  1. Same results as Kyasubaru. Still getting the graphical artifacts with FSAA+AO, regardless of the settings of either feature.

    OS: Win7 x64
    Card: 5870
    Drivers: 10.6
    Res: 1920x1200 (Windowed)

I did fill out the CatalystCrewSurvey page, for what it's worth.
  2. David, would you consider adding (now or later, tied to the Mutant Pack or not, whichever) an alternate version of the Bioluminescent face with the big glowing eyes but an otherwise mostly-normal-human face? My wife and I have a couple of characters that could really benefit from those eyes... but the rest of the head, especially the mouth, doesn't work for them at all. Such a piece would, I think, notably increase the "mix and match" potential of the set.

    How about pants?
Excellent idea. Or you could have it be like capes and auras. If you want to earn the right to wear pants, you have to reach Level 40 and run a special mission.

Ideally, this would involve going to the Rogue Isles and stealing a villain's pants.

Personally, I think that they should stop tacking new rewards on the end (with the possible exception of the "annual" stuff like respecs and character slots) and start adding new veteran rewards in the 12-48 range every few months. That would add stuff to make newbies want to sign on and keep their accounts active (because it's not an ETERNITY away), while also continuing to provide new perks for longtime players.

Too late for Zombie Man, but for anyone else reading this... my wife and I have had very good luck with Xi Computer. They got their start selling custom-assembled CAD workstations, and have become a general-purpose reseller. Like Falcon Northwest and the other reputable system builders, they provide full product specifications for every component, and I've found their prices to be quite competitive. (I'll be buying a new desktop from them, myself, as soon as I decide on a graphics card.)

Any chance I could get you to try it in windowed mode (maximized) with the taskbar set to autohide, as well? It makes a difference with certain issues (HeroStats overlays, for instance), and GR is still quite a ways off. Going without alt-tab until then would be pretty painful.

(I realize changing the config is a hassle, so thank you in advance if you bother to.)
  7. I'm considering the purchase of a 5870, and have a pretty good idea what I'm in for (pre-GR), except for this one issue:

It's broken. Use of -renderthread 1 flag to enable multithreading often breaks it. Having the Catalyst Control Center manage FSAA and/or AF may be part of the issue. Running Full Screen may be the problem. You'll have to play around with those three to find out what fixes it for you.

That Kortez post is from way back in October 2007, and I've been unable to find any mention of the problem in any thread since then.

If someone with a relatively recent ATI card, and running Windows 7, could confirm whether there is still a problem with the use of alt-tab/windows-key while running COH in windowed mode (maximized) and the taskbar on auto-hide, I'd be eternally grateful. I can live without High water effects and bloom, and I actively dislike COH's Depth of Field effects, but I use the windows key to hop out of the game all the time. That'd be a crippling flaw for me, I think.

  11. Just confirmed that this is still an issue on Build 19.20090702.2 ~ 7/7/09 (on the Training Room).

I also /bugged this a few days ago. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

It won't be so bad if it is a running cumulative total, like you can unpublish without resetting your tally, and republish later.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What concerns me most isn't that I can't keep my arcs available to others at all times due to swapping. It's the idea that I could find an arc that I really like, but which the general populace isn't quite so enamored of (say, a 3- or 4-star arc), and later end up having it unpublished because its creator has no alternative if they want to put up other arcs.

I understand that the "Hall of Fame" should have a very high bar. But it seems like this is going to punish both the authors and the players of arcs that are good, but not quite popular enough to meet that threshhold. And that's a shame.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
Empowerment stations were limited to common salvage, so they would still be fairly cheap (With a few exceptions). However empowerment buffs are on my radar to be looked at.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My first thought upon reading this was "if you want it to be cheap, require uncommon salvage". (For at least one recipe per Empowerment buff -- and there should be multiple recipes for them, as with base items.) 90% of the time, you can buy Uncommons for less than list, which isn't true of a lot of Commons.

Unrelatedly -- now that I'm going from a collection of zero-rent "starter" bases to ones with minimal rent, one of my biggest gripes just became more relevant:

The two week "grace period" for rent payments, combined with the fact that the next due date is 30 days from payment (not the previous due date) has made it accepted practice to wait until the grace period is over before paying, creating a six-week cycle. The problems I see with this are threefold:

    1. It's a bookkeeping nightmare. No one enjoys having to keep track of due dates, especially if they play a lot of alts on different servers.

    2. It's logistically annoying. In my experience, people tend to notice that the rent needs to be paid only after they go to the base and find the power has been shut off. If they've just arrived via Base Teleporter vet power from the far side of, say, Crey's Folly, they're forced to leave with no easy way back.

    3. Planning ahead gets you penalized. The simplest way to avoid #1 and #2 is just to pay the rent as soon as you notice the rent-due message. But this means chewing up prestige at 1.5x or above the usual rate. I've also seen people get chewed out by SG-mates for "paying early".

If I had a vote, I'd suggest doing the following:

    1. Allow rent to be paid from within the base itself. Add a very low-cost "rent terminal" item to allow this, if needed.

    2. Add an auto-payment option. This would prevent players from having to keep track of due dates. (But make it an option, so that if people stop playing alts in a given SG, they can stop paying prestige by shutting the base down.)

    3. Eliminate the grace period. Make 4 weeks the absolute deadline. (If we were keeping the old system, I'd add "...and reduce rent costs by 33% to compensate", but you're not.) However, keep the 2-week warning, and only do this in conjunction with...

    4. Base the next due date on the prior one. The next due date should always be 30 days from the previous one when a payment is made, regardless of when the payment is made. If a base actually shuts down for some duration, then and only then should the next due date be based on date of payment.

Psst. The Moy brothers are pretty well known, but it's always worthwhile to plug Denise. Her site is here.

She also happens to be a delightfully pleasant woman, extremely friendly and polite if you catch up with her at an Artists' Alley. (Even if you're the sort who gets tongue-tied and awkward talking to strangers. Like, say, me...)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, if you have the togas, that's true for many concepts.

Through their accomplishments, players unlock the new Roman themed armor costume set.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Please, please, please not the Vanguard merit system.

    Please?

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's my one and only concern about this issue (which, on balance, I am incredibly psyched up for, more so than any in recent memory). With Vanguard Merits... ok, fine, I can't really join Vanguard until I'm 35 anyway, and even then I'm not "accepted" right away, so not being able to get the costume parts until much later makes some sense.

But with these -- if they're only unlockable per-character via the 35+ missions (the ones that take you to Rome), then what you're saying is that if I want to make a Roman-themed character, I need to play him for 35 levels (about half of his pre-50 life, elapsed-time-wise?) with a costume that's not thematically appropriate to him. And that's a big, big deterrent to me. If they must be unlocked via a Merit system, at least let us transfer those Merits from one character to another so that our characters can look the part from day one.

(Alternately, make them unlockable by, say, level 10. Or make some of the Roman pieces freely accessible from level 1.)
  17. I think we're all overanalyzing. Look at the image, what do you see? A snake, in the shape of infinity. The meaning is clear.

In Issue 11, every villain group will be infiltrated and taken over by the Snakes. There will be infinite Snakes. FreakSnakes. Banished Snakes. Embalmed Snakes. The Carnival of Snakes. Snake Head Gunners. Snake Protectors. Serpent Snakes. Legacy Snakes. Snake Mitochondria. Snakes of Artemis.

    ALL WILL BE SNAKES.

Issue 11: Go. Hunt. Kill Snakes.

For the PvE folks reading this, no, Vengeance is not meant to stack in PvE, either and the change, when it happens, will apply in those encounters as well.

Will this be true of NPCs (Nemesis Lieutenants), as well?

If so, I can accept this.

Plus if you think about it, people that have quit the game can easily ask questions in the Warcry forums (something that they couldn't do here, since having a cancelled account means lack of forum access).

Will we be able to drop the "hunt 10 thorns in Perez" mission and the "go run talk to the Hollows guy/the PvP zone contact" missions?

Ie, is this for bugged missions only, or is a general QoL fix? I know that those missions in particular are really an enormous pain when I'm playing the early and mid-game hero side, and I'd much rather simply be rid of them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

If the "drop mission" code doesn't allow me to skip these missions and ditch outleveled arcs in their entirety, it's all but useless to me.

And, note that I'm not asking to get a single point of XP for missions I drop in this manner. All I want is to (1) never do an "introductory" mission for a zone I've already street-swept two dozen times with my alts, and (2) never have to spend hours clearing out ancient arcs for every contact that I've ever done a single mission for.

(You think I'm exaggerating about that last point? Schadenfraulein on Virtue had to clear nineteen outleveled arcs before any of her current contacts would offer her one. At least six of those were from contacts for whom she had done only one mission previously.)

I checked, yes, my skirts with patterns no longer work as of this morning's patch (this appears to be a reversion bug, we had this bug before, I hope it stays fixed next time!)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Is it a reversion? The patterns not in my "broken" list still work just fine, so we haven't gone all the way back to "no patterns on skirts at all". And I didn't remember a phase where some worked and some (most) didn't.

It almost looks like some kind of indexing problem... for about the first half of the list, every third pattern works.

    [ QUOTE ]
Miniskirt 1 is not actually Blend renamed; Miniskirt 1 blends horizontally, and Blend blends diagonally (when they work again, look carefully).

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ah, good to know. I hadn't looked closely enough.
  23. Patterns on skirts are broken. Some (but not all) are coming out as "blank" (solid primary color only). Here are the ones that don't work for me:

Blend, Camo, Celtic, Checker, Circles, Circuitry, Dots, Fade Line, Flames, Fire Stripe, Holes, Isles, Lightning, Lines, Magic, Mesh, Pattern 1, Psych, Scales, Sharp, Starburst, Stars 1, Stars 2, Stripe 1, Stripe 2, Stripe 3, Tribal

Note that while Blend is broken, Miniskirt 1 -- which is just Blend with a different name -- still works.

Note also that this does affect existing costumes (one of my characters has a Pattern 1 skirt that is now blank).

I just wanted to let you guys know, in case you didn't, the Shag hair cut for the female characters has a bald spot. I petitioned it when I first noticed a couple of weeks ago but a fix would be nice.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I can pin this one down a bit more for you, Jay. I just verified the following on Test:

Give a female character Young Face 9 (this may or may not matter), the Shag hairstyle, and the "Average 3" head shape. Exit the costume editor. The character will now have a notable bald spot.

Go back into the costume editor, and bring up the Scales panel. Adjust the center "Cranium" slider (the one for height) to the right (taller) until it's just shy of halfway -- lined up with the "Nose" center slider setting, if I remember right. The bald spot will be gone.

It appears that the Shag hairstyle isn't being properly applied to heads with very low Cranium height settings, resulting in the bald spot.
  25. My Top 10 list (in no particular order):

    1. "Leather Straps" glove and boot color mask patterns (mentioned in the previous thread).

    2. Shorts 1-4 for male and huge characters.

    3. Shoulder animals for male and huge characters.

    4. Shoulder parrots! Please? We have all these pirate costume pieces, and no parrots... it's very sad.

    5. Hawaiian shirts (whether a new costume piece or just a new pattern).

    6. Upper arm (for Robotic Arm styles) and upper leg styles that better match the Robotic Claw pieces.

    7. Kilts for men.

    8. Larger "outer" chest logos on the women's jackets -- they're so tiny right now, you can barely see them.

    9. Barbed wire wrap boots (you can get gloves, belts, even masks, but not boots).

    10. Actual names for the Brooches, so I can actually find what I'm looking for.
