Guild to getting yourself a forum avatar
Great guide. Avatar test.
Testing...
Eureka! It works! *dances in street*
great this is the first time ive ever had an avatar that i actually made myself as opposed to finding one online already
i would a pic of my hero but the servers are down today for maint.
This is such a good thread I thought it'd be helpful to see it on the first page of threads again.
how about the animated ones. how do you get those to work? can you host those thru imageshack? and lastly, what program/programs can you dl to help you edit the size and length of the video image.
Cheers folks, I haven't checked this thread in a while, but it is nice to see it's still helping.
Animated Gifs can be stored in photobucket or imageshack just as other images can, as to how to make them... I have no idea, I did have a thread that explained it bookmarked, but I can't find it now..
BTW: I love looking at all the cool Avatars you folks come up with, and thinking "he/she can have that because of something I wrote, damn thats cool". Thanks
Need this as a favorite, and thx from us noobs.
ok i am ressurecting this ancient thread becasue there is a new issue that has arisen regarding this issue. I am no newbie (yeah i wish) and i have worked with these forums before and i have an avatar (if you didnt notice) but recently, when i have tried to change it, it told me that there was a security problem and that i keep getting this weaird /changbasic.php thing plus it wont let me upload anything new.
Please help
Okay. I have a question...
The avatar image I have is 60x60, and I see others have images that are less than 80x80. However, when I link mine, it's forcing it to 80x80, even though the original is smaller.
How do I prevent that? How can I keep it 60x60?

You make the canvas size for the image 80 by 80, center the 60 by 60 image within it, and then make the surrounding canvas space transparent. Procedure will vary by program used to do the editing.
As an example, I used The Soviet (er, Russian) ambasdor as my AV on the CoV beta boards, and used transparent space to preserve the aspect ratio of the animation.

Blech. The image is animated... I'll have to do it frame-by-frame.
Also, I see plenty of others that when I click properties are 60x60 in their properties... clearly, there's a way to keep it from auto-expanding or these others wouldn't.

There are programs that will do the whole animation for you I believe. I think I used a free Trial of Ulead Gif Animator to do my resizing, but my trial is expired, so I cant check now.

I gotta give you credit, Dysmal. ULean REALLY worked. It resized it from 60x60 to 80x80 without any image loss.
Thanks a lot. I owe ya one.

Take out the [IMG] tags and just use the direct http:// linkage Basically use the link on image shack that says DIRECT Link. The code using the [IMG] tag is for forums who can actually display images within the body of posts (we cannot) that's what it's being spit back.
can you help me unsquish my Avatar
I have tried a number of the upload options, none are working....
pretty please?
I like you Avatar just fine, so I take it you worked out the squishing thing....
Actually I just like wolves.... go little doggy, go!!
Nice guide man! One of the best avatar guides yet! 5 Stars for you!
Been putting this off for months. Don't know why, it was almost completely painless... almost. After some "user error" everything worked out ok though. Thanks man!
