Quote:You know, you almost had me with this and then you get JuliusSeizure and Oathbound_Too to go along. Then on top of this all you make a fake site with fake i21 patch notes..I believe in I21 they're removing the interrupt time and possibly reducing total cast time on Gun Drone, so good news.
You sir have sunk to a new low.. -
Quote:Your correct and I agree. I should have added that point with the toe bombing. I have tried to use Time Bomb on different toons even with Traps and being defense capped. The recharge time on it just made it feel useless. Especially when your trying to place in a group when some fire toon drops and inferno or nova. That just adds insult to injury. It is just so limited for what it does. I would rather have a power I can use at anytime I need it.I will say that without more stealth Time Bombs usefulness is possibly halved at best, you've said get rid or Time Bomb altogether but it could be added to the method I've quoted when slightly less fight duration is required.
Unfortunately many are just hooked on must have trip mine or time bomb in my build when dealing with devices. I think many just think it is not devices without trip mine. I felt like that for a very long time, years for that matter. Once I sucked it up and got rid of it did I notice how much less of an issue it was. -
Okay looked at the new build..
I get the whole 1k damage from inferno. Very nice.
But then what ? You wait 112 seconds to fire it off again ?
I'm sorry I probably just the wrong guy for some of this stuff. I don't get the deal about trying to have the biggest damage attack I can only fire off almost every 2 minutes. Once you fired off that big attack you better hope nothing is alive because your defenses will drop down to half. Though stuff will probably be dead but still.
Overall I cannot see anything technically wrong. Meaning I don't see a heal proc in a limited power like aid self. I don't see things terribly over slotted like before.
Could you get away with maybe 900 dps on inferno, probably. But it's all good if this is your route.
Personally I think your just hooked on this purple is better notion. If I was going to spend billions on a build I would do it on something that can do anything and everything, like a capped brute, tank, scrapper. Instead of being limited. Again not knocking you, part of me is jealous that you can spend this type of game money on this type of build. Hope it serves you well. -
Personally I am against anything Device that is not range capped. Device is just not that good today. Traps is just way much better then Device is especially with the short range that DP has. Again especially with Hail of Bullets PBAOE.
That being said.
I would go Rogue get Scorpion shield and get Smash lethal Capped.
Get rid of Time bomb for sure.
I might consider getting rid of trip mine also.
Those defenses in the 20s are doing nothing for you.
The recharge on Hail of Bullets is too long.
Get rid of acrobatics and on top of that Acrobatics is a TOGGLE. You click it on and stays on until something causes it to shut off. You need endurance redux if anything in it not recharge and 1 is enough.
What I would play around with is trying to get S/L Capped and a decent number on Range defense where maybe one purple inspiration would cap you out. Go for fast and stealthy
Or
I would play off super speed and cloaking device and smoke grenade if anything to toe bomb with a trip mine and then open up with Hail of Bullets. Maybe get a decent recharge going to have HOB as much as possible.
Sadly Device is not set friendly when it comes to trying to build for a certain build when compared to other secondaries.
i21 will allow you to pick up the epic/ancillary powers sooner so that might help you out as well.
I think your lacking some game knowledge and how some powers work. I am positive there are threads related to device. I think there is even a thread regarding AR device retro fitting some threads down. I would look at those builds just to see how people are slotting device and just powers in general so you will see you don't need to slot recharge in a toggle. Not the end of the world. You just need to learn.
Look around fix the build and repost. -
Amazing how they combined stuff to make other items.

Quote:???That's pretty solid. The only 'tweak' I would make would be for the global defense and resist bonuses in the Pet IO sets. As is, the build is very viable.
I'm a bit surprised having someone like you say that. Did you actually pull the build down and take a look at it ?
6 slotted Numina in aid self , That includes the proc ?
6 slot absolute amazement in oppressive gloom with a proc that is suppose to be working now for i21, but currently does not atm.
This build is crappy.
Your Robot Traps and your not defense capped. You should be.
Robot Traps is one of the Premier sets in masterminds. This is the set that can do it all. Solo 4/8 settings, Kill GMs and AVs..
Do a search for Traps on the forums and find a defense capped build.
Don't know what defense cap is or don't understand key game mechanics. Well that is what my signature is there for.
Use it, learn it, love it.
Quick examples
That proc in your aid other will only work or has a chance of working when you use that power. Where if you put it in health it would work every 6 seconds.
Your regeneration with Triage Beacon is too low. Should be in the 500s.
Your recharge is too low.
Redo and repost. Also remember a build is like impulse shopping. What do people tell you about impulse shopping. Wait 3 days before buying that item and re-think that purchase, do you really need that item ? They say after 3 days the impulse is usually gone.
The same goes with builds. You need to make a build then remake. Search the forums and look at what others are building. Then remake.
P.S. Get rid of super jump and pick up super speed with stealth IO -
DS Thermal or Dark a good builds. You will probably be able to solo 3/8 setting once properly slotted with IOs.
Thermal for sure will not help you with AV/GM killing so your stuck with Dark.
Dark deals with -ToHit debuff to obtain your defense which can be resisted. Your pets are a mix of melee and range and rely on you for defenses. End result they will die from a mix of PBAOE or AOE attacks and bodyguard mode and then you will die.
Of course there are other factors that I am not gonna bother with and wasting your time with.
DS Thermal or Dark are nice combos but if your looking for AV/GM killing solely then your gonna have to go for the tried and tested Robot Traps. -
Quote:We could just pretend to burn it but really just give it to the plainguy. Afterward I will tally the numbers and give back all but 20% holding / tally fee ( gonna need a bunch of fingers and toes for this one ).As I said, you were impressive. You apparently burned a lot of inf, which is awesome. Now, if you want to win an inf-burning contest, then we can set one up for you and anyone else who wants to measure themselves by that standard!

Using Hurricane and knowing how it affects a npc is actually a skill. If your going to run hurricane 24x7x365 an run around knocking things willy nilly you will piss off many people even if you think your helping someone from going flat.
You will have to practice on lower con mobs and holding them in corners and such. You will get players warning you even when you just joined a team sometimes about your storm powers.
Its a cool set but either other non stormers don't understand what it can do or help out and sometimes the stormer himself/herself does not understand the set.
Sadly also the game has evolved where pulling is not much of a necessity as it was before because many are now defense capped in a standard mission setting. So no one is complaining that you pulled another 2 or 3 groups now a days. Now they are happy as its going faster now. Where as back in the day a smart tank would appreciate a pull into a corner and having a stormer holding the mobs in place with freezing rain and hurricane adding in LS for additional KB into the walls.
Again today its just steam rolling. Its a bit sad sometimes because it devalues some powers from some sets. Which overall lessens the use of the set as even some players start to notice themselves how limited some of their powers are..
I'm like debbie downer with this post ?
PS the world is ending. -
Quote:So Dark it is.
Question:
What is a good Secondary to pair with dark?
WAIT....
Don't go to the dark side.. Luke didn't..
But I hear peanut butter goes well with dark. You dipped your peanut butter in my dark.. No you dipped your dark in my peanut butter.
I've seen some cool DP toons with dark. -
-
I'm impressed with all these numbers..
I have maybe 2 billion from purple IOs stashed at Wentworth. -
Quote:Well in the context that is being discussed I am assuming ( could be incorrectly ) that it is AE farms for the most part. As was mentioned pretty much many have done at least one crey fire farm and can relate somewhat its about and how it is done. What is this rubbish about better not being the same as faster in the context of farming? Speed is pretty much the only metric you can use to determine farming proficiency, as technically there isn't such a thing as a character that can't farm.
Now if your saying you have a toon that is not one of the main types and is not using Vengeance that can solo a common 4/8 AE farm as fast as the main types, then at least I would be interested in knowing or seeing the build.
But faster is not always better depending on the AT, build and mob your facing. I've seen several builds that are specific to a certain type of mob for a specific type of AE Mission. Again there are some variables to be considered. A perfect example is DP MM blaster built for S/L which relies on Vengeance. These toons are great if doing S/L farm with another player to use vengeance on. But bring them to a LAM and suddenly they are dead meat during certain lab/warehouse phase. Where as I'm running around with my Traps toon ( including robot traps with no pets during that phase that is still defense capped ) having minimal issues ( I resummon FF gen at each crate ).
Another simple example is meleetype being close to cap just because of their sets but not understanding the game mechanics. But having not much in status so one mezz and everything drops again another time where I might excel.
I know my Dark Electric defender is susceptible to getting Darkest Night dropped which is a big part of him getting melee and AOE capped. I'm ranged capped set wise on that toon which enables me to close the gap with darkest night engaged. But if I get held / mezzed and I am too close its ugly.
Those are the instances I am getting at.
I know with my traps toon, which I have many and I am a big fan of. I hardly have an issue with mezz and hold. I might zone out for a very brief moment and then continue fighting. -
Do you have the billions to make this build ?
I'm thinking about 5 to 6 billion by looking at some of those IOs ?
Nonetheless your best bet would be range cap hover blaster. Range when available beats S/L cap. Yes S/L is a common component of many attacks, but Since Range is Positional it works against all damage types and not just S/L. I never had an issue especially with EM being out of range or killing mobs before too many reached me.
Further I believe you would still be able to slot some of those purple IOs even going range cap. -
Quote:I don't think its a question of better, instead about being faster./snark "Your Defender didn't farm the Io's Incarnate abilities did" /snark
Seriously though just about anything can farm, some are better at it than others.
DMystic your not saying this, I'm just using it as a jump off to a general comment.
In the end am I going to complain that some guy offered to farm me for free on his defender and gave me 5 or more free levels but it just took longer. Of course not.
I just did a farm for Prestige with a standard fire brute that needed inspirations and he was AFK for about 20 to 25 minutes total during the whole time. I ended with 5 levels 37 to 41. I think I gave him 30k in prestige with a total of about 5 or 6 crey fire farms. I would have to say it was about 2 hours or more. Again no complaints and I was more then appreciative. But some players were a bit impatient, which always perplexes me. -
I find this hard to believe only in the sense I pretty much mention this on the defenders forums about certain builds that I play all the time.
Currently I have 2 Defenders, a Trick Arrow Archery and a Assault Rifle Traps that can run on 4/8 setting. Not just farms but any standard mission that does not cause issue for anyone else. So CoTs and Freakshows are a go as well. Like anyone else several sort of debuffing mobs can be an issue sometimes. At higher settings mostly because there are just more of them. It's not as easy as just taking out 1 or 2 mobs to control the fight. Its usually a bit more.
As was mentioned I am not doing these farms in the 5 minutes a SS/Fire is doing. But I am doing and it can be done solo. I pretty farm on all my traps toons including a 1 pet DS Traps mastermind that can run 2/8 setting.
Today the new trick I am starting to notice more and more is Vengeance ( might not be that new, but many builds are going that route to farm ). Since you have an endless supply of willing players its pretty easy to accomplish. Perma Vengeance gives you the defense cap you want and everything else is damage and recharge. -
Flash arrow
I would consider pretty much like smoke grenade. 60 second bonus to defenses and helps with perception. From what have been reading in the incarnate missions the new cap is about 52 or 55 so adding another 5 points to you defenses when needed for the whole team or even yourself is nothing to complain about. Its also helpful with high perception mobs when you want to do stealth runs. Again might slow you down, but lessens the chances of being seen and getting into a bad spot deep in a cave mission.
Stunning shot I skipped because I picked up Ice Arrow and Entanglement arrow. Numerically Ice arrow is weaker compared when compared to its other equal counter parts. It holds for not as long cost more endurance. But when its the only thing you have your sort of stuck in that place if you get what I mean. Its better then nothing and it really is not that horrendous. It holds 95% of the time so to me it does the job I need it to do when I need it to do it. Its a power I use to take out one boss while I deal with another. My AOE's handle the regular mobs. -
-
Just tried this with my hover blaster.
Not 9 minutes but much faster then the other way for sure. -
Just wondering if the new lightform power is crashless ? I'm gonna guess yes, but I don't like guessing if I don't have to.
-
Earth Rad
I had / have one. I made him and started leveling him before I had Vet attacks.
It was painful, painful, painful leveling up..
I would look around for temp powers and try to pick them up. If it was a timed Temp power like Ironblade I would only log the toon in if I was seriously going to play him. I was just deadly afraid of wasting the temp power.
Only when I was high enough in levels to picked up the Pet was I semi decent. I eventually went fire Ancillary on him ( before they had going rogue available ) just to finally have some attacks.
I'm still at level 45 or 46 with him after 6 years of play. -
Go range cap, pick up provoke and Oppressive Gloom with the resistance shield. Get your AOE and Melee mid way into the 20s and Darkest Night and other powers will assist you.
You should be using the numpad key commands or at a minimum have a key set up with all pets stay to force your pets to stay back for a bit.
You start a fight from range and pets behind you.
Provoke mobs onto you
Hit the one of them with darkest night
Now your at range cap so that should help with the incoming hits.
Bodyguard mode will help you soak up the hits that get in.
Twilight Grasp will help you heal the rest.
Once the mobs come close enough stop spamming all pets stay and let them loose.
Your Oppressive Gloom will kick in and you will see a sudden a decrease in incoming attacks.
Your Darkest night will cap out your melee and aoe defenses.
The reason I say go range cap is it will always be on. I don't know and I do believe there is a delay between casting darkest night and it actually taking effect. So I think its that moment that your taking the most hits and damage and most likely to faceplant.
Plus if you wanted to take hover per say, you could always just fly up above out of range to give yourself some breathing room.
