I recently duo'd Jurassic with a Tanker on my Bots/FF mastermind, for whatever that's worth. He was Super Strength with I think Willpower. I summoned an Arachnos Crab Soldier (Backup Radio temp power) and we went to town.
Was kind slow but not bad at all, Jurassic fell just as the temp power wore off. So yeah, even without other debuffs the -Regen in the Assault Bot seemed to help. Dark or Traps should make it much easier. -
Hami raid is kinda tough on MMs. With my bots/FF, I typically bubble the team first and maybe direct the bots around, if they seem to be responding.
I hot-key (bind) "/petcomall def fol" . I mash it constantly throughout the raid. This gets the pets moving towards me, and hopefully in Supremacy range so I have some bodyguard. If the raid movement slows down a bit and the pets seem to be responding well, I'll order them onto the raid-leader's target. The assault bot has a bit of -Regen, it helps.
Mothership raids are easier. Again, spamming "/petcomall def fol" is important when you're moving fast and hitting the pylons. Sometimes the pets make it and sometimes they don't. Again I just bubble the team, run Dispersion Bubble over the fighters close to each pylon and just try to keep up. Keeping up is hard, don't get frustrated if you fall behind.
If you have Fly, it helps to fly high over the terrain in between each pylon. This keeps stray Rikti on the ground from taking pot-shots at you. Use inspirations or your patron shield to keep yourself alive if you need to. In a pinch, a res'er will get you or you can hosp.
Once the Mothership raid moves to the center of the bowl you should be in much better shape. Drop some debuffs, keep FFG up, and then start summoning and buffing any pets you are missing. Blue insp. help here. Just keep it up and remember it's not always possible to keep all of your pets or even yourself alive. Raids do wipe sometimes, and individuals do die.
Oh, and for lag, I always reduce my graphic settings to minimum before any raid starts. Don't wait, just do it right away while the teams are still assembling. Better yet do it before you zone in to Abyss/Hive or RWZ. I also set my costume to the most basic I have. I keep a simple costume with no wings, auras, cape or other particle effects just for raids (it's my level 1 costume, actually, I'm a bit nostalgic about it).
But sliding your graphics all the way down is probably the most important part of keeping your rig stable during a big raid. Don't be proud, just do it and enjoy being a full participant in the big event. -
Hi folks, just found an odd bug. It causes the client log-in screen to become unresponsive and unable to log back in or exit. I had to kill the client with Task Manager.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start the log off process. Log off to the Log-in Screen, not desktop.
2. Grab a power as the count down runs. Drag the power but don't release it. In my case I dragged the Boxing power from the Powers menu down to the power tray.
3. Wait for the log off to finish and until you see the log-in screen
4. The client no longer responds to mouse clicks. It will take key board input. Note that you still have to "dragging power cursor" attached to your mouse.
5. You can log in with just the keyboard but then you are really stuck. You cannot select a server or the Back button.
6. Kill client with Task Manager.
This is obviously a corner case and not a big deal but I thought I'd mention it. If any one has work-arounds besides "kill the client" I'd appreciate it. Note I tried pressing Esc but it didn't restore the cursor. -
Quote:A great example of this was a team leader who demanded Painbringer from my Bots/Pain MM, even though he was another mastermind.
I had to read this three times before it even parsed. I thought he was asking you to switch to a Peacebringer or something.
Painbringer on a MM is dumb, no arguments. I bubble everyone because I can, easily. Painbringer I can keep only on one teammate, and barely at that. Usually it goes on the brutes and scrappers, and usually I rotate it around so everyone can have fun.
Occasionally it goes on tanks (like that one Dark/Dark tank. Guy was *good*, and it helped a lot.) But usually tanks at that level don't seem to need it. As long as their health and endurance look fine, I skip them and put it on those who seem to need it more. -
Holy Great Cthulhu Batman!
-
Now if only:
1. My pets didn't die whenever I'm side-kicked down and I exit or enter a mission.
2. My pets didn't die whenever I'm side-kicked up and I level up.
3. My pets didn't die whenever I'm side-kicked up or down and the team leader or mission owner levels up.
Seriously, I don't think these would be hard to fix. Just check the level of the pet before murdering it.
It's really irritating when my pets are already the correct level, and yet the SK code sees fit to kill them anyway. Just makes me rather upset every time it happens, especially because it's not needed. -
Quote:And if you're going to go on the assumption that you are NOT going to get all the bubbles on everyone at all times, then you have to have a priority. You can't have it both ways. Either your priority is your team, at which time your henchmen are not buffed at all times, or your priority is your henchmen, at which time your team is not buffed at all times. You say yourself complete buffing isn't possible.
First, to be clear, on a team my priority is for the teammates. I buff them and let the pets die because I figure the team is actually better at keeping me alive by killing stuff. Yes, there are incompetent teams but those are an outlier.
Second, complete buffing is possible. The only reason someone isn't buffed is because:
1. I forgot.
2. They wandered out of range and I couldn't get to them.
Normally it's easy to buff the team then go buff the pets too, but I often don't. Endurance is a consideration here. If I'm running lots of toggles then I really can't spare the extra End. Also often the team is competent enough that my pets have no aggro, so there's no point.
I think that communication is the key here. If you don't intend to buff a team, please say so up front. I think many teams will opt out. Also, I've teamed with plenty of MM's who did buff a team, and were darn good at it. It seems the norm. The only MM I teamed with who didn't also skipped half his bubbles, and was generally an idiot anyway. It was hard, but my widow said nothing and then found an excuse to leave soon afterwards.

Quote:In noticed that in most builds people post on the brute forums, nobody gets taunt! Is it not needed with the inherent taunt in powers that brutes have? Do brutes never tank anymore?
My feeling is that if you have to ask, then you need to take Taunt. If you can learn to do with out it, then consider skipping. I have a general problem with many posted builds, not just on the Brute forums, that they are too advanced for many players trying use them. We should have some newbie builds up that are easier to play.
Goals for a new Brute:
1. Get three attacks for your attack chain,
2. Get three good defensive powers to keep you standing up-right (you have no damage or fury if you faceplant).
3. Then take Boxing & Tough, then get Taunt and your damage aura, if you have one.
At this point you should be around level 16 to 18 and you're readying to go to town. Choose attack powers and defensive powers freely.
If you have Taunt and find you don't need to use it, you can respec out of it. But if you aren't sure yet, take it, it's a hugely useful power. At minimum, the -Range debuf is probably worth it alone. -
OTOH, if you're a MM who like to run a lot of toggles, +Recovery can be helpful.
I use several leadership toggles, Dispersion Bubble, sometimes Scorpion Shield and I also like to make frequent use of Web Envelope and Force Bolt while fighting. +Recovery helps out with this.
Also, if you have to re-summon a lot (Ninja, Zombies?) then I'd think +Recovery would also help there. -
Quote:The thing is, usually you can tell when the team is going to start having problems. I rarely see a team go from steamrolling, taking no damage, to all of a sudden, bam, teamwipe. There are indicators to this sort of thing. A Dominator goes AFK, or leaves the team, which causes incoming damage to skyrocket. That Thermal corrupter leaves, taking his buffs with you. You notice peoples health bars start yo-yoing. It's at this point you need to start buffing.
This to me sounds like some one who has actually been on a team and bothered to notice someone's situation besides their own.
Working Brain: Engaged.
Quote:But I do agree. A Nin/FF is not exactly a highly active MM set. You generally have plenty of time to buff, and quite frankly, I don't see a reason why you shouldn't be.
Robots too. Buff up, run next to spawn, put Assault Bot and Battle Drones on aggressive. Works even on Task Forces/Strike Forces 90% of the time. The middle of a fight is actually an excellent time to buff because I'm usually doing nothing except scanning for problems. Once a team is buffed and I'm hovering over the lead tank/brute with Dispersion Bubble, problems magically vanish. -
Quote:Problem #1: You think it's about you.My pets are what is going to keep me, a TANKERMIND, alive.
Cooperative Attitude: Missing.
Quote:Let's do some math.
Interogative: If you're so great, why was the rest of the team having problems? Obviously, you weren't able to hold aggro if the other MM kept dying, were you?
Quote:Did I mention that I'm a Tankermind?
Repeatedly. And you obviously can't play it well, either, or your teammates would not be having a big argument about getting some defense, would they? Maybe, just maybe, they were on to something there and you are just not seeing reality.
Show me the math that explains why you couldn't hold aggro, kid. Then we'll talk how to fix it. -
Quote:It sounds to me like you are refusing to bubble team mates out of some misguided principle,
This.
Frankly, I don't care how impressed you are with your own pets. You're teammates will exceed their capabilities in all respects. Not bubbling the team is just dumb. If you don't want to bubble, play solo. That's fine. But if you take a buffing toon and team, you'd better be prepared to buff.
I also have a level 50 /FF mastermind, and I spend most of my time on a team making sure everyone is buffed. Sure, I don't always manage to get all the bubbles on everyone all the time, but I give it my best shot.
I've never actually booted anyone off a team before, but your post sure makes me want to. Why don't you come down off your high horse and actually try to work with the team? I've heard it said here that the best power set is Working Brain/Cooperative Attitude, and you sure seem to fail that latter test. -
Quote:This is interesting gameboy. I built a controller on the blue side for doing the Posi on specially selected 3 hero teams (Ice/FF) before they changed it to be more fun and less time-consuming. I wonder what your opinion is of taking photon grenades instead of a pulse rifle attack? It would stack later in the MM's career with the stuns in the protector bots level 32 upgrade powers.
Well, I tried it for a bit in my 30's and 40's. I found it darn hard to stack with the prot bots because you had to actually target the same target (or close) as them. I never found any increase in stun time that I could discern. This may be hooey and it's really a great idea (my slotting wasn't great back in those days) but that was my general impression. Otherwise, the radius for Photon Grenade is kinda small and the damage/endurance ratio doesn't seem great.
What I did in the long run was put a Stun duration IO in the Prot Bots and call it good.
The build I posted is highly experimental and I haven't even tried it once yet. I really do mean caveat emptor. My main build is a lot like Kirad's. What I did differently was I skipped repair and delayed Aid Self, and took Maneuvers and Tactics by level 18. -
The following is a 2nd build I'm testing for low level teaming ... i.e., getting badges on Hero side, like Posi Task Force and what not.
1. Pulse Rifle, Force Bolt
2. Battle Drones
4. Deflection Shield
6. Equip Robot
8. Pulse Rifle Burst
10. Insulation Shield
12. Protector Bots
14. Aid Other
16. Maneuvers
18. Tactics
20. Dispersion Bubble.
The basic idea is that I skip travel powers and take personal attacks instead. With out the assault bot, this makes rather more difference than you'd think. If I'm effectively level 32 or more (ie., Malefactor at level 27 or more), I can just use my primary build which is a lot more conventional.
You may or may not want to do something like this for leveling. You have two builds after level 10 so you can easily experiment with two builds simultaneously.
The rest of the build is even more divergent. I'll let you all know how well it works for solo play on a MM.
22. Aid Self
24. Personal Force Field
26. Assault Bot
28. Presence: Challenge
30. Detention Field
32. Upgrade Robot
35. Repulsion Field
38. Force Bubble
41. Web Envelope
44. Scorpion Shield
47. Power Boost
And the remainder of the power picks I'm saving for fine tuning / inherent Stamina when it hits. I have two repecs and several vet respecs on this character btw, so if this build sucks I can easily rip it apart and redo it. Caveat emptor on the stuff above level 26 or so. -
Quote:Share Pain:
Skipped.
Enforced Morale:
I find that two single-heals is rarely needed, at least if the group has some kind of reasonable organisation. This one also gives me a kick in the groin. Is this a huge mistake?
Skipped.
Temporarily skipped. Anti-control is nice, and I want it. However, how am I supposed to slot something like this? Also, will it be a pain to keep the entire team buffed? Should I focus it on a select few people only, like the tank and the main controller? What about mutiple applications? Can I extend the buff's duration?
I have a Fire/Dark corr and a Dar/Pain corr, so I'll comment just a bit. These two above seem the most questionable to me. My Fire/Dark really skipped quite a lot of Fire early on to get all the goodness in /Dark Miasma, and /Pain seems similar.
Share Pain is a BIG single target heal. It also costs next to NO endurance (0.15 End I think). Sure it's often not needed, but it's a nice back-up, and sometimes you do need it. Plus the "kick in the groin" isn't that bad. You just have to watch yourself for 15 seconds. And it's 15 seconds of +Damage. Weeee.
Enforced Morale is stackable mez protection plus 5% global recharge. That's huge. Squishies on your team will love this stacked on them, and some tanks too. How do you slot it? One EndRedux (or one Recharge) and you're good.
One thing you should consider is using your second build as a solo build. That's what I did with my Dark/Pain. The solo build is the one where I skipped Enforced Morale and one of the two single target heals, etc. and got more personal attacks. (Four attacks at level 45 doesn't work for solo play.) So if you really want to have more flexibility, consider using your second build for solo/small team vs. large team builds. It's good to have both a damage heavy and a support heavy build available. -
Quote:My point is I found Bots/FF to be easy to work with. I don't mind maintaining the bubbles on the bots and find the /FF secondary very straightforward. A defense based secondary just feels easier to me, as far as getting my feet wet with the AT itself.
This. I have a level 50 bots/ff and it's great. While some folks declaim the combo as "boring" it's very strong and easy to get a hold of. Great for starting out.
My opinion: Mids is like AV killing. No need for you to worry about all that stuff just starting out. Go with feels fun to you.
Macros: All you really need to start is the three default macros in your tray. Start with those. Modify the "Follow" one by right clicking on it, select "Edit" and change the text so it says "Def" instead of "Aggressive". Bingo, your first custom macro, it gives you bodyguard mode, and it's all you probably need until level 20 or later. -
To me, this is the solution. When my little corruptor did her patron mish, she wasn't too good at soloing either. The FIRST thing I did was advertise. This is a MMO; we're supposed to need a team. After a couple of missions I had a full team of 8 and we were flying through the enemy, in spite of the fact that it was CoT.
Make some friends, get on a server channel, learn to lead. And set the mish to +1x2 ASAP so your team won't get bored and the XP will come in fast.
Also, if you're going to take BF's especially for a foe you know is going to hold you, don't bring one. Bring eight. -
Quote:Well... not quite. No AT is absolutely necessary in COH at any level. The MMO "trinity" is still very effective, but not mandatory here like it may be in other games. Support is still very helpful, though.
This (again).
However, I have a level 50 bubbler and I've never been not invited to any team I asked to join. And the effect of my bubbles on any team is very noticeable. Just the other day I was on some task force... forget exactly which one... and one of our healers (a Dark Miasma of some stripe) said "Forgot I had a heal button."
Stuff like that tells me I'm being effective on a team. Sure you're not needed. There's always some combination of other ATs that can take your place. But you're never unwelcome. Just be confident, take both the two small bubbles and the big one, slot the bejeesus out of your bubbles, and take Maneuvers. ("Bubblers" who proudly announce to a team "I only took Dispersion Bubble" make me itch in bad places.)
I like to follow the tank/meatshield into the spawn and hover just above them, or slightly back so as to catch both the melee and the ranged folks in Dispersion Bubble. I also bubble absolutely everyone on the team. Even though I skipped Stamina, I slot enough EndRedux where it's easy to do. -
OK, let's say I'm specifically talking about the Detention Field power. It does Intangible, Self-Only, and Immobilize on a target.
Is there any way to increase the Intangible on that? Is there any point to increasing the Intangible on it? If I do increase the intangible, and it's not self only, will some baddy be unhitable while he's free to beat me up?
Speficially the list mentioned using Hami-O's for this. It sounds like I might be able to increase the the Intangibility Mag with Peroxisomes, but do I want to? -
So one of the server channels mentioned something I'm not familiar with. Most Mez IOs and other enhancements say they enhance the duration of a Mez. Do those enhancements also increase the Magnitude of a mez?
Like if I have a mag 3.0 Hold, and I put a +34% Hold Enhancement in the power, is the hold now effectively a 4.0 hold?
Thanks! -
I tend to take Stealth on solo builds. With two builds, that's easy to do. It's handy when you really are solo and just want to by-pass a portion of a map.
I haven't looked at the cost of a +Stealth IO but if they're expensive then I guess a Stealth power might be an option if you can't afford the IO.
If +Stealth IOs are cheap, then you just need suitable power to slot it in. That and not knowing about the +Stealth IOs would be the only reasons not to use one. -
Quote:God PLEASE dont let it be another zone revamp. I mean, i welcome new content and such, but do I really need to roll more alts so i can experience this stuff?
If you visit the zone and team, you'll automatically EX down to the level of the group. Also Ouro is available. Try one of the server channels, or hopefully the new LFG screen will allow folks wanting different mission types (TF, CoP, Ouro., etc.) to make a queue for folks to join. -
Quote:I forgot to ask in my original post...are brutes "expected" to take taunt like tanks generally are?
I'd vote no. It's hard for a Brute to actually absorb all the punishment that a Tanker does. At least for the secondaries you are considering, until you really IO out a character you won't want the attention of a whole spawn.
Taunt is useful for making sure you have some (but not all) aggro for Fury, and occasionally to save a teammate. You should expect your teammates to hold some aggro or deal with it some how. Red-side generally plays a bit differently than blue and this is one of the ways it does. -
Quote:
- There's real hard evidence that new teaming mechanics are on the way
Now that I've read through the whole thread, this seems a lot more credible. Not as impressive as a full zone revamp, but if the new feature is well done it could be a big boon for new players. This game is so heavily instanced we have to rely on server-wide channels to team up reliably. New players often think the zones are empty when they really aren't.
If this does happen, maybe a short intro to the new teaming mechanic could be added to all tutorials (Hero/Vill/Prae)? I think that would help out new players a lot, to get them using the teaming mechanic right away.
