I think the dollar/point thing backfires on me. I have no problem adding 25% to the points and making my buying decisions based on that number of cents. And I continue to do that even though I got a bulk discount on buying lots of points. The end result is that when making a decision on buying, I assume everything is going to cost me more than it actually does.

Quote:You just said the same thing twice and are acting like they are supposed to be different things. If there are two people (A and B), then A joining B has the exact same effect as B joining A. Teaming is commutative. If the person telling me "team brute 36?" is asking me if I want to join him, then I might. If that person is asking if I want him to join him, then no, I don't.
While your hypothetical player is terse, I see no way in which he was ambiguous. -
Quote:There are quite a few things we can tell about the potential of servers. There were some people who planned on moving all (or at least most) of their characters to exalted in order to avoid the free players. Those people will be more strongly represented on exalted than anywhere else. There is no telling how a server will turn out in the future. I was talking about what the server is like now.
In the future, when populations inevitably drop again, exalted will be more susceptible to those losses than the other servers.
So, best of all worlds, it comes out slightly behind the other servers which do not have those two particular shortcomings. -

Quote:Inaccurate?I submit that if male characters really were as sexualized as the female ones in this game and/or genre...
The camera would be locked, by default, on their perfect cheeks. An alternate setting would move it to focus on the (bare) chest and/or back.
There would be a separate hair slider, with one extreme being bald or buzz-cut and the other end being "down to his ***."
Crotch bulges for everyone.
Half the animations would involve stretching or bending over.
How's that for a start? -

Quote:Is the first time award per mission or just the first time you do any one of them?Assuming all future ones will start at level 10 like the current, you could roll a character, get to 10, and get eight HVMs (from the 7-part WWD series). You could then use those 8 to buy quite a few very nice recipes (getting to 25 for LOTG wouldn't even be that hard... certainly a lot easier than doing 80 tip missions!). And then, you reroll

Really, since they share a timer, there's no reason other than story to buy more than 1 sig.

Quote:The quote wasBecause if you know it's a speed run and you're lagging significantly behind (i.e., the rest of the team is already at the AV and you're making your way there v e r y s l o w l y for no apparent reason besides laziness or ineptitude), then that's annoying. Note that this is not the same scenario as someone who going into a speed run stating "I've never done one of these before", they can be excused for being on the slow side.
Quote:incapable of "keeping up" for a speed run (although if you're lagging behind in what was clearly advertised as a speed run, then yeah, people will probably get miffed, and rightfully so)
Quote:Also I never said Pinnacle was devoid of any stupid people (far FAR from it), but grumbling about a TF not being a speed run is not the same as kicking people for not having IOs, which is the point I was making. -
You might want to also look at other aspects of the build. With very few exceptions (specific powersets), purples do not contribute to "less dmg. taken". You've got something else in your build making that happen.

Quote:Taking information that is organized specifically by what the reader is looking for and smashing it together with things that are unrelated is not simplifying. What if we provided guidelines so that posts were easily identifiable within each forum?
I don't particularly view it as pigeonholing, simply as...well...simplifying.
The Tank forum generally does not have threads on "how does taunt work" or things equally generic. It has specific questions about tank builds and powers. Having that convenience removed by smooshing irrelevant information about brutes in there does nothing but make things harder to find. -
Quote:Neither of those is antithetical to "strong".The men aren't as sexualised as the women because the male models is strong. It's imposing, impressive and highly practical for a fighter. It's a tough guy. The female model isn't strong. It's got large breasts as default and no way of not having a tremendous butt.

Quote:A slight tangent from this comment, but while watching the linked video, I couldn't get past the point where he showed 90% identical pictures of males and females and talked about how the women were posing and the men were mini-novellas told in image format.Come to think of it, wedon't have a 'fat' slider either, do we? We can't make a villain like The Blob for example.
Then they got to the fat man, who supposedly was wearing a window to his soul on his forehead, but to my limited sight was generic anime fat man with a flag. I suppose I do know from his detailed portrayal that he was supposed to be jolly - after all, why else make him fat. Glad men don't live with cliched images like women do. -
Quote:This is what bothers me. If you think rmt spammers are annoying, just wait until the free players are trained to think blind invites are the correct way of playing the game. The inability to respond to tells will put F2P players at a huge disadvantage. Following the rules of common courtesy in the game, I never send blind invites, and always send a tell first before inviting. If someone doesn't respond to me I assume they're AFK or not interested and will therefore not invite them.
But the inability to respond to polite tells will mean F2P players will never get invited to a team that knows what it's doing. That means they'll probably never get any kind of sense of community, and they'll be very unlikely to actually want to pay for a game that apparently has a major design flaw. It's also very inconvenient for VIP players who want to make a team: they can't easily tell why the person isn't responding. -
Quote:This is the part I find funniest about the whole thing. The reward for being vigilante is you can go to rogue isles, but if you want to get vigilante style morality missions, you need to go back to PC.If she had level 20+ Vigilante arcs and missions to do in the Isles and Paragon City, and maybe some kind of special contacts to get temp powers from, then them not having access to H/V Merits would be understandable.
Rogue and vigilante seem designed as speedbumps to switching sides completely, as there isn't a sustainable point where I can keep doing vigilante missions in the enemy's area. -
Quote:If you're buying purples, yes, but for anything else, it's conservatively 2 hours for a recipe. I doubt you can get 32 astrals in 2 hours.Isn't the Alignment Merits argument a little bit obsolete now?
It is far more efficient to make your pruchases with Astral/Emp merits now than Alignment.
There really isn't any reason to be a hero/villain over vig/rogue now...
Plus, you need to be 50 to even begin, compared to being 20 and getting xp along with your merits. -

Quote:I have 3 characters I am considering taking back to hero-villain just for the Signature story arc. 3 missions once a week is about all I play them anyway, and I might as well get the best rewards possible for that time. It bothered me when I ran out of viable characters at the free merit buffet.Alignment Merits are a very strong motivator... but they cannot be realistically attained on unlimited characters. Depending on your dedication, it makes sense to have a few characters to generate Alignment Merits. The alignment of the rest of your characters can be freely based off teaming flexibility (Rogue/Vigilante), stronger powers (Frenzy/Call of Justice), or just theme.

Quote:I consider it zero additional content, since...Okay, they get Hero/Villain merits sure, but how is that really equal to being opened to twice as much content as someone who is able to get those merits?
1. I have plenty of alts I can play the content on
2. If I'm playing a hero, then the Villain content is worthless to me, thematically.
The hero/villain merits are the easiest to get/most valuable currency in the game. I have several vigilante/rogues, but they see maybe 10% the play of heroes and villains at later levels due to having the main source of available rewards cut in half. It's so imbalanced that I consider it effectively broken.
Quote:Also, the alignment powers for full heroes/villains are generally better than the rogue/vigilante powers.
Also, if they keep making trials, Death from Below can't be run with a mixed team. So, on the fastest lobie leveling non-AE content, rogues and vigilantes have no more freedom than heroes and villains do. -
I got on an played as normal. I was not even aware that free-to-play had started officially until coming to the boards.
Do you hang out on a streetcorner in Atlas or something? -
Quote:If they do cycle out, then new rewards would cycle in, and you would need to fill those separately since they are different rewards. Presumably, if the same reward cycles back in, it would still be filled.Just to squash my ever-present paranoia:
When they do cycle the rewards, do we need to put tokens again in the tier 9 VIP slots, or do our existing tokens there cover them?
The only reason I ask, is that none of the other tiers have a planned changing; they will be set in stone AFAIK. Just want to know if I need to plan to have tokens around when they do change. -
Quote:If you're napping by the door, then sure, people can get pissed, but what is "rightly so" about getting bothered by someone moving as quickly as they are able to?I'm going to contradict this and say that I have never seen people kicked from teams because they didn't have set bonuses, or because they were deemed incapable of "keeping up" for a speed run (although if you're lagging behind in what was clearly advertised as a speed run, then yeah, people will probably get miffed, and rightfully so). Maybe it's different on other servers or if you're joining teams that are just forming through Broadcast, but if you find the right server with the right global channels*, it shouldn't be an issue.
And as for not doing speed runs, I would love to see what a non-speed eden looks like. Never seen one. Ran 8 when it was WTF, and not a single one was non-speed.
You can get a non-speed ITF because it's so good for farming shards, but much of the game is to the point where if you can't zip past an army of enemies at X8, then you need not apply.
I've had people get pissed that I didn't run a speed TF. Apparently "we can take a straight path to the end, but I'm going to attack everything I see" is anathema in the game.
Oh, and that last part was on pinnacle and it was formed using pinnbadges and cozmic's.
