Was doing lam last night and noticed that if my pets died during the Marauder phase it seemed every time I tried to resummon Marauder ( or it might have been one of the robots ) would fire off that cluster bomb effect and cause my pets to charge him to attack.
First off, I noticed they would rush into melee range to fight.
Second they would die at Marauder or die on the way back getting attacked or drag aggro with them so I would have to dismiss them or end up dying myself.
Third even if I expected that they would charge in ( my 2nd time summoning them ) I would immediately go passive and call them back, BUT STILL they would charge all the way in and then come back. So from my location on the roof the mobs would run all the way to where Marauder was and then come back in passive mode. Basically I had no way of stopping them while outside. I could have tried zoning back into the building to see if that worked but didn't think of that at the time.
I put a report in so they know. -
Quote:I wouldn't take Trick Arrow for the double redraw issue. Unless you have no issue with it.Trying to start up a new AR toon and see if I can get it too Full Auto, but am searching for a secondary with some kind of synergy.
I was kind of thinking cold or trick arrow both seem like they might be able to hold a group of mobs in a spot for ignite which could be good synergy, but I am open to anything.
Your gonna wait 35 levels just to hold mobs in place with Sleet ? I guess snow storm might help out until then.
I would go Traps. You will be Positional Defense Capped. You will have Poison Trap slotted with Lockdown Proc. You will have Trip mine for another AOE bonus.
Open up full auto. Mobs rush in.. Poison Trap takes effect. Ignite followed by caltrops ( they can try to run out of the fire ). More mobs come in. Drop a Trip mine ( though Poison Trap will be recharged for a 2nd placement if you like ). More dead guys from Trip mine. Place yet another Poison Trap followed by Ignite.
Pick up Mu Mastery for Power Sink. 2 mobs and your endurance bar is full again. So you don't even need blues. Well you might need one or two in your tray in case your distracted killing and forget to use power sink.
Unless you already have a bunch of defense cap, power house, 8/4 setting running toons and your just looking for some thematic fun.
When you can at the end you can place a Ragnarok in Full Auto and get it down to a 15 second or 12 second recharge. This is with all the recharge bonus you get from the other sets. -

Having 15 level 50s and knowing others probably have double that on two accounts or even one on two servers. I am getting pretty bored and disgusted doing these 2 incarnate Trials repeatedly just to get stuff unlocked.
I have tried looking around to get some TF going but that hasn't been as solid as it used to be before this new incarnate stuff came out.
I decided to work on lower level toons but yet again these Trials have players working to unlock stuff so not many on lower level toons.
I am not saying that at every turn everything I do ends up being a bust, but it is taking much longer to get something other then incarnates going compared to prior to this new stuff. So everything seems likes it dragging. I am really spending much more time trying to get a team going for something other then Incarnates then actually playing.
It is really coming to the point of just moving on and un-subbing to something old but new or just something really new just for a change.
I just don't know why we can't unlock the new incarnates while doing other TF as well.
Further the BAF cut scene. OMG I would pay real life money just to have an options NOT to have that cut scene.
It takes you 10 to 15 minutes just to get a BAF forming then you have to spend what now feels like an eternity seeing that cut scene over and over. It has made me hate full figured women and Issac Asimov and robots with skinny arms and big hands. So for the love of all that is sacred please give us the option just not to see the cut scene. I don't care if we are stuck just hanging around while others look at it. I would rather chat with other players for several minutes then seen that thing anymore.
I know I'm not the only one. I heard some players complain about it today as well. Trust me I love pizza and ice cream, but even I can't eat that stuff all day. -
If they fixed the pet AI it would go a long way to helping keeping within the scope of what they wanted or expected to do with Masterminds.
If you could actually rely on telling your range pets to STAY ( True stay, meaning not moving at all ) or chase a limited distance ( Move to get into range again ) and then return if you get too far.
The AI would have to be revamped to add in radio buttons and maybe a slider for distance. So you could differentiate what you wanted each pet to do.
I personally do not want my pets to chase the mobs to the end of the map. I would love to put a leash on my pets to say after X amount of feet come back to your original positions.
I think if they took the time to make some real finite controls that would put us on the way of true masterminding. Your pets doing what you want them to do.
Otherwise in many senses controller type pets are sometimes much more superior to mastermind pets. I know I have been in the situation of thinking if I try to kill that Singularity pet the NPC Warden is gonna hurt me bad. If I keep trying to kill that Warden that pet is gonna keep knocking me all over the place.
Yes less sturdy maybe but I can resummon and for less endurance and on top I have a bunch of other attacks I can use. I don't have all those choices with my mastermind. I know on my Dark set, Dark Servant is out longer then it takes to recharge.
Right now we have Stay which does not work.
Follow which does not work unless you or the pets does not have aggro.
Attack which sort of works, I know there are times my pets just stop attacking and I have to re-initiate the attack command.
Goto sort of works as long as you or pets do not have aggro.
Basically the commands work really, really well when your not fighting. But get into a battle and your fighting 2 fights. The NPC mobs and your control over your pets. The fire and forget pet model sometimes really does have some good qualities sometime. -
Having I a AR Dev blaster ( 50 with incarnates ), Traps AR defender ( 50 with incarnates ) and a DP Traps ( level 36 ). I think Traps falls in a bit better with DP because DP is short range attacks and PBAOE and Traps has many PBAOE attacks.
I think Adeon last few sentences expressed very well the issues between Traps and Device. To me Device is for someone who wants a thematic build that Traps cannot cover for them. The only reason I have a 50 AR Device is because its 7 years old and thing were different then. -
Quote:I was around for those times you mention. I would hope that I didn't express in my posting that I am looking to go back to the OLD DAYS. I was just looking for an ability to use a form of " Rapid Deployment ". Pretty much I need my pets out NOW and I need them buffed and ready to fight ASAP type of ability. As I understand these game mechanics anything that combines 2 things together always comes at some sort of penalty. So I know they would never give you 3 bot types and buffed for the same cost of what it cost to summon each pet tier and then buff them.In the progression of how masterminds summon, you used to summon 3 sets of pets and equip/upgrade, 2 actions for each pet. The second upgrade used to be on a PAINFULLY long recharge. Also when masterminds launched, your pets did NOT zone with the mastermind. These are what we call the BAD OLD DAYS.
Now we have 3 pet casts and 2 equip/upgrade casts. If you don't want a certain set to get a buff, you can move the pet set away from the AoE, it isn't that big. They did indeed change the endurance costs and recharge time per cast, but don't make me ever go back to square one.
But at least it is nice to know that no one else understands why they do some of the things they do as well. As time goes by more and more it just does not make sense to me about all this summoning and buffing as well. -
It's a known issue. I don't recall if they ever fixed it ? But either way just add this to the list of stuff Mastermind players have to deal with just to have a working Arch Type. Sadly masterminds fall into the same category as Kheldians. The are complicated and buggy with there own set of rules.
Masterminds are just not the meat and potatoes of this game so it just does not get the attention other Arch Types do. -
Bah I knew I should have hit preview.. But I didn't
I went back to re-read what I posted and I deleted a few sentences in which I wanted to state that It would be nice if we had the option to summon the pets all at once buffed and ready to go for 1/2 half our endurance..
What I also wanted to state and didn't get in ( which really makes me wonder where my head is at when I was posting ). Was it would be nice to be able to get back into the fight real fast when the opportunity arises.
I didn't want to change the way we summon but have another option to be able to summon and buff in one fell swoop.
Again not change but just an addition to.
I don't know if that makes a difference but I wanted to clarify that point which I failed to bring up in my original post. -
Quote:I will admit this flew over my head.."Oh no, they killed my Protector Bots, time to resummon."
...
"Crap, they killed my Assbot and now I have to wait for the power to recharge since I already summoned once in the past few minutes."
Someone care to enlighten me. -
Judgment wise I would say take a Ranged AOE because a Ranged AOE you can use as a PBAOE, but you cannot do the reverse.
Plus depending on your build Judgment has a decent recharge that is nice to use as an opener for pulling what might be left of the group. I'm not saying that judgment is effected by recharge which it isn't. I'm Just saying with my Robot Traps I can fire it off and have my pets attack at the same time, which makes for a very BIG Alpha. I use that technique when trying to get my Tip missions. I pull 2 groups on a 4/8 setting and then fire off the incarnate along with pet attacks. I usually get one Tip per attempt. So pulling 3 big groups or combination of groups gets my 3 Tips pretty fast. I just exit and save the mission for another day.
Other then that I really think it matters what your set up is. Again for me with what I had before these incarnate power unlocks I went musculature and I am doing 4/8 settings and killing AVs and GMs. So what more do I need really ?
If your ninja poison persay I could see where going to get the defense bonus would make more sense then a robot traps going that route. -
Just trying to figure out what great advantage would a Mastermind have if we were able to summon all the pets at level 50 with full upgrades in one simple cast. Assuming it was your choice for 1/2 of your endurance bar..
I'm thinking over the different Arch Types and I know some have big nukes that have a crash and a long recharge, like Nova Blast. Then you have those crashless nukes like Full Auto. But Masterminds do not have any nukes persay. Yes a Alpha from a Robot MM might get you that AOE patch along with other attacks. But I just don't know if I can compare that to a Full Auto which I can have slotted to be ready every 15 seconds or the ability to fire off the nuke when I want and not when the pet decides.
I am just starting to feel or notice that we are at a disadvantage when we loose all our pets during a mission or even on a incarnate mission where every point of DPS matters if your going to try to get a decent drop like a rare at least.
So with this in mind I wanted to brain storm some reason why or what great advantage we would have if we could just summon all the pets with all the upgrades in one fell swoop.
I just can't think of a moment in which if my pets died I would be in a good position in which resummoning this way would put me over the top on someone or something. I would imagine if my pets are dead I already lost some great advantages they offered like the bodyguard mode. So I don't see where me loosing my pets I would be in a good place if you get what I mean. I mean something bad had to happen for me to loose my pets. Even if I voluntarily dismissed them for some reason I still am not gaining some benefit to being able to resummon them all in one shot.
The only scenario I can think of is PvP. Assuming full endurance
I get attacked, all my pets are dead and I am barely alive. I eat a bunch of greens and purples and resummon my pets back for half my endurance. So now I am at 50% endurance with all my pets again. The player moves off out of range and then comes back in and hits me with 2 large aoe attacks again. Thus killing or almost killing all my pets. I am damaged either way in the inter rum another shot will kill off my last pet maybe. Even if for some reason the summon was just about up and I was at 60% endurance and I lost another 50%, leaving me at 10% endurance. I am still hurt lower in inspirations then I was. Basically I am delaying the inevitable.
I bring up this scenario because I had something like that happen to me with my Robot FF in PvP a long time ago. Basically I was hit with a fireball which left all my pets dead except for the last one which had a sliver of life left. I got hit with another AOE promptly killing that off and forcing me to use PPF to run off in my little hamster ball. There Wasn't much I could do. I couldn't resummon the pets. I was barely alive, bodyguard did its job. But I was less then 1/4 health. Again not much I could do in that situation.
PvE wise I cant' figure out whats the big deal. Again I might be missing the big picture. Maybe someone has a clue or remembers why it was set up this way. I could think maybe back then with SOs we might have had some big advantage.
But I think today with all the invention sets and so many builds pushing the envelope of defense caps, recharge rates and damage increases I can't think of a reason. On top since pets do not benefit from IO bonuses beyond the pet ones, I again do not see where we would be making out by having a way to use one cast to summon them all with the upgrades.
So if someone knows I would like to hear it. I might not agree with it. But either way I would like to know why. I know it would be old info so I would go with anything, speculation, rumor, guess. As long as it makes some sense. -
I started dropping seeker drones ABOVE the mobs heads. They don't notice the first one and they get hit. They then fire on the second seeker.. So I find your getting the benefit of seeker drones absorbing the alpha strike, but also have a chance of the drone take effect as well.
As was mentioned Provoke alone is not gonna help. I use trip mines and I have Oppressive Gloom ( OG ) working. O.G. without pets is 15 points of damage, with all 3 pets you and your pets are all getting 1 point of damage. But I notice I am stunning all sorts of mobs including those in the incarnate missions. Though I turn it off during prisoner escape. I have stunned a few team mates if I got confused.
I spam all pets stay to try to keep the pets behind me. Which works to keep them out of aggro and getting all mixed up during the fights. I hot keyed the command so I can spam it while still using the mouse to place traps.
Solo I might loose 1 pet during a 4/8 mission setting which is usually that one Tier 1 bot that always runs off.
Personally I have defense cap without the pets. It's a personal preference. I don't like having that delay of waiting for the protector bots to buff you since your the last person on their list. Go figure your the boss but last on the buff list right behind the FFG. Plus from what I read the new defense cap for incarnate is 50 something, think 59. The buff from pets puts me at 54 or something like that. -
I actually followed another poster idea and did a 2nd spec with all SOs and just added many more personal attacks.
From my layman's observations I ended up getting more uncommon drops with the SO build compared to my IO build with no personal attacks beyond the traps ( which are pets themselves ). But it was much more work and I had endurance issues. Again it was a quick toss together just to see if there was a difference. I noticed a slight difference, but nothing worth wasting my time and overall effort for.
Plus hopefully the new patch seems to be addressing some of these issues now. So lets see. -
Quote:Also how they are slotted and how person plays.T
Blah blah bots/thugs meh Primaries arent OPed for MM's its always the secondary which is really gonna sync well and make the primary shine or not sync well and suck three ways to sunday. As with any AT your mileage may vary depending on the powers you chose.
Players think they are going to jump into masterminds and its play as usual. Fortunately today teams will cover up how much you suck and players for the most part are slotted real well so if a brute is fighting one group and you "accidently" pull another group, more then likely he can handle that other group. Plus you will have other players on the team that could handle that group as well. But get that player solo and it becomes apparent how much the suck comes into effect.
You think I wouldn't mind playing a warshade or Peacebringer ? I would love to. I have 2 in there 30s. But I haven't played them so long I am still trying to get my head around the play style and all the powers ( yes I have read the MFing warshade stuff and re-read it, takes a bit to soak in and grasp ). Yea I could just join a group and just wing it. But one that is not what I'm about and two eventually someone calls you out. Again not me, and finally all I am doing is enforcing crappy habits and a crappy play style.
I'm far, far from a leet player. I rely on others to do the number crunching and I just ask the questions. The reality is I use myself as a base line. My thoughts always are if I suck and I can do this, then this guy or gal has real issues.
So I tend to look at post like this with a crooked eye. This is why I asked to see the build ( and was ignored ). This is why I went through the OPs past postings to find out what I can and re-asked again ( and was ignored again ).
But coming here and boasting about one thing and then crying about another. I think you need to show players look this is my build and I am getting my backside handed to me.
Is it me ??
is the content ??
Is it both ??
The Devs fail to address a game wide Pet AI issue, but you think they are going to make things better for melee based mastermind pets ?? Give us level increases ??
Keep holding your breath..
Trust me I would love, love, love for someone to keep this thread handy and toss it back in my face when they do. But it's not gonna happen in this game and under this game engine. Maybe in CoH 2.0 -
I have a level 40 brute and I am looking to make the push to 50 with. I do believe this build is okay.. Soft positional defense cap.. I think a decent regen..
But it really is my first brute, so I am very uncomfortable with him still. Plus I know players will be looking for him as to main tank and such and I really hate putting myself out there in those types of positions unless I am completely covered and set up properly. I would really hate to make a fool out of myself. I pretty much soloed up to 40 so far.
So Thumbs up or sucks ?

I don't many shield mace brutes.. I don't see many mace in general

Quote:But until that time you a free to play any other AT you like..I concede that the entire Mastermind line might not need a buff, but, BUT, at LEAST give me that Mercs and Ninjas need a look to see what can be done to bring them up to par, if not with Bots/Thugs/Demons, then at least to an acceptable level that can be worked with. Fix the AI, fix Serum, and give me the capacity to feel like I make a difference with my Mercs MM again
-
Did we really just discover that melee pets sucked during AV fights ?
Unless you have some real means of making the Devs bend to your will ( I surely don't and I have tried chicken bones as well ), you need to play with the tools you have at hand.
Melee pets go in.. Melee pets might die.. Do what you feel is necessary for you and the team your on after that point.
Or don't play that mastermind set until they fix them up to an acceptable state for you.
You know not for nothing but I see players getting wiped out from AOE attacks as well and they should be more setup then your pets are.
What kills me is even with this thread, you will read someone asking for some type of help with building a poison or ninjas still. -
Trick Arrow Traps
Though I can see the issue of Traps being much about PBAOE and Archery though effective at range and PBAOE. It sort of looses its effect when your firing all your attacks at PBAOE if you get what I am saying.
But you can get full positional defense cap with it. Which is a pretty nice plus. -
Man on fire with a gun.. sounds interesting

Quote:You should have, then I wouldn't have been left in the dark..I almost made a follow up post figuring you were going for this. Hopefully this is then a secondary build that is just used for the trials. I would personally just wait out any changes which will "hopefully" be soon.
That...and there is no way I will help a build that is designed to purposely game the system, broken or not. But that's just me.
Funny one OP.. I didn't see this coming at all.. IF you were going to do it I would just go with SO's.. Unless you really just those IOs laying around.
As Osm posted.. I am also waiting around. Trust me I want to get in and kick some butt with my Robot Trap but I would just get more aggravated.. Good thing it is just not masterminds, otherwise it would never get done. -
From looking back at some posts I can see your Ninja Dark is about 3 years old. I also know you said it was one of your best toons or something in that vein. Either way you were raving about how good it was.
1. How do we know your build just doesn't suck. Maybe you have 4 accuracy's slotted in each pet. Maybe you have every travel power.
2. After 3 years of playing this toon, you just now you noticed how crappy melee mastermind pets are ?
3. I think every Arch Type has a ninja poison set. Blaster have AR Dev for example. Your just not picking that set if your looking for maximum OWNAGE.
4. That is the big issue with Dark as I always comment. You relying on a -ToHit Deuff toggle to get your defenses. If the toggles drops or is resisted ( yes it can be resisted and probably is by those AV ) you just lost a BIG part of your defenses for yourself and your pets.
5. There is no way in the world the Devs are going to revamp Melee Pets defenses to make them more survivable during AV fights. They can't or won't fix the Pet AI issues and it's over 12 months at least and people expect them to fix Melee pets. Just not gonna happen.
6. Just like with other sets and Arch Types I would love if all my toons could solo 4/8 settings. But they can't. I would like all my toons to solo AV's and GMs, but they can't.. Maybe Ninja Dark might be one of those sets that just can't do what you want it to do.
7. Between Then ( 3 years ago ) and now did you by chance make a Robot Traps that everyone is mentioning is so Leet ?
Here is the deal, I get what your say. Anytime I see a AR Device thread I chime in and I'm ready to duke it out with whomever doesn't agree that AR paired with Device needs some fixing. But after 7 years I also get there is a VERY SLIM chance of anything actually getting done in that department. The Devs just are not looking at stuff like that. Those are the things that they stumble upon while fixing something else. As much as I do believe that they should fix everything old before jumping on something new they don't. The Dev mind set as it appears to me is every arch type has a lemon, but there is enough for the player to pick from or sort of eventually give up and try. So yea they know Poison sucks, but there are other choices to pick. Take one of those and be happy. Yea AR paired with Device sucks. Take something else other then Device and be happy and move on.
Otherwise accept the limitations of the set and deal with it. My AR Dev isn't exactly what I wanted, but without a doubt after bending and following some recommendations he is much, much better then he was.
I Respeced my Robot Traps numerous times just to test out other epics. To ME Oppressive Gloom is GREAT. The DPS from Oppressive Gloom is spread out across everyone and me and the pets all get 1 point of damage. Solo without pets I am getting 15 points of damage. Having Triage beacon up without pets nullifies the DPS issue. Do I wish maybe I had fire ball now because of the Drop rate issue for MM in the incarnate missions.. Yes, but I just am not playing my MM until the drop rate is fixed. IF it is never fixed, well then I have no choice but eventually give in and drag along just to get the powers slotted up to T3 at least. As much as I would like to slot a T4 for the level bump. Its no big deal really, I will EVENTUALLY get it.
I am sure if you sat down with the Devs they would clearly say that certain sets were good back in the days or just not one of there shining moments. But they did do such and such which was a great hit. I think instead of upsetting so many other people that like a set the way it is, they would rather just make up a new set and make it what they really expected that old set to be. I really do think Traps is the Device replacement. -

Make components tradeable, but not sellable (at least in WW, if people sell them off market, different story)!
Either way I would hope they fix this issue. My crappy AR Device by terms of numbers is definitely getting Tons more drops then my Mastermind did. I pretty much have everything slotted T3 and Pets at T4 on that toon. -
When did you make this Ninja Dark and show us the build..
