    Here's my planned build (as of today anyway) for my Ice/Time.

    I'm not skipping anything in TM, and am taking everything but Flash Freeze in the primary. Took Shiver and Ice Slick, but it's rare that I use them.

    I just reached 38 and already have the recharge bonuses from 4x Basilisk's Gaze, Call to Arms, Decimation, and two of the LoTG +Rech. Have to say that though I just got it (and don't even have it enhanced), I am really liking Chrono Shift along with Hasten. Pretty sure once all is said and done they will both be permanent, which is pretty nuts to consider.

    Other than a few tip missions I've soloed with it, and yeah, pre-32 especially it was rather slow. The procs from the GR preorder enhancements helped make it a little better, as did the Blackwand and Ghostslaying Axe (take that, spectrals!). Most of that time Block of Ice was slotted for damage, not hold. Chilblain and Frostbite slotted for damage and the latter is used regularly. As a result I have been selective with toggling Time's Juncture, and more selective with Arctic Air.

    Once I get to 50, I may go with Coercive Persuasion rather than Malaise in AA, then upgrade TJ to 4xDark Watcher. Come to think of it, I should probably just do the latter now, considering the 2.5% recovery that might conflict wouldn't do so until I had Ice Storm fully slotted anyway, which isn't until 50 (derp).

    It's quite a bit different from EJI's. It does rely on IOs, and isn't built particularly for defense or resistance. I made the build pre-inherent fitness so those slots are empty - with Drain Psyche I felt I could get away without taking Stamina. I should probably at least see if I have a Numina unique slotted in health (I haven't played her regularly in quite some time).

    I solo, so for me I find having two hold options in Freeze Ray and Bitter Freeze Ray pretty essential (I like playing controllers, so anything that makes me feel more controllery is good with me). Unlike most, I actually like World of Confusion, and feel it allows me to get into melee semi-comfortably. It doesn't confuse them for long, but it seems to make them think twice before attacking me. I have it 6-slotted with Malaise, but were I to resume playing her I'd probably upgrade that to Coercive Persuasion. I'd probably also move one of its slots over to Psychic Scream and upgrade that to Ragnarok.

    The amount of EndMod in Drain Psyche is probably also overkill. Chalk that up to chasing the 10% regen bonus.

    Huh. After having received points on Oct 12, my Nov and Dec points (like Gemini's) were granted the day after billing, at least on my primary account (secondary hasn't reached the bill date for Dec yet).

    I did need to re-establish billing after the auto-bill failed though (whoops - expired cc date). I'm wondering if that fixed things for me.
  5. Oh, I completely get that and no offense taken. I have friends who have played many other MMOs (CoH is the only one I've tried), so I've heard tales. I can't help but wonder what our tourist-to-soldier ratio is though.

    (And it's not that I can't follow instructions very efficiently - well, other than Lambda where I can't because my graphics card won't allow it during collection - I just don't have much of a will to.)

    I'd much rather play the part of tourist.

    I've long had a BOSS_NAME mission in PI that is stocked with Cimerorans (at least I did last time I checked). Not one I ever wish to complete.

    That's how I've been trying to play it on my BR/Rad corr; disintegrate, lancer shot to stun anyone who might be trouble, then work my way to the other attacks. I've only gotten him to the high 20s, as I've been favoring playing my Ice/Time controller.

    Any opinions on how this style plays with scourge? Maybe it's just that I've just been facing a bunch of minions, but it seems like I'm not getting that great a boost from it. It's been a while since I played my only other corr (energy/kin), maybe this is just typical.
  9. I've gotten this at least a half dozen times tonight too. On both accounts, on Infinity as well as Virtue. I will try to zone (mission, base, tram) and get to the loading screen, which eventually kicks me back to a shot of my character with a 'noMapserver connection.' message. Quitting to character select takes me to the blue screen with clouds. Quitting to desktop does work.

    When I try to log back in, I'm told that I'm already logged in (this happened even after a few minutes of doing other things).

    edit: hmm, interesting. I was mapserved this last time trying to tram from Atlas to Steel, and upon reconnecting I was indeed in Steel.
  10. * tips
    * story arcs
    * SSAs

    For story arcs, I've been tending to lean to the old and familiar, with a couple of exceptions. Both my Ice/Time and Beam/Rad started in New Atlas. I've been meaning to do Croatoa with the former, but might end up outlevelling it. The latter has been running the First Ward content. I avoided the Nance/Adair/Cooling stuff on both. I think I ran Peebles on at least one of them.

    I don't run as many arcs as I used to as I try to fit in my five tips a day and there isn't always time, especially when I try to fit in some leveling on my PB and WS.
  11. I've personally never considered Reward Tokens to be "real money." To me, they are thank you freebies. If at Tier 9 I accumulate them faster than new costume sets are rolled out (which won't be for a while, I still have a couple more to get to even unlock Celestial), using them on Super Packs will be a nice option.

    Admittedly, I've never been hung up on costumes. Maybe I'll buy some sets if I like them and the mood strikes me. Nothing has ever been "WOW I MUST HAVE IT!!" - if I get it, fine. If not, I have other options.
  12. I'm sure others have done this before, but I ran 'Darrin Wade' through the ol' anagram solver recently, and wow, what a list. One of the myriad of combinations was "drained raw", which seems kinda appropriate.

    I'm not entirely sure if it is going into the Station to see Smiley or just the Character Model appearance that bugs me. I rarely do any Radios outside of Kings, so I don't meet any of the other Detectives (Well except for the one in Steel you see in Twinshot's 3rd Arc...).

    More I think about it, it's the Character Model...

    Actually now that it's mentioned...yeah, I don't really like the guy either.

    * I really dislike that smiley face and its surprised eyebrows. But mostly the smile. Needs to be slapped. Hard.
    * I dislike his haircut.
    * He is way too skinny and narrow. One of the first things I usually do when making a new toon is up the shoulder slider to make the shoulders broader. Shoulders that are set narrowly in this game make it appear that something is behind the character, pinning the shoulders back awkwardly.
    * Red sneakers?

    So, yeah. Not my favorite detective either.

    Also my view. I'll gladly run BAF because I'm comfortable with it and know I can't adversely affect it. Pretty much the same goes for Lambda, though I still get frustrated with the collection maps (lag). I haven't run anything past that though. I'm fine knowing that I'm not really the gamer the devs are looking for for the trials though, and am happy to hear that there is a solo option coming. Honestly though, I think going forward on most of my characters the Alpha slot is really going to be the main focus.

It's the nature outdoor maps which I actually hate because there's no good way to segment them down into smaller sections.
    I like sweeping the outdoor maps too. It's rare that I don't clear one. Maybe Ghost Falcon's mission if I'm on a character with knockback, or the outdoor Croatoa map with all the hills (melee + hills + flying witches = I start to get testy...).

    The Perez map I typically go forward, then sweep in a clockwise arc, then clean up in the forest last. The map with the island in the NW (Talos?) I will usually head north until I hit the top of the map, head west until I'm past the rock formation, then head back south, then make one more pass up the coast. I'll then clear the island.
  18. Hmm. I kinda want a mythical zone with a labyrinth now. I guess Roman would make more sense than Greek given Cimerora.

    I do think the Shadow Shard was probably set up with this in mind. Rather than making travel incidental, it was part of the challenge of the set of zones. You had to get across it rather than starting in one place, clicking a tram/portal, and winding up in another. I like that idea as an alternative but found the Shard frustrating (I hated trying to use a gravity well only to jump wrong, fall, and have to start over again).

    And I think the solution is to take something like Titan Weapons, and just stick the shield on the end of the weapon! That would look fabulous, a buster sword or a giant axe topped with a shield.

    (though thinking about that makes me really want American Gladiator-style pugil sticks as an option for Staff Melee...)

    Lots of other metaphors are associated with asian media and don't generate nearly as strong a reaction. The dual-wielding pistol fighter is most recently an asian thing, ala John Woo, but it doesn't generate a strong anti-asian sentiment.

    I think the Marvel Anime stuff borrows from anime in the way you describe: from a broader artistic base than most people associate with anime, in a way that translates American content into that style. But its still stylized, and because its stylized, it will tend to draw more criticism than something that doesn't have a stylized form.
    You're right, my assessment was probably too strong. Speaking from my own bias against anime, it's not just that it's Asian. Part of it comes from my preconceived notions of a style where everything seems exaggerated - how the characters are drawn (large eyes, heads, hair, weapons), their characterizations, their expressions (even in American cartoons like Avatar and Teen Titans that seem to have an anime influence - when surprised or excited characters can open their mouths as large as their heads). Banter that is choppy and obnoxious (basically, the "Blast Ketchup" parody in Johnny Test). Then there is some of the subject matter, which may not be a good representation of the genre but is what comes to mind anyway - characters who are weapons, characters who change gender, the "Bludgeoning Angel" someone brought up here in the past, tentacles, yaoi. Combine all of this and I think "wow, this is all something that culturally, I just don't get, and I'm not particularly sure I ever want to."

    Ethnocentrism/xenophobia (at least for NA players). It's not an "American" genre, but an Asian one.

    Yep, "flavor" is basically why I figured the distinction was initially made, and I'm fine with it (I don't think there's any going back anyway). It does provide more build variability (both selections and slotting), which I can also appreciate.

    To be honest, I feel that games of this type only really need a single control effect, which is "hold" and everything else can be debuffs like slows, damage resistance debuffs and so forth.
    I have wondered why we even need stuns as opposed to holds though. Other than to wander around loopy at 2ft/sec anyway.
