While the Cronite Armor is a good idea, I think you can get more Defense and Resistance from two purple Luck inspirations and two orange Sturdy inspirations. They're fairly cheap, and ubiquitously available.
That's a big hint, btw, for new folks on how to beat some of the tougher content in the game. -
If you are VIP, you can head over to the Beta server, purchase Staff for 0 points, and try it out there.
-
Quote:It doesn't normally work like this. However, if you drop to Premium and then go back to VIP, all your characters are locked, and you are given enough "unlocks" per server to unlock them all, allowing you to choose which characters to unlock. This does not work and in fact today when I logged in, I also noticed that all my characters are locked except where I purchased slots.
So check your global unlocks. It should show enough to get all your characters back. You do have to unlock them one at at time though.
It seems like there was a hiccup and you did drop back to premium at some point. I'd give it another 24 hours, then double check everything. If it keeps happening, definitely contact support again, explain the problem is on-going, and they can escalate it to figure out why you are having trouble. -
She already has two slots unlocked on a different server?
Ask her what the "Global Slots" says on the upper left area of her character screen. -
Hmm, since Tyrant is powering himself by "absorbing souls," do you think he could be absorbing any allies that die near him?

Also, on the Safeguards, the first one is level 5 to 10, which is easy to miss since Death From Below will zoom you right past that in two runs. So get to Kings Row ASAP and start missions for your Detective there before too long.
While there's no real "don't skip" missions any more, a Leveling Plan for new folks isn't a bad idea.
1. Start with your intro missions. Visit Ms. Liberty after the tutorial to level up, then Matthew Habashy for your first set of missions.
2. Continue with the contacts Matthew gives out.
3. At level 5, visit Twinshot and do her arc. This is part of an extended tutorial, and a fun arc too.
4. Head over to Kings Row. Locate your detective (he'll appear in your Contacts under Detectives) and start your first Radio missions.
5. After three Radio missions, you'll get a Safeguard. Advertise on Help and LFG for folks to join you, then head in and stop the bank robbery.
6. At this point you've probably exhausted all the new content. Legacy content is available, but I think you should head back to Atlas Park and join the mindless hoards running Death From Below. You'll gain about 5 levels, and it's a darn fun mission and your introduction to the LFG Team-Up Teleporter.
7. Now you should be ready for Twinshot's second arc. Also your second safeguard mission becomes available at level 11, so head to Steel Canyon and do some more Radio missions.
8. Even though it's legacy, you can head to the Hollows and do David Wincott's arcs, then do Flux. Frostfire at the end of Flux's arc is the first "boss" many players encounter. You may have a tough time, but figuring out how to beat Frosty is a bit of a rite of passage for many players in this game.
9. By now you should be close to level 15. You can do a bit of street sweeping, or another Death From Below. It might be useful to explore a bit while you street sweep. I'd recommend head both to Skyway from Atlas Park, and Steel Canyon. From Skyway, you can get to Faultline and do Jim Temblor's arc, and then Penelope Yin and Doc Delilah. Those are older arcs but still good ones. As mentioned, Steel Canyon is popular, and has two brand new arcs. Laura Lockhart and Graham Easton are the contacts for the new arcs in Steel Canyon.
10. At level 15 you'll be ready for Twinshot's third and final arc. Between her, Faultine and Steel Canyon, you should have lots to keep you busy for a while. Do another Death From Below if you get really bored.
11. I'm not much used to blue-side, actually, but after about level 20 I think you should explore Croatoa, First Ward, and Talos Island next. Croatoa has newer arcs and some fun content, First Ward is brand new and probably has the best content at that level, and Talos Island while older tends to be a central hub, so it would be useful to at least explore it and locate the transfer points.
12. The next big bunch of content starts with Night Ward at level 30, and Rikti War Zone at level 35. Striga Isle is also available if you run out of stuff to do. It's level 20-29.
Good luck! -
Quote:Hi guys! I need your advice. I just started playing CoH about a week ago and I have a question about the missions. What missions/storyarcs do you recommend NOT skipping? It could be for various reasons like getting a temporary power, salvage, accolade, badge, etc. It could even be a mission that you regard as essential --- which you are almost compelled to complete for all of your characters.
So far, this is some of the missions I got from asking people. What are the perks that your character will get from these?
Please feel free to add more and explain why it shouldn't be skipped. Thanks!!!
- Montague Castanella in Steele Canyon (lvl 10+) ----- Midnighter's Arc
- Stephanie Peebles in Striga (lvl 20-23) ----- Peebles' Ring
- Unai Kemen in PI (lvl 45+)
- Tina McIntyre in PI (lvl 41-44)
- Angus McQueen in FF (lvl 40-44)
- All the contacts in Vanguard (lvl 35+)
- Roy Cooling, Keith Nance, and Jenny Adair arcs in TI (lvl 20-30)
For the most part, I don't think any of these matter. Get an Ouroboros portal from someone in Atlas Park. That will let you "travel back in time" and do (or re-do) any mission you wish. No more missing important badges or temp powers -- even if they add the mission after you level past it. I used my level 50 badger and Ouro to get badges from all the new level 30-40 content in Night Ward.
I think the only exception to this is the Safeguard missions, where you do 3-5 missions for your Detective and then you stop a villain from robbing a bank. Those missions aren't available in Ouro, and for the most part their rewards (temp powers and badges) are unique. So making sure to run those a few times isn't a bad idea. Also, badgers like me will usually join your team for any Safeguard, because that's the only way we can get them.

That's still not accessible, if you have to beg someone to let you in.

Also: what server, and what times, do you play on? That will effect your "lag."
What are your graphics settings in the game? Are they turned all the way up? Or set to some medium level? This will also affect "lag." Try turning the graphics down to "performance" and see if that helps. -
Quote:Isn't more obvious to make BASES the central transportation hub instead of 3 to 6 different ways in one zone?
Well, for starters, free players can't create bases, so I think that makes it pretty obvious that bases would be a poor idea actually. Transportation systems intended to be used by everybody have to be accessible to everybody, and bases aren't. -
Quote:6 of us split off into 1 team, and we gobsmacked those lights. we missed maybe 3 times the entire fight. (one player literally missed once?!? I was chased from mine once by the fight, didnt see the light spawn because fighting, lightning, auras, etc., and one other person missed,
Are the Quills no longer an insta-kill on the lights? They were early beta, but I haven't been on since the first round of changes. Yes, you can beat down the lights, but you're supposed to use the Quills. Damage takes too long to defeat the lights. -

Eh, no worries. It was pretty obvious the announcement followed my post, and with the
I'm sure he was just joshing me.
Because fhqwhgads, they josh like that. -
I just noticed the WST for June 12 is Penelope Yin in Independence Port.
I'm thinking Issue 23 just got a very narrow bracket for its release date. -
I use chatset, which sets the default chat to whatever global channel I need. This is easier because I don't have to invoke a bind each time, I just use Enter as normal. I do of course have to use a bind to set the initial channel.
/chatset ChampioNexus
Then just Enter to open the chat. The chat prompt will change to "ChampioNexus" just like it's Team or Local when you have those set. It even uses the same color as the channel text, if you've set a special color for that channel.
/bind alt+b chatset BMT of Champion
Now the default channel will change to BMT of Champion whenever you press Alt-B. -
UAC is not MS Security Essentials. Did you try turning off Security Essentials to see if it's the problem? You can just turn it back on you know.
-
-
MS Security Essentials does update itself regularly. Your settings could have changed. I'd vote that support knows what they are talking about and to check you security software.
At least, disable it VERY TEMPORARILY, then try the launcher. If it goes, re-enable the software and start looking at its networking rules. -
I've been buying recipes with astrals and empy for lower level toons. Incarnate rewards go way further than Reward Merits.
-
There's already a large thread about launcher errors popping up. It's possible there some sort of ISP/region wide issue right now, and it's not Paragon Studios or NC Soft at all.

I just logged into the game just now, so it's not down or anything.
Dunno, delete the checksum files and try again? Checksum files end with a .checksum extension and there are two of them in the main CoH program directory. Deleting those might just force the same thing as a repair, so I'm not terribly hopeful.
Check some networking stuff on your end. There's diagnostic programs on the technical forum that dump your logs and what not. Try posting up those. There doesn't seem to be many common problems amongst the various folks with problems, but we might be able to spot what is causing your problem. -
I've logged in twice today, once just now. Everything seems to be fine here. So it might be a local router or something, but the game is definitely not "down."

Go team Venture... er, team CoH Forums!

This bit is interesting. Is there, I wonder, a limited amount of low bandwidth/background networking available on a Windows system? That's what the log seems to say.
Two things:
1. Wait a bit, see if the other process finishes. You might have to look around your system to find the culprit and ask it to stop. I try to configure all my software to NOT automatically download any patch or update, but to ask me first. This includes the Windows updater itself.
2. I wonder if the developers would consider, if "low bandwidth" is not available, to just use a regular socket. It might be better to do a foreground download than error out. -
I honestly don't know. I'd get her up and running, then I'd worry about deleting "personal" info. I'm like 99% sure that it won't really affect anything, since all that stuff has to work even if one customer uses multiple log-ins.
In other words, copying all of your files should work exactly the same as if she used your computer to log in to her account. Which lots of folks do, and it works fine. All that stuff should be "per account name" anyway and the system won't crash or mix things up.
