why take devices as a secondary?

    Because i enjoy it.

I couldn't give a crap less that another set is "better". I will play and enjoy any power set i find fun, regardless of other people's opinions of it.

Does it have flaws? Of course it does, every set has flaws. But i haven't found those flaws to take any of the enjoyment away for me.

I enjoy playing /devices, and that is reason enough to play it.
I don't think the 7 page of this thread is an issue about the fun factor of Device, Honestly I also think Energy / Energy is cool regardless of the KB it does. I also of course think Device is fun as well.

But fun factor aside part of me is a bit annoyed that some of the stuff they tried to implement in Device went to VEATs instead, EG crits out of stealth, a better defense value from cloaking device. That the game went to IOs and that allowed for some really super builds which made Device much more useful then it might have been in the past. In the past during tough fights players might have waited a few moments for the placement of Trip mines and then pulled a boss or group across the mines. In the past someone might have actually said hit them with smoke so our defense are bit better. In the past they might have said too many mobs to get the glowy can you stealth over and get it.

Today its not only the Stone Tank that is defense capped its Every Tank and Every Brute, even Scrappers can get capped out now. As can Many other ATs as well.

So end result whatever little tiny nitch or benefit Device might have offered is pretty much nullified today. Today that defense capped scrapper will just run over to the glowy and click it as he evades and dodges all incoming attacks, heck I do that with my Traps AR Defender.

IOs are great and really allow you to do some amazing things, but I think of them as giving a level 10 AD&D paladin a Holy Avenger or Vorpal Sword (geeky analogy) or think of it as being able to have Trip mine at level 10. I think it put the game so out of whack that nothing is tough anymore.

Are there cool powers in Device ? Sure there are, that is why they ported them over to Traps.

I believe if they ported over VEAT cloaking device and advantages over to Blaster Device I would have much less to complain about. This way anyone with Device can have a chance for a crit out of cloaking and Cloaking device offers a higher Defense value when suppressed. Granted I would like Blaster cloaking device to be unsuppressed defense value to make it more unique and it is not like it will offer the ability to gain multiple defense cap that was anyways. Though it would allow you to obtain one cap much easier.

No one says that when you hamstring them with extra rules blasters are great. Blasters lack defensive powers. Ruling out using the primary resource blasters have to overcome this drawback is unfair.

How about this rule? Neither player can use their secondary. It is just as valid a nonsense rule as removing inspires, IMO
I am not the one who said Devices can out do Traps. I am not the one who is saying Devices is this Great secondary. I am not the one who is saying my AT will Mow down enemy before they can even attack back. All that was said by DragonKat. I'm just accepting the challenges that were put forth.

    Okay use inspirations

Setting at 0/8, bosses, no AV ( unless you want the AV for some reason ), I'm just looking to be able to finish this without spending 4 hours doing it..

Since you mentioned that solo inspirations benefit Blasters. I only want 1 person inside with me as my Vigilance will be decreased for too many players.

No temps - Hyper phase, backup radio, Rikti Drone, jet packs

I request the map be an existing one and not one just created for this event.

Every death is a 30 second penalty to time.

Full map clear before getting the glowy this way we can determine a stop time.

Players are allowed a review of the map before starting as I am sure if I pick the map it will be suspected I know which route to take for optimal completion and likewise vice versa. So we go in look around the map on a lower setting and then reset.

We zone in sync our times and the time starts as soon as the person moves in for the fight and says go.

    Thinking DP/Dark

I don't think anyone went this way with the builds. I also do not know if it is possible to slot this way until I get my hands on mids to play around. But here is the premise. I think with 3 slotting Darkest Night and slotting for Positional Defenses to about 20 to 25 % you should be able to defense cap. The snag is that higher level mobs have a better chance of resisting your -ToHit of Darkest Night.

Since Dark does have some cool powers that allow you to be in the mix and the short range of DP AOE attacks they should work pretty well. I think the biggest issue is recharge on Darkest Night if it drops down. Basically it can mean instant death. I have something like this on my Dark Electric Defender. My big issue is loosing Darkest Night or having the DN Anchor run off. Even with fear and 2 other holds from both dark and electric this can be a pain sometimes. But for the most part it works well and the heal really helps out.

    Demons/Traps?

There is room for modification. All the LOTG can be changed out. Bonfire and Fireball can me changed out. I picked up fireball and bonfire for added DPS and bonfire is a neat power to keep mobs at bay.

RP concept rich spoiled girl who steals gadgets from daddy's company and got involved in occult and demon summoning after killing a low level villain and stealing his spell book using dads gadgets of course.

Costume wise I wanted to have the innocent girl that progressively gets worse and uglier with each costume mixing magic and tech looks. Her demon Charlie occasionally blows up to protect her. I tried a male toon but just could not get the look I wanted. Females already have the school girl costume so it just fit better.

My second build is a full Demon build because people really get mad about petless or semi petless masterminds. But I have been leveling Semi Petless only so far. At level 37 its a painfully slow build to create, but having 3 or 4 MM at levels 45 or higher ( 2 at 50 IO and alpha slotted ) I wanted to try something challenging for me.

    An Idea for AR

I don't see them doing that.

But it would be nice if each primary and secondary had a A column and a B column. Column A being the standard set your used to and Column B being a new set you can choose from. So you can either have Ignite from Column A or SoandSo power from Column B.

I think this would really give players many more unique choices So that every AR / * player would be a bit more unique then another AR / * of the same set.

At this stage in the game I think many players for the most part end up picking the same powers or have similar builds where maybe one or 2 powers might be different. But overall Every AR player is going to have Full Auto or get questioned 100x over why they don't or a Kin not having Speed boost. Again are there players that don't have Speed Boost ? Sure, but not that many. Again this falls into the category oddities along with Petless Masterminds ( which I have ).

Of course I just don't mean this for AR, I am talking all sets.

I think it would spice up PvP as well. As it would now make players think more. Does this guy have the standard set or does he have a mix of old and new or all new. Where against a certain set he knew he could handle now the new powers might have a few debuffs this person did not expect. Holtz is a perfect example of some interesting AR powers. She fires a cluster bomb above your head spreading AOE damage below. She has a end drain power.

The Manips all have Immobilizes, but both EBs still have ranged attacks and you still have to take them out from 100% health. Ice has Ice Patch, Mental has Drain Psyche and TK Thrust, and Energy has Power Thrust, although I can't remember how much resistance EBs have to various status effects. I imagine Elec and Fire would have the worst time of it.

The downside is you can only ever run this mission once on any character. Makes it tough to do comparisons.
With EM and Archery I was able to stack Stuns with power boost. Increase Range caused Holtz to keep running at me to get into range, then for some reason she would run away. Near the end when she was close to dying and she would run to the back, boost range was very helpful in hitting her without getting aggro of the other mobs around her. I kept moving to prevent he from hitting me with that cluster bomb when possible as well.

Honoree was easier because of his limited number of range attacks. What I seen was common was he would Range stun and then engage in Melee. If he got me in Melee I would go for every stun attack or KB power and I moved away, again power boost came in handy. Also being able to attack while stunned was great also. Further EM helps you obtain Range defense cap much easier because you can slot Makos along with Thunderstrike. Between the limited number of hits and regen I had more issues with endurance then anything else.

I mean it in the context that either you will die a lot or it will take you longer to clear the map. So it would be easier for one player to concede to the out come depending on how the first person did. If you cleared the map in 20 minutes with no deaths and I am only 1/2 way through the map with 2 deaths and 5 minutes to go its obvious to me I cannot beat your time let alone match your survival rate.

I would guess we could impose a time penalty for each death. So if we said each death is a 30 second penalty. Then if you died more but completed in less time it could make you a winner or a looser. Simply if you did the mish in 19 minutes with 2 deaths at a 30 sec penalty each and I did it in 20 minutes with no deaths then I would win because I had no deaths. But if you did it in 18 with 2 deaths you would win because of the 1 minute difference.

I believe or understood the comments by dragonkat to say that device offers better buffs and debuffs then Traps does and can out perform traps because it offers such superior performance. So I believe that test should be done on powers alone. I seen no comments or discussion about inspirations in these pages during this debate or discussion as to the benefits or advantages they had to Device or Traps. Basically you either live or die on what your build is. If you can't handle a mission setting of 6 or more then just say okay I can't or use the powers you have to pull mobs in group sizes you can handle. All of this "Strategy" will increase your run time and a failure to adhere to it could cause your death.

    Demons/Traps?

I have a Demon Traps myself, but I think the theme issue is probably the culprit here. My Demon Traps is also my first Female / RP / Semi Petless type toon. Figured I would go the works with this one. I only picked traps because it easily allows me to gain defense cap with a Semi Petless ( last pet only ) build. Traps anything is super great. So the only reason would have to be thematic here.

I have to say it is a problem with the AT. Having a pet run the wrong way getting unwanted aggro. Having one lone pet chase some mob across the map for some crazy reason. Having to put pets on passive and then using follow me to stop them from chasing running mobs. I think having to repeatedly use commands or a combination of commands to have pets follow you or disengage mobs is troublesome. I use the keypad option with some additional added commands and it still can be a pain. Having Range Pets charging into battle with no Melee attacks. Without a doubt everyone always has that one pet that just runs off a bit to the right or left pulling another group. Why its always that one tier one pet I have no clue..

Since I am spending more time trying to control my pets it means its less time I am doing something else that is beneficial to my team or for myself and my pets when needed.

Pet AI needs fine tuning. Basically an ability to allow each player within certain constraints to determine what each command means to them. For example my Stay command for my Robots might mean stay here DON'T MOVE NO MATTER WHAT and just attack anything I tell you to attack that comes into range. For other players they might want to add some limited chase distance. Meaning okay stay but if something runs off I will give you 30 yard leeway to chase the guy down otherwise turn back and return. I think this can be accomplished with the addition of left clicking the power and adding radio buttons to the power.

As to the OP, I don't think Masterminds come to full fruition until the 40s. I think then when you have your full sets and IOs slotted that you start to see some finer control. I think for the most part for many masterminds the ride to 50 is either having pets start the attack by taking out the tough mobs. EG Nullifiers, Gunslingers, Wardens or firing off an attack to get aggro on yourself to provoke and have the pets attacks the group. Basically absorbing the alpha strike yourself. Once your at 50 and have your IOs set up with dark your pretty much flooring everyone's -ToHit and have one of the best AOE heals going. Granted -ToHit can be resisted, but Darkest Knight with defenses slotted for 20 to 25% give you defense cap. Which will pretty much push your attack style to always looking to get the aggro.

With my Robot FF just respeced I have everyone at defense cap and I still get one pet that runs off all the time and gets killed. I have no clue and it bugs me sometimes. But once that Tier one is killed the other 5 work well for the most part. I don't even bother resummoning unless another Tier one dies.

I accept this challenge as well. As long as I am allowed to play my full build to its full potential I have no complaints. My only request is no inspirations because it will just drag things out. Further I will add that I am also willing to have players tag along even if its going to hurt my Vigilance. I think that alone is fair enough advantage in favor of Device let alone what you might be considering.
  11. Dragonkat

You are selectively cutting out statements I made to spin them in a negative light for your own gain.

Nutshell you think device is great and can do more then traps and I should see you in action.

    Okay I take that offer.

    Here are the rules.

    1. You pick the AE mission.
    2. Difficulty setting bosses, no AVs for simplicity.
    3. Difficultly setting of 0/7-8
    4. No inspirations
    5. Full map clear

We then see who died the most and how long it took to clear. Seems simple and fair enough. If I loose you can come back here and tell everyone.

Post here and I would welcome anyone who is interested to come watch up to the number of difficulty setting Dragonkat wants. We can get at least 5 or 6 observant as impartial witnesses to the event.

You called me out and I must accept the challenge.

But for sure this will either prove or disprove your thoughts and statements about how much more Device has over Traps.

Wow Great one. Didn't think about that..
  13. Being a solo player for the most part, my bases are just for storage. I would rather level another toon to 50 then waste the time needed to make a cool looking base. Though I would like to create an interesting base and have some ideas. I think moving all that stuff and hanging other items to make yet another item hang is a pain in the backside and to time consuming for me. I start and 3 hours in I give up seeing how much more time it will take to create my vision.

I don't think that the Devs will come out and clearly say that the base implementation they have today is borked, as other games do monitor this game. I can see them use it against the CoX franchise. I recall having another competitor say that the characters created will have moving fingers unlike the mittens that CoX has going on. They will just use or say that they have bases that truly work.

I'm pretty darn positive that the Devs will reimburse any and all prestige, if not even give you more just to make everyone happy if they had any issues calculating or concerns with prestige. I would imagine they would just give you a new empty base with your items in new storage bins. If they did something like this the only issues would be keeping track of the salvage and IOs. I am sure they keep track of that stuff already.

It would make sense that to entice someone to accept the change they would have to make base creation much easier so those wanting to reproduce what they had could do so in much less time. Otherwise what would be the point of making these changes.

Part of me feels that the Devs seeing the issues with bases and what not also implemented the changes they did with Traveling. I can recall "Back in the days" when having a base teleporter really came in handy trying to get to odd places like Dark Astoria and such. Today other then that odd spot between OB portal short cuts, Vet mission teleport and now full routes now open on ferry and train, base teleporters have less value. I think the Devs just have there hands tied and would rather work on something that everyone will benefit from.

I mean really only a few people are going to be able to modify and design a base in a VG or SG so the average rank and file player really does not have a say. Designer spends 8 hours making a garden room and 3 or 4 members think its dumb, they would rather have a lava room or something other then a Garden room. This is also one of the reasons why I have my own SG and VG. Why should I spend my time and prestige for something that really isn't mine. At the end of the day if some leader(s) quit unexpectedly it ends up in someones hands that really does not want the leadership of SG/VG but wants the base and all that prestige and sadly I am one of the new guys that might have contributed more prestige then the new leader. I am sure there are players here that can mention horror stories regarding those issues. If I quit today and come back 6 months from now, my bases that I owned for the last 2 years still belong to me and not some guy that never logged in but decided to come back 3 months before me.

I do not think that the Devs will make something that is only SG or VG specific. You did have some benefit of being in a SG/VG that had base teleporters compared to non SG/VG Players, but as I mentioned that benefit has been decreased today. I do not think it would be fair to give a SG or a VG an ADVANTAGE though.

So with all that said I am for a fresh start with the following things to be added.

    1. More storage space.

    2. Some sort of personal space for every player. Something they can use that is not part of the group. Every kid wants their own room, Heck just about everyone wants their own space sometimes.

    3. Storage specific for each player in the SG or VG. Same storage bin for everyone just that you can only see your stuff. This way you can hold your things for some new build or to transfer to another character for there build without having to log on and off a dozen times juggling trying to make room. Otherwise you have no control or repercussion over that person that decided to take your IOs for themselves. Have a radio button that will allow you to see personal or global. So if you want to be the nice guy/gal and give some IOs away you can place them in Global storage for everyone to see and take.

    4. Of course this goes without saying redesigning the tools that allow you to place items. You should be able to place 2nd story floors similar to how you adjust the height of the base. You pick your floor design and then click one button to say place this across the room. Then you can go and pick out individual tiles to remove to place a stairs.

    5. The ability for players to create templates that can be uploaded by other players. I would like to make a sewers themed base, but I'm not sharp enough. Player SoandSo is though or has one already they are willing to share. Assuming I have enough prestige I should able to just click install template or copy template and BAM I have a sewer base created by SoandSo. Give Designers the ability to get credit for those using there templates similar to AE concept. I can then go in if I like and then modify some items to make the base my own unique style. Depending on the amount of changes I make if I decide I want to be a weasel and repost the design as my own. The base should have a tag that says Player SoandSo created a 100k prestige base and I modified 10k of it. So in a pyramid scheme concept the Original template creator will get more tickets then I would or make it a rule where the 2nd player would have to modify at least 50% of the original base template to get any credit. Of course with this you can give away special badges and allow those with the badge maybe a discount on items required to create a base design.
  14. I say earth rad for the only reason you have no attacks until your pet rock. Its a great team set, but solo your living off temp powers. This was before the market and you were able to make temps. Iron blade temp was golden to me.

I don't think so. I have my crab positional defense capped with no pets. I picked up the endurance Alpha and I have absolutely no issues. One of my few builds that does not use Traps and is pretty darn good.

Also remember you do have 2 builds to play with

It really is good. Even when you think the poison effect is gone but still see some lingering smoke, you will suddenly see a mob get zapped. I have several screen shots of mobs getting caught in the smoke and some in the bubble. So you can get a bunch of mobs with this one.. Between Poison and Trip mine and a decent amount of recharge you can almost just keep dropping poison trap followed by Trip mine.

    Traps is a GREAT set..

Miladys_knight's suggestion is a good one - 6 kinetic crash gives you -KB and 7.5% recharge.
Hrm I see what your saying.. I will have to really try to test this out then. Though for 1 slotted if I could have just bonfire up much more its a pretty great power to keep mobs away from me. But I'm going to have to do some testing for sure to see. I have it on my AR Device so my longest recharge power is Full Auto so I will have to do some timing and see. In hindsight I have Buck shot 1 slotted with one of these procs also.. SO I could have been noticing that instead. Bah, could be giving out misinformation here.. But I will check and make sure what the heck I am talking about.

    Slotting Bonfire

Force Feedback +Recharge works very nice in it assuming your running against many mobs. As each mob hitting it has a chance to activate the proc it has a decent chance to go off. Since the AI of mobs is pretty much charge in to fight the player. It's almost like zombies trying to get at you to eat your flesh, they just keep on coming. After not having and having it, I start to notice when the proc goes off. You can also tell when it goes off by the the fact that Bon Fire is ready to use again before Bon Fire expires sometimes.
  19. I would say stick with storm since you know it so well. Storm will offer a nice Hit debuff for your pets when solo. When solo you can run around tagging everyone to get the hit debuff on them and in a team you can use them as attack powers while holding off on other less group friendly Storm powers, of course that all depends on your group. Some will say thanks for the hurricane tag knowing the debuff it offers others will complain you knocked the baddies away.

Pain is nice, everyone wants a healer I guess. I know I have DS Pain and some pretty much tell me out right they just want me for the heals.

I feel solo though Storm can give you a better edge though. I'm more familiar with Storm myself compared to Pain.

I guess it would be nice to know what some Pain MM are soloing with there pain builds.
  20. Thanks for taking the time to post the testing. I figured as much but I have come to learn what I thought was right was wrong with some stuff in this game. So I had to ask to make sure.
  21. This is my Robot FF build. I could only accomplish Defense Cap by using Protector bot FF. With Traps I don't count on the Protector bots bubble for Cap.

If someone has an idea on how to get Defense Cap without Protector bot FF buff I would most inclined to listen. I just can't figure it out. I guess Alpha slotting for Nerve ( Accuracy ) which has a defense buff component as well could fix these issues as what Gameboy mentioned.

  22. I think I already know the answer but I'm just going to assume this without some other players giving me insight.

If I use Power boost and then activate Dispersion Bubble will the defense boost that Power Boost offers last as long as Dispersion Bubble does not drop or only for the Power Boost Timer ?

My understanding is Deflection and Insulation Shield that are used after Power Boost will offer the bonus for as long as the Bubbles last. Of course those are on timers whereas Dispersion Bubble is constantly on.

Would Protector bots cast under power boost offer greater bubbles as well ?

Going along the same lines again I notice that Power Boost in MIDs also increases the effects of Maneuvers. Again is that for the duration of Power Boost or as long as the toggle is on ?
  23. Your build would be nice to see. Good info / insight. It sad you had to go through so many levels of issues before having the tools available to be able to accomplish what you were looking to do all along.

I think all Masterminds have some sort of issues until that magic level comes where you can finally get something that has some sort of synergy or fluidity. Unfortunately its not until the much higher levels that at least for me I feel well rounded. I sort of feel limping along until "that" level is reached. That level of course varies from player to player and from each type of Mastermind.
  24. Wish list right..

    1. ability to search all salvage in your base instead of running from bin to bin. I'm thinking index computer that will sort all your stuff for you. Maybe cost 1 salvage rack slot or something.

    2. Invite alt characters to SG / VG

    3. Be able to combine temp powers to costume parts. E.G. Have costume part jet boots and have the Jet Pack temp fuel the jet boots. Both animations work when your Temp Jet Pack is on already, so it would be nice to be able to right click the temp and choose not to display jet pack. Would like for Jet pack to fuel wing parts as well.

    4. Different Jet Pack costume parts for flight. E.G. Goldbrick for example

    5. PvP prefab base / fun house. Basically instead of using your base. They create a prefab base in which you can spend X amount of points to put items in and move things around. Have different types of goals. Defeat all. Capture the flag. Hold the flag the longest. Teams can bet INF.

    6. Alternate look for Veteran temp powers. Feels like everyone went to the same discount magic wand shop.

    7. A second power choice for some sets this way the cottage rule is still observed for those interested but for those who would like an update can pick a different power instead. So Force Field can have the standard powers and Powers from Column B to choose from.

    8. Revamp the Respec maybe if only at level 50 to a more stream line approach. At 50 you have all your powers and slots.

    9. The ability to hold more IOs when doing a respec. Otherwise you can spend several respecs just trying to save some expensive IOs you no longer want in one build but want to place in another.

    10. The ability to pay a small fee just to change one power for another or to move 1 or 2 slots around in a respec so as not to waste a full respec just to make one power 3 slotted and another 4. Or to change from Super Speed to Fly.

    11. The ability to toggle off the animation from Ninja Run but keep the speed bonus.

    12. ability to only have 1 shoulder item or to mix and match shoulder items.

    13. mid arm and mid leg items. Dagger, Knife. Vials, Feathers, ammo packs.

    14. Personal Arch type emotes.. E.G. Assault Rifle sling weapon on shoulder emote. Emote to shoot gun in air.

I do that all the time. That power is bound to a key near my other movement keys so turning it on and off is pretty simple. I actually built a character who has the /em at ease bound to his keys so when he stops moving he'll go into the relaxed stance. It makes him look pretty bad-A using Ninja Run to flip into the middle of some bad guys and then just go all at-ease, like he's saying "Nah, you guys aren't a threat..." (note: he's a tanker.)

Anyways, I'm not complaining about people making suggestions or anything. Frankly, you can ask for whatever you want, doesn't hurt my feelings. But just stating an opinion: I'd be pretty peeved if the devs actually made a ninja run toggle that had no animation. It's like, I can't make any new concepts with a toggle that just makes you run fast and jump a bit higher. If I wanted that, I'd just pick up super speed, slot sprint/hurdle, or use Gift of the Ancient/IO bonuses. It'd feel like such a waste of time if they did that rather than some new stances that can flesh out more concepts with.
I don't want them to remove it. I just want the choice of either having the animation on or off. Maybe right click and have a radio button to say animation off. I have a DB Scrapper that I like having Ninja Run on.

I do turn it off when just standing. I think though the 10 others standing around me at market or trainer with it active just remind me of how silly I look with it on just hanging around.
