    Wow, that's kinda sucky.

Oh wait, I'm talking to a professional writer, better spruce it up a bit.

    Wow, that's rather sucky.
  4. You know, since I first watched the video something's been bothering me, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Something just seemed...off...or missing...from the suit.

    Then it hit me.

    The suit has no nipples.

    An "I Quit" Post

Well if Marcian's quitting then I'm quitting too!

Hey everyone, I'm back! What's changed in the game since I've been gone?
  6. Extra...shards? You know, I understand these words individually, but put together like this they make no sense whatsoever.

Quit to Character Select has not worked for me yet. Not even once. Every single time I either get the 'account already logged in' message, or 'you must enter your username and password' and the password box is empty.

This 'feature' sucks, and not in a good way.
  8. At least this version of "aliens invade, we'll show you what happens in LA" seems to be focusing on the military, as opposed to some douchebags who stay in their apartment the whole time, like in Skyline.

    I might actually see this.
  9. Yeah, it's always the little ones you gotta watch out for. They act all cute and harmless then BOOM!, you're a rug.
  10. Oh, I forgot this one earlier. I just read "The Hunger Games" trilogy by Suzanne Collins. I really, really liked this story. A brief bit of the synopsis from Wikipedia:

    Quote:
The Hunger Games takes place in an unidentified future time period after the destruction of North America, in a nation known as Panem. Panem consists of a wealthy Capitol and twelve surrounding, poorer districts. It is stated that District 12 is located in the coal-rich region "Appalachia", referring to the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern United States and Canada.

As punishment for a previous rebellion against the Capitol, every year one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected at random and forced to participate in the Hunger Games, a televised event where the participants, or "tributes", must fight to the death in a dangerous outdoor arena until only one remains.
The three books ("The Hunger Games", "Catching Fire" and "Mockingjay") are all written first-person, which is rather difficult to do and have it come out well. The author does a great job with this IMHO.

Given the nature of the story, there are some rather brutal scenes of violence.

The bolded parts are at least part of the reason research was curtailed. The medical "industry" makes much more money selling drugs that have to be taken every day for the rest of a person's life. Surgeries make a lot of money for a lot of people. A simple, cheap and effective cure doesn't a revenue stream make.
  12. I just finished reading The Passage by Justin Cronin. It's an apocalypse story, with viral "undead". It's a good read, and the first in a trilogy.

Next up: "Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter". This should be fun.

After a week she had them all playing her game on the playground every day.
Hehe, did she look at the other kids and say, "I find your lack of faith disturbing"?

Ah, the immortal Frank Zappa. What's not to love about a man who can write something like the quote above, and this:

"Took a dog-doo snow cone and stuck it in his eye.
Took a dog-doo snow cone and stuck it in his other eye."

*sigh* Now I'm thinking about how I'll never get to see him perform again, and I'm a little sad.

    Immersion

I LOLd (for realz) at the strategically placed watermelons, owls and cats. That was quite amusing indeed.

And yes, this experiment needs to be replicated...many times. How else will we know if the results are accurate?

I volunteer my bedroo...er...home laboratory space for this much-needed scientific endeavor!

But I knew exactly what I'd found when I came across an old, half-buried, weed-covered statue of the Avatar somewhere in Perez Park. Now THAT was a character who got around! Here, read the CoH comics that tell the story:

They were written by our very own Troy Hickman, and as with everything he writes they are very good.

You can also play the Ouroborous flashback arc "Smoke and Mirrors", which is the same story and also was written by Troy Hickman.
  17. Trollish 101: No, Gragrak, it's not "Troll goods are the best goods", it's "Troll goods am best goods!". Please stay after class and write the correct sentence on the blackboard 100 times.
  18. I'd go see this movie!

    The real Tangled...not so much.
  19. Man, I gotta say, in spite of all the "nerd raging" we can sometimes do, I still really love the geek community. Thousands of Star Wars geeks came together to support a 7-year-old girl who was being teased for liking Star Wars. She was told by other kids that Star Wars is only for boys. Being a kid and wanting to fit in, she wanted to stop taking her Star Wars water bottle to school, and basically give up something she loves.

So, the girl's mom blogged about it. That was picked up by another blogger who put out a call to action to other geeks. Catherine Taber - who voices Padme Amidala in "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" picked up on it and sent out messages to everyone she knows. Taber also left an inspirational message on the mom's blog.

Well, geeks turned out in droves to support this little girl. ThinkGeek.com sent her a light saber. Taber and other cast members of SW:TCW sent Star Wars stuff to the girl. The girl's parents asked supporters to donate Star Wars toys to charities, and so far over 20,000 people have signed up. The guy who voices Yoda on SW:TCW took the girl and her family to a special screening. A face book page was made. And so forth.

    Yay geeks! Go nerds!

  20. I got around the ROUS "issue" a long time ago. I realized that while monster are good adversaries for the characters, the most deadly foes are NPCs, equipped similarly to the players. This makes it fairly easy to scale the difficulty of the fights to keep the players from either walking all over their foes, or getting steamrolled in their first encounter. An added bonus is that many of my players had memorized the Monster Manual (back when I played D&D, many years ago). With custom NPCs, the players can't say, "Oh that's Monster X, from page 53 of the MM. I use a flask of burning oil, as flame is its weakness".

So yeah, I tend to avoid the ROUS in encounters for new characters. I may throw something similar in every once in a while, but it's typically a sideshow to the real adventure.
  21. Slow week for me too. Red Robin #18, Flash #7 and New Avengers #7. Probably wont be able to get to my LCS before the weekend though.
