  1. no rolls.

I'm looking for specific low, low level recipes that aren't on WW.

So, however many merits it costs at the merit vendor to get those recipes, I'm offering to pay at a rate of 350K/merit (i.e. LOTG recharge would be 200 merits * 350K = 70 mil).

But lowering the bar to let more people in doesn't necessarily mean that better quality people will enter. In fact, it means the opposite. My point is that the AE system, as it currently stands, has seriously lowered the bar.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This "bar" of yours is very arbitrary is it not? And, why should it matter? They're not trying out for a sports team. CoH players are paying money to have fun in their own way. If they "suck," but they're having fun regardless, isn't that the ultimate goal of a game is suppose to be?

    [ QUOTE ]
if you're looking for someone to blame, blame also those people in the community who could not resist the temptation to create farming missions left and right and made a point to use AE to level up and gain rewards using the most effecient methods while not considering what impact this would have on the game, and its community.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The impact is that they're getting the most enjoyment out of their monthly fees. There is no "right" way to have fun. Everyone has fun differently.

    [ QUOTE ]
I have the same complaint. People just want to PL through AE now. Running around in a circle fighting the same enemies over and over is NOT my idea of fun. But when I put in my LFG description, and in my LFG shouts, "Not looking for farms" i still get invited to them left and right. AE HAS taken a lot of fun out of the game for me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not your idea of fun, but it seems to be fun for alot of other people. If you don't want to do what they do, then just don't do it, but don't expect other people to stop doing what's fun for them so they team with you and do only what's fun for you.
  3. Not sure exactly which section to post this request, but I've seen topics regarding merit-inf conversions before here.

Anyways, as the topic says, I'm looking to buy merits on virtue blueside @ 350K/merit. I arrived at this number based on the roughly average 70 mil price I see LOTG 7.5 recharges selling for.

I'm looking to get several low, low level recipes that are hardly ever on sale on WW.

Please let me know if interested. thanks!

I absolutely agree, this is the real "purple problem".

I think the supply needs to increase because the market value, expressed in terms of the time it takes to produce that much raw inf from NPCs, is "too high". But that's entirely a subjective game design issue.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But the source of inf isn't just the raw inf from NPCs. The amount of inf from selling SOs and recipes to the vendors produces way more inf than what NPCs are directly dropping. Also, many items fetch for more inf now on WW than before, so players are able to get more inf when they sell their drops. Not only that, but AE is also producing way more inf and not any purples. The same can be said when players are leveling their alts instead of killing NPCs with their 50s.

That means if *you* want purples, get out of the AE and start playing exclusively on your 50s. If not, then don't complain about the "purple problem" because *you* are part of the problem.

IMO, the major cause of this so-called problem is too much inf in the market, causing hyperinflation on the highly-desired items. My solution would be to increase inf sinks and decrease the amount of inf created, mainly be decreasing the amount of inf the vendor pays for recipes and SOs.

    [ QUOTE ]
The easiest way to increase the drop rate a little and take away the powerful incentives to solo (or multi-box) farm instead of actually team with people is to scale the drops the way XP scales...if not even more.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No problem with solo getting more. It's a trade-off. It just depends on what people value more: partying or higher chance of purples.

People just have to learn they can't have everything they want all the time.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
IMO, The AE system as it currently is, has wrecked this game for me. The AE has made more players who have no clue about how to use their characters powers and has made more people more concerned about PL'ing than about actually playing the game. For new players, the fact that the only team that they can find is an AE team in Atlas further exacerbates this problem - this is only teaching the new players that CoH is only about doing AE missions and PL'ing. It is virtually impossible to get a normal mission team nowadays at any level.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The existence of other players is not to be your teammate. Why should other players change their playstyle to fit your needs, when you're the one that wants to team with them.

If some paying customers in CoH want to PL, AE farm, and be noobs, then that's what they're paying to do. They're not paying to please you. What you're suggesting is to restrict the enjoyment of other players to increase your own enjoyment.

Perhaps, you should be the one to adapt to doing more AE farms, if you want to team with others.
  6. I *was* PvPing pretty heavily in RV the last few months. I too have an energy/energy blaster. From personal experience, boost range and slotted fly is your friend.

Firing boost range + BU + AIM + snipe while flying high seems to do wonders. I've noticed lately that alot of vills opt to not choose the fly power, instead going with buying the flying pack, meaning they only have unslotted fly. If you have slotted fly, they're gonna be hard pressed to chase you when you're already so far from them, thanks to boost range.

An annoying thing to do is to camp/fly above the vill base and take pot shots with boost range and snipe out of the range of the drones.
  7. What's wrong with farmers getting more. "Casual" players don't put in nearly the amount of effort deserving of any purples, so why should the drop rate be artificially tilted in their favor.

Just because purples are costing more and more doesn't mean the RELATIVE effort to get one is increasing over time. While not exactly accurate, i'll give a hypothetical situation.

Purple X costs 10 mil inf a year ago, but now costs 200 mil inf, so people start complaining the current price is 20X what it was a year ago. But, people fail to realize that inf is also much easier to acquire now. It probably isn't that much more effort to get 200 mil inf now as it was to get 10 mil inf a year ago. Of course, AE not dropping purples has caused its own share of problems. My answer to those people who want purples would be to get out of AE and start farming their own purples. Use what you want and sell the rest for inf to buy other purples.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
Not everyone is running a level 50....at least they weren't tonight when I was running a team.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I made no mention of level 50s other than referring to XP debt at that level. Any well-geared team (HOs, IOs, yellows, oranges, purples, pvps) can storm through most of the content at any level w/o really having to worry much about strategy and such. AE only made it that much simpler.

    [ QUOTE ]
Try playing on invincible in a police mission in King Row at level 5 and get back to me about how easy you plow through content on the lowest level - and, no, you can't have level 50's along with you. Solo it or run it with a team of level 5s or lower.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please refer to the last sentence of my post.

    [ QUOTE ]
You would almost have to specifically set up certain situations just to be challenged.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's what you're suggesting with soloing radio missions at level 5 on invincible, and you're artifically restricting gameplay of not including level 50s to provide a challenge. Ironically, that may actually not be much of a challenge anyways. One could always pick one of the "defeat boss and guards" radio missions, then rush to the boss and bust out with a tray full of purples (aka god mode).

That's also another thing....inspirations. Even back when my blaster was purely using just SOs, soloing AVs meant absolutely nothing with a tray full of purples and reds. Inspirations drop frequently and super cheap at vendors. People would have to deliberatly not use inspirations to be challenged.

    [ QUOTE ]
There is a punishment for debt at level 50 -- your inf is cut in half until you work off the xp debt.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Nope, inf isn't cut at all. See for yourself.

Perhaps, you mean when a player is exemplared down and get XP debt. In that case, the player gets no inf at all until the debt is paid off.

It is evident that skill can be easily subsituted by gear in CoH because the entire game, according to the devs, is balanced on SOs. Hypothetically, players wouldn't be able to bull-rush everything with gear if portions of the game were balanced around say..... HOs or IOs, but this wouldn't sit will with the playerbase as a whole.
  9. I'm really not that sure that much "skills" are required for this game. Since this game is balanced around SOs, often a well-geared party can just bulldoze through TFs without any consideration for strategy. Things just die so fast, even at the max difficulty setting, that it doesn't matter who's in what position. Also, since XP debt means absolutely nothing once you hit 50, there's really no significant punishment for dying.

You would almost have to specifically set up certain situations just to be challenged.
  10. In many cases, the constant influx of inf far outstrips the influx of "stuff." This is especially noticeable with the highly sought items like purple and pvp sets and certain HOs.

It's just how it is. Players (real & RMT) are generating much more inf than the good "stuff" over any given period of time and without significant inf sinks, the inf will just continue to buildup over time, which is partially manifested when you see the RMTs constantly having to drop their prices.

Ironically, IMO I believe that the major inf "sink" in the game is people just hoarding inf for the fun of it or some kind of competition perhaps. That effectively takes inf out of circulation.
  11. You also have to keep in mind the inf vs. time/effort ratio is constantly decreasing as the constant influx of inf is making inf more and more worthless by the second. I don't think the 4 mil inf difference now is actually larger (in real, inflation-adjusted terms) than say 1 mil inf difference a year ago. Inflation is staggering. While not official, I've noticed a steady drop in RMT prices for inf. That is at least a trackable indicator of inflation over time. In 3 months alone, I've seen RMT drop by prices by more than 40%.
  12. The drops rates are absolutely fine. Purple sets are suppose to be the rarest of the rare (along with PvP sets). People are not suppose to have them. No one ever "needs" them whatsoever.

People just need to deal with the fact that they may not be able to have what others have. That's just the way life is.
  13. I have a question regarding pvp recipe set bonuses and how they work. This is specifically regarding bonuses that activate for (PVP). Do they work when.....

    1) Player steps into arena and any pvp zone.

    or

    2) Only when player hits another player and will not activate when attacking NPCs in a pvp zone.

If (2) is true, then how will self targeting powers be able to take advantage of those pvp set bonuses? Specifically, pvp recipes have some nice recharge reduction set bonuses that are (PVP) only, but I am wondering how skills like hasten will be affected by them.

Becuase if the good pvpers didnt take so much time smashing and running off all the new guys by having or feeling the need to excessively rub every kill they do in their face and then repeat process over and over then I 13 wouldnt even been needed. Running off new players, creates angry customers, angry customers carry it to the forums and pve, which carries over into buisness and angry customers aint good for buisness. So in sacrifice for a few L33t uber people that made it point to prove they are uber 24/7 and threw one too many grains of salt into the wound, I13 came to be for the better enjoyment of pvp by anyoen who wishes to go into it and not just the l33t few. All it would've took to avoid this nerf bat wasa little respect among players. a little honor. This is basically a self inflicted pvp nerf. Yes some people say that killing someone over and over to bug them is legal so is putting my finger in ya face but not touching you and spitting all types of explitive in front your grandma and wishing the old bat would die so I could laugh when they put her into the ground is all perfectly legal but doesnt exactly make it right. And and if I did do that, I expect a fight to ensure, which in this case complaints and animosity. Pre-13 PVP was nice with the powers and stuff, but it sucked balls because it was always like hard core pvpers owned the zone and didnt want anyone in. Well , mission accomplished on their part but that's bad for buisness by runnign off paying customers. And since the l33t group was small to begin with, they didnt stand a chance against the angry protests. Of course some of my coolest buddies was l33tz and left with the rest but if changing something to piss off a few people for the better for more then go for it. I see the concept behind I13 but dont think it worked out exactly as it was envisioned. Or maybe so depending on which side you're on. Many people are just glad the old d-wads as they became known are finally gone.

You can shut up any day now.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, the person has a very valid point.

CoH is a business to extract profit as efficiently as possible. Funding is scarce, so naturally the devs will put more money into things that satisfy the most people.

Well, those of you who drive casual people away from PvP, the problem is completely self-inflicted. The less people who PvP, the lower amount of return the devs would get from funding any improvements in PvP.

If the "hardcore" PvPers want more attention to PvP stuff, then they better do a good job at retaining people to PvP, so the devs might actually think it's worthwhile to sink money into that aspect of gameplay.

There are far more money-paying PvP "newbs" than there are hardcore PvPers. When money talks, which group do you think will end up winning.
