I have two blasters (50 Elec/ and 39 AR/) with devices as a secondary. On both, I wish had chosen something else. Both were created when I had less experience and my reasoning was as follows:
1) I liked that I had a stealth without having to going into the pool to get it because stealthing was important to me then.
2) The targeting drone seemed cool and a way to boost acc.
3) The land mines really appealed to me.
Now after playing many secondaries, I haven't found any reason to like Devices or to think about making another. I am wanting a second opinion, though. Anyone want to give input? -
I remember hitting 50 with even less than 80 million. I started hosting costume contests because "what the heck would I do with this money just sitting around?" LOL

Wow! I am surprised to see how many energy/energy blasters were people's first blasters. It was my first blaster, too, made in i3. He is still lvl 36. I just had a hard time with him when I first made him (mostly due to not knowing the best way to play a blaster). Now the knockback is still annoying to me and teams, but I am experienced enough to deal with it.

I find myself playing the heck out of my Katana/Invul Scrapper and my SS/Invul Tank and they were both in my first 5 toons ever created.
-
One of the reasons I asked is that I actually find myself surprised at how much I enjoy some of my first toons, still. While other sets that were popular didn't fit me then or now (like Broadsword/Dark Scrapper--he was created in i3 or i4 and is only lvl 35 now!).

Of course many different powersets have been offered up since the beginning, so I was thinking today about the sets and, particularly, the combos that used to be staples "back in my day." What are your thoughts about them now? (I started in i3, so I think of the Heroes as the classics. Your point of view may differ)
Do you still love your Fire tank and think it is "one of the fastest ways to 50"?
Do Spines/Regen Scrappers still make you want to rip into a villain?
Is your Fire/Kin Troller always the leader of your team and do fight with him while others doorsit because you are just that good?
What do you consider to be the classics and do you find them just as fun as you did years ago? -
Quote:I just can't agree with this much. Unless you are packing too many of the same kind of enhancement, you still get much more benefit from being 50 IOed than 30 IOed.functionally, i think that from around lvl 30 or so the differences between enhancement effects of lvl 30 ios and lvl 50 ios is all eaten up by enhancement diversification effects
To answer the OP, I start at lvl 32. -
I guess I am understand if people are wanting to get these badges ASAP. It's easy for me because I don't care about how long it takes and I have SO MANY alts that not playing a toon is very, very easy.

Quote:I hesitate to reply because I know I will be blasted for my comments. I am not a numbers cruncher and can only tell you my experiences. My 50 invul tank is as tough as anything I have played with the exception of Stone. I haven't ever found that I needed more resistance than I have had (and I have tanked more TFs than I can count, including "MO" TFs).
Invulnerability is really only good against smashing and lethal damage. Against anything else, the resistance is poor. Psionic and toxic damage will hurt a lot. It is more difficult to slot for Psi defense in Invulnerability due to needing to slot for more defense than a Granite Tanker needs to reach the soft caps on everything else.
Ice is about the same as Shield Defense, except you aren't protected against fire, cold, psionic, or toxic damage. You will also die quickly to defense debuffs.
Ice can be difficult to play, but once I was mid-40s I could rock it out. I have done several ITFs where defense debuffs are rampant, and have had no issues at all. -
Awesome! I was hoping that I wasn't wrong because I always felt like DM needed more "umph"!

I tried searching this and didn't find anything. I have been away from any of my toons that have DM...did they increase the damage Siphon Life does? I remember it as a "meh" power both for the damage and the heal (I recall reading that it doesn't really do good damage and doesn't really heal well). Now I see it does pretty significant damage. I haven't played my DM toons in several issues. Am I remembering incorrectly or is it better?

Like most players who have been around a while, I have tried every powerset except one (stone melee). I have to agree with the posters who say the worst is the players, not the power. I have ATs, powersets, and powers that I do not like (Khelds, Electric Blasters, Time Bomb, Repel...), but overall I don't see the huge disparity that many mention. I have no issues with my energy/energy tank--I kinda like him. I love my energy/energy stalker.
It just seems that if you know how to play, you can make any set work for you. To the point that your team will like any power that you bring. -
Quote:I have the same powersets and I never get PLed. I hated (and still do) this toon, but I have this OCD-ish need to finish things to 50. And so he sits and I deliberate deleting, but never have a need for a slot, so I don't. Electric blast is so pointless (the end drain is only significant if you are teamed with other end drainers) and enough has been said about devs. I am just happy my attempt to use devs was accidently paired with my least favorite blaster primary. We're on the 3rd page and still no mention of Electric Blast?
I have a lvl 50 Elec/Dev blaster I consider my greatest achievement, or at least my most determined effort (no PLs while leveling up). Solo, end drain and caltrops made things moderately safe, but still... This was my first blaster. When I made my next blaster, I was amazed how quickly mobs could actually be killed. -
Maybe I am missing something, but I would not want Rage any faster. I already have it come up very quickly, and unless they changed it, if rage comes up more quickly, you could activate more often, but that just means you have the rage drop more often. Maybe I am behind the times, but that is the problem I used to have with my tank.

Perfect. Thanks.

Let me say upfront that I have no complaints about Praetoria, but I want to be sure that I am understanding it correctly. Can anyone answer a couple of questions?
1) The point of Praetoria is new content? You get to move your toon from lvl 1 to 20 with content you haven't gotten tired of? (And you get to play with the opposite-side ATs)
2) Once you hit 20, what happens? Do you choose a side and go? I don't think you stay in Praetoria.
3) If you make a Praetorian and do not want to stay there (meaning move to blue or red sooner) is it possible to leave and not go back?
Thanks! -
Thanks. I am not saying someone else shouldn't want to walk the in-between line, but for me I don't think it will work. Again, I can play all the content anyway because of the many toons I have, so the "fun" is still there for me.

I have finally been getting my hero merits and see how valuable they are. Then I thought about the one vigilante and one rogue that I have. Is the only significant reason to have one of these so that you can play TFs and SFs on both sides? If I am understanding correctly, you cannot get hero or villain merits. This leads me to believe that I don't want any rogues or vigilantes--I have heros and villains on each server that I play so I don't need a toon that can play both sides, but also misses out on some of the rewards. Tell me what I am not seeing, please.
(Although I do like seeing the new symbols on my character choosing screen...) -
I'd like to know what your difficulty settings are. I have just lowered my settings to -1 when I was on defenders and had no issues. Not because it isn't possible to do it otherwise, I just wanted to get the arc out of the way.

Quote:Sorry to take us too far off topic, but I do remember when SOs were so awesome. You'd get them at the end of a TF and be really happy you got one. Now I just think, "gotta put that on the market so I can get that badge", but don't think about using an SO (usually) beyond hitting lvl 32.Y'know, I've always thought it would be fun for the game to revert back to the launch state for just one day, so people could really appreciate how much the game has changed.
Of course, beyond the technical limitations, we'd lose a lot of the player toons in one swell foop (no EATs, VEATs, Villians, Praetorians, etc) and all the surviving players would lose their IOs, capes, Vet powers, and such, so it might be a bit of a debacle, but still... -
Quote:I have a sonic defender and a sonic troller. I would totally disagree that it "just plain sucks" and totally disagree that it is a FF clone (with resistance instead of defense). It is NOT a good solo powerset, but every team I join cheers when I come on board. FF doesn't have the extra debuff which makes sonic totally a different set (heck even if it's shields were defense based, it would still be different because of the debuff). It debuffs from a teammate and has a single target debuff!Sonic. Hands down. I had a level 50 Sonic and deleted it. Sonic just plain sucks. It is basically a FF clone with resistance instead of defense. The worst part is that the main AoE -res power has to be attached to an ally making it totally USELESS solo. It should work like the Trick Arrow Disruption arrow as a Location AoE but it doesnt. Also Liquefy is a horrible tier 9 power. Its timer is far too long.

Quote:Actually I wasn't complaining AT ALL. I had posted a complaint about a week ago, then posted this to say (just as the title states) I TAKE IT BACK. Would a slot or two more be nice, sure, but I am over that and enjoying adding 3 new powers to my toons. The OP is complaining about not getting EVEN MORE slots so he can slot Stamina they way he's used to and have new slots for the powers he wants to take in place of the Fitness pool. For some reason a lot of people have looked this particular gift horse in the mouth.
-
I have complained privately and here that I wasn't that thrilled with respecing because of the inherent fitness without new slots. I take it all back. I have respec-ed many toons this weekend and had no issues. My Fire/Rad Troller will be SO MUCH stronger. All this without considering Alpha Slotting. Thanks Devs!
