Lost my character, help please.

I recently lost 2 characters on Infinity Server, Valkaria and Soviet girl respectively levels 12 and 15. I was hoping that I may be able to get them recovered on my account? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

i would suggest contacting support at https://support.cityofheroes.com/.

i'm guessing that you're not a subscriber based on the white name color, otherwise i'd suggest sending a petition in game as well since in game petitions are not available to Premium and Free players.

Is it possible you're looking on the wrong server, or accidentally created a 2nd account? It's almost unheard-of for a character to simply disappear. For it to happen to TWO characters boggles the mind.

Maybe he means he accidentally deleted them, or someone else with access to his account deleted them? "Lost" could mean several things.

Ironblade is correct, characters really shouldn't be lost for any other reason than deletion by a player. Even if they're blatant violations of the EULA they just get their names and costumes reset to default - you don't lose levels or have the character deleted or anything like that.

Now, if these characters were deleted (either accidentally or maliciously by someone else with access to the account) then you need to put a ticket in with support. Do NOT make a new character with the name as it's my understanding this makes the original character less likely to be recovered. I've actually never been in this situation myself, but that's what I've gathered over the years from those who have.

Thank you for the help guys, but I don't even know how long it could take... I figure it's just best to put it behind me, and just re-roll some new champs.

I really hope no one else has access to my account. That would be terrible.

If you've checked all four pages on each server (to make sure you didn't just misplace the character or clicked a different server by mistake), then I think just pressing on makes sense - it doesn't take very long to make up progress into the teen levels anyway.

I would seriously consider changing your password if you don't find your characters.

Possibly. At level 15 or below you can regain the lost levels within a couple hours of playing if you do several Death From Below runs. i've occasionally deleted and restarted characters in their thirties to use a combination i liked more. The first twenty levels or so tend to fly by very quickly if you find a good team.

Agreed. Usually when someone's account is compromised it's because someone they know found out their login info somehow.

You cant 'accidently' delete a character because to delete one you have to select the delete button and then type that chars name - would be really hard to do this accidently. But someone who has access to the OP's computer and or account could delete them if they wanted to. Hubby is always threatening the latter if I'm tardy with leaving the game to get him a meal.

There is always a lot to be thankful for, if you take the time to look. For example, I'm sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt. ~Author Unknown

An iron skillet upside his head a few times will train him to make his own meals instead of making threats about messing with your characters.

While this is of course quite correct, I do still see people who have done it from time to time. Often it seems to involve the baffling practice of playing while drunk/high.

Pretty sure Justaris will be right. Each server has 4 pages of character slots. The "lost toons" will probably be on page 2, 3 or 4 of those.

I play on my laptop while Im travelling and my desktop when at home and have noticed that the order of my toons (and which page of the server they're on) changes every so often. Irritating and cannot see for the life of me why they move about but there you go ...

i've had this occur as well. In my case the server frequently has at least three pages of alts, which makes locating the apparently missing character even more difficult.

Either that, or it will train him how to deal with his own concussions.

If you change the order of your characters (and use the 'remember account name' checkbox on the log-in screen), the order is saved into a text file in your City of Heroes directory. This file is playerslot.txt and is located at

Installation Drive:/Install Path Here/Account Name Folder Here/playerslot.txt

So if you make a change on one computer, the other one won't know about it. Also, if you don't use the 'remember account name' box, characters are listed in some default server order, possibly by creation.

There were some bugs with this feature when it first came out, where the file got corrupted, but I think all the bugs have been squashed by now. Or at least I haven't heard about any lately.
