what is in a name?
Blood Wolffe
well, first a mortally wounded wolf fused its spirit with him. (wrote a story about it, you cant make some heroes=shameless plug )
I think I couldnt get wolf so I made it wolf, not sure though, so I adapted the story, since he is part human, part wolf I gave him the name wolffe, kinda human, kinda animal. Wolf Blitzer was considered, but he would be a joke then.
Blood just sounds cool, its one of my favorite words, it has impact, gets attention, and his costume is red.
What I want to know is whats the story with COW god?
Lotus On Water - Lotus's given name is "Hasukazu" ("Hasuo" is her nickname), which means "Lotus (on) Water." Her hero name is her name, really...
Dollhouse picked her name as a reference to her small stature, her rather chunky figure, and, well...she's a tanker.
Belladonna was a young martial monk named "Dawnflower", a member of a small clan of pre-industrial people living in a place far, far away from Paragon city. When her people were destroyed by nomadic raiders, she was "saved" from a suicidal attack on the killers when an evil mastermind (cue: Phantom-esque organ music) bequeathed her potent but dire magical powers to augement her fighting skills. She single-handedly destroyed the raiders, but very nearly lost her soul, spending many long years in the service of her benefactor. She chose her name as a reflection of what she had become, a darker, poisonous sort of "flower." Yet belladonna can be medicinal, and she hopes for redemption, fighting to be part of Paragon City's "cure."
Others to follow...I've way, way too many alts!
"And in this moment, I will not run.
It is my place to stand.
We few shall carry hope
Within our bloodied hands."
Ziu: Alternate name for the Norse god of war Tyr. My brother used the name because he has his own personal war going against Crey industries.
Hermod: Name of the Norse messenger god. I picked it because in Hermod's (the god) story he went to hell to save his brother Balder. Hermod's (the hero) story is he trying to save his close friend (Ziu substutes for Balder) from being killed by Crey (in place of hell). It also gives abit of unity between the 2 heroes.
Heat-Strom: His power is to release heat and electritcy. I wanted a name to sum up how the 2 powers work together and came up with the idea of heat lighting, the name was taken so I modified it.
Ghost Sentry: I was combining random words from a list and liked this one.
MindMaster is the manifestation of a teenage comic-book fan's mutant psionic energy. That teenage boy's powers have formed themselves as a cheesy, silver-age style hero... being the master of psionics, he is the MindMaster.
Lytus is the character's given name.
Spirit Liger's name comes from the fact that he shares his body with the spirit of a liger.
Trollkin Hacker was Hacker's position within the Trolls. Just as there are Trollkin Bruisers and Trollkin Gunners, he hacked things with his sword, hence Trollkin Hacker.
Omega Ranger inherited his powers from the previous Omega Ranger... he is a bad Japanese superhero knock-off, which is why I named him as I did.
Stateslad is my vision of what Superboy would be if he was in the City of Heroes universe. Instead of being cloned from Superman, DCs premiere hero, he was cloned from Statesman, Paragon City's premiere hero. I would have called him Statesboy, but it was already taken on Virtue.
Sourei is Japanese for Poltergeist, an old code-name for the character. Her being Japanese, I feel the Japanese version fits her better.
Destiny Knight: He is from a future Paragon City and Lady Destiny is the Lady in charge of the zone where he grew up and trained. He was dubbed a knight and tasked to go back an prepare Paragon City for the cataclysm that led to his time. ((If you're really curious I can give you the full story of his future setting.))
Kinematics: He's a mutant that slowly, but surely realized that Newton's Laws of Physics didn't apply to him and that he could extend that influence into the world around him. The name just fit naturally. (I didn't go with Grav Control for him because Black Holes and such get more in Einstein's and Hawkings' style of physics.)
Thermodyne: He was a coolant systems engineer. He was experimenting with a new coolant and was accidently exposed to it. It didn't do anything immediately, but over time, he kept noticing that frost would form on his arms. Further investigation showed that he was drawing the heat from the air around him at such an elevated rate that it was super cooling. A short time later, he was shocked when his hands became wreathed in fire. Apparantly, the heat had to exit his body. He had become a living coolant loop. (Hence, why he's a Ice/Fire Tanker )
These are the more interesting stories.
My scrapper I named because of her backstory. The long and short of it is that a confidant was murdered and it drove her to extend her claws for the first time ever...Shi means "death" in Japanese as far as I know, and Noire means "black" in French AFAIK ( I thought it meant night ). I wanted something macabre without being obvious, so I went to foreign languages.
Nuur'Zae is nothing...just a combination of letters that is fairly genderless ( unlike a name ending in 'na, 'ina, 'ette, 'ine et al ) and I thought the apostrophe lent an exotic flair to it.
Minion: A story I wrote when I was in high school. it kept growing, wrote some comic issues. looked into getting it published (never got off the ground). I've held onto the concept all these years, my friend and I even filed copyright papers for a few concepts of different characters (and we have some poorman's copywrites in a drawer somewhere). He's my character in all RPGs I play that I can customize a character to the correct extent and I even made a custome Heroclix of him. So I'm VERY attached to Minion and I'm happy I was able to reserve the name from Beta
Trouble Shooter is from the West End Games RPG "Paranoia" some fun stuff.
Alcatraz - I was amazed I got this name, but he's a Stone/Stone tanker, the name just seems appropriate.
Mega-Ton, Life Blood and Caretaker - these are support characters for Minion, so I had to make them too.
Extreme Duress (Inv/SS Tank) I just liked the name, and the costume came out cool, so I kept him
Major Poser (Claws/Regen): When all the clones were happening, before the lawsuit, I build a character that was a mish-mash of all the Marvel clones I saw. After the lawsuit, I e-mails Cryptic to see if he was OK. to make a long story short, I was told as long as I did not mention marvel in my bio or join any marvel SGs, it was ok. so I'm just going to keep him to goof on all the clones
When I can think of others, I'll edit this and add on.
Forgot a good one of mine. Atheum, he was a warrior who challenged the god of war and lost, sent to the underworld, and in exchange for all his power he was allowed to return. I was playing around with the word atheism until I got a name.
Easter isn't her real name (she thinks her real name sucks ), but a teasing nickname a former boyfriend gave her. She's relatively tall (6'1"-6'2"), and he'd never been with a woman who was that tall...he said she reminded him of the statues on Easter Island. The name stuck.
The original London Fog was a hero from before the Rikti War. He carried himself with honor during the war, and had been selected to join Omega Team for their crucial strike. Unfortunately, he suffered injuries in a minor skirmish shortly before the mission was to have launched, and was forced to sit it out. The shame and feeling of failure ate away at him, and just recently it became entirely too much to bear; his mystic medallion couldn't protect him from the .35 bullet when it was locked in a drawer. Now his son carries the mysterious amulet and bears the name London Fogg in the hopes of redeeming his father's good name.
The Dark Atlantean is a newcomer to Paragon City. She came here from the Atlantean outpost of Casterborous (located btwn Paragon City & Striga Isle) at the behest of her matrons; they wanted to see what had become of the world of man since their willful withdrawal from it. She draws her magickal powers from the Rift, an unusual trench not far from the capitol city of Atlantis; legend has it that this was once the canyon on the surface that held the entrance to Hades' Underworld. She sees herself as a sort of diplomatic envoy to the surface world, trying to make a good impression on the surface dwellers in preparation for some normalization of relations between the 2 powers.
Well, he's a mime, and he fights.
Steven Kasper is his given name. He hasn't seen any reason to adopt a nickname, because he honestly doesn't want to stand out amongst anyone. He'd chuck it all to be a normal high school student, but seeing as he goes to classes on Talos Island, that's a lot easier said than done. More often than not, he has to use his powers in or between classes to help others.
"Your voice holds the key to your society
Expose the ones that want to **** it up for you and me
No more of settling for what they feed
The time has come to put the pressure up against the greed"
- Senser, "Resistance Now"

how did your char get his/her name? did they do somthing great? is it a attribute that they have? or is it their real name?

Blazing Embers got his name because he wasn't a hero. He likes to burn what he sees and he leaves it in ashes. Here's his backstory. You can read more at Alliance of Champions Website:
Name: Jonathon James Huff
Nicknames: Jon, JJ
Known Aliases: Blaze, Johnny Blaze, Night Blaze, JJ Blaze, Bradley Blaze, Elijah Embers, Thomas Tinders, Scott Sparks, Patric Pyre, Fred Flare, Ignacious Inferno
Time served: 15 years sentenced, 12 years served - Brickstown, The Zigguruat, Maximum Security Lockdown.
Hometown: Brickstown
Backstory: I live and breathe fire. To be honest, I'm not a bad guy and lately I've been running the hero gig. In the old days the police labelled my kind as Arsonists, but the Heros, they knew better. Pyromaniac is what they call our breed of terrorists. While the Arsonists were off planning their next revenge, we were already setting things ablaze. Me? I like to watch the fire dance reglardless of the consequences afterwards. These days I help stop others from committing crimes, ironic isn't it? Perhaps it's just my way to repent for the sins of my past (or perhaps it is just the agreement I signed with the Paragon police department for my early parole). Eventually my past will catch up with me as it does with us all and my number will be up but until then, I'm just trying to be a hero.
Susie-Bot: Giant robot, built by a little girl named Susie. Hence, Susie-Bot.
Totally Awesome: Hero from the 80s. When she first used her powers, someone cried "That was Totally Awesome!" Viola, instant nickname.
Wizecrack: Spelled badly because of the stupid "title" rules for naming. Is a comedian, runs his mouth, hence the name.
Green Haunt: A victim of my naming rules, namely:
1.) Try a word. (Ghost)
2.) If taken, hit the Thesaurus. (Haunt)
3.) If taken, try a title (Mr. Haunt, Captain Haunt)
4.) If those bite, modify with color (Green Haunt)
Le Loup: A recent creation, Le Loup is French. Was going to be Le Renard, but that was taken (curse you, Le Renard!) Translated to English, he is merely "The Wolf", which is a perfectly bland, acceptable hero name.
Letters.
Sorry, on topic now.
Project 52-X got his name because he has no memories of his past. The only means of identifying himself is the barcode on the back of his neck that says 52-X underneath it.
Laser Jesus took his name from his actual name, Jesus Lacieras. (In reality I chose it as my name because in my SG we somehow got into a discussion about our names in real life and my SG leader bursted out "HIS NAME IS LASER JESUS!" and I decided I needed to have a character named that.)
well, as for the story of CoW-gOd (cowgod as it appears in COH) is that all of his followers were killed during the Rikti invasion (there wasn't very many). at this point he was only known as a higher being and not "cowgod" so he came to earth and decided to take the form of a human so he may seek revenge. however he needed somthing to distinguish himself from other humans, so he decided to add a little somthing extra in. and he studyed the cow and decided that he liked the cow. so he mixed his human form with a cow, and thus began cowgod.
Then after he got his revenge he realized that this world needs him, he decided to create an army of cow warriors and a new cow race to keep paragon city from danger.
and if you were wondering how i came up with cow god, it was an old high school nick name (and how i got that is a LONG story)
Point.Blank is a fire/fire blaster. Fire sword circle and combustion are two of the powers I use most, so he's sort of named after his fighting style.
Same, more or less, with Stryk. He's the sort of guy who doesn't give a damn about all the showmanship and reputation nonsense of regular heroing, so he goes just by this short little tag. No badges, no titles. Just Stryk.
Arthropoda awoke as a normal guy but with no memory of himself and no identity. Then over the course of a week he underwent an agonizing mutation transforming him into something more insect than human. Hence, named after the phylum.
With Swordstroke I was going for something a little more classic comic-book style and thier names are all pretty self-referential (e.g. Batman, Superman, the Flash, Green Lantern, et cetera). Since he hacks [censored] with a broadsword, he's the Swordstroke.
Wisdom.
The original intended name was Fjolsvior - an Old Norse word meaning very wise, that was attributed to and used as an alias of, the Scandinavian god Odin.
But I felt that a superhero should have something simple.
So I decided on Wisdom.
Lascivus
If you read my in game bio sometime you see her fiance left her at the alter on her wedding day for another woman. Some bad things happened to her and she reinvented herself as a superhero. Her fiance left her out of lust for another woman...hence the name Lascivus. Check your Latin dictionaries should be there somewhere.
Belle 50 Empathy/Energy
Teensy 50 TA/A
KickerBelle 50 MA/SR
@Belle, always and forever
Well, let's see... I haven't done much RP in CoH, but I like thinking of good names.
The Machinst: Hiding his real name from those who would oppose him, he uses technology and gadgets to fight crime and keep the city safe. (Why did no one tell me I'd spelld his name wrong until he was level 24?) [Champion, Elec/Dev blaster]
Vidnur Tofa: Old Norse for "wind fox". (Or so my bad translation says.) He's a foxish flying claws scrapper. Hard to do "fox" with the character generator, but this was my try. (I've now seen better.) I've had several more detailed stories for him, and can't decide which I like better. Is he a messenger from the Spirit Of The Fox, or a human who was rescued by some fox-god? Don't know yet. [Guardian, Claws/SR scrapper]
Tyr Ilar: A doctor who lost his family in the Rikti invasion, but discovered that he could heal others, becoming a hero to try and make something of his now-empty life. The name came to him in a dream, Tyr being the old god of justice. He's not sure what Ilar is yet either. [Protector, Empath/Energy defender.]
Ward Ohm: A hybrid tiger/human, augmented with all sorts of doodads, he escaped from a mad scientist's lab having only a number, and nowhere to go. He heard that strange people were more accepted in Paragon City and made his way there, to try and make something positive of himself. After getting arrested for sleeping in the train stations, he was handed over to the City Rep, who helped him become an official hero, and to think of a name for himself. He didn't understand why the Rep kept grinning about it, but it describes his power set. [Protector, FF/Electric defender]
I have a bunch of other alts, but those are the ones I liked. I have a tanker on Virtue who I liked, and wanted to RP, but who's name I can't remember.
I'm such a geek. Some of my heroes have journals.
Techno-Paladin: I thought it would be cool to do a knightly costume in a high-tech style. Hence the name, Techno-Paladin.
Herr Automaton: It's German. He's a cyborg. Hence, Herr Automaton.
WOLVES AND BEES 2012
Zeroth: Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics
simple.
Inertial: Energy/Energy Blaster, he wears a suit made of synthetic fibers fused with millions of nanites to create a flexible wearable superconductor that channels the ambient energy that propagates electromagnetic waves into focused bolts kinetic/electromagnetic energy. In theory a inertial conduit
Tenma's backstory could be a novel, so I will attempt to condense it as much as possible.
There will be no linguistic flair here, just the facts.
Tenma's first memory was waking on a stone tablet, in Orenbega, surrounded by Circle of Thorns Mages. He had been summoned, from Hell. Something went wrong in the summoning, and he was badly wounded... missing his entire right arm, most of his left, and his jaw was nearly destroyed.
The mages had been attempting to summon a High Demon, and had done so, but screwed up the actual transference. They fled, and left Tenma to fend for himself.
The Mages had been in negotiations with the Freakshow... because the Freaks naievely thought they could gain Magic abilities from a pact with the CoT (Actual story arc, in case you didn't know). The Mages had sacrificed about 5 Freaks, who were scattered around the Tablet. Tenma managed to stand, and he could see the portal at the end of the tablet was still active.
Knowing - somehow - that he couldn't return through that portal without a 'prize', he kicked a Freak Tank through first, and jumped in.
However, the constant electric discharge of the Freak disrupted the portal, and cast both the Freak and Tenma back in time, rather than through dimensions.
Travelling through time and space, Tenma arrived in a grove, in Fuedal Japan. A woman picking lotus blossoms saw him arrive, and fled back to the village, where she alerted the Samurai who had taken shelter in a local monastery. The Samurai were being systematically hunted, and eliminated, by the new Western-inspired Japanese regime. They were in hiding, but were sworn protectors, even still.
The Samurai Master took his men to the woods, where he found Tenma, horribly wounded, and the dead Freak Tanker. Rather than finishing the Demon off, they took him back to the Monastery. The Samurai Master saw something in the Demon's eyes, and could not bring himself to end it's life.
Back in the Monastery, Tenma began to regenerate, slightly. He stayed, hidden in there, for many years... slowly learning to speak Japanese, and even English, always under the Master's watchful eye.
Tenma even managed to salvage parts from the Freak Tank, to use himself. He was able to graft himself with a fully functional right arm, and use the cybernetics to repair his left arm as well.
After many years, as the Master grew old, he decided to teach the Demon the ways of the Samurai. Recognizing that this Demon was eternal, it was a way to pass on the Samurai code for all time.
Having fought Demons in the past, the Samurai master had - at some point - come across a sword (once wielded by a demon) that no human could use. It would consume their mind, and control them in terrible ways. The Master presented the sword to the Demon, hoping for the best. Tenma was able to wield it, communicate with it, but not be controlled by it.
So, Tenma was named: Sebuta Tenma, or Demon Blade. The Samurai called him 'Tenma' for short. The Sword, too, had a name... Sebuta Oni.
The Demon practiced swordplay, with the samurai, for many years. Finally, as the Master approached his natural end, Tenma was asked to watch over the village.
The Master died, the remaining Samurai scattered throughout the land, becoming Ronin. Tenma remained, true to his word, to watch over the peaceful village, from the secluded Monastery.
He continued to train there, and assist the Villagers (unbeknownst to them) for centuries.
5 Years ago, word came to the Village of an Alien invasion in America. Tenma became fascinated, and took as much information as he could. He found out about Paragon City, the City of Heroes... he found out about the many villains, including the Circle of Thorns.
Quickly becoming obsessed with more knowledge of the Circle, he broke his oath to the Master, and travelled to Paragon...
Nothing was more important, to a Samurai, than his own past. Tenma knew the Master would forgive him this transgression... he had faithfully watched over the village for hundreds of years, and now had a chance to find out about his own past.
He travelled to Paragon, and has been fighting evil on the streets ever since.
Marshal Mortis was named by witnesses shortly after his first appearance.. he was a shadowy form that grew more active and more powerful as the first 13 U.S. Marshals dies off after thier appointement by the Judiciary act of 1789 (I think the year is right.. dont have my account handy atm)
Doc Pyramid encountered the archaic device that transformed him from a mortal to an embodiment of the desert : Searing heat (firey aura) freezing cold (ice melee) desert winds (riding them with superjump) and Everpresent sands (earth mastery APP) while he was exploring an obscure Egyptian pyramid.
Come to Justice server and say hey! I have the good backgrounds written there.
(i had no idea where to put this but RP is the closest thing)
how did your char get his/her name? did they do somthing great? is it a attribute that they have? or is it their real name?
if the name means somthing deeper then appears, tell us.
tell us the amazing story of your heroes name.
