farming missions. Note too that only the masks of lvl 20-29 missions, and masks from Paragon city count. Masks from Portal missions (lvl 40+ missions) do not.

Hunting: Some masks appear in Talos near the DA entrance, and if you see one going in, by all means kill it, but don't try to hunt there unless you're a masochist.

Hunt locations in DA:

1) 6-8 spawn points (about 1-6 masks in a typical visit) - 208 yds SSE of Didos View marker (loc 354, 1, 4260) there's a brown rectangle in the far SE corner of the area map. That spot has spawn points through it, and 1 just W of it (other side of wall to dirt area).

2) 3-4 spawn points (0-2 masks in a typical visit) - 285yds SSE of Romeo Heights marker (loc: 4788, 0, 2493) on the basketball court or in the street below.

3) 1-2 spawn points (0-2 masks in a typical visit) - 242yds SSE of Toffet Terrace marker (loc: 3576, -41, 3411)

I have seen a 4th spot, but didn't record it at the time. If you're solo, you might just want to stick to the 1st spot and do loops through it (can get boring though). If you fought for a min or two on your way though the furthest end should have respawned already.

You can of course hunt these at any level, but you might as well get good XP for them too if you can. Most masks in DA are lvl 22-25, so go at the levels that seem best for this to you.

I have also seen some spawns in Strigia I believe, but have never hunted masks carefully there. I may post on this later or if someone finds the info please feel free to attach it to this thread and improve my guide.

Farming missions: Get the Banished Pantheon missions from their contacts and farm them

LVL 20-25 contacts are: Josef Keller, Dr. Cheng, Oliver Haak, Andrea Mitchell, Cain Royce, and Piper Irving
LVL 25-30 contacts are: Miriam Bloechi, and Laura Brunetti

How to farm the instanced missions:
- Check to see if they have spirit masks in them, some are all Totems which don't count. If it's all totems there isn't much point in getting a big group, just do the mission as you like and move on to the next one that hopefully does have them.
- get as many people for them as you can (8 is best)
- To farm a mission: Run a mission with lots of Spirits but not to completion, leaving 1 hostage or not killing all as aprropriate. After you have done this, everyone must leave the mission, and then you must select another non-hunt mission (clicking yes to abandon your current mission), and then reslect the BP mission. This resets it so you can run it again.

Otherwise just completing these missions w 8 people gives you a nice start on your 200 Spirits that you can polish off with hunting.

I hope this helps.

BTW: I am generally against farming missions, but for the BP you're very likely to outlevel them before you get your 200. 200 bosses is a lot (more than for any other boss-only badge), has the least number of spawn points of any other Boss I can think of, and is only available in a tight level range (where you're also hunting Lost Bosses, Sorcerers, Freak Tanks, and CoTs for accolades too), so this one is weirdly hard to get.

Talos is the best place to find masks. The office buildings near the DA gate have spawn points all around them (and some further west along the bridge as well) that frequently spawn masks - but only at night.

So basically you can hunt there at night, and move to DA during the day.

Agreed!
Or if you want to work on several badges at the same time...
Get a team of 6 to 8 folks that need spirit masks and warrior leaders or tsoo sorcerers.
hunt the many masks near DA entrance (in Talos) when it is nighttime. Then run West along the highway to the warrior/tsoo spawn points while it is daytime.

Is it the NPCs whose names begin with "E" that give you official Paragon city time? click them from time to time to help you get back to the DA gate by nightfall.

In any case, a team will help you get the badge much faster although your XP mileage may vary.

Hmm... I have certainly seen Masks in Talos, but not enough that I wanted to hunt them there. I'll have to investigate more. I expect to post on this in a day or two.

Strigia Isle: Sadly, I spent about 1/2 hr here looking for masks and didn't find a single one. Maybe it's a day/night thing here too, but I searched the Maw, Bonny Morass, and the Bog extensively, since there were lots of BP there, but nope, no masks.

During the day there are basically zero mask spawns. The only masks you'll see during the day are ones that spawned just before sunrise and haven't been killed or despawned yet.

It's pretty decent at night. I suspect that being in a large team may cause more frequent mask spawns since the zone spawns are dynamic.

The grassy area near the DA gate doesn't seem to have many masks even at night - it's up on the roads around the large buildings where they really appear.

If you have a team of 3 or more they are abundant during the night near the buildings at the DA entrance (Talos side). They spawn very frequently too... much more than in DA. Once it gets daylight head to DA and check all of your spawn points and when the fog starts to get an orange tint, then head back to Talos. Getting a team in my experience is the best way to get more mask spawns though.

Or better yet, do the masks near the DA gate at night and DE emanators just north of the gate during the day. Two of the harder kill X badges. Make sure you bring mez protection for the DE (or be high enough level that you don't care)

I can vouch for three indeed being the lucky number for team size if you hunt masks in Talos during nights.

With three in the team, there would be a mask in almost every single spawn.

Once I got invited to a team of two while I was hunting by myself. The team were in another zone, about to enter another mission. Just as I typed "omw" I noticed a sudden surge in mask spawns. Too bad the sky was already bright.

Another time, I was in a team of three, all of us were hunting masks. All the sudden I noticed a sharp drop in the number of masks spawned. I was like, darn, so it wasn't the team size after all. Then I realized that one of us lost connection.

I was working on this badge for months and finally got the last quarter bar by teaming with 2-3 other people the other night. As soon as I joined the team, the spawn rate seemed to quarduple and I typically saw 2-3 masks at a time in the area of my view where I was lucky to fine 1 before. This is also a better way then doing it solo since often times other people are tying to do the same thing in that small area of Talos and kill stealing can be a real problem. Having multipe people get credit for one kill is just more satisfying to me.

Wow, my little guide made it into the Guide to Guides list? I feel like I need to improve it now.

Talos - I reviewed Talos island to see if I had indeed missed the biggest non-mission hunting ground for Masks. I have been doing all of my street mask hunting solo. IMO, if you do hunt solo, DA is a better place to go. People's claims that Talos is better in groups may be true, as there are quite a few spawns there, but I don't know.

Because the BP only spawn in Talos at night it can be a pain hunting there. I don't believe there's a slash command to get Paragon time, and finding a pedestrian with an F name (click on one and they will give you Paragon time) can be a hassle. I found actually watching the sun's position to be a better way to tell when night was coming. The added hassle of only being able to hunt 1/2 the time can make it less enjoyable. You can certaily run back and forth between DA and Talos though. I found this to be helpful in keeping it from getting too boring.

People also mentioned getting DE eminator, Warrior boss, and Tsoo sorcerer badges during the day. My opinion on this is DE are around through enough of the game (all the way through lvl 50) that you don't need to really work on getting their eminators. They will come in time so long as you kill them when they're dropped. They and the Warrior Bosses do not give accolades, so I am not as interested. Tsoo sorcerers though would be a valuable diversion during the day if your build is decent for killing them. They are part of an Accolade.

Talos spawn locations - I will not post the exact coordinates because it's easier to describe verbally. There is a set of office buildings near the DA entrance (a little West and on higher ground than the entrance). The spawn points are there, throughout the paved area and up the road (going West) over the first bridge to the first small island. Spawns do not seem to occur more than about 5-10 feet off the road both on the island or near the office buildings.

I got my mask badge for my main BTW, so I will likely not do much more research on this. Good luck to you all.

I have always hunted in Talos too. If they ever do another event like Halloween, it is great because the sun never comes up, you can get your badge very quickly if you have SS or SJ and all keep circling the area.

As far as eminators go well it depends on your AT whether you need to hunt them or not. Controllers or anyone who can alpha blast them may not see many eminators on mission because they prevent them from ever spawning.

Warrior bosses are a pain because it is very seldom you will see more than a few up at one time. Sorcerers on the other hand spawn like rats.

The last mission in the Wheel of Destruction Arc is a great place to get spirits.

Got most of our badge farming it with only a pair.

In case anyone is still looking at this guide:

There are plenty of masks in the Bloody Bay PVP zone. If you go in a good size group (3-4 or more) the PVPers aren't that threatening IME.

Yes Bloody Bay is where I got my Mask badge.

I wanted to chime in my two cents worth here as well.

Here are a couple of things for you to consider.

One is that as of one of the recent patch updates the masks that spawn during the high-level outdoor mission are going to count now. If you ask me which of the notes I read that in you're going to put me in a coma - but if it's really important to you I can go look it up again.

The second note for you is this. I did BP masks in DA as a 30 tanker and found about 9-10 spawn points that I used. They were all in fairly close proximity to each other. I started at these locations (taken from WarCry)

In Dark Astoria: Small park at Loc (355, 0, 4150), and several small spawns near the basketball courts at (4780, 0, 2525) use /loc to find your place on the map.

Once I got to these two places I started circling out farther and farther and swinging back every few mins. I never had trouble finding masks.

One thing I noticed is that if there were mobs at a given spot but no masks, I'd take out the mob and come back and there'd be a mask there. I'm not sure about this but sometimes I didn't do this and they'd respawn a bit later with masks. I just got impatient and hit the mobs anyway. If I could see a totem boss I'd skip the mob - they rarely spawned with totems in the mob - also - I never found a mask in a larger mob - usually mobs with less than 5 baddies.

Hope that helps ya.

There are masks spawning around the beaches of Potter's Field in Sharkhead Isle now, too.

I found alot of masks in the Dark Astoria Cemetary.

Whew its been a while since I looked at this one. Nice work ppl on the updates. Bloody bay and Shark didn't exist when I wrote this.

If you can deal with the risks of PvP - Bloody Bay (N of the villain base in the
forest and along that coast) spawns quite a few of them.

These days, with the zone nearly empty most times, it's probably one of the
quickest places to get that badge (at least, it has been for me).
