  2. A question about fire dark combo.

    i know ive posted before about it but i have some more questions about it and only felt it was relevent to post a new thread regarding this.

    for instance, with darkest night running, will i need to be softcapped to any damage type, should i just get say 32% defense, pop a purple if situations get hairy?

    i can get perma hasten fine so thats not a trouble.

    i have a decent ST attack chain plus the aoe fireball is good with purples put into it.

    on one build i chose elec mastery, only because power sink seems like a lovely end healer and thunder strike is a good aoe monster with fire ball and rain of fire and fire breath.
    i took grant invisibility as a lotg set mule recharge 7.5% but it can also buff the dark servant.

    then invisibility as a set mule too, but phase shift for hairy situations incase i need to run off and heal up.

    i will post this version of the build, plz give your critique and if you can give me build advice on how to make it better, i heard fire/dark is a good soloing combo and team friendly.

    EDIT: i took the concealment set regardless because thematically it goes with my character so i do not want that changed, however i dont mind the powers i have picked to be changed or the app set, feel free to mix and match on that.

    i didnt take howling twilight bcos if im soloing it wouldnt be much use to me, but can it be activated without an ally? if so then ill take it.

    It seems like you want both the best offense and the best defense. You don't typically get the absolute best of both in the same package. If you want an intersection of both good offense and good defense, then you either have to define best intersection, or you have to decide a preference for which one is slightly more important than the other. I erred on the side of survivability and ease of play.

    If you are anything other than the two extremes mentioned later below, then you probably want Katana/Willpower. But you will need at least some IOs for at least some moderate recharge and -resistance. Kat/Wp is good on SOs. It's good leveling. It's good on moderate IOS. Eventually you can build it up with a moderately priced moderate IO build to be capable of taking down a good selection of AVs, though not all AVs, and certainly not All AVs at +4. I expect there are plenty of +4 AVs that can't be taken down solo even with Lore Pets, but the Lore Pets do make most, if not all Avs doable at +0, even on squishies.

    There are many other combinations that will fill most of your needs as well, but we would need to have some information about how you play, what kind of budget you have, if you're looking at mostly SO, Generic IO, Moderate IO, Advanced IO, or Extreme IO builds. DM/Shield, DM/Inv, Claws/SR .... lotsa combinations.

    If you're SO Only, then you may want Sword/Regen, but Sword/Willpower would be my next pick at least defensively. Regen was king beore IOs and before WP. WP on SOs is pretty equivalent to Regen. Sword typically means Katana, but Broadsword works almost as well. Please be aware few combinations solo AVs on SO only without incarnates. You may in-fact want to look at Claws/SR if you're SO only without incarntes and interested in AVs. As I recall, Claws/SR was the original AV killer back on SOs. But you'll also want to talk to people with better memories than mine if you're stuck on SOs.

    If you have an unlimited budget, multiple purple sets combined with multiple pvp sets don't even make you blink, then you may want regen. Honestly, I think 3 out of 4 high level players still pick something other than regen to spend their money on. While regen at that level may be able to stand in Battle Maiden's damage patches and laugh, I can also build 3 or 4 willpowers that are 80% to 90% as effective for the same price tag. They won't be able to laugh at Battle Maiden, but they may well survive other challenges that the regen can't, and laugh all the way to the bank while doing it.

    Note: I do not recall if any Scrappers can currently solo high level GMs without Reactive and/or Lore (But then Iggy or Nihilli probably have). I could be mistaken, but as I recall high level GMs regenerate ~350 hps, and I don't recall any scrappers that have hit ~350 dps without Reactive/Lore (I'd have to go check the pylon thread and double check the regen on GMs.). DM/Shield with Reactive and an Envenomed Dagger would likely be your best choice for that.


    tbh it doesnt even have to be a scrapper per se,any AT aslong as its capable of holding out amnd giving it back.
    i will probably scrap the regen business and go along a completely different AT because of my playstyle has changed, i used to want to jump into groups n use fire so thats my main thing right now is fire.

    io's is not a problem, money wise i dont blink so if its extreme builds then bring em on.

    so my main thing is fire right now but i also like dark miasma so might roll a corr instead, thanks for the advice guys.

    Months is nothing. We know whatever it is will not be in i21.5. I'm not expecting it in i22. I'm not expecting it to be announced until i22 is mostly done being tested if not live. That means, I'm not expecting anything, not even a heads up until something like March 2012.

    fact is is that even know this may or may not be a new set, devs will have us waiting for months if not longer till they even decide to announce it, as much as it pains me to say.

    whether this is a new set or something else will come i just want doms to get something new shiney and pretty tasty.

I also want to play as much with the games distance and Area mechanics as possible just to make the combat feel more "real" to me, so I'm trying to squeeze a lot of Aoe out of it. In addition, toku heroes tend to use martial arts a lot more than esoteric "powers" hence the "blapper" idea. All of this probably sounds very stupid but If someone could help me with putting together a decently capable blapper with this info, one that can survive long enough to kill the things around it, I'd really appreciate it.

    hey i know you said elec app but i threw in the mace mastery, depending if you wanted to stay hero or not.
    i made a build on 45% sc to s/l and the powers are pretty fun, i will tweak around with elec app and make a build for you, also i noticed you mentioned martial arts in your backstory, i threw in spring attack which is a fun power recharged down to 34 seconds, best i can do sorry.

  7. i want to have regen, i want to deal damage and survive and be able to solo fine.
    if regen is not the answer to this then plz suggest a set i will be comfortable, thank you vauluur and gavin for the info.

    EDIT: i want a set that can do everything, thats my question so to speak, that can solo mobs fine, got good damage and mitigation, the has no end problems, can solo av's and gm's and hold his own on solo content aswell as teams.

    positional defense, well again my knowledge is pretty much zilch.
    my comparison with kinetic melee, although not a very good one, was only to give some perspective and ideas.
    my thesis is that without sacrificing alot, you wont achieve alot, but then again to achieve alot some sacrifices need to be made.

    the build you had up on the first page as i said looks pretty complete and i dont think you can squeeze anymore out of it even if you spent years on it.

    but goodluck though and i hope you find a build you are conmfortable with.

    I am asking for help to anyone here who knows about regen for a brute and scrapper, is there a difference, whats better a brute regen or scrapper regen?
    i know shadow meld helps with the cycle on a scrapper between mog and smeld and barrier.
    im lookin to see what sets go good with regen for survivability, i need someone to make me a build as ive tweaked with mids all day and cant get sc to s/l at all.
    without sacrificing too much.
    its for my namesake which has been in the making for ages and cant decide thematically what sets would fit him.
    his background is that hes a god from a race which he rules.
    claws is really good on a scrapper but cant decide whether to go brute or scrapper.

    Regen Question

    Ive spoken to a number of people and althought the story varies from experience with people, i really want to know a bit more about regen, its survivability, its god mode power or tier 9 power, can defense be built into it, can i overcome alot of enemies as a brute?
    the higher hp cap means a good thing with regen, but is regen worth the namesake for me?
    i mean would any of you have regen as your namesake, i wjust want to get to the bottom of this and see if its a good set or a poor performance set.

  12. At the end of the day no matter how many people sit here and complain nothing will be done about the current situation, as much as i hate to say that yes melee AT'S have somewhat more of an important stake, at the moment.
    you see, you all sit here and make assumptions, while at best i can see their true intentions, are still only assumptions, and lets be fair, we dont know any details apart from what we can already find out now.
    Now for instance, this whole malarky about melee being a more of a concern just because they are releasing melee sets is not true.
    this is just simply a phase, ok controllers and corrupters have hard time manipulation, titan weapons and staff melee will be coming for scrappers brutes and tankers, and street justice for scrappers brutes stalkers and i believe tankers.
    my point is dont you think you all are overreacting a little?
    lets just be patient and wait and see, and to all those naysayers who strut about saying they been here so many x amount of years, i couldnt give two monkeys, Autumnal Assault and control is the new dominator set whether they like it or not i am purely adamant about this.
    And yes i have heard about people requesting for dark control dark assault, but also psychic melee, psychic armor and tbh the list goes on and on, doesnt mean it will happen.
    Realise one thing, that you might want this or want that, the ultimate truth is that you get what your given, enjoy it while its there or play the game without it, who cares.
  13. I would hav to say at a glance sonic/dark and heres my explanation.
    Sonics set has good resis debuffing powers, great for avs and gms, its dps is a quick and u can build the damage up through an attack chain if you spend enough on some really good ios, with that being said, dark has good melee too and you can again build a good attack chain with it, its to hit debuff means ull be dodging attacks often if built around that, and if I remember correctly dark m uses a pseudo controlling power, if not go for mace mastery and web cocoon to hold avs, dark even buffs ur powers like damage and to hit bonus and gives you end if ur low, if u build good enough u cud execute a good and able blapper.
    Also as a side note rad is a good defense debuffer also, so the options are available to u.

    Dark armor can built either for specific damage defense or positional, it has its own heal and res, you van get 90% res to psionics and and negative energy, softcap it, and get the end down quite a bit.
    Regen takes more money to build around and more time and effort, havin barrier and mog is its only callin card if im honest, but u can build up softcap on s/l easily and possibly energy, get good resistance aswell, I would personally go for dark but I hear lately that regen brutes are quite good now so all depends if u can plow money and time into ur character.

    is that set possible of soloing gm's and av's?

    just a thought, i know illusion is the thing since PA is an invul tanker set for 60 seconds and can be quite perma with a lot of recharge, so i was thinking poison set could actually paralyze any foe.

    anyone got any ideas how i would build such a combination?
    im stumped on mids tbh.

  19. im still adamant that autumnal is the new set, everyone is doom and gloom about this and to be quite honest it doesnt what anyone or me thinks, if devs put this set in they will put it in, so serene has a selection of powers to her will, do not forget that she has not got the FULL set and it could be be wind powers mixed in and other elemental suprises, as it is autumnal and that is the theme.
    illusion is partly psi damage so porting some powers to dark would be a bit odd, if dark was being made for doms im sure that it would have quite a fairly new set of powers maybe one or two we are familiar with.
    i personally wanna see some cosmic power something super godlike than a natural set, boring.
    thats just my opinion though, im fairly certain that this will be the new set and some people who disagree or feel they will be dissapointed should just brace themselves incase i am right.
  20. just did a peacebringer build for a concept im makin and i feel hes pretty good.
    the pros:

    1: good damage mitgation.
    2: perma essence boost
    3: perma light form!
    4: completely human form
    5: 34% defense to s/l
    6: 2 seconds away from perma inner light.
    7: perma proon seekers
    8: its a freakin peacebringer!!

    ok that last one wasnt needed lol.

    the cons:

    1: its quite expensive to kit out.
    2: no triform build.
    3: its my first peacebringer build i may have some things wrong on tis buld.


    thats all i can think of for now so anyone please have alok and give me your ideas on how i can imprve this set, i appreciate all who do many thanks, build s just below.

  22. dunno if this helps but i looked at your build, i swapped the chance to res set in gamblers cut and put it in build up and got 2 rectified reticle which bumps your lethal defense up to 44 odd%.
    the build itself looks pretty complete and i personally would change a thing, since your regen looks a bit starved, that saying, no matter how perfect you want your build with your demands, you'll never get everything crammed in, as a veteran yourself im sure you know that.

    dunno how much help ive been since as i have next to little idea on builds myself.

I built a regen km toon and his defenses are 33% s/l the rest is pretty low, but he has 3 god modes that he can circulate through, shadow meld, moment of glory and instant healing, not sure if instant healing could be considered as such but yeah, all recharge pretty good and the damage output is ok i guess, wondered if it would be a good idea to put my namesake on this particular toon just because i want him to be uber, plz have a look and let me know, i need a toon that is unkillable and can give good damage and survive without no issues whatsoever.

  24. Right i just finished a build for a fire/psi blaster with T4 spiritual core, and threw in some io bonuses aswell to give it a bit more bang for my buck.
    i definitly feel this could be a hard hitter and although its 5 seconds away from perma hasten, it definitly looks like a shiner.
    also it has 45% defense to s/l and 38% for energy.
    so not bad.
    anyway, if some one please have a look and critique this build and give me some hints on how to improve maybe id be very pleased, thanks
