    2011 FArt battle

I'd like to submit a change to the rules. Instead of doing eliminations at all just do a point system. participating each month gets you a point getting voted top 1, 2, or 3 gets you additional points. whoever gets the most points at the end of the year gets whatever in game prize you have. that way there is no stress and lots of art each month. But it's all up to you. It would also make for a closer and exciting race at the end of the year as several people could be vying for the top position rather than just two.

just my two inf. Good luck bubba.
  2. caem...you get the perv title because foo has only been back for a little bit. And you make it easy :P perhaps we should have an election of some sort...

anyway. great stuff so far talley, hope to see a lot more soon.

    welcome welcome again

    Happy New Year!

I'll second the motion for the new years babe over baby and begin the vote.

All in favor of replacing new years baby with new years babe say Aye.

    Aye!
  4. hey alex welcome back.

Some leave...but they always come back...they can never have enough.

    Mwahhahahah
  5. huzzah...these threads are great. It's probably good that you didn't ask for character requests, that seems to bog the artist down. Not that I don't appreciate those but it seems after a couple weeks they can't find the motivation anymore. Good luck.

    patiently watching,
    Roxy

I hate to drag the discussion away. But this is completely counter to WW quote about weather for the sake of weather. So given that, the dustdevil must have a purpose and you are holding out on us NS! Or worse he's directing us away from the true meaning of the dustdevil. It's bound to be a plot, but by who? Nemisis? Protean? E. Cole? Or the most devious Villain of all...T.V. (dun dun dunnnn)

    Now my Forumites POSTULATE!
  7. alright alright you can use PB :P

feel free to update her foliage to something more 'seasonal'
  8. I'm pretty sure we've had some cheeky posts on here before i don't think they got modded, though i suppose each image is a different case so you could always ask.
  9. aw man the forum monster ate my post.

the jist, welcome to the boards, you'll meet caemgen soon, comment about dirty minds, request for deviant art page or similar for us to drool over.

humble request for sketch of any interesting character you find in my album in my sig. much appreciate sketch of "mains" little sister or Plutonium Bloom.

    welcome again!
  10. Well while I apparently don't keep my computer very neat, I do keep my inbox clean so I was able to go back and find originals of all but one piece. That bein' one that was never e-mailed to me a chibi of MilkShakes (now Milk Shakes on virtue) done by imagesbyalex.
  11. Best of luck Castle, I hope you can pop by at some point and tell us where you've ended up. Have a happy new year.
  12. khel makes a valid point. so to get this thread back on topic. Caem was nice enough (incredibly nice enough) to gift me some art. I was going to go collect all my art and post it in a little thread, but ... I can't find it anymore I had a little folder, and now i can't find that little folder. anyway here's the piece caem had done for me.

    http://andantonius.deviantart.com/ar...loom-186361716

as you can see it's done by andantonius and is quite spectactular if i may say so myself.
  13. vexxxa you used that gif before. have we finally hit the bottom of your harddrive of gifs?

    nice improvements.
  14. So i got into a big long arguement about the virtues and flaws of COH, the map design came up so i thought i'd check and see where this thread had gone, apparently into the graveyard. That is not promising.

So to hopefully restir some thought.

We have these zones and we have named areas in them Blyde Square, the Crescent etc., but what does that really mean? Sometimes they make sense, but many you wouldn't be able to place if named. If each gets a little trinket a little flavor and a little style of it's own, by applying some of the ideas in this thread you could totally change how people look at COH. Aside from some badges what's been done with brickstown and kingrow since the game was created. What makes the crescent the crescent, how did it get that name?

There's a bit of a missed opportunity in the new explore badges. It would have been great to give some zone improvements a little extra depth with the new badges, or give the badges some depth through the zone improvements. Perhaps that opportunity is not wholly lost, perhaps some of the improvements could be built with the local badges in mind.

    No new zones

It's interesting I came here to find that very thread. I can't help but notice david hasn't posted any sort of update on that stuff, or much of anything. I'm still not sure if he was the best choice for that position. Then again he hasn't held it for long.

Anyway. there's lots of suggestions in the buildings thread about things that could be done to spruce up the zones and give them a hair more life. The changes range from simple like updating NPC garb to advanced complete redesigns of whole zones. I'll agree that a lot of good work was done in praetoria. hopefully some of that can be applied to the rest of the game in time.

Changing things here and there will go a long way to keeping people interested in the world as much as a new zone would if the effort is equal then i'd say focus on what is already there.
  16. I take it you kept the one with pants optional eh?
  17. So last night we ran a apex tf. Thought I would post some ideas and observations so and get some feedback on the "right" way to beat this thing. Well at least the first couple missions.

    Mission 1:

Kingsrow, not too many problems with this. Group fragmentation is an issue. If the team gets too spread out someone is going to bite it.

Moving into the tunnels a couple blasters with snipe are key. Dropping the pylons from afar makes that whole section 3 times easier.

The third section gave us a a bit more trouble the initial waves of clock were overwhelming. Again we started getting spread out and disorganized. Then the warwalkers came. Despite their impresssive appearance they were easier to take down than the waves of clockwork. It's very easy to say "shoot the big one" and everyone can focus on it. The little clocks are a different challenge because they can't be as easily pointed out. The final wave of walkers ended quick, we got stomped. Lack of focus little lack of preparation. Here, have someone pick a target and everyone else target through them that'll keep the focus. The orbital blast is pretty much a none issue. If you see the red ring of death move 8 feet in any direction and you are good to go. I saw a couple of our scrappers shrug this off without second thought it's really not fatal.

    Mission 2:

This one is a real challenge. The blades were on top of us the second we were through the helicopter so enter as a team. Work together and they fall down easy enough, there are a lot of them get some insps if you used them up on the walkers.

Down the stairs. Our team had some issues with timing the door. If you've got a man on the ground dead or alive ask permission to go down. If not then take a peak over the edge. The blue cloud of death is gonna do about 500 damage per second and you'll stand in it for about 8 seconds coming out of the door.

Initially BM only drops the blue cloud once at a time. Beat her down to half health and she runs. You'll be ambushed and she'll be dropping 3 blue clouds at a time. Avoiding them is easy, with sprint you can wait till the blue cloud dissipates before running and only take a single tick of damage. I do not reccomend that. Finish your attack and move on. When she respawns she'll only have half health don't waste that opportunity.

For actually killing her, ranged damage will help. Holds do not, they will not stop the blue cloud and they actually serve as a shield against melee. You'll have to move in and out. Again as with the rest of the tf you need to stick together. The closer the blue clouds spawn together the more room you have to move. Keep her moving and out of the cloud and the melee characters can keep the damage up.

We couldn't figure this out so you'll have to take the above with a grain of salt.

    Notes:

The team was made of a thousand scrappers a controller and a blaster. Not the epitome of balance which was more than likely an issue.

So thoughts experiences. I'd like to figure this out so we can give it another more successful whirl.
  18. This is something that has come up in the regen forums before and been IIRC a notable option to bring regen closer to par for other sets. To be honest I thought it had been implemented because it's such a "well duh" kinda thing.

I generally agree with the options presented. I'd be more inclined to lean the direction of adding resistances, over defences, to anything because that is already included in the powerset overall.

I've long held the belief that regen would not see any sort of buff because of the strength and severity of the debuff that came about long ago. I think we are past that era and can logically apply buffs without making regen the power house it once was and still keeping it par for the course with other scrapper secondaries. We've seen two shifts in management and a more thoughtful approach to balance. Back when the debuffs were originally applied i think there was more reactionary vibe to balance.

In all the time that regen has been debated I don't think i've yet see any power that be, like castle, chime in on regen debates at all. I think a lot of that has to do with many of the initial debates ending up in shouting matches and demands that regen be restored to it's former strength. Those types of responses are a thing of the past especially when it comes to the ideas presented in this thread, the thinkers amoung us have prevailed.

So after all that reading I'd like to say that I support this idea and hope to see it implemented soon.
  19. I'm kinda surprised that all my toons have more or less blazed through that arc, except for the scrappers. Last night I bit it 3-4 times on each EB (AV's in mission one naturally did not) except for echo of minos who i was able to steamroll. This is on me fire/fire scrapper Char Cat who is much more AOE goddess then a toe to toe fighter.

I did enjoy plowing through the pile of rikti created by the portals after finishing off Honoree. At a certain point there were so many bodies on the floor that i could no long distiguish new targets from them. The rikti blades don't lay flat when they go down. They stick up making a forest so thick you can't see through them.

I look forward to running it one more time on my last 50, a blaster. So if anyone on virtue would like to join me they are welcome I've yet to run the arc on a full team of eight.

I'd also like to round up all the AV's in the first mission and use dreadful wail on them I don't think they'll all die but I expect a full team could clean them up in short order.

    The Tin Tower

    I see it too!

seriously though you're gonna have to stop otherwise i'm gonna have to stop stalking cashoo and start following you around. And no one wants to see that right :P
  21. So it's december now. >_> who's got it?
  22. pretty sure neko had them retailored. Mel's got slightly different proportions or said clothing is extrodinarily stretchy and flatteringly so...in which case I would like them.

I've never been a proponent of weather debuffs. That would annoy me if i had to change my play habit cause it happened to be raining. That's like batman saying, "i'm gonna take the stairs cause the 'batterang hook' doesn't grip in the rain". I understand the logic but as a hero I defy weather debuffs. Weather buffs...yeah ok.

While it may be subtle a lot of the tech for switching out zone assets already exists. The one we're most familiar with is the bank vault door. There a solid and graphical asset are removed to facilitate the destruction of the door. Can you add and replace 4 seasons worth of graphical assets in a single zone? I haven't the slightest, and that specifically isn't necessary. A patch with new maps tweaked for each season. A large task sure but not as daunting as switching out thousands of assets on the fly.

Should they jump right in? ehhhh it's probably smarter to start with something simpler like just rain. And just in a mission map. Experiment with what makes and sells that idea. The winterlord missions would be a good place to play with falling snow. And snow drifts. Bonus points for "vanguard snowshoes" How fun would it be to play in snow drifts. Super jumping and landing in the snow to have your screen whiteout. Then popping back out, a hide effect while buried would be cool but stretching I think. Similarly an "umbrella" and "wet newspaper" run emotes for NPC's. There's loads of fun things to do with weather.

Well what about simple looks\ambiance\realism\feel? CoH has always been a game that was a lot about feel, and looks. One of the KEY components of CoH is the costume creator. You can create your own look with no consequences or bonuses to game play.

It's not Weather for the sake of weather, it's weather for the sake of a prettier game and happier fans.
    Agree wholeheartedly.
