Quote:Yep, that's an option. I'd have to do some shuffling with my order though (took Flash Arrow at 6) to adjust for PGA opening at 16, and I'd have to swap an additional slot into it (from CJ, probably).I recently put the purple Sleep set in PGA . . . nice option for more Recharge, and the Fortunata set is quite cheap for a purple set.
That reminds me though - if I wanted to I could probably pull the slot from CJ and put it into Fire Blast to slot Apocalypse. But that would be considerably more expensive than Fortunata.(though at the same time, it would be upgrading from 0% to 10% rather than 6.25 to 10%...of course I might be able to do BOTH if I pulled another slot from Health...)

I figured I'd revisit this for an update. I dinged 50 on Spectral Shot about 2 1/2 weeks ago. With GR looming on the horizon and no other alt grabbing me at the moment, I figure I'll probably keep playing him until GR hits (at which point I'll likely try Elec Control). I have a nice steady pace going at +0/x2. I could maybe up that a bit but really see no need to.
My current build is basically as it was planned in the initial post, except for the following:
1. IO sets that top out above 30 I slotted with 37s or below for exemplaring purposes (just in case)
2. I goofed up and went with 4x Call to Arms in PA rather than 4x Expedient Reinforcement. No harm really, 2nd and 4th bonuses the same. I didn't bother with a second Expedient, instead opting for a Recharge.
3. I put my last slot not in Group Invisibility, but as the fifth in Fire Ball.
The plan from here is to keep squeezing as much recharge as possible before having to respec. This was the reasoning behind shifting the slot to Fire Ball; I hadn't yet slotted any of the planned Posi's Blast, so the goal is to go with 5x Ragnarok (I have the +Knockdown, four to go) instead. I don't need the Regen bonus from LoTG, so cutting the slot there was easy.
I'm also working toward replacing the 5x Tempered Readiness in Entangling Arrow with 5x Gravitational Anchor. Those are cheap as purples go, and I really don't care about slow vs immob. Hardly ever use the power anyway.
After that I'll work on upgrading Deceive to the Coercive Persuasion set as has been recommended by just about everyone. I *may* decide to respec when slotting these to reclaim the Malaise IO.
THAT will free up another 6.25, at which point I'll look to slot OSA with Posi's.
I'll probably be keeping Flash Arrow. I do mix it in against tougher targets. It's nothing great, but I probably wouldn't use Glue Arrow any more often. Same goes for Poison Gas Arrow.
It's kinda goofy, but I've actually been using Group Invis now and then. I figure it's good to use before protracted battles to conserve end (though I still prefer Sup Invis because I don't have to think about it). I also use it sometimes to keep a little heat off of Phantasm. -
I was getting the server not found errors yesterday. Today I'm getting a bad security certificate warning.

Quote:Same here. My builds are decent but probably not optimal (typically no purples), and I'll occasionally do some quirky things. If I can give someone a fresh angle on a combo, that's great. I don't PvP, so I have no interest in keeping any secrets.I have posted builds multiple times either when I was looking for feedback or as an example build for someone using the same/similar powerset combo. I have no reason to believe that my builds harbor some secret knowledge known to few (in fact I'd go the other way, I'm idiosyncratic in my builds and they often sacrifice some power for "what I want"). I've gotten ideas from builds other people have posted and I in turn hope people get ideas from my builds (or at the very least a good laugh).

I do usually hide from searches. I solo most of the time - it allows me to play at my own pace and lets me be afk if I need to be. If I know I'm not prepared to team I'll hide to save the trouble of folks sending invites for me to politely decline.
I have been monitoring chat channels more though for opportunities to jump in on zone events, TF. The latter I don't jump on often, but now and then there will be a window of opportunity (i.e. kids out of the house) for it. -
Congrats Bill! I have the same goal but a ways to go (would help if I had more focus...that '2' for Controllers in my avatar should now be a '3', for instance).

Quote:Heh, there was an attempt last night on Virtue in Croatoa - the banners showed up just as a number of heroes had convened to take down Jack in Irons (conveniently right by one of the banners). After Jack went down most stayed (and probably a few more showed up). Still failed though, as the third banner went down as the time expired.God help us, I hope they don't base it on those.
Winter Lord might be OK, people did participate in that, but the Banner event is an unmitigated disaster. It's hell (pun intended) to get a decent zone effort going for them about 4 days after the Halloween event starts, and I have never seen anyone even try it out of season.
Add in that people would have to go get level 50s if they weren't already on one to get credit? Bigtime fail unless it was significantly modified from what we see today.
There just aren't enough cumulative rewards for it. Yeah, you get a few badges...which is nice if you are a badger. At least with the Rikti invasion you can make incremental progress - even when solo (for standard Rikti and bombs, if not for the Assault Suits) - and the payoff is an accolade that can be pretty darned handy for certain ATs. The other events just don't warrant pulling yourself away from other efforts. If you stumble upon it, fine. See if anything materializes (even then...two merits for 20 min? Really?), or just stay for a convenient steady stream of mobs.
Hmm. I wonder if an event where the zone pretty much was an ongoing event would work. Hop in if you feel like it, know that you can participate whenever, teamed or not. Eh, probably not. -
Quote:How I'd like to see this go is that as a buyer I put out a number of bids not quite at what I'd like to actually pay to indicate my interest, maybe a half a dozen bids. Someone sees this, and posts for what they might think is a reasonable amount. I see that it has been listed and then increase my bid more to the range of what I am willing to pay (which more than likely is going to end up meeting whatever the list price was anyway).Actually, no. I've seen this more than a few times (in the 35ish range) but given what I was hoping for and what I got.....well, flushing this one was a no brainer.
Exactly. But the prospective buyers don't want to "waste" a slot with an outstanding bid and few people are philanthropic enough to post something that won't sell so you get this problem.
StoneJaguar, post your bid for it across the range you want and let it ride. Many newer marketeers aren't willing to tie up a slot for an item with no bids outstanding. The Field of Dreams approach doesn't tend to work with low demand sets like Confuse.
Why not just bid what I think is fair in the first place? Well, I may not really feel like laying out 6x that price. Especially if there is a chance that I don't check the market for a few days and find that "hey hey! I now have SIX OF THESE!" (not likely, but could happen) Of course doing this there is a risk that I don't see the item in time and someone else buys it. That'd be my own fault. -
Quote:Why is it again that lower characters have less space? I get it from a RP perspective, fine. And I get that higher level characters have the ability to generate more. But having few market slots at those lower levels (both to sell and to attempt to buy) really doesn't encourage market activity at those lower levels. No expert here, but for me, I blow past those lower levels so it isn't worth slotting IO sets. I tried this with a Corruptor. It was such a pain trying to juggle and acquire salvage, as well as the recipes. There are so few spots on the market, as well as my own personal stores in the beginning. And that's probably another reason. I think most people who don't have room on the markets don't bother posting items where there are no bids. And conversely I don't think people want to waste market space to put in bids on items that aren't available anyway, in the hopes the order will be filled. So is it worth trying to fill a niche? I think it would take more than one person to turn that around.
-
A merit-roll recipe and it doesn't even merit a look at the market?
I feel your pain though StoneJaguar, I had bids out blue-side in the 30-37 range and even then it took a couple of weeks to fill. -
Could try Anime Ace or SF Toontime, though those might be all-caps. I saw screenshots using Comic Sans, and it was a little jarring (I didn't even know you could change the in-game fonts).
----------
This seems as good a place as any to mention that I have a character named Comic Sands, an earth dom (rerolled him when Earth Assault came out). Part of my "Twisted Fonts" villain group. Maybe not as good as Zap Dingbat or Time's New Roman, but seemed natural. -
Might not be bad to compare those numbers to some non-merit recipes, just to get an idea of drops generated by 50s/non-50s.
-
Quote:I've had at least two villains not get it until defeating Recluse. I'd frankly forgotten about it, and my reaction was "ohhhhh yeahhhhh, Oroboros...."That said, it's still very easy to miss the one and only arc that entrusts you with the secret red-side, and while it's not a huge deal, having more options isn't bad.
(I have a pillar in my base now, so not really a big deal) -
The powerset font looks a little like a font I have installed called "Backlash 2003", which is probably some other font which was modified for WWE (the 'A' is stylized - not really sure what you could do with that). It can be found here: http://www.typenow.net/themed.htm .
edit: durp. It could also be BankGothic Md BT Medium. -

One other "defense", if you will, of my original choice of Flash Arrow - I could get the 6.5% from cloud senses pretty early, so I could benefit from it for a good number of levels. Building with a 50 in mind...yeah, I'm thinking now I'd probably leave it out. I'm not convinced I'd respec at 50 though, as I'm prone to moving on to other combos.
-
Thanks for the additional builds - I'll chew on these some. And I didn't even think of Unspeakable Terror - using that to free up a 6.5 would have been a good way to go. Ah well.
-
Quote:Yep - I can see that.I've got to try an Ill/TA one of the days - it looks like quite a bit of fun. Gec, those of us who complain about TA are more complaining about it for Corruptors/Defenders - due to things like Controller length times for Ice Arrow, I think it's much better for Controllers than any other AT (Why Ice Arrow lasts a lot longer for a Controller secondary than a Defender primary is a game balance issue that seems a bit crazy to me, but that's a rant for another thread).
Quote:I'm giving another vote for Glue Arrow instead of Flash Arrow - it gives some minus recharge, and with any slotting at all it's basically permanent. Now it may be you're simply so in control you simply don't need it, but if you ever face the issue of guys getting unheld and up in your face, well - you won't ever have that problem if you have glue. Quote:While a lot of controllers have AoE Immobilize powers, Illusion has no AoE control powers other than Flash until level 26. Glue Arrow may be skippable on a controller with AoE Immobilize, but it provides some early AoE control for an Illusion Controller (where Flash is very skippable in early levels -- I skipped it entirely on my Ill/TA build). Since Glue Arrow comes early in the build, it is very handy to get you to Phantom Army and beyond. In low levels, it was the only arrow I used most of the time.
I felt that Glue Arrow adds something that Illusion lacks -- an AoE slow to keep all the foes in the area of the debuffs. It even keeps foes from running away from Spectral Terror very fast. I generally use it as part of my chain of standard debuffs on every group (if it is up).
I think if I were going with a more team-oriented build I'd definitely take Glue Arrow. But how I've been playing (pretty wimpily) I doubt I'd really use either for a standard mob (same goes for Spectral Terror, really). Confuse 1, Ice 2, Blind 3. Probably time to deviate from that (merit earning has bogged down in the 40s anyway). Larger groups I've figured "well, I'll place the debuffs as centrally as I can, and not sweat the guys on the outskirts - they'll be toast soon anyway" -
Yep, something exactly like that. Though I hadn't considered a button (was thinking of binding 'o' or something). Probably better, but man are my trays getting crowded.
edit: ohh, those ARE neat tricks -
Up to level 43. I think I am at 78.75 (? - give or take) recharge bonus. It would be a bit more if I could find a daggone Malaise A/C/R level 37 or under. I've actually filled my three sets of Basilisk's Gaze, having rolled all three of the needed quads (hooray level 10-14 rolls!) Malaise though, not so easy.
It's fun going. I was a little concerned about the ramp-up of EBs (Tina McIntyre) but they've not been a problem (actually the only one that's gotten me is Terra, when PA expired AND Phantasm was defeated pretty much at the same time). I'm very much liking OSA* - it's been great about lighting - and Fire Blast has added some nice damage. I've been handling spawns with two bosses (Rikti/Fake Nemesis, Rikti/Devoured, etc) pretty nicely w/o even having to worry about confusing or holding them. Send in PA, fire Disruption Arrow, shoot and light OSA, follow with Acid Arrow and ST attacks and all goes swimmingly.
I'll probably stick with my original build plan until I get to 50, though it's really tempting to not slot Entangling Arrow past the two I have in it now (though I'd planned on slotting it already, I've shifted the slot levels with the slots in Acid Arrow). Add a 5th to Fire Blast and Fire Ball, plan on slotting THOSE with Apocalypse and Ragnarok, slot OSA with Posi's...I think that would get me to 123.8% recharge, which is even a little better than if I put 5x Grav Anchor in Entangling Arrow (and more useful). And obviously better than the 101.3% w/o any purple sets. Not that I'd probably ever GET all the purples needed, but it's nice to think about. I suppose I'll just 5-slot EA and respec later if I feel the need.
* One thing I REALLY need to do though is set up a bind to target OSA. Tabbing doesn't work reliably, and mouse targeting with mobs and PA and Phantasm and Decoy Phantasm ain't easy. -
Heh, it's nice to see someone else use Kinetic Crash in Phantasm.
-
I've actually been rolling in the 10-14 range intentionally, just for those recipes in question. There's a good amount of junk, but with only 33 recipes the chances of getting something decent is pretty good. The Basilisk and Eradication quads I'm pretty sure were the big hitters, but others in Cloud Senses, Shield Breaker were good. I think one of the Call to Arms got me 50M. I even got a few million out of a Razzle Dazzle. Impervious Skin was ok too, I think (unless that was another from the set that I got as a drop - can't remember).

Mystic Fortune killed my powerset!!!!1
