here's a better idea.
Hit the little plus sign on the power tray to create an external power tray.
Move your toggles into this external power tray.
There, no unless you specifically go into the options and set a keybind for this external power tray, there's no way you can possibly turn your toggles off in the heat of battle
* * *
Alternatively, just set your toggle powers to trays 4 or 5.
While you can still, presumably, get to them by banging away at the keyboard, you could go in and disable the keyboard commands to swap trays.
Both of these suggestions don't require changes to the engine... and will work.. RIGHT NOW!!!! -

Taunt doesn't have an acc check against NPC critters
Taunt DOES have an acc check against Player Characters.
Which basically means less than .1% of the playerbase needs to worry about slotting taunt for accuracy. -

Quote:*chokes*You might look into a ATI 5750. If your only running a single HD and a factory clocked processor you may be able to get by with one of these. What other components are in the system?
Update: ATI rates the 5750 at 86 watts under load. The 8600 GT is rated at 43 watts under load. So really it is going to depend on what else your system is running. If your only running a factory clocked dual core with a single HD and a couple sticks of ram you should be able to upgrade to a 5750 and keep your full load power draw under the 80% range of the power supply's max rating which would be safe.

The 8600GT is one low power card, especially compared to other other graphics cards it can keep up with, such as the x1950 series and the upper Geforce 7900 series. It, however, uses up a chunk more power than 43watts.
The 5750 hasn't been power tested by as many people... but legitreviews did have an interesting post on it. With this system:
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1105/4/
At full load both the 5770 and 5750 did manage to squeak in under 300watts pull-down
http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1105/14/
Now, I'd only try this myself on a 300watt power supply with a 5750 that lacks the extra add-in power plug: http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,7...wer-plug/News/ -
... urgh... figures that less than 48 hours after I compliment Power_NA for actually getting a clue... this happens...

The uninstaller does not remove the ATi software entries. If it's a borked or corrupted entry, run DRIVER SWEEPER after running the ATi installer: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

My guess is a problem with the way Ultra-Mode is working on your card.
Given than the starting point for Ultra-Mode on the AMD side is the RadeonHD 4850, and that your card is significantly weaker than the 4850 (6,000 Mpixels versus 10,000 Mpixels; 15,500 MTexels versus 25,000 MTexels), your system is probably having to run some shortcuts in order to actually process the code fast enough to be playable.
I'm also suspecting that you probably haven't updated your drivers either. I haven't seen this type of problem on my 4650, 4850, 2600, or 5770 cards. -

Quote:now, see, I've got a motherboard with the integrated Geforce 6100 GPU, and granted, while it was basically an Nforce4 with a downclocked NV44, CoH will still boot and run on that system. Granted, it's not capable of driving anything but low, but the game at least should run. I mean, I can still force the game to run on a Radeon 9200 add-in card, and it will still run on Intel Integrated Chipsets...The problem is that he doesn't have a gaming video card installed. In fact many built in graphics chips are more powerful than the 9100.
In Nvidia cards and most others the first number of the card is basically what generation the card is. 7950 is the 7 series, 8800 is the 8 series etc.. The second number is how powerful the card is graphically. As the cards advance through series then they do become more powerful so a 9800 is more powerful than an 8800. But a 100 is the absolute bottom of the line card intended only for browsing the internet and running non graphically intensive programs.
I'm actually surprised if he can even run the game in safe mode. Sorry for the bad news but odds are that his system just isn't up to running the game.
A crash out on the resolution indicates there's another problem at hand.
Now, it might be that his friend is using OEM drivers for his graphics cards which have had OpenGL support stripped. Updating with new drivers from Nvidia's site may address that issue.

or yeah, trying to force a resolution that the monitor doesn't support. That would do it too. -
Quote:The development staff tends to go out of its way to disguise actual server numbers. One of their reasonings long ago was that server population should not be a factor in whether or not a player chooses a particular server.I have always wondered what the most populated server is. I had always played on Justice till recently when I jumped over to Virtue. Where did all these people come from? I didn't know there was such a difference between servers. Anybody know the current server populations?
Now, Freedom server used to be the most popular server... right up until the free mergers offered at the beginning of this year. Well, technically, players didn't actually transfer off Freedom until after the PvPer's made a concerted effort to gather on Freedom. Draw your own conclusions from that.
Anyways, as of right now, Virtue holds the highest number of players on a consistent basis. Does that make it the best server? Well, no.
Like 37 states, there are other factors to consider when looking at a server. Many servers, such as Victory and Triumph, tend to have lots of players, but they are separated into cliques... and if you don't know somebody in the clique... well... you might not ever think anything is going on. -
out of wondering, how did he install City of Heroes?

has anybody seen the collection of ribbon bombs and mines I was saving for Becky?

Nevermind... Special Effects had em... -
she's asking what Ultra Mode settings you have.
* * *
Okay, if I can have you swap back to the 5750.
Uninstall the existing drivers:
Run Driver Sweeper:
Then reinstall the Catalyst 10.6 drivers.
My Guess is that you probably swapped from the 4800 series to the 57xx card and the system still has the 48xx card as a primary rendering device somewhere.
When you put the 4800 series card back, it's now rendering to the correct device.
Remember: CoH is one of the only Commercial games on the market to leverage OpenGL 3.0+ at this time. Outside of Unigine's Heaven demo: http://unigine.com/ :: there isn't much you can lay hands on right now that's running code compiled against / towards OpenGL 3.0+ -
... I already know what the problem is:
Quote:This is an OEM driver.Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor
Monitor's Max Resolution: 1600,1200
Video Device Name: ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series
Manufacturer / Chip: ATI Technologies Inc. /
Video Memory: 1019.5 MB
Driver Version:
Driver Date: 1/1/0001 12:00:00 AM
Driver Language:
You need to go to www.amd.com and download a proper driver for your graphics card. -
Quote:That... is interesting.Before I read your post.
The game started randomly crashing no matter what I was doing :-( I removed the HD5750 card and replaced it with a 4800 series card and the problems have gone away.
I didn't remove or change the drivers.
The 5750 card only caused problems in CoH so I guess there is some in-game setting causing the problem ?? I reset the in-game options to defaults and that didn't help.
Just to make sure I'm clear on this before I go further, but with the 5750:
You were not getting any other errors with any other game? -

odd...
Can i have you run Driver Sweeper than drop back to the 10.4 drivers?

Quote:on that power supply? Ultra Mode ain't happening.Ok, I'm having difficulty finding a good video card, in hopes that maybe I can turn on some more ultra settings. My husband just decided to buy himself a computer, so I'm trying to piggyback on that

My system is... 3 years old I think. It's a Shuttle XPC - and this is my biggest limiting factor, it has a form factor power supply that is 300 Watts
I do not need low profile (I thought I did, but just checked and there's room for a pretty big card). My PCIE slot is next to a PCI slot that is currently empty.
Anyone have any recommendations? I currently have a GeForce 8600 GT 512MB DDR2 which isn't terrible, but I'd like to see the pretty (and I think it's starting to die, anyway).
The starting point for Ultra Mode in "low" settings is the RadeonHD 4850 / Geforce 9800 GTX / Geforce GTS 250.
While you could technically run a 4850 on a 300 watt power supply, and trust me on this, I tried with mine before posting, chances are it won't run at full speed. On my rig here the 4850 stayed in it's downclocked 2D mode: 160mhz clock / 250mhz memory. I was also coupling it with a low power Sempron (not this model, but one of the Sempron's from 2007), 1gb of memory (single stick), and a USB drive with an external power brick.
I somewhat... seriously doubt that in a "normal" chassis with a normal setup that the HD 4850 would boot. I've had a couple of cards before that basically sound an alarm and won't allow the system to boot at all if you are not feeding the graphics card enough power, which occurred I want to say with an x1800 XT on a 300 watt power supply, and an x1900 AIW... I think on the same 300 watt power supply.
Given that Nvidia's line-up of cards gulps power like they have a dedicated hydro-electric dam, I have no doubt that any higher version of a Geforce card is out of your reach.
So... the only realistic recommendation is: if you want to use that system, you are going to need to purchase a better power supply before even looking at a new graphics card.
