An alternate RP server?

I don't know if the problems I'm having with Virtue are the same as anyone else's (warping backwards and lag) but I suggest an alternate RP server for those that don't want to deal with Virtue's overpopulation.

I knew this was going to happen. Lots of RPers in this game and I knew one server wouldn't be enough + all the other people that joined it.

It's been suggested several times already, and no one really seemed to like the idea (in fact it pretty much got rejected...). This is the problem when gaming companies don't have the foresight to go ahead and label a few servers the "official" role playing server. Most people that come to play MMORPG's don't want to or care to RP, just play. Unfortunately hindsight is 20/20.

It would have been easier if they went ahead and said "Okay, server X and Y are the official roleplaying servers" instead of scattering those that want to roleplay to the winds. There are a lot of people that never go to forums to even check for such a thing.

Exactly!

Personally, I think they should have realized that there would be a huge RP crowd for this game and made at least ONE official RP server...ah well, maybe later.

I don't have any problems on virtue, and I am an east coast player. I hope your issues get resolved so that you can join the community, its a real nice group of people.

In any case, you can find RP anywhere, and most people, even so-called non RPers will RP with you if you take the first step.

At least that's my experiance,

Youre a lucky man then, i RP wherever i go to hear nothin but afk, wife says i gotta do this an that, I have truly oonly ever met 1 other RPer on Virtue which is truly sad!

Virtue's problems are not related to overpopulation. The server load is balanced roughly evenly across all servers. This has been confirmed by the developers. (I find myself repeating this a lot these days. )

I have a great deal of faith that Cryptic will track down the problem and squash it. Given that, and the fact that I already have several characters I really like and have invested time into on Virtue -- as do many others, I'm sure -- most of us would rather not move and start over.

I have (sadly) been on Virtue most of the day, spending a significant amount of time in the following zones: Atlas Park, Galaxy City, Kings Row, Perez Park, Steel Canyon, and Skyway City.

Not once did I notice any kind of rubber-banding or lag issues, nor did I see any complaints from anyone in my group. I'm honestly surprised to come on here and see comments regarding lag or overpopulation. Why does everyone keep saying the server is overpopulated? I never see abnormal crowds, more than a few instances of certain zones, or have problems finding villains to get smacked around by. Nor was I ever disconnected from the game.

If the server was having problems, I'd expect everyone to be having problems. When only certain people are having problems, doesn't that make you wonder if maybe the problem is elsewhere?

Please don’t take any of this as a slam. It’s just that I feel that some people are waiting for performance issues to correct themselves, and I can’t help but get the feeling you’re setting yourself up to be disappointed. For the sake of argument, consider for a moment that the problems are not on Cryptic’s end. What exactly are you expecting them to do to make the problems you’re seeing go away? Lean on your ISP to get them to check their service? Convince hackers to stop writing worms that kill net performance?

I think it's worth mentioning that if enough Virtue folk agree to make toons on another, specific server en masse (for reasons varying from server lag, overpopulation or just severe altitis and no more slots), that a second roleplaying server would simply spawn naturally from the spike in roleplayer population. Anyone interested could pick a server, make some toons, keep in touch, spread the word and bingo, secondary defacto RP server.

I'd mark myself as interested because I have a thing for alts and am quickly running out of slots. I generally like the crowd on Virtue and wouldn't mind another place where I could count on finding decent roleplay for another dozen toons or so.

Also, Virtue is an unofficial RP server, which means the players made it that way.

All you need to do to make a secondary unofficial RP server is to choose a server, and then start talking in broadcast in ((OOC marks)) or something. Make it obvious that there are RPers on the server, and the others will slowly begin to creep out of the shadows. :3

Remember, there are no -official- RP servers. It's up to the players to decide.

Honestly, I've been unimpressed with Virtue as a true "RP" server. I tried it and moved on. I now have chars in a 6 all RP VG coalition on Protector (one being my own) and have seen more real deep character driven/character motivation story-making "role-playing" there than anywhere. There's my 2 cents, don't spend them all in one place.

I've toons in several themed RP SGs on Protector, in RP-heavy groups on Pinnacle, and evey one of my 24 toons on Triumph ("the stealth RP server) is heavily RP-focused, most in RP-oriented SG/VGs. Lots of non-Virtue options out there...

Sadly enough when I first bought the game, I forgot to check too see which server was the RP server, but when I built my charactor on Champion, I had already gotten him around 20-30, and didn't want to start over, but I still supported him through an RP theme and I am still looking for a RP Coalition to merge my supergroup with.

I dont know if Champion has alot of rper's or no rper's but if we absolutely are trying to make another "Unofficial RP Server" we could start there, I have a supergroup base thats built soley for looks and an rp type theme, It's just rather difficult for me to find any real roleplayers than want to pop out of the corner, I've talked with a couple that say they roleplay, but I guess to get another RP server out there, someones gotta rally the populace, if anyone is interested in helping me out, let me know.

My toon on Champion is Zackreaver, I'm a villain.

I play in Virtue and always wondered. I know it's the "unofficial" RP server but what would happen if the devs announced that it was now the "official" RP server. Always wondered about that.

Virtue has way too many idiots nowdays, because it's a high-traffic server - a lot of that happened Villianside, because people didnt want to join freedom and joined Virtue. Villianside, I have a huge problem finding any toons to roleplay with, ever. And am simply swarmed with doomsday blind invites.

If a small coalition were to get together and start a RP server on like, Triumph, Infinity, I'd be there and rolling up a new toon and so would my g/f and my buddy. Virute's population type has gone down... or maybe it's simply that with more people there I notice the idiot population more.

But I have a habit of checking bios on everyone I pass, and I'd say maybe 1/100 have a bio that's not a sentance like "bad [censored] mother censored"

Triumph has a lot less players in general, but the proportion of idiots is about the same.

Now stop resurrecting old threads already.

Whole slew of idiots trying to piss RPers off just by making that their home and constantly spewing off anti-RP propoganda.
Y'know, same thing that happens in World of Warcraft.

I've got a new Stalker I'm playing around with, as well as a new MM. Feel free to whisper/friend Desultory (the Stalker) or Walter Redd (the MM) anytime I'm on. They're in their teens, though, so if that's too low to you, I also have a 32 MM, Kairaishi.

There's a small coalition on Protector, much to my chagrin. You could prolly talk to @EssexS6 or @Hallucinogen about it, they're pretty much the heads of it.

It's like that on every server, unfortunately. Virtue's the unofficial RP server, but with the good comes the bad. In Virtue's case, it has a lot of good, and an equal amount of bad.
Just...stay away from Pocket D and the "Mature RPers".

To be fair, most RPers prefer sentence-length bios or no bios at all.
Beats me as to why.

It might also be worth mentioning, that by 'Mature RPers,' he doesn't mean that they are good RPers, with great stories and such...

The other thing I have noticed about dedicated RP servers is a lot of the people who only care about PvP join them thinking the RP'ers are easy targets. For the most part many (not all) of them are and they will never RP.

I vote that we the players bug the devs to make Virtue an OFFICIAL RP server... make it announced IN GAME so people know. But I suggest we bug the devs for this AFTER they get server transfers up and running.

That way they can warn people to transfer off the server, and RPers will have the chance to transfer ON to the server. Then anyone making a new character will be affronted with some kind of message warning them that this server is an RP server.

It doesn't need to be ENFORCED so much as just warned... some people will listen, but not all of them. Better than what we have anyway.
