You know your in a dumb team when:

    [ QUOTE ]
Having an entire eight person team run towards a shadow cyst in the middle of a spawn of red enemies, then being the lone survivor of the sea of nictus, aggro and explodey fun.

"Guys - might want to back off, it's going to explode"
    "There we go."
"No, I don't have any awakens, sorry."

    [/ QUOTE ]

No one I team with -ever- seems to know how Cysts work. It's really, really annoying. You try and tell them and they -still- run in at once and the blasters all go to melee it!
  2. I have a level 22 Peacebringer on Union, called Little Miss Squid.

I was wondering if there were any Supergroups on Union that were just for Kheldians, since that rather appeals...?

  4. I don't know where you heard that, since what I kept hearing is that Peacebringers -start- slightly better-off... but by the 20s/30s the two are roughly equal and in the high-end game, Warshades are t3h uber with Peacebringers still great, but not quite as amazing.

    Vigilance?!?

I've only ever noticed it in action once when a level 15ish PUG had gone south, some of the team had died, and the other half were making a last stand. Vigilance was about all that kept us together since I was able to forget about endurance worries and hold the line until the rest of the team got back.

That one situation aside, vigilance rates as a "meh!"

    IO set bonuses

The bonuses from IO sets don't carry across forms do they - you just get what you've got available in that form - is that right?

  7. I can only talk about a Peacebringer from levels 1 to 15, but for those levels, it's like playing a Blaster tweaked out on superstrong coffee with a red mist over your vision. With the debt (post 10) that entails :-p

  8. Low level invites have been fine for me so far.

I just go to the Hollows, fly out above one of the big spawns within view of Wincott, annihilate it from above in nova form then wait for the "OMG SQUID!" invites to come in :-)

  9. Hi,

I've just recently started my shiny new Kheldian and had a question about the arcs. In two years here, I've -never- joined a team doing a mission from one of these arcs (having glanced through the mission names on Red Tomax's site)... do people run these arcs solo, or not do these missions at all?

Also, do missions in these arcs have more than the usual random amounts of Quantums/Voids? Since if they do, solo isn't an appealing prospect, especially with a team-centric kinda star-squid.

    Etheria hits 50

I hit level 50 for the first time tonight, after over two years here...

My Broadsword/Dark scrapper Etheria is now at her peak, and with the aid of a respec, will hopefully become an almight killing..uh...arresting machine.

I hit 50 at the end of a respec trial (my first ever, as it happens) so thanks to the rest of the team!

Also thanks to anyone I've teamed with along the road to 50 (admittedly, the bulk of the time I was solo, but a few of you might have seen me about)

Now it's time to save for more IOs... and to play with space squid!

  11. Good times?

-Standing in the middle of a massive spawn of Carnies (including several Master Illusionists), no toggles up but Fortitude on me, shouting "COME ON! I'LL TAKE ALL OF YOU!" and the defender saying "I love scrappers with fortitude - they're crazy...". Also, in Carnie missions for a big team, running ahead to the next spawn so I can make the Master Illusionists spawn their pets because it's crazy wild fun.

-Tanking Infernal when the rest of the team wiped, and managing to pass out enough Awakens to bring the mission back to be a complete success.

-saying "Shadow Cyst in the next spawn! All of you stay back, I'll deal with it..." and then having to explain after everyone else dies that you did, in fact, warn them... It happened several times that mission, but I said every time what I was doing....

-The 3-2-1 rule (or whatever you call it). Once -one- person on the team has said Ready!, you count 3-2-1 and then run in. If you say Ready! when you're a scrapper, it's because you're already running in :-)

One of my happy memories, though it involved dying, several times, involved an eight person Nemesis mission. At one point, due to the mobs mostly being round a corner, we didn't realise that we were facing a couple of spawns mixed together, so two scrappers and a blaster ran straight into seven Fake Nemesises, as well as the rest of the spawns... It was a singularly surprising experience. "Oh hey, a Fake. Oh wait. More. Stacked forcefield. Hm. AOE. Argh! OMG DEAD!"

  12. Defiant is the server for my mains, Union is the server for my alts where I just had a pun for the name and not much more.

I've never usually had a problem getting a team, until it gets to about 3 in the morning and only the insomniacs/caffeine-fiends are on....

There are odd "dead" patches where it can be hard to find a team - I intended to solo most of the 20s anyway, but I hardly got any blind invites, let alone tells during that patch... 35+ it's non-stop offers of teams (and not a PL team in sight)

  13. I really don't want Energy Sword to have been chosen.

For a start, it'll just cause an -endless- cavalcade of shoddy jedi rip-offs.... but I suspect it'd just be a mix of the Katana/Broadsword animations and powers with some energy damage tacked on.

Same goes for any kind of bladed thing or daggers. I was disappointed by those Vanguard guys with the big green punch dagger things when they turned out to basically just have Claws.

Even just getting some of the Brute, Tank or Blaster melee powers would be good.

    Must we herd?

    [ QUOTE ]
one invul i happened to see didn't take dull pain till after unstoppable my first thought was 'botched respec?' but who knows why they do such things

    [/ QUOTE ]

My first hero (who doesn't really count because I had no idea what I was doing) was an Inv tank. I didn't read the forums and read the power descriptions. Since it was called Invulnerability and had powers to stop me taking damage, I couldn't actually see why I'd need to heal/increase my hitpoints.. since going by the power descriptions, I wouldn't take any damage, would I?

    I was pretty wrong.

Real scrappers don't stop to say ready

It takes a lot longer to say "Anyone AFK with me on auto-follow is going to regret it in about two seconds". True story.

    Must we herd?

While that build does avoid some of the "classic" tank powers, there are many routes to a good build. If you're wanting to get Stamina and a travel power as early as possible, then you could certainly skip taunt for a while. And let's face it - if he didn't read the forums, he wouldn't actually know what he was expected to take. And every attack he used was a taunt, due to Gauntlet. However, he did appear to have a not-so-hot build AND playstyle..I probably wouldn't have booted him, but certainly wouldn't have been best pleased.

That said, even with all the right powers, it can be tough at lower levels. I've only got one Tank (at level 13, no less) and have been in the Hollows for a while now. Every team has expected fairly standard tanking... which is pretty difficult since by level 13, I haven't exactly got a full complement of slotted shields. So running in to face a whole bunch of red Igneous wasn't a great move, but everyone just said "tank first, then we follow". I did it, to demonstrate -why- it was a bad plan. I didn't expect the stacked knocback (they all hit me at once, and I haven't got the option of knockback protection yet) to send me flying back to the rest of the team. With hindsight, it was really funny.

I've found that on higher level teams where the tank isn't great, having a scrapper or kheldian buddy up with them works well if you want to keep to that kind of tanking playstyle. Tank runs in with scrapper right behind and that tends to keep the enemies focussed and off the squishies.

Admittedly, I'm the kind of scrapper who says "Ready!" and as soon as someone else says it, I'm running in. :-D With luck, the tank'll head towards the same spawn.

  17. I've actually just started a Storm/Elec.

Most of the /Elec powers do endurance drain. If I put a single End Mod enhancement in each power I take from the secondary, will it help me out much endurance-wise... or does it only give you back a tiny amount?

    Anchillary Sets

It said in the description that Energy Torrent did minor damage, so I was thinking of skipping it myself - is it really just good for the knockdown, or does the damage add up?

    spidermonster.
  19. My Scrapper is an Oppressive Gloom sort of girl, rather than CoF, and my endurance is just about manageable these days - especially with some +recovery bonuses. If I can get some knockback protection and get rid of Acrobatics, even better.

Tough is sounding awfully tempting, although a hold would be useful. Not as fun as just jumping in and "arresting" the bosses with Headsplitter though.

    spidermonster.
  20. So I'm hitting 40 tonight with my BS/Dark Scrapper, and then will be into AV and epic storyline territory.

During the 40-50 stretch, there'll also be the last few power picks (as well as getting some knockback protection IOs, if I can afford it, and losing Acrobatics) and I'm not sure what to take.

I was originally thinking of getting the Body Mastery pool, since FA would be useful... but I've got a plan to have quite a few Crushing Impact sets in my attacks (five sets of it, in fact - if I can get it all over and over)... which'll give me a nice accuracy bonus once they're all in place. So FA would be a bit redundant.

None of the others really appeal, for concept reasons, though I guess Darkness would fit.

The only other real contender is to go into the Fighting pool for another attack, and Tough.

Does Tough make a noticeable difference for /DA in the 40+ game? That's my main question.

I've got well-slotted Dark Embrace and Murky Cloud already, of course. And am adding more slots to Obsidian Shield since I know there's a boatload of psi damage coming up.

    spidermonster.
  21. Acrobatics is my knockback protection. It doesn't get turned off often either ;-)

However, since I'm close to 40, I'm starting to look into IO sets and was pondering some with extra mez resistance so that if I do start getting held more, it doesn't last as long.

A friend of mine is Broadsword/Dark Armour and he pwns. Well, he does since he has Stamina. He's 46 now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I only got stamina in the mid-twenties for my BS/DA. It wasn't that tough before then - I just had to be careful, but I changed around my slotting a lot, since I'd been pretty heavily slotted with endurance reduction and wasn't using all the shields all the time.

Getting stamina kind of changed DA for me (Death Shroud usable - woohoo!) and getting Oppressive Gloom convinced me that BS/DA was just awesome. Leap into group of mobs, firing Build Up as you go. Headsplitter, Disembowel and Slice the lieutenant/boss to two or three shot him.... and everyone else is standing around stunned, so you don't even get hurt. And if you had Death Shroud running before you hit Build Up, everyone is nearly dead... I mean, arrested.

    spidermonster.
  23. No, that's not a really weird euphemism.

My Obsidian Shield has worked well up until level 38 with just one Damage Resistance SO in it, but I'm starting to actually get Held occasionally whilst fighting CoT.

I'm a little unclear as to how it works, since I've had it turned on for a good 15 levels or so ;-)

Does adding extra damage resistance enhancements increase the actual magnitude of protection so those annoying Death Mages can't stack holds on you, or does it just cut down the duration when you -do- get held?

It's been so long since I was held with this hero that I got really confused and thought lag was stopping me moving ;-)

    spidermonster.
  24. Thanks for the advice, all in the thread :-)

Since I'm going to be hopefully getting a good few levels this weekend, I'm going to head towards the 20s and see how he works out....then once I start getting some of the more nifty /Empathy buffs, I'll see how things work out with a view to getting a respec around 30 into a more streamlined build, taking on board the tips in this thread.

    spidermonster.
  25. The problem I'm having is that I thought Empathy would be useful as a pick-and-choose secondary. And I want -every- power from the primary. That, together with the Fitness pool and a travel power pool is starting to cut down on choices.

He's definitely intended for team play, I'm not just wanting powers to use on myself.. I just like having a self heal for when it goes wrong - but then, I'm a controller - so expecting me to be an awesome healing/buffing machine is a bit of a mistake for a team to make anyhow ;-) I'm all about the tearing your mind apart so you just stand the screaming.
