No, no, it's not that - could have sworn there was something for the pigg files... I'll look around some more; perhaps, I'm confusing CoH with some other game.
-
This thread and the hundreds of others like it goes nowhere. Any sensible idea gets shot down by the vocal minority who think everything is peaches and cream as they play their AH minigame.
CoX is unique among mmo's in that every single attainable item is known - there are no random attributes [to enhancements]. Along these lines, yes, you can indeed just have everything available from an npc vendor whose prices fluctuate in realtime as varying amounts of supply get sold to it. If you don't like this "middle-man" acting to stabilize the market, then you're likely just out to make a buck at the expense of others. -
Not the Windoze defragger, but the utility used just for the game files.
-
I would do away with the market 100%. While it's great for making money, it is driven by human greed and, say what you will, running into the very real-life concept can be downright unfun in what is supposed to be a game.
I would instead implement something akin to what Guild Wars has for runes. That is to say, I would set up a few npc's to whom you can sell all that fancy salvage and recipes for realistic prices. And, based on how much gets sold to these vendors, therein lies the price for which you buy/sell.
No longer would there be common salvage selling at 500k with 2000 for sale, and 100 bidding. Purples would remain expensive. It's the best solution to take out the human greed factor and replace it with supply/demand standards. -
Currently trying out the 11.1a driver package and, so far, they're a lot better: quicker alt-tabbing and no black flashing. Time will tell if they're stable as well.

Ugh....
Not exactly what I wanted to hear - I have a 5870. Thanks
Edit: Is there a de facto version you can recommend that runs CoH best? I was tired of the random crashing, but these much more frequent black flashes are even more annoying. -
Well, looking to correct the semi frequent crashes brought on by i19, I updated to the latest Catalyst drivers released a couple days ago. Everything seems to be working alright except for the the fact that when I interact with onscreen menus, the screen will sometimes momentarily flash black (for a second or so) and then return to normal.
Anyone have an idea for a fix? -
Of all powersets, across all AT's, a storm set makes the most of capped ranged defense. A /storm controller, capable of herdicaning 25 mobs into a pile and keep them at bay with -kb immobilize? Even Better. A Plant/Storm controller capable of AoE confusing every 15-20 seconds, herdicaning 50 (mostly) confused mobs into a pile and keep them at bay? Superb.
But all this is fine turning based on personal playstyle.
Key points: 1) You don't need high amounts of +recharge on a plant/storm - ever since the pet recharge nerf, it's nice to have but hardly anything to rave about. It's mostly useful for FR, Hurricane, and the pseudo pets. 2) Unless you want to toggle off hurricane every time you want to fissure, you need to slot if for range. Frankenslotting for 25+ range, stun, and damage is even better.
Just level up the set for now. Storm can be played in a couple different ways and that will dictate how you wish to slot overall.
...all this talk is making me want to shelve my current fire/rad and just dust off my plant/storm. -
Thunderstrike and the 6th slot for coercive persuasion are both good for capping ranged defense, as are the blood mandate and expedient reinforcement pet sets (tornado is a pet).
Slot fissure for range - you want it reaching beyond the 25ft radius of hurricane.
Ragnarok in creepers is an utter waste. Only certain portions of the patch's effects will be getting enhanced. Go with nucleus HO's instead.
Slot Hurricane for max tohit AND endred if possible.
You want max recharge in freezing rain, EVERYTHING else is secondary.
Procs in tornado are generally a waste imo - they can only have a chance to occur once every ten seconds.
There's probably other stuff that's I'm missing. For reference, here's an [outdated] earth/storm build for ideas. I also have a plant/storm but the build's long-since been deleted.

Not sure how the proc works, but I'm inclined to believe it'll proc on each jump. As for domination, it only works on your initial target - nice, eh?
-
I go for capped ranged defense, rather than S/L, on all my stormies. I'm very aggressive in my play however, and actively herdicane/immobilize constantly to keep things bunched up for constant tornadoes. Ranged Def + immobilize works well for AV's too, if that's your thing - the only AVs I didn't manage to solo my stormies were Recluse (with his irritating -end attack) and... uhm... the purple-costumed dude with mind control powers... can't recall his name
Be sure to frankenslot fissure for range - it's possible to fissure outside of hurricane's radius, which is exceedingly handy. -
Electric Control is best at low levels, really. Once you get static field and conductive aura slotted, you should have a general idea of how the set plays.
Synapse overload will add a tool to your repertoire but it takes time to confuse a spawn and won't typically get everything in full-team settings (not to mention, you can miss altogether). What I'm getting at with that statement is that elec control is what it is at level 12 and doesn't mature *too* much after that point. It's up to you to decide if you like it.
It should be noted, however, that if you manage to work in some defense, either S/L or otherwise, it can buy your build enough time to survive sapping to the point that Drain Psyche/Shockwave can handle the rest. -
The only aoe -hard- controls in elec/ are the confuse and the aoe hold. And that confuse is hardly reliable (or quick, for that matter) if you fail to land it on the initial critter. This is not even considering the fact that even while in domination, your sleeps/confuses won't be doing anything against bosses.
But this is neither here nor there - different playstyles and all that. I ended up going with plant/earth. One of these days, I have to get around to leveling my fire/rad troller just to experience fire control at 50... one day. -
Quote:I had actually contemplated a gravity pairing as well. No -kb in the aoe immobilize is a nice thing. Unfortunately, singy's repel ousted the idea from my mindI would suggest giving a Grav/Earth a shot. I know Grav takes a beating on the boards..but when teamed with Earth..it can be a very effecive melee oriented Dom.
Wouldn't work very well for a melee-centric build. The only other set without -kb in the immobilize is of course electric, but I don't really like the set - not enough quick reliable hard control for my tastes.
Despite really wanting to finally try out hot feet at level 50, I'm sort of leaning towards plant. -
I've been deliberating for the past couple days and have come up with two great builds: one for fire/earth and one for plant/earth, both capped to S/L, both with 100%+ recharge. My problem is I just can't decide which to go with !!
Plant is fun w/creepers and has an added control in the form of sleep.
Fire seems like (I've never personally leveled fire control to 50) it would be fun with imps and the oddity that is bonfire... but it relies on flashfire greatly, not having a another aoe control besides long recharge cinders.
Plant's seeds will in effect bunch up the spawns so that [gimped radius] fissure works better.
Fire's Hot Feet will spread apart spawns - the closest they'll be is upon initial agro/stun/immobilize.
I've leveled a plant/storm controller to 50 and it was a SUPERB ride. Part of me wants to (finally) take some sort of fire control to 50 and part of me is wondering about which of these sets has better synergy.
Anyone have any tidbits, having played either of these? HALP! -
Yeah, I know they're two different effects - is why I was specifically using the words terrorize and afraid. That's a bummer about them running out of caltrops regardless; I was hoping they would mostly stay put while trying to run every few seconds.
Thanks, Silas. -
Do powers with an "afraid" tag cause terrorized mobs to consistently run regardless? Some input from the million and one fire/dark's please.
Was throwing around the idea of combining Cloak of Fear with Caltrops (on a scrapper). -
Just enjoy the game. Leave the number-crunching for later on.
-
I figured I might have been transposing the '33' around; thanks, Werner.
-
I've been brainstorming a /DA build and couldn't help but notice that Mids shows the Theft of Essece proc as 20% chance for +10% end... didn't it used to be +33% end? Or am I remembering incorrectly?

Quote:I feel the same way. I always look to immerse myself in games, whether it's within the world itself (RPGs) or on a moment to moment basis (ie., standing ground in a CoH mission and getting into a me against you mentality).
The lack of decent, persistent music and the generally embarrassing level of sound quality in this game is probably the single biggest detractor on the cosmetic side, far greater than graphics, animations or even settings.
Music, like story, is an important part of any game. CoH being an MMO can have an excuse not to have a good story (Hello Hitler-wannabe looping TV's in Grandville!) but it's no excuse not to have good sound, either through effects or music. You can go through entire missions without any ambient music - it's just so odd... and lazy, to be frank. -
Voice chat with friends is a plus.
Voice chat in a pug can be irritating. Ie., that one guy who thinks he's really cool and insisits on belching into the microphone (yes, I know someone like this in DDO). -
Every time I return to CoH, the inconsistent and/or sparse background music just bugs me to no end. The sound affects are, for the most part, ok (though that static discharge sound from the new clockwork that plays like speaker distortion is a bit grating); however, the background music themes are nonexistent most of the time.
To that end, why not hire a composer for a few months and create a good selection of music for zones? Why not modify the sound engine so that the music transitions gradually as you fly from one city area to another instead of abruptly changing from, say, techno, to "creepy". And please add some mission music; while GR spiced some missions up with a high tense track for ambushes or boss fights, it mostly accentuated the lack of music elsewhere in the mission(s).
Now, I'm certain that some players will read this and chime in, "ZOMG, you have your sound on?!" And I reply that for every person not bothering with sound to immerse them in a video game, there's a line of people doing just the opposite. This is no less true for a Superhero/villain-themed game; you're spirit is lifted or your soul is blackened by your acts - a big part of this sensory experience is the musical atmosphere.
Perhaps this is all falling on deaf ears, given the age of the game and the added cost of hiring a composer and/or allocating a programmer's time towards a sound engine overhaul. But I'll be damned if this hasn't been my number one wish for a long time now. Thanks for listening! -
Elec's... ok It suffers on a dom because so few of the powers are affected by domination.
I personally had an elec/earth at GR launch and, while I'm sure there are plenty who will disagree, I felt that it was a terrific set in the early levels, but it really didn't develop at all once you got into your latter career. Your big tools will be your sleep and fissure.
edit: lack of development comment aimed at electric control -
Yeah, I probably wouldn't go with just 120%, but that's me. Anything less than 130% in my builds, I look for ways to bump it up, either through tactics, a kismet in CJ, or accuracy set bonuses. This is somewhat more imporant for /dark since it has no -def.
